Collection of wrestling merchandise, rowdy roddy piper merchandise, or soda?

I collect old newspaper ads, magazines, dvds, vhs tapes, pictures & etc. I've even met some of the legends I admire. |
Who is the raddest legend you have met?

I need to dig that photo out and scan it sometime. He and I talked like old friends the time we met. He signed a pic of him wrestling Lou Thesz and a fake Apple. He can crush apples with his bare hands. |
Just saw those at this candy shop in town that has like a billion different sodas. They have a ranch dressing soda.

Who is the sexiest Legend?

I've never really been a fan of him and I've never really understood the people who see him as some sort of god and, like that Dan guy in the image touched on, take his opinion as gospel. He's always came across to me as arrogant/egotistical and really bitter about something. I get the feeling he thinks he's better than most people in the world of wrestling, because he hates the WWE and TNA and prefers promotions such as ROH, PWG, FWA and NJPW. One of those guys. The people who flock to see him and whoop and cheer when he says something negative relating to WWE or TNA, only inflates his ego. |
He's also been a giant failure in ROH, TNA and helped book the worst period in the WWF. Same thing he shits on Russo for.
|
it's mostly a work, he certainly has opinions and a lot of passion but for the most part he knows what people want to hear and placates them. He certainly dislikes Russo's way of going about things but he knows people want to hear him shit on him. I'm sure if the two of them sat in a room alone with wrestling cast aside, they'd get on just fine. And he doesn't hate WWE or TNA, just has a bit of an old school mentality. Was in the same kind of boat as you until a few months ago but get away from the idiots asking the same questions and he's great. Classy guy also.

He's got a brilliant fucking mind when it comes to the basics. He knows how to get a guy over and how to build anticipation for a match. He's like Paul Heyman in that way. He's just very anti-sports entertainment. I wish some writers in WWE had his mind for building characters over time and putting care into match outcomes and stuff.
|
Cornette may be brash, but I'd watch any company he books for..... the guy knows what he is doing.....I personally love him and could listen to him talk wrestling for days on end.
|
Lol his ROH booking was a disaster and not because of Sinclair Broadcasting like he claims.
That being said, his podcast is awesome and I love watching the shoots he does. |
How was his ROH booking a disaster? And why do you know that much about ROH?
|
|
Just because I dislike ROH doesn't mean I don't know all about it.
The fans hated his booking. His 'Pick 6' idea was a friggen mess. Booking Kenny King to win the tag title even though his contract was up in a couple days and ended up leaving. Non-finishes, not makibg any stars, pushing guys who weren't over. Getting the TWGTT looked awesome as I love that team, but they weren't over. ROH isn't bad to watch once in a while and I do from time to time, but during Cornettes rub it wasn't nearly as good. The wrestling slowed down and attendance dropped. He can blame others for ippv issues and stuff but the booking was on him and Delirious |
I love JR's interviews on his podcast but I have to skip the opening monologue at this point. He bitches about the same exact things every single week. Rules aren't enforced enough, closed fist punches expose the business, ROH wrestlers work too fast, TNA has awful production values, there should be no more time limits, referees aren't utilized properly and should still have names, etc.
I agree with some of those things but jesus, I don't need to hear about them every fucking week. |
Just from watching Cornette's shoots, while he maybe be stuck in his anti-sports entertainment ways an he'd probably push guys based solely on rasslin' skill who have no business being pushed in a sports entertainment atmosphere (kinda like WWE does anyway), he understands the basics. Things that WWE is fucking abysmal at. Things that should be common sense whether you're running an old school wrestling company or a sports entertainment company.
He understands why match outcomes should matter. He understands why having a guy job for months, become a monster for a month to build to a title match, suddenly forget how to win matches again, and repeating is fucking stupid and gets no one over. He understands why Money in the Bank the way it's being done is gets no one over and makes the title a useless prop that no one is gonna pay money to see defended. He understands why Kane chokeslamming The Undertaker through a table the week after he debuts when you've got five months to build to the match is a retarded idea. Basically he may be stuck in the 80's but there are still fundamentals that carry over into 2014 sports entertainment. As long as 50% or more of the show is wrestling matches that fans are expected to be invested in, they're necessary. |

May as well have called this the Macho Man gets chokeslammed compilation for the amount of times he's in it. The series of slams he does from the 1:55 point look pretty dodgy, both hands around the neck with little in the way of leverage, think that was how it was originally then changed to one hand on the back. |

Most of my issues with ROH are production wise which were around along before Corny got there. |
Tyler Black was an awful champ. Followed by Rodrick Strong who was even worse.

I get a big "Cena orange T-shirt" vibe from that Usos T-Shirt.
|
Also, I feel like the plaque should say "Daniel Bryan wins the WWE World Heavyweight Championship".
The word "the" not being there, is making me feel uneasy. |
|
A must-see.
|
I'm pretty sure the only person in the entire wrestling industry that no one has anything bad to say about him is Sting.
I've never heard anyone discuss his ring work, his promos, his longevity, his gimmicks, his look, how he's booked, or anything. Hell, even people have problems with Steve Austin. |
On another note, I love Erich Bischoff as an authority figurehead gimmick.
|
I would mention Terry Funk as well.
He seems to be almost universally loved. |

Terry Funn helped make ECW and it's stars in the mid 90s, but that isn't all that big of a deal is it 450? You shut your fucking mouth if you plan on speaking ill of Terry Funk.

You are spot on. I love Cornette. I could listen to him talk for hours. But I could do the same for a booze drenched asshole at a bar. Cornette has had some good success, but im tired of him and his 20/20 opinions. He was a top mind in the business 20 years ago and time passed him. Im just tired of him running everyone down after the fact...though its so enjoyable to listen to. |
Lets go Post 1994
Created and revolutioned Japanese Death matches and that style Put ECW on the map by being a legit top star in the company Feud with Cactus Jack Like WeX said barely legal Born to be Wired The dude became the Hero of ECW in a time they needed one and Ill go as far to say that without him ECW never makes it as far as they did and never became the icon it was |
We're gonna have to make this a post '94 Terry Funk appreciation thread.
|
Terry Funk helped make The New Age Outlaws superstars.
|
hell, he even put on an awesome match at the second one night stand as the fragile old man. nothing revolutionary, but certainly goddamn impressive.
|
He was a major part of the Beyond The Mat movie and introduced the world to "I'm not booked" Trampoline Man. Fuck you. Terry Funk did more with his pinky finger and 60 year old cock after 1994 than you've done in your whole life. Fuck you.
