They shouldn't have made it so good then. Fuck.
Also, anyone ever play the original Street Fighter and get all the way to Sagat? What is with his fucked up knees? They are like almost at his ankles in that game. |
god i really want to play this. of course i'd have to buy an xbox 360 and an awesome tv but still.

No matter how much they try to dumb down Smash Bros. Its STILL immensely deep and competitive. You still gotta remember that in Melee the Wave dash was a mere glitch that in some ways (in my opinion) broke the game. However it only favored a handful of characters Greatly boosting their specific attributes (Fox, Marth, Falco etc.) while the rest of the other characters simply couldn't compare. This turned the game upside down. You would only see people use Fox, Falco, Marth, C.Falcon in tourneys or high level play which led to boring match ups (everyone using the same characters against each other. You Wouldn't dare pick Bowser or anyone else who didn't benefit from this accidental feature because you will not win no matter how skilled you are. It fuckin pisses me how people complain that everything got nerfed in Brawl. Brawl is way more balanced than Melee and every character stands a fighting chance now. That is all
|
That's the thing tho. I am not a tourney fag. I basically only play against my brothers and a few friends. And none of us wave dash. Of course we all know about the tiers of characters, and we all have our favourites (some high tier, some not), but we don't make use of glitches. We play on pure skill.
I take issue with Brawl because of stupid shit like tripping all the time and the forced smash ball. I have had matches (most of my matches are triple threats with my brothers) where literally I trip 3 consective times in 5 seconds. Move, trip, get up, move, trip, get up, move trip yet again. How the fuck is that supposed to be fun? All it means s that you can be a button mashing tard and still win because the skilled guy trips at crappy times. It'd be nice if they'd patched in the option to turn off the smash ball and tripping. |
Also, what they did to characters like Bowser was good. Can totally play and win with him now. He was fun before, but now he's good too. What they did to guys like Marth was good too. Changed up a couple of moves to increase his effectiveness while toning down his power. Balanced.
What they did to Falcon was bullshit. He was balanced, albeit in a very fucked up way, but he had weaknesses to go with the retarded power and speed (slow attack speed and crappy low attack, as his downward smash is a sideways attack). The only improvements he got were not Raptor Boosting off cliffs and the turning ability added to the Falcon Punch. |
I actually find the tripping mechanic hilarious. Particularly if someone is playing Sonic. I can't hate on it, though - that's like hating on Mario Kart for having obstacles on the track. We've had races where - no bullshit - somebody would go from 1st to 10th place in the blink of an eye (mostly me).
Given the option to eliminate all the wacky stuff and make Mario Kart a 'legit racing game', I wouldn't. I have a lot of other racing game options for that sort of thing. Perhaps the grand mistake was crafting Smash into something it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, no items on Final Destination is still a good workout for me, but we should embrace some wacky stuff every now and then. Smash is still the best brawl game out there, unless Capcom steps up with Power Stone 3. |
What is tripping?
|
Why did I ask that? I don't have a wii anymore.
|
How can you complain about that type of balancing from another game in a street fighter thread? That's all they seem to to in SF now (not a comlaint, I don't mind it)
|
Funky Fly: The tripping issues can annoying but there are ways around it, such as short hopping and special moves that propel your character forward. You CAN turn off the Smash Ball just go to the item switch menu and switch it off, its that simple.

You guys are right, RoXers good.
Dan V Dan fights are immense, however. |
I only do player matches, and almost always encounter people who play everyone. Sagat, Ryu, Ken , and Akuma are top tier, so naturallyyou are going to face a lot of them in ranked, from people who don't want to lose their spot at 3562 on the leaderboards.
|
Tier lists. Bah. I remember Taki being called low tier in SC4.
Your comment about tourny guys being fags is accurate, because tier lists almost always point out characters that have the most exploitable mechanics - and they love that for some 'playing to win' bullshit philosophy. Me and my guys have a closer 'honor play' style of sessions, and we don't care for tiers. There's people who don't even main a character unless they're known to be top-tier beforehand. I have automatic no-respect for players like that (>>> SRK community). |
SRK= Fail. They have threads on how to get through trial mode with certain characters, which is very stupid.

I made some guy disconnect for the first time in this game. I had Ken and he had Honda and he bailed at the end of the second round. It was a Player Match for God's sake! He could have learned a thing or two. lol Lame. |
What the shit is SRK?

