TNA creative executive Eric Bischoff has nothing but positive things to say about the first six weeks working in the trenches for TNA. He says the writing staff and the wrestlers have a strong work ethic and it's refreshing to work with younger talent embracing Hulk Hogan's and his ideas to enhance the product.

In a phone interview on Thursday afternoon, Bischoff said his "Internet reputation" preceded him when he arrived in January, but he feels he's been able to show wrestlers that he means business and whatever stories the younger talent heard about him from the past have been quickly put to bed.

Bischoff said his ideal goal as creative executive is to prominently feature one new wrestler every month and grow that wrestler's character so he's elevated to the level of other top stars in TNA.

"A.J. Styles was our first project," Bischoff said. "His character has more life and become larger than before."

If Styles was the first project in January, then it seems The Pope D'Angelo Dinero is this month's project and Abyss will be March's featured star after TNA gave Abyss a strong push on tonight's Impact.

Bischoff believes some of the newer stars on the TNA roster were underutilized before Hogan and he arrived in TNA. He said he's "thrilled" to take part in helping elevate wrestlers on the roster, as he feels that's one of his goals in TNA.

Constantly building, developing, and featuring one new
every month could give TNA a potential competitive advantage against Raw on Monday nights, especially if WWE continues to devote TV time to familiar top stars on Raw.

On the topic of working with Vince Russo, Bischoff said it's been a "very positive" experience. He said their collaborations have been productive and he doesn't believe there has been one creative disagreement they couldn't resolve.

"It would be a lie if I said there has been anything negative," Bischoff said about working with Russo. "If I see red and he sees green, we've been able to come as close as possible to resolving it every time."

After TNA discarded the six-sided ring, questions arose on whether TNA will make any more changes to the look and feel of the product. Bischoff said the mark of any good TV is constantly looking to improve production value.

"It's a work in progress," Bischoff said. "TV is constantly evolving weekly, monthly, yearly."

Also, kinda childish, and petty of me to say so, but I'm fairly confident I could kick Brick House Chris's ass. Judging by his pictures, anyway.

Opinion of meltzer,,,

Meltzer just is terrible at reporting. Totally clueless about the wrestling business. Write the entire show on a 5×7 card and let the wrestling sell the show? There is NO way that “wrestler A fights wrestler B for 20 minutes and wrestler A pins B” 2 hours a week will draw ratings.

Russo has built the attitude era based on shock, controversy, excitement, drama, and the masses talked about it. Now, because of the embarassment of fake wrestling match after fake wrestling match, nobody outside the wrestling media/bubble talks about wrestling. It’s an embarassment and nobody talks about it if that’s what you do. The show cannot be “simplified” because a Meltzer is too stupid to “get” a show more elaborate than the stuff you see on Sesame Street. The show cannot be “simplified” because a Meltzer does not want to try and guess where the show is going, but they want a show that is predictable outcome, predictable wrestling story, predictable promo where one wants to “kick one’s butt” or “wants to beat one for a title”. Honestly, Meltzer is probably the worst thing to happen to the wrestling community on the Internet. To try to convince the higher ups at TNA/WWE that HE is right is the worst thing that can happen in wrestling. Wrestling is a show.. it’s not a sport, it’s theatre.. it’s a soap opera, a weekly episodic television show

You need the cliffhangers, you need the shocking twists and turns. 24 does that every week. The second you revert to a wrasslin’ show, your ratings will dip, the casual viewers will change the channel to the Bachelor or something else and you have once again lost your audience.

Meltzer, you need to look at wrestling from an entertainment perspective. It’s not real. It’s a show; it’s theatre. it’s about characters, story, reacting to the crowd in the ring.. it’s story, it’s element of intrigue, it’s reality. It’s supposed to challenge the viewer. It can’t be simplified hillbilly wrestling. It just can’t. You want it, but the millions of people DONT. They want shoots, they want shock, they want to be excited, they want to not know what to expect every segment of the show. That’s what I want.
Stop trying to convince the companies that you know what you’re talking about, you’re embarassing yourselves.

The TRUE Vince Russo Facebook/Blog story; Russo Interview thoughts – Reality TV shows vs WWE/RoH; TNA News

I thought I’d write about the story of Vince Russo and the Internet. I don’t think anyone really cares what I have to say but there is a link to this blog straight from Vince Russo’s blog.

