Mankind and Kane in '98 being allowed to go all out in an actual match in the Cell would've been a brutal outing that we probably would still be talking about today. Mick was fucking insane back then.

I remember Storm admitting that he and Val Venis considered politicking for a spot in the 4-way tag at Mania 20 after having been bumped to Heat the year before. Jindrak and Cade were in the 4-way despite being brand new to the roster and though Vince was high on them, they weren’t going over and he believes Vince had a soft enough spot for respected veterans that they could’ve gotten their spot if they’d lobbied for it.

In the end feels they did the “right thing” by not trying to force their way on, but not ever having a main card Mania match definitely is something that bothered him.

XL 05-26-2023 02:24 AM

Interesting. How long is the list of respected guys that worked WWE that never had a main card Mania match?

GD 05-26-2023 02:28 AM

Mr. Nerfect 06-04-2023 03:40 PM

Still love Shelton Benjamin.

Mr. Nerfect 06-04-2023 03:42 PM

Would love to see Shelton Benjamin in a heel faction in NXT. Put him, Ziggler, Cedric and maybe Corbin together as heel veterans running roughshod all over the roster. Not that big on Cedric, honestly, but maybe something falls out there.

Mr. Nerfect 06-04-2023 03:46 PM

Thinking about the Shawn Michaels/Shelton Benjamin match. Gold Rush tournament was not a bad idea. For those that don’t remember, it was a bunch of guys who had never been champion bracketed against guys who had been, with the wrestlers not knowing who their opponent was going to be. Can’t remember if it was only the challengers who were surprised, but that would make sense.

So you could have Nakamura out there and then AJ Styles could be his opponent. Zayn could be out there and then Owens is his.

Mr. Nerfect 06-04-2023 03:48 PM

What I miss is guys having the chance to stand out. Now everybody does so much it doesn’t feel like there is the real opportunity to give someone a sleeper performance like that.

Their best gimmick for that is probably the gauntlet match. That always seems to get whoever they want over there pretty fast. The wrestler that beats Reigns should probably go through a bunch of people in a gauntlet first.

Mr. Nerfect 06-04-2023 03:54 PM

Fuck it, have Shelton beat Reigns at this point. Who cares? Shelton wins a gauntlet and Reigns is like “really?” and Heyman is like “don’t underestimate him” and “he’s got nothing to lose.” Cedric offers to help Shelton, but he wants to do this on his own. MVP wishes Shelton luck. Same with Lashley. The Hurt Business run off Solo Sikoa and then The Usos hit the ring and cost Reigns the title. Shelton wins the title and celebrates as The Gold Standard in professional wrestling.

You could also get R-Truth involved in there somewhere. A new Hurt Business of Shelton, Lashley, MVP, Cedric and Truth could be ace. Not even opposed to Omos being there, but I probably wouldn’t choose to include him. Something about him and Lashley both being in it doesn’t work for me.

Mr. Nerfect 06-04-2023 03:57 PM

MVP presents Shelton with a new WWE Title after he beats Reigns ala Lashley and the US Title.

Mr. Nerfect 06-04-2023 04:00 PM

Shelton beats Brock. And Cody. Gotta give him some good challengers. Seth then wants to unify against Shelton, but Reigns can have issues with Seth going for that spot and he costs Rollins. Shelton now has the WWE Title and he presents Lashley with the World Heavyweight Title.

Mr. Nerfect 06-04-2023 04:02 PM

Love that Reigns has a belt that says “Undisputed.” WWE already acknowledging that the World Heavyweight Championship is not a real World Title. It’s just fuel for the story as to how great Roman Reigns is.

XL 06-04-2023 04:02 PM

This is like the old Noid breaking through. It’s like a real life Get Out.

Mr. Nerfect 06-04-2023 04:24 PM

There’s no Old Noid. It’s all just me, baby.

To be cynical about it, WWE probably wants more black Hall of Famers. They’re also probably worried that whoever beats Roman is probably going to be crushed by it. Giving it to Shelton is “shocking” enough that it doesn’t really matter if that’s going to be the greatest thing he ever does in wrestling. It also helps spread that out to the rest of The Hurt Business, specifically Lashley, Truth and MVP. And at least Cedric will matter.

