Funky Fly 09-10-2009 03:50 AM

So this is now Superman without being Superman, right? I mean, he's met half the Justice League already and it seems he's already fighting people in his rogues gallery.

Kalyx triaD 09-10-2009 04:37 AM

Regular rules of continuity don't apply to Smallville. In this universe, who knows when he'll become Superman.

thedamndest 09-10-2009 01:24 PM

Probably in the last episode.

Kalyx triaD 09-10-2009 05:39 PM

That would be the sensible way of ending it.

Wow, DC. You get a new branch off the ground that specifically deals with such matters, you're legally obligated to get into pre-production in a few months, and you have no plans for your flagship character?!

Funky Fly 09-15-2009 07:02 PM

What do you expect? It's not a cartoon or Batman, so how do you expect them to do it right?

Kalyx triaD 09-15-2009 07:07 PM

I don't see what's so fucking hard. I mean yeah... a guy like Superman isn't a cakewalk to write for, but the Smallville guys have been churning out stories for nearly a decade. It has to be something on the admin level, because directors and writers practically beg to do Superman. What's the fucking hold up? If Avengers comes out before a Superman movie I'll lose a lot of respect for DC/WB's handling of the character.

It's not even in development hell... they just don't care.

Funky Fly 09-15-2009 07:31 PM

Nigga they got Batman, why the fuck would they care? Bruce Wayne is a license to print money.

Kalyx triaD 09-15-2009 07:41 PM

A fitting element.

Funky Fly 09-15-2009 07:44 PM

I dunno, I figure they're happy as long as they have the license and no one else can do anything with it... like when Fox had Watchmen.

Kalyx triaD 09-15-2009 09:59 PM

That's pretty gay.

Kalyx triaD 09-18-2009 08:34 AM

Any Takers? Casting Call!:

[CAROL FERRIS]
26-32, a smart and attractive woman with an MBA. She started as a pilot and now runs Ferris Aircraft. She is a work-a-holic...FEMALE LEAD

[DR. HECTOR HAMMOND]
27-35, Character actor who is austere and impersonal, he is real "scummy." He is a pathologist and also the son of a Senator.

[SINESTRO]
Mid-30s to Mid-40s, he is smart, tough, intimidating and in great physical shape.

[ABIN SUR]
Mid-30s to mid-40s, he is a great warrior.

Indifferent Clox 09-22-2009 02:29 AM

Peep the Newest "Loser":

Zoe Saldana (who's really getting around the geek circuit, smart girl), appears as Aisha in the movie adaption of The Losers.

And here's the rest of the Losers.

http://www.superherohype.com/nextrai...erssetnew2.jpg

Zoe was previously seen in the Star Trek reboot and will appear in Avatar playing one of those blue elven thingies. The Losers feature that cool guy from Watchmen, who wants to be Lobo next...

Kalyx triaD 10-17-2009 02:13 PM

...No Evil Shall Escape My Might...:

Jackie Earle Haley is building up a resume for playing messed up individuals, as he's a front runner for Green Lantern villain Sinestro! And Brandon Routh may have work after all as Superman may have a cameo in the film. If it's anything like the rough I heard about a year ago, it could be: The ring, searching for a new host flying past Clark Kent - on the count of his dishonestly!.

D Mac 10-19-2009 04:00 AM

October 17, 2009 - If this new rumor pans out then actor Jackie Earle Haley has just become the go-to-guy for DC's live-action comic book adaptations.

Ain't It Cool News reports that a source within the production of Green Lantern that Haley is the leading candidate to play the villainous Sinestro in Warners' forthcoming movie.

Haley is best known to fanboys for playing Rorschach in Watchmen and for his supporting role in the TV series Human Target, both of which are based on DC titles. Haley will soon be seen as the new Freddy Krueger in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

AICN also adds that it's heard that, in an attempt by DC and Warners to take a page from Marvel's cross-over playbook, Superman will indeed havee a cameo in the Green Lantern movie as has been previously rumored.

Impact! 10-19-2009 04:54 AM

Isn't that basically what Kalyx said

D Mac 10-19-2009 05:43 AM

It's confirming it smartass.

Kalyx triaD 10-19-2009 04:28 PM

Nah, pretty sure it's what I said.

Kalyx triaD 10-26-2009 07:06 AM

Would you guys like to go here for updates from now on? Give it a try.

Kalyx triaD 10-31-2009 04:04 AM

Smallville's going for ten seasons. And the Green lantern movie will have over 1,000 effects shots.

Shadow 10-31-2009 01:57 PM

...10....seasons?

WHAT!?

Lock Jaw 10-31-2009 04:29 PM

I know Green Lantern by necessity needs a lot of effects shots, but I hope they don't go overboard with CG.

Kalyx triaD 10-31-2009 05:49 PM

Actually if there's any superhero who gets a free pass for an overload of special effects it's Green Lantern. He can't even fly without glowing green and leaving a streak or something. And imagine if they adapt the recent GL effects from the comics where the symbol floats around them? This movie is gonna be a lot of green.

Lock Jaw 10-31-2009 06:18 PM

I was thinking more along the lines of CG aliens and CG sets. Good example is the Star Wars prequels.