As I type this, I am actually listening to Nickelback’s “Burn It To The Ground” – which is Raw’s new theme. I find it odd for Raw to have a Nickelback song as their theme. Very strange, but I’ve started to listen to it more. Nickelback is a very successful mainstream band but they really have their haters too. They make good music with good drums and guitars, so I dig their music.

To TNA news: Eric Bischoff recently tweeted about looking forward to reading Russo’s new book “Rope Opera”. The book is actually “in stock” at Amazon although it says March 1 is the official release date. If you place your order at Amazon, you will get your copy. Bischoff also stated that he enjoys working with Vince Russo, Ed Ferrara, and Matt Conway “for now”. I hope this is long term. I have basically been badgering Dixie Carter and Eric Bischoff that if these guys can work together and agree to disagree, they can really make a tremendous product that will beat Vince McMahon in time. Eric Bischoff destroyed McMahon and really changed the game by taking risks. In the late ’90s, Vince Russo actually took over the creative helm of the WWF and beat an arrogant Eric Bischoff at his own game and turned the shows upside-down with twists, sexual innuendo, violence, profanity, but all-in-all stories that kept the viewer guessing and intrigued.
They’re working together and I think Eric liked Russo even in WCW although they may not have agreed on everything. The thing that really made him “not trust” Russo was that entire Bash At The Beach incident – which Russo recently described as a major misunderstanding. They [Hogan, Bischoff, Russo] have probably patched things up. They’re all in their 50s (Russo being 49) and I’m sure they’re grown men. They aren’t going to throw hissy-fits and fight like little girls, at least I hope they won’t. They’re working with the common goal to put over TNA Wrestling – they’re both employees and have a job to do. They are hired with the expectation that they can get along with other co-workers and employees. Therefore, I hope they will make things work and I actually expect them to make things work. Why does all the backstage conflict have to happen in the world of professional wrestling?

Vince Russo:
Here is some exclusive information that I will share a little later. First, Russo on his recent interview said he didn’t have the time to watch the Raws, Smackdowns, ECWs, and Ring of Honors because he was always writing the next show. I accept this explanation and I am a fan of him. In reality, and I am willing to make a bet about this is, he doesn’t want to watch the WWF shows – they’re predictable, there’s nothing really exciting or different about them that warrants him (or me) to spend 5 hours of our time to watch every single week.
The critics like to say that “You have to watch the competition”. Well, if the competition was worth watching, you watch it and learn from it. Russo did watch WCW when Bischoff was doing the nWo during a time when WWF Raw was doing Mabel vs Jobber #1, Fake Razor vs Jobber #2 with predictable outcomes. If there isn’t a reason to watch the competition, you really don’t need to.
NOW – what I feel TNA Impact’s REAL competition is – is the other television shows that are competing with TNA. The Grey’s Anatomys, The Office, 30 Rock – and many other TV shows. I personally don’t like any of the shows I just mentioned above. My point is TNA is on primetime on Spike and they are competing against other television shows.

I find it hilarious that Russo says he doesn’t watch any of the WWE shows (which I think makes sense – nobody should have to sit through that stuff – unless you’re an online critic that loves the simplistic predictable stories and matches) but Russo on a recent blog puts over all the reality shows that he follows. He mentions “16 & Pregnant” which I had no idea what it was until I searched it on Wikipedia! It’s an MTV reality show. He mentions Jersey Shore (which I hear a lot but really do not want to spend the time to sit through) and Lost (I watched the first season and really did not like it). He spends a lot of time watching other television programs, which is fine. But he watches all these mushy MTV REALITY SHOWs. That’s fine, and that’s his taste. I don’t watch any of it because I consider that stuff to be pure pure television garbage. It doesn’t get any worse than the type of reality shows that he mentioned. I am guilty of following “The Celebrity Apprentice” though when Tom Green was on last year – and will probably check out some of it this year too.
Another television show Russo mentions is “Michael Scott”. Again, I have to turn off the television everytime the US version of “The Office” turns on. I think Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes said it best that “The Office” (US) is quantity over quality (compared to Gervais’ UK version of “The Office”). My point is Russo watches all those reality shows but doesn’t watch any of the weekly wrestling shows. I guess he’s more in line with the masses that follow those reality shows, but in all honesty, I can’t sit through any of them and really can’t sit through any of the wrestling shows as well. I, like Russo, have never seen a “Ring of Honor” show and will not go through it.

Thanks for reading this far – I will now talk about the Vince Russo Facebook story.

