He's literally just a brick with arms.

Supreme Olajuwon 07-02-2023 11:19 PM

I like that. He looks like he’s suplexing dudes who don’t want to be suplexed.

At first I was gonna make a comment about how he’s just tossing around smaller guys, and then they cleverly threw in some Vader clips at the end.

Mr. Nerfect 07-03-2023 07:21 AM

I haven’t seen much of Gary Albright, but that is impressive. He was only 36 when he died in 2000.

I think we can agree that we need more guys like him who can suplex Kenny Omega on his head.

Mr. Nerfect 07-03-2023 09:34 AM

Yes, we can definitely agree on that lol. Gary the Great Unifier (I’m not giving the credit to Omega).

The worst part is, Charlotte looked more feminine when she showed up in NXT looking a lot like her dad in the 80s.

And I'm almost willing to bet these decisions are manipulated comments from people in suits and in the truck. Like, there is - for example - a difference from a self-concious girl who has always been flat getting a modest tit job, and a lady who already has a respectable rack getting cartoon sized chesticles disproportionate to her body. One is more of a boost for the ego, the other is likely suggested from outside words and deeds and usually to the detriment of the recipient.

Meanwhile, its the same company that would take someone like Becky Lynch and shit on her accent and make her want to hide her impressive (pre baby, mind you) abs.

Ok. Hear me out.

They didn’t pull the trigger at MITB because they’re holding off for SummerSlam to “finish the story” between Finn and Seth 7 years to the event.

I’m not sure if they run back Seth and Finn again or if they do Seth vs someone else. Let’s go with the former for now though.

Hard fought battle, Finn just can’t put Seth away though. Priest comes to ringside with his case like he did at MITB. Seth goes for the Curb Stomp to finish Seth off and BAM! Priest smashes Rollins with the case causing the DQ. When Finn comes round he’s obviously pissed, Priest is cashing in at his expense. Only he’s not. He hands Finn the briefcase, Finn is surprised but hands it off to the ref. Bell rings, Coup de Grace, new champ.

It’s a unique way to use the case, gets the belt on Finn allowing Seth to chase, cements Judgment Day as a solid unit with Priest sacrificing his own opportunity to allow Finn to “exorcise the demons of the past” so to speak. Priest knows his time will come especially as JD are stronger together.

I know what you’re going for, but I’m just not feeling it. Also, why would Priest not tell Finn his plan? :p

I concede that there’s something they could have done in the UK with Balor and Priest both walking out with something, but if Finn couldn’t get it there, I don’t think he’s getting it anywhere anytime soon.

Gail Kim and Gisele Shaw are a team in the latest season of The Amazing Race Canada. They say they are out to prove that wrestlers aren't just dumb.

Later that episode, Gisele can't understand the clue and does the challenge wrong multiple times, going from first to start the challenge to last to leave. Was a "simple" challenge that everyone else understood and did right away. Took Gisele two times not understanding and doing it wrong before realizing what she had to do.

Then Gisele fails a memory challenge 8 times after that.

End result, they came in last and have been eliminated in the very first episode due to stupidity.

Gail Kim looked great, though. Looks like she hasn't aged in 15 years or more.

4th of July season always reminds me of Lex Luger and therefore of the wonderful absurdity of Summerslam '93

Luger being carried around on the shoulders of the babyfaces while balloons and confetti fall over a fucking countout, no title change finish remains one of the funniest things ever.

On his A&E doc a couple years ago basically everyone interviewed admitted that it just made him look so dumb that there was no way they could've actually put the title on him. He'd already blown the big celebration over nothing and there wouldn't be any catharsis.

Idk, that Mania 10 crowd seemed to be pretty hot for him. But yes, even as a dumb 7 year old kid, always thought the celebration at the end was really stupid.

A new Japanese Joshi wrestling promotion reportedly is currently planning to launch this Fall in the United States, according to PWInsider.

Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that this upcoming new promotion will be entirely Japanese-based Joshi talents coming into the United States for shows. This new promotion reportedly is currently planing to utilize female talent from existing Japanese Joshi promotions running their own events in the U.S.

Johnson reported that those spoken to stated that this upcoming new promotion is also currently working on plans for the production side to set it apart from other promotions in regards to their goal of creating a different “atmosphere” to their events and resemble “authentic Joshi wrestling.”

Johnson also reported that this new promotion also currently has plans to raise its profile to larger audiences outside of just a pro wrestling audience. The group behind this new promotion reportedly have invested significant resources and have enlisted notable names from the entertainment, media, wrestling, and fashion industries for their front office.

Johnson reported that this new promotion could launch as early as this September and hold their debut event in New York City, New York based on those spoken to from a venue already booked for this new promotion.

I'm glad y'all are excited, because I can't see this as anything other than an overly ambitious mistake that's going to cost someone a lot of money.

Destor 07-07-2023 07:51 PM

Never said i was excited. I said it was interesting. Its untested waters and that brings an air of intrigue. Are they going to tap into something i couldnt have predicted? I never thought the US Indy style would become the predominant style in the globe and yet here we are.

So here comes someone witb a vision. And i see the vision and immediately think that womens wrestling doesnt even draw when the wwe is selling it like its a billion dollar idea. And with that the womens segments still hemorrhage viewers everytime they go up to bat.

But here comes a foreign investor with an idea thats completely off the wall. But its still a vision. And you can never discredit art when its done with the proper passion because then it just needs execution and exposure.