Kalyx triaD 10-31-2009 06:21 PM

I don't think they'll go that route. Hopefully anyway.

Fignuts 11-01-2009 05:03 AM

I think the first movie will stay pretty grounded on earth. Introducing the entire corps and having adventures in space and on OA is something that would be better for a sequel.

Although if it does happen, I can't see how it won't be a CGfest, like Lockjaw said.

I'm sure they'll just be super friends with Clark and company.

Kalyx triaD 11-10-2009 08:40 PM

Pam Grier will appear in Smallville as Amanda Waller, a character who often appeared in DC stories as a government figure connected to... major shit. She may have a role in the upcoming Suicide Squad story, but will appear in the Justice Society episode.

Meanwhile, we'll probably never see Bruce Wayne and Diana on the show. This makes me sad.

Lock Jaw 11-10-2009 09:35 PM

I hope she gains 200 pounds to play the role.

Kalyx triaD 11-12-2009 09:09 AM

SHAZAM Your Damn Mouth!:

Last we heard of the Captain Marvel movie, they were adding "edge" to it as a response to TDK's success (a false move, IMO), and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was attached as Black Adam. Now it's said that the movie is still straying from the original family comedy premise (which would have been fitting), and The Rock is in line to portray Captain Marvel himself now.

Sounds shaky right about now...

Lock Jaw 11-12-2009 02:05 PM

Also shaky is the news that they are making a Sgt. Rock movie, but instead of World War II, they have decided to make it set in the future.

I remember when the rumor was going around about a JLA movie which did not include Christian Bale as Batman and poor intro to characters. Anything but that..please

Reavant 12-28-2009 11:07 AM

your never going to get a JLA movie with christian bale in it. His character wouldnt work in that movie anyway.

Kalyx triaD 12-28-2009 11:15 AM

Then he gets replaced. No actor/director is bigger than the mythology.

LuigiD 12-28-2009 11:49 AM

I can live without it. But it would be nice for a change to keep a Batman actor..not like that ridiculous shit they pulled off in the 90's. DC needs to get going with their movies anyways. they are way behind. I read some column and someone said something like "DC better get to it before gets bored of comic movies."

Reavant 12-28-2009 02:35 PM

its not even the fact that is christian bale. the batman character from the recent movies wouldnt work. The 90s batman is the type of batman you would get in the jla movies.

Kalyx triaD 12-28-2009 04:18 PM

I think the brooding "I lost my parents, love, and friend" Batman would be great. The concept of the super-team invites heroes of wildly different backgrounds. Continuity wise it doesn't have to be TDK Batman in JLA, some revision is needed.

Reavant 12-28-2009 04:45 PM

yea thats what im saying

Blake Lively of Gossip Girl will be GL's Carol Ferris. Hal's girl and eventually Star Sapphire of the recent 'girly' Lanterns (hard to keep up). Most likely her extraordinary duties will be downplayed in the first movie. Her role in the animated New Frontier is probably an accurate idea of how she will be used in live action.

Shadow 01-10-2010 05:44 PM

Hey Kalyx. I might not read much in the way of comics but Star Saphhire has been a major GL villian for years now. It's only been recently they've gone with these multiple Lanturn corps due to Blackest Night being in full swing.

You're right, I was thinking Carol was some 'new generation' Star Sapphire. I never knew who Star Sapphire really was until recently. I've only just studied up my GL knowledge.

Actor Peter Sarsgaard is in negotiations with Warner Bros. to play a key role in the new Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds that Martin Campbell is directing. Sarsgaard will portray the chief villain in the new movie, Hector Hammond, the son of senator who acquires great psychic powers from a meteorite. Created by John Broome and Gil Kane, Hammond first appeared in 1961 and is that relatively rare supervillain who does not use an alias.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. hopes to get the big-budget Green Lantern movie in production in New Orleans in March. Sarsgaard, who starred as a charming seducer opposite Carey Mulligan in An Education, one of the best films of 2009, is increasingly typical of the high quality actors willing to take key roles in comic book-based films.

Shadow 01-13-2010 09:08 PM

...Hector Hammond? No Sinestro?

Lock Jaw 01-14-2010 12:33 AM

Sinestro is going to be in it as well. Not cast yet.

Also, in other news, apparently a Spectre animated short is going to come with the new animated Justice League: Crisis on Two Worlds movie. Spectre is a pretty awesome character who I always felt has movie potential. Don't think he has ever appeared in any of the DC cartoons though.

Mark Strong.

Skippord 01-15-2010 10:41 PM

http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2010/01/1...arle-haley.jpg After news broke yesterday that Peter Sarsgaard would likely play the villainous Dr. Hector Hammond in Green Lantern, some of you noted, "What the hey? Why isn't Sinestro the bad guy? He's the yellow yin to Green Lantern's yellow-hating yang, he has a big pink head, he looks like David Niven, and he's pretty much the only Green Lantern villain anyone knows." (Paraphrased.)
Well, guess what, guys: it turns out Sinestro probably is in it! And if he is, Jackie Earle Haley is totally playing him. Hitfix has heard that, "based on the relationship they have with [Haley] from "Watchmen" and "A Nightmare On Elm Street," Jackie Earle Haley is the only choice for Sinestro by the studio," and hints that perhaps he's being set up for villainy in a sequel. So maybe Sinestro will be a good guy in this film, then in the second reveal, "Guess what, Green Lantern, I'm bad! You should have guessed because my name basically contains the word 'sinister'!" And Green Lantern will say, "Welp, etymology fucked me again," which is his catchphrase.