Basically, on New Year’s Eve, I emailed Russo asking if he would like a Facebook Fan Page – not expecting a reply. He emailed back saying he would like one because his new book “Rope Opera” was coming out. I gave him all the steps and set up his page. I helped administrate all the haters out there, helped put up all the content, and helped promote the page whenever there was something new. We came up with the “vincerusso.ropeopera” name to help promote the book.
Russo would post status updates and start to blog on the site. He later took questions from the fans and would answer fans’ questions on his wall. I would get the word out there that he was answering questions and within a couple of weeks, the page built to 4,000 fans.
Wade Keller even came on the page under his PWTorch username and when it was obvious he was intentionally trying to provoke Russo, I deleted his post and banned him from the page. He, as a in my opinion terrible journalist that he is, writes on his PWtorch page thinking it was Russo who deleted his post. When he wrote that, I started to suspect how much truth was in any of his columns and write-ups.

I usually tried to moderate the posts before Russo had a chance to do it. I guess Russo visited the page before I had the chance to moderate one morning and probably stumbled onto a lot of fans criticizing and personally attacking him. He decided to just delete the page. All 4,000 fans were gone and deleted. His reasoning was he didn’t want to deal with all the negativity.
Most celebrities and personalities do not interact with their fans the way that Russo did, and many celebrities get this type of heat as well. I give Russo a lot of credit for doing all of that but it ended up being too much.

It was then discussed that he should do a blog site with no comments allowed. I helped set up his WordPress page and after he blogged and people read and dissected each word he wrote, he did not like any of that. I woke up one morning and found all the previous blogs he wrote deleted and he emailed me saying he was done with the blog and that at this stage in his life, he doesn’t want to have every word dissected and published all over the Internet.
It was decided that he would go on a hiatus (most likely permanent hiatus) from blogging. He can still blog whenever he wants. It should be more sporadic as most people in his position probably blog once every month or once every three months. I advised him, much like Dave Scherer did, to not read any of the news sites and columns. I think Russo does spend time to read up on the news sites. I think TNAWrestlingNews.com is a good site to read because all the site does is report what is said and there are no columns or opinions. That’s how it should be. I put the blogs back up and left the page up to promote his book. Even the “vinnyru” page is kind of done without his consent – he knows about it as I told him but he said he wasn’t ready to be actively involved. He may read some of the content on there but he is in no way active on that page. When the hosts of “Monday Night Mayhem” kept promoting his Facebook page, I was kind of scared Russo would butt in and go “What Facebook page?” To my surprise, he didn’t.

Ed Ferrara on Ultimate Insiders said the wrestling business should embrace the power of the Internet. This was in response to if he thought the Internet helped destroy the wrestling business. I think a blog where a Vince Russo, an Ed Ferrara, or Glenn Gilbertti blogs about the recent events in wrestling – can really help get the fans talking, discussing, speculating, and guessing. This is a way to help the Internet Fans get into the product, or keep them talking and bitching about the show. The more you talk about the show, the more likely people will watch. I think they should utilize the power of the Internet to do all of that. You will get criticized no matter what – I get criticized for my opinion on the wrestling business on every forum I have posted at – and that’s fine. Maybe, it ends up being best to ignore all of it if you are in a position to generate discussion.

Rope Opera:

The book documents Russo’s time in WCW up until 2009 TNA. I think to the average wrestling fan who has heard a lot of crap about Russo and hasn’t really followed his career and interviews – will get a lot out of this book. I have listened to most of his media interviews and his thoughts at TNA, how the Tank Abbott/David Arquette/his World Title wins happened and I’m sure this is discussed in the book, along with Bash At The Beach (which he has written about and explained) and he has talked about his 2002-2003 experience as well. I think I won’t be “blown away” by the book because I already know a lot of it. But the wrestling fan that does not know a lot about it – I think it will be a fascinating read!

I did find “Controversy Creates Cash” written by Eric Bischoff to be very interesting because I never really heard too many Bischoff interviews. I did see him on “Off The Record” in early 1998 bragging about WCW and how WWF was never going to be competition. It was an entertaining interview that lit a fire underneath the WWF, but I never really knew much about his career, how his vision/creative thoughts really worked during the 1995-1997 era – so as a wrestling book, I found that one fascinating.

I really think the WCW run of Russo will be a good read to those that criticize his time there. I thought the shows were great but many of the online critics probably didn’t and as gullible as many of them are, really believed that Russo’s personality was what they saw on-screen.
Well, those are my thoughts on Russo watching reality shows (aka TV garbage!) over WWE/RoH (aka wrestling garbage!); the story of Russo and Facebook, and Rope Opera.