My immediate question whos bumping because youre going to need to level workers to even dream of making this work AND you need enough of them to not oversaturate the ones you want in key spots. Is the Joshi pool deep enough for that? The number of women in the US who can draw is so shallow that it kills any hope of them having real traction after 6 months.

Now i love puro, or what puro was before the US Indy cancer took hold over it, and i love Joshis when then working Kings Road or Strong Style. So i see this and think, well im in the demo they hope exists. So i can for certain see me checking the product out. No question. But will it work? Can it work? I dunno.i doubt it but ive been wrong before.

But yeah, its pretty interesting.

It depends on where they're pulling from. Stardom has a wealth of talent, but I doubt they'd get anyone from there. Sendai Girls, Seedlining, and Marvelous are relatively close in style to classic AJW, but they each only have 3-5 really notable talents. Tokyo Joshi Pro has some good talent too. Besides that, there's a stand out here or there, but it's mostly crap.

The biggest problem is none of these women speak english. If they really go hard into making this feel different and focus on pure sport presentation as opposed to typical story and character based stuff, it MIGHT be intriging enough to work, but it's still going to be an uphill battle.

it really boils down to what will it take for it tobe profitable. There's a not insignificant number of anime fans and they nearly exclusively consume the product in Japanese so i think the language barrier isnt a big deal as long as your goal, and budget, reflect a realistic expectation.

Any show is successful as long as it generates enough revenue to properly motivate making future shows. The bar of success isnt "well youre in 2nd place so youre a loser" any more than "well you're in 100th place so youre a loser." If the people behind it are growing their coffers then its successful. So again its all about what are they aiming for and itll be interesting to see how it pans out.

Ive contended for time something like a twitch or a kick is the ideal platform for a wrestling product. Its free global distribution plus you get the gate regardless. I think crowd funding for increasingly niche ideas is the future of entertainment as a whole. You put something like this in the right physical market and build up a healthy online following that subscribes/donates/etc i could see a scenrio where this works pretty easily.

Fignuts 07-08-2023 05:42 PM

You're not wrong, but going off the article, it sounds like they're throwing a lot of money around. I'd be more hopeful that they could successfully generate that revenue if this was a modest indy show like Shimmer.

I'd surmise there was a gentlemen's agreement for that one. "Let's just go out there and beat the fuck out of each other."

Those two had the same match for 8 months and it never got old

Sorry for the shit quality, but here's that time Terri Runnels saved Mike Bells life after Perry Saturn had decided he was going to try and kill him lol

Perry was probably high on meth.

Not in the same way. One would be bull bottom-down. Another would be top-right quadrant bull, bottom-left bull, etc.

Yup! A couple times. They weren't as well received as the JBA's, mainly because of their looks. Plus the JBA's had a more "crowd pleasing style" for this audience.

I was watching Taz's Royal Rumble debut match and it seemed like they messed up one of the suplexes and it made for a very strange awkward sequence.

Heard an interesting tidbit today

If Mike Tyson doesn't bite Evander Holyfield's ear, WCW wins the Wrestling War

WCW was talking with Tyson's camp about appearing on Nitro after the Holyfield fight but broke off negotiations after the bite.

WWF Raw was on the verge of being canceled around this time and the roster was so bare post Screwjob that there's no way Austin holds him momentum without Tyson.

WCW may have outlasted WWE then and there, but it still would've collapsed under the weight of its own stupidity eventually.

I love thinking about these types of scenarios.

Like if Cyndi Lauper doesn't happen to sit next to Cap Lou Albano on an airplane that there's no Rock and Wrestling connection

Josh Alexander made his return to Impact Wrestling at Slammiversary. Eric Young also showed up, but I’m not sure if that was a WWE allowed spot or if he’s back full-time.

It’s a shame that Impact has got the stank on it that it does. It’s got the third best commentary team in wrestling.

I was watching Royal Rumble 93 the other day and Macho Man was so over. The crowd was going insane for him. I can’t understand how Vince didn’t want to use him properly in this period. Yes, he was focused on a new generation, but he was happy using King and Backlund. I think Macho was only around 40 at this time. Guys like Balor and AJ are older today than he was then, and he was a genuine star.

Macho vs HBK at Mania would have been something special.

Sepholio 07-17-2023 02:04 AM

The injury bug strikes again for WWE. Looks like Bayley blew her knee out again at a house show earlier tonight. Looked like she was in a lot of pain and I read she limped to the back with a little help.

Vince had a weird thing with some guys hitting 40. He’d change in later years.

WWF Dies in 97/98...

WCW and ECW Dies in 2001...

Wrestling Society X forms in 2006 and dominates the wrestling industry.

Mike Tyson doesn't bite Holyfield's ear. Instead Holyfield bites Tyson's ear. Holyfield gets suspended from boxing and starts a career in WWE as "Big E". When Big E Langston joins the WWE, he is instead named Billy Langston, Esquire and is given a gimmick as a lawyer. Billy Langston is given a gimmick where he sues the WWE over everything including after every match and when he sees a potted plant fall over backstage but the gimmick doesn't get over and he gets fired and debuts in Impact wrestling as "Size E" and his catchphrase is "I'm size E, the E stands for extremely large" but gets put in a program with Tommy Dreamer where they feud over who is larger. They weigh each other every week and Langston does exercises to increase muscle mass to weigh more while Tommy Dreamer eats McDonalds 3 times a day to get fatter and weigh more.