The balance is great. You see, tier lists are based on how the best players in the world playwith each character. Retards online see tier lists and pick the top guys, not realizing that for someone who isn't one of the best players in the world, tier lists are useless. |
Ah right. In interviews with the guy who balanced SSF2HD, he was talking about toning down top tier players like Dhalsim, so I assumed it was a literal balance thing.
|
I really do think Sagat needs to be tweaked, but that's about the only one I've noticed. Maybe if I played against more of the other characters, I would notice more flaws.
|
I heard the balance was hella solid. Also, the dude who did HD Remix basically shit on SF 4 for being too complex to grab casual fighter fans.
|
Nah, he shit on reviews for saying it was accesible to casual fans. He thought it wasn't, but doesn't need to be.

No doubt.

Don't beat yourself up. Your Cammy is strong as well.

Your wins in the middle of the session were legit.
|
I think I might try and main her. I wanted Fei, but I dunno, he's just not working for me as much as Cammy.
Also for some reason, I'm much more consistent with Cammy's Hooligan Combo than Fei's forward flip kick, even though they have the same motion. Weird. |
You use that one more than I do. The Hooligan slide links to her super on hit.
|
I don't like what Ranked is turning me into. :(

I love winning with As and Bs in Offense and Tech, but losing to fools who get bad grades.

Somebody challenge me when I'm on or something. I've got like maybe two of you on my friends list. My self esteem needs to come down from all this winning against bad shoto players.

This is a revelation for me.
Still, I broke the 1000s in BP. My weakness against obvious scrubs continues anyway (recently lost to a piss poor Ken player). |

I hit 1430 BP before I wore myself out. It's getting harder and harder to get BP--I'm earning like, 20 to 40 BP a match, versus the 90 or so I would drop if I actually lost. I've discovered that Cammy is a fucking scrub killer. Wait for the Shoryu, then airthrow/diag drill them on the way down. Hadospam? EX Hooligan Throw right over that shit, put your vag in their fucking mouth. Dragon Kicks? Gief lariat grief? Shoot that spinning shit across the floor, and watch them go ahead and try it again like it won't just keep running them the fuck over.
Really, I'm glad that I've gotten most of the stupid ass scrub patterns down. It's a goddamn weight off my fucking shoulders. Now I actually breath a sigh of relief when someone picks Ken--I mean, that saves me the trouble of thinking. Just wait for that dumb shit to start doing something retarded, and then SPIRALARROWSPIRALARROWSPIRALARROWCANNONDRILLSPIRALARROW. |
Oh, and has anyone else experienced this phenomenon? I call it One Night with Akuma. They'll set a ranked match to one round, so you don't have time to catch onto their stupid ass patterns as they needlessly spam gay shit. It used to always be Akuma--the player would know Akuma's ultra to perfection. Just throw Hados until the time is right, then BAM--toss that shit out there as soon as you can, possibly twice in the same fight if it misses the first time, and then capitalize on your opponent not getting a recovery round.
Now that everybody knows how easy Akuma's ultra is to dodge, though, I keep seeing one round Blanka, Abel, and E. Honda fights. The Blanka fights are the best because these fuckers don't realize I can just low kick them out of the electricity. They'll just go right back to mashing down on the shock button like it was a fluke or something. |
Akumas Ultra (and super) are perfectly balanced because with the right timing, you can still hit anyone with it. If a flying hard kick comes your way, Akumas weak punch counters it anyways. Hit the rest of the buttons after it and you'll grab them before they land.
Got accused of cheating last night. They thought his teleport was me repeatedly doing his super.... |
My roommate played my account yesterday and knocked me all the way down to 250 BP or so. Oh well.
|
I've unlocked everyone and finished arcade with each of them. Now I'm focusing on the Legendery Champion achievment. I have to finish arcade on hardest (again) and beat Gouken. I did arcade on hardest and never got to face Gouken. I only used one continue (damn El Fuerte!). Do I have to do it without continues?
Seth isn't as bad as everyone seems to make him out to be. On a Street Fighter related not, I'm heading to a costume party Friday the 13th for a friends birthday. I'm going to be going as Dan Hibiki based on his ingame SF IV look:cool: My only problem is, I can't turn up bare foot to the pub/club/venue it's being held at so I need footwear that fit's the costume. I'm guessing sandels would work, right? 80-ish people expected to turn up and I bet a bunch will be The Joker. I'm wondering how many times I'll hear "Who are you supposed to be?" in one night. Would answering that question with an autographed picture of Dan be too much? :shifty: |

I mean I let him, and he was way better than he was playing. We played for about an hour in versus, and he wanted to play people online, so I let him. He just couldn't handle everyone being really aggressive online...I tend to play pretty conservatively.