Agreed. It’s a bucket with holes in it.

The weirdest thing for them would be to get a new TV deal. The visibility could get them eyeballs which could boost attendance and give it more “life.” They’re owned by Anthem which owns AXS, but that doesn’t disqualify them from diversifying.

They’re probably profitable at this point and that’s all that matters to the suits, so why rock their own boat? It’s just not as rewarding as it could be for the viewer.

It’s better than them all being big WWE logos, I guess.

Wish we’d get an update, bigger version of the winged eagle but the new one isn’t bad and I’m a sucker for white straps.

Well, they kinda are lol.

What I see in that picture is that Rhea looks like a goddamn superstar with that belt and they better not fuck this up

Lock Jaw 06-13-2023 10:52 PM

Lots of Rhea videos have been popping up on my YouTube Shorts suggestions recently because of algorithm... she is quite the looker without the makeup (not that she is a horrible with the makeup)

All of this.

Something about her ticks vastly different boxes with me when she's gimmick'd up and in street clothes. All in good ways. Just seems to be whether one would prefer Rhea in the streets and Mami in the sheets or vice versa.

"I'LL TAKE 'EM BOTH; I'M HARDCORE!!!"

You better watch those comments or Buddy Murphy will Tweet passive aggressive messages at you

I kinda hate it, myself. The newer "World" stuff is more stylish than the simple "brand color coded giant W" thing they were doing with all the belts, but it's still- I dunno... I want to say they're too ornate and too simplistic simultaneously.

It feels like WWE lost the plot about their championship belts after the Cena US spinner gimmick... which fit Cena at the time. Keeping it that way instead of leaving it as Cena's "Smoking Skull" made it stupid. Co-opting that design for the one of the WHCs was worse (especially initially, since the wheel wasn't counterweighted and the topheavy "W" kept flopping upside-down).

The last time I really "liked" any of the belts was the absurity of the Daniel Bryan "eco-friendly" strap. Before that was way back when Cody re-introduced the classic style white strapped IC title during his "undashing" phase.

Most of them anymore look like they're trying too hard to make them look like toys so that they can market toys instead of any sort of sought after trophy and decoration.

To be perfectly honest with you - and I don't particularly mean this as a diss on Murphy - I would be less afraid of Buddy and more afraid Rhea would take me up on it... because pain is not my kind of fun, but at the same time, I would not want to say no to her from both genuine fear of her kicking my ass and "eh, I'll give this a try because Rhea". I would let her use me as a chair like one of Dalton Castle's boys just to start. To anyone else, if they even suggested that to me, I'd instantly tell them they were crazy as hell for even bringing it up.

Either way, I will physically - and maybe slightly mentally - regret everything.

After.

There a great many folks who aren't normally into wrestling are big into Rhea.

A lawsuit brought forth by former TNA wrestler Rhaka Khan has been thrown out. It claimed a large number of people conspired to kidnap her and her children including Jim Cornette, The Rock, The Miz, Nikki Bella, the NYPD, the FBI (no word on if Tracy Smothers was included), Chris Benoit, Mick Foley, Michael Jordan and Home Depot.

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-14-2023 08:35 AM

I heard Cornette talking about that. I legit feel really bad for her...like wtf? Clearly has suffered a break from reality.

Also I agree that Rhea is a god damn goddess. She is a very pretty lady but the current mami gimmick is something else. And yes she looks like mega star in that photo.

Don't forget that I was also in the lawsuit, maybe. :shifty:

Always forget how completely unrecognizable Rhea Ripley circa the first Mae Young Classic is

GD 06-15-2023 03:47 PM

I remember a brief period of time in NXT when she was women's champion, the commentators would refer to her as NXT Champion (dropping the women's part). I guess they decided to do away with it once she was booked to face Charlotte at Mania with the strap on the line.

Lock Jaw 06-15-2023 04:01 PM

I remember seeing her in the Mae Young Classic thinking "whoa, she could be a big deal"

GD 06-15-2023 04:06 PM

Especially when Tegan Nox got injured :shifty:
