Mr. Nerfect 07-30-2016 08:43 PM

Victoria needs to come back to help out the SmackDown Women's Division.

Evil Vito 07-30-2016 08:51 PM

I actually want to go back and re-watch some of Zack's 2011 stuff when everybody was getting really into him and he wound up taking the US Title. I thought I remembered him being decent in the ring back then but maybe I was just viewing his matches with rose colored glasses because I wanted to see his YouTube work and the following he created get rewarded.

Much like how I was into Alex Riley and it took a while to realize he was he drizzling shits.

Mr. Nerfect 07-30-2016 08:56 PM

Very, very similar. I was actually going to compare him to Alex Riley.

From what I remember, the locker room basically had to plea Creative and/or Vince to let Ryder win since they felt he deserved to get his Mania moment after years of being the butt of jokes by Vince.

Him winning even if it just lasted a day was one of the very few bright spots from this year's Mania.

Ryder winning ended up being the perfect way for Miz to benefit the most with a quick title change. Not only does he get hated even more by the crowd, it also played into people thinking Vince pulled another gag on Ryder. If Zayn was the champ and Owens cost him the title, Miz doesn't get as big of a heel reaction than he did with Ryder.

I thought I read that melina is coming back. She can face sasha banks so we can have the battle of the horse faces.

god...I thought Riley was going to be so fucking huge when he turned on Miz and the crowd was chanting his name. Had a great look, had charisma, seemed to have all the "little things" down like playing to the hard camera, they gave him a kickass theme, etc.

But nope. The crowd was just into him at the time because Miz was a wizard at getting people over.

Damian Rey 2.0 07-30-2016 11:05 PM

Saw a match on Raw in attendance where Riley sand bagged Swagger's gut wrench powerbomb.

Saw Alex Riley at a house show in...2008 I think. Before he was on NXT. He was doing the varsity villain gimmick still. I was impressed by him then, and had high hopes when he turned on Miz.

What a bummer.

I don't know if Karl Anderson has beef with Jey Uso, but he was super overselling everything Jey did last night. Like Jey would punch Karl and he would fly into the corner and flop around on the top turnbuckle before falling over the ropes onto the floor and flopping around some more. Anderson was just horrible. It was bad. I wanted to cry.

Completely disagree. Ryder winning the IC Title brought the title down more than it brought Ryder up. I've heard that petitioning story before, and it just goes to show how much the business has changed. Back in the day when guys drew money, every person in that match would have been trying to petition why they should have been given the belt. Now everybody gets a prize and no one is really over.

Who was the Uso that smelt Becky's hair? There actually seem to be repercussions for that.

Mr. Nerfect 07-31-2016 07:23 PM

I have mixed feelings about Melina coming back. She had a tremendous physique and was a notable female performer, but she seems to have a lot of attitude. I'd rather see John Morrison back.

What is odd about it?

Why do you give such vague, mysterious answers, frank drebin?

Mr. Nerfect 07-31-2016 07:32 PM

If that is his real name.

I think you said it best yourself, the business has changed. Whether we like it or not it's clear WWE has no intentions of ever going back to the way things used to be. For that matter the world itself has no intentions of going back in that direction. We live in a world where the sort of sentiment that got Ryder that belt is praised by society. You constantly see where high-school kids let their disabled friends score a winning touchdown, or make them prom king/queen just to be nice and make everyone feel good. Fact is the wrestling industry as it was could never make a comeback in a world like the one we live in now.

Besides giving the U.S. belt to John Cena did nothing to elevate it. If giving one of the "you tried" belts to a guy like Cena couldn't help it then nothing will. The IC and U.S. titles are doomed at this point. They're the TNA of title belts in that their reputations are irreversibly ruined. Short of flat out scrapping them and making totally new titles there is no way the secondary titles will ever matter again.

Only problem is assuming the idea was whoever wins the belt immediately drops it, then nobody except the Miz really benefits in the end. By letting Ryder win, at least a genuine "feel good" moment happens at Mania and the locker room feels happy for a guy who Vince/management go out of their way at times to ridicule.

Would also feel like a waste for Zayn's first main roster title be just a 1-day reign ending in possible shenanigans. Same for wasting some of Owens' star power on a meaningless reign.

Everyone else would basically feel like a bigger waste of a reign assuming once again the idea was to just hold it for a day.

I'm sure he's a great guy, he just sucks as a wrestler. His run with the US Title was almost five years ago now. Wow.

It'd be a feel good moment if Spike Dudley won the WWE Title too. Let's do that.

The business has changed, but arguably not for the better. I'm really glad Zack Ryder has got lots of friends that want to put him over and stuff. That's the sort of mentality that would get Brutus Beefcake in main event matches though. There's a reason Zack Ryder is a not a legitimate mid-card threat. I used to think it was because he got over on his own, but I think there's more to it. Competition is what drives those in WWE to get better. When everybody is safe and has got a great cushy spot, why would anyone ever get any better?

Who in the WWE full-time, besides John Cena, is an actual draw?

Evil Vito 07-31-2016 11:16 PM

If I ever shook hands with Zack Ryder I would have a slight feeling of awkwardness knowing I've fapped to his girlfriend before.

Frank Drebin 07-31-2016 11:16 PM

The feel good moment was possible because it was just the IC title. The days of it being the #2 or "workers title" are long gone. You can use it and it's legacy to have a feel good moment because it means dog shit present day.

The question of who is a draw besides Cena is more interesting to ponder. Throw out all "they should have booked abc xyz and they'd have been the next Cena" arguments and just look at it on paper. Who brings eyeballs to the product?

Rock, Lesnar and 'Taker I'm guessing. Full time guys? Dunno.

Evil Vito 07-31-2016 11:24 PM

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised at the amount of hate Noid is showing for Ryder.

I always thought two things:

1. Ryder is a guy you just can't hate
2. Noid is a guy who doesn't hate anyone

Clearly, I'm wrong with both.

Personally, I've always liked Ryder. Sure, he'll never be the top guy and even I don't think he's that good that he could be the top guy, but seeing him challenging for either the Intercontinental or United States Championships just feels right to me.

But I do think a change is needed. He's been pretty much the same since around 2009. He's been this happy and somewhat goofy underdog for what has felt like forever. There's a new underdog on the scene and that's Sami Zayn. Ryder can't really be the underdog anymore.

These days, he's pretty much just himself, whereas before he had the gimmick of an arrogant Long Island "guido". I think maybe he should return to that but with more focus being on his arrogance than the whole "guido" thing.

Have him forget about the fans and claim that they were just jumping on the bandwagon when he was rising up the ranks during the run of his YouTube show, but as soon as he fell to the bottom, they forgot about him. Have him cheat, attack people and even objectify women to a degree and claim they can't wrestle and so on. (Which in turn, will have the women "prove him wrong" yadda yadda yadda)

Just have Ryder be a dick and chase the Intercontinental Title until eventually he cheats to win it. Seeing a heel Ryder title run will be different and refreshing. Better than him winning a championship and then the announce team being shocked and yelling that he's achieved his dream, and then the next night, Ryder constantly reminds us that he's wanted to win that championship since he was a little boy watching a former champion win the championship.

He did it both times when he won the US and IC Titles.