Yeah, if anyone did that to my account I'd deliver a shinryuken in real life. Fire and everything.

I have a ranking of 0 right now because my Xbox is in Mexico or wherever the fuck they fix this shit.
|
One time I lost 100bp to a loss. Fucking absurd. The most I ever gained was 70-something, even with 2 As and a B. I set my Custom Match finder to locate players 'better than me' and that's useless because you don't get any more points for beating a 'better' player. It's good to find out what the latest patterns are.
I pretty much pick Cammy for all my Rank battles now. She is perfect. I've learned to fight without jumping hardly at all. Just watch Guile/Balrog/'anybody' players utterly freeze when they see you barely ever jump at them. I currently trying to get a Focus Attack in after Guile's first sweep kick so I can absorb the second. I seen the computer do this. |
I'm terrible for jumping. I toned it down for a while but the last couple of days I've been hopping around the screen like a frog on a sugar rush.
I started jumping all the time in SFII when I was a kid because it seemed like a faster way across the screen. I've never fully broken the habit. |
Can someone fucking explain to me how sweepause I'm pressings work and how to block them? Bec down-back and it is still connecting almost every god damn motherfucking time. Do I have to yank on the mother fucking analog stick as hard as I fucking can until it rips out and I throw the useless piece of shit against the wall?
Cause thats what it seems like. |
Care to reword that? Are you talking about getting swept in general or what?
|
What the shit are you saying?
|
What the shit are you saying?

Fucking god damn piec of shit cursor on this computer is fucked up. Randomly jumps back 20 spaces or so, and also doesn't register when I type a letter sometimes. No idea how to fix it.
And yes, talking about blocking sweeps in general. |
Was basically saying the same shit you were, but you posted all of 10 seconds sooner.
|
Probably your stick.
|
I made it to around 1480 before a couple of gay ass fights. One of them knocked me down 90 fucking points. I'm only getting like, 30 points for every fight. I was fucking furious.

Have I mentioned how much I hate fucking Ultras? They only hit half the time, but that half of the time there's absolutely nothing I can fucking do about it. I'm in the middle of a sweep OHSHITGIANTHADOKEN. I start to grab someone and OHMYGODGYRODRIVESMASHER. I know it's about making the fights more "dramatic" and shit, but it seems retarded to reward someone for getting the shit beat out of them. Three fourths of these pigshit yokels barely know any moves at all, let alone how to actually play, but they'll memorize the fuck out of their Ultra so they can just juke that shit. I've seen guys trying to mash down on their Ultra before they even have Revenge meter to do it with--all they understand is that "This = Win". I'm just lucky enough to get caught trying to actually fight them when their chubby, Cheeto stained fingers finally fumble over some coherant combination of buttons. It reminds me of shit from like, the Budokai games--you know what I mean? "I HIT WITH THIS PUNCH, AND NOW IT'S TIME FOR A MID-FIGHT CUTSCENE! WATCH YOURSELF GET PWNED."
Yeah, I got beat by another Cammy. Three out of five rounds--I won the first two rounds, and the next three rounds had my opponent going crazy for Supers and Ultras. I blocked their entire fucking Ultra, but the chip damage finished me off anyway. In the third round, we both swept at the same time and Double KO'd--but I had more BP than them at the time, so I lost BP and they gained it. FROM A DOUBLE FUCKING KO. A;JDKF;JAJF;A 88 GODDAMN BP. |
Also, how the fuck does anyone do Cammy's Ultra anyway? I can't do two quarter circle motions without it doing that tiny Z formation, so my attempt at an Ultra turns into an EX Cannon Drill.

What really gets me is how people come out of hit stun to do a move before you recover from JUST HITTING THEM.
|
Is the best way to block a focus attack in the corner after being knocked down just to try and do an armor break move before it finishes?
|
Two weak hits should do it, nothing fancy is needed. You can also jump the Hell out of there. If your reflexes are acute enough at the time you can throw them before they release the attack as well.
|
I don't much like being in the corner, and sometimes I just feel plain helpless if they time the attack right.
As for throws, I get so mad when I am so so close and the grab doesn't work. And by the time I would have done another dash in to be close enough, I get a big whiff of Ken Shoryuken. |
So dash in and block. Bait 'em.