Indifferent Clox 01-18-2010 10:25 AM

I remember when green arrow stole his catchphrase but coudn't pronounce etymology right.

Young Justice, a new animated show based on Teen Titans/Titans (but not linked to the recent show) features Nightwing, Aqualad, and Connor fucking Kent. The style is somewhere between the anime-inspired Teen Titans and Bruce Timm's DCAU style.

The sequel to Sherlock Holmes, which has already pulled Robert Downey Jr. off Cowboys and Aliens (see “Not So Fast, Pardner”), has now taken director Guy Ritchie off Lobo, which had been planned as his next film. Joel Silver, who’s the producer on both Sherlock Holmes and Lobo, told the L.A. Times’ Geoff Boucher that he expected to move forward on Lobo with a new director. Sherlock’s nearly $400 million in worldwide box office, and Warner’s desire to turn the property into a franchise as soon as possible, was the reason for the decision, according to Silver.

You're in luck, you can use Wiki to catch up on what's going on in Batman in the ongoing comics.

Arkham Asylum is a comic by Grant Morrison but the game was not based on the book, just maybe some influence. I would check out the ever popular and (considered over rated) but still really damn good (but short) book, it's called Killing Joke. This has Joker shoot Batgirl, cripple her, take her to an abandoned amusement park and take pictures of her naked in a cage...

Year One
Arkham Asylum
Killing Joke
Dark Victory
Long Halloween
Hush vol 1 and 2

Those are some of popular (and good) Bat-books you can pick up to get into it. I would def hit up wikipedia first though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Batman_comics

Look under Modern Batman.

Important arcs

* Daughter of the Demon and major battles with Ra's al-Ghul: #243 - 245.
* Year One: #404 - 407.
* A Death in the Family: #426 - 429
* Batman: A Lonely Place of Dying #440 - 442
* Knightfall #491 - 500
* Batman: Prodigal #512 - 514
* Batman: No Man's Land #563 - 574
* Hush #608 - 619
* Broken City #620 - 625
* Batman and Son #655 - 658
* Batman R.I.P. #676 - 681

Don't start with RIP. Batman isn't 'dead', he's just been transported back in time with no memory.... but he's getting out of this.

To sorta explain those pics-

Look at this brilliant catch from CBR-

Quote:

As we see in the first few pages of Final Crisis #7, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Supergirl and Captain Marvel put items into a rocket, or a "message in a bottle," and is later seen with Anthro.

The items, that we can see, placed into the rocket are Superman's cape (or someone's S cape), a smaller version of the Bat-Symbol and the story of Batman and the Final Crisis.

As we see in the last page of Final Crisis #7, Bruce Wayne is drawing a Bat-Emblem on the stone wall. Although, Grant Morrison stated that Bruce Wayne will have no memory of who he is. My theory is that Bruce Wayne may have read the newspaper, and that is where he learns of Batman.

(I understand that we may find this out once The Return of Bruce Wayne comes out, I would just like to refresh what we know about or may think.)

What does anybody else think?

Tim Robbins is set to join the Green Lantern feature cast as Senator Hammond, according to the Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog. The Senator is the father of villain Hector Hammond (played by Peter Sarsgaard, see “Green Lantern Villain Cast”).

Other cast members include Blake Lively as Carol Ferris (see “Gossip Girl Is Carol Ferris”) and Ryan Reynolds in the title role (see “Green Lantern Gets a Date”).

The film is set to start shooting in March in New Orleans (if it’s cleaned up after the post-Superbowl parties by then).

Tim Robbins is an excellent actor. Should be good. Still think Ryan Reynolds is a horrible choice for Hal Jordan. Especially considering how perfect he'd be for Guy Gardner.

Yeah, you can. Most trades 'are within its own book' collected story arcs. Most of them. Crossovers just add to the story from other comic/character perspectives.

Or Ryan as Wally West, at least how the DCAU portrayed him. Happy for Ryan professionally, with him punching his ticket to the JLA movie, but I imagined other guys being Hal Jordan - and so many other characters fit for Ryan. Kyle Rayner (if he's gonna be a GL), aforementioned Guy Gardner, Wally West (that he was so going to do after Blade Trinity with David Goyer), others that I may forget.

They could save face by casting David Duchovny as The Question. Just cause.

XL, if you want to read one of the best Batman stories (although it takes place outside "current continuity"), you need to read The Dark Knight Returns.

Or would they use the Renee Montoya version? If so, I could maybe see Janeane Garafolo in the role.

Are you serious?

Which part?

I'll tell you tomorrow. I'm signing off for the night.

I would hurt you if you used the Renee version of the Question. Persobally I vote for Jeffery Coombs. He was kinda...perfect.
