Orton hasn't exactly been the favored the son of the Authority. And, prior to the recent sucking up, he has been pretty anti authority himself, in a whiny, bitchy sort of way. I dunno. If the plan was for him to eventually turn on the Authority, seems kind of rushed to do it now.

Yes, a lot of his stuff becomes routine, but then again, so does Daniel Bryan's. When he's with the right opponent, Orton can shuffle his shit up and make it compelling. I'm not sure Batista is that opponenet, but whatever.

Daniel Bryan will probably be added if the fans don't get white-hot for Orton right away.

Tweener/Face Viper was fucking awesome when he has his fueds with Christian/Mark Henry. After he dropped the belt to Henry, he floated to his eventual MITB win/current title run.

Emperor Smeat 03-01-2014 09:12 PM

Agree with Vito about Orton has been better when he's a heel/tweener than as a face although also agree with Noid about this heel run for him being pretty bad overall.

He's had some great matches during this run but the whole Authority stuff has been a big mess for him and basically everyone else not Triple H or Steph.

Assuming Batista really is turning heel, best would be to shift Orton as a tweener and Bryan stays as the face for the on-going Authority storyline. Less risk of another "Big Show" moment occurring to Bryan again and Orton can go all in with his Viper persona.

Goddammit, I thought I was the only one. The way he played with the crowd as a face was fucking fantastic. This current heel run has been pretty bad (I'd put most of the blame on the booking being absolute shit) but just go back and watch his matches on Raw during that spell when he was without a story against guys like Jack Swagger and David Otunga. His "cocky face" mannerisms and the way he'd get the crowd going despite having nothing at all to do character-wise was amazing. Especially near the end of the match when he'd start leading up toward the RKO.

I can see WWE teasing a Orton face turn only to wipe it out immediately after the match with Batista, Orton getting another "See, I can make you people love me any time I want" moment.

Mr. Nerfect 03-01-2014 11:36 PM

How about this for an idea:

* Daniel Bryan keeps campaigning for a match against Triple H at WrestleMania XXX.

* Randy Orton keeps developing suspicions that The Authority wants to back Batista as The Face of WWE.

* Triple H, on a whim, gives Orton & The New Age Outlaws a six-man tag against Daniel Bryan & The Usos. If Bryan and The Usos win, Bryan gets Triple H at Mania and Jimmy & Jey get a Tag Team Title match. Orton turns on Billy Gunn during the match and hits him with an RKO. Road Dogg asks him what the hell he is doing and gets an RKO for his trouble too.

Orton essentially turns on The Authority before they have a chance to turn on him. He doesn't change his character, he simply lashes out against the bad guys -- reminding everyone of everything he's done and how he doesn't need any back-up. Triple H is fuming against Orton, and Randy says "Let's be honest, Hunter -- the reason you're mad at me right now is because you know, like I know...you can't beat Daniel Bryan."

Orton putting Bryan over as the toughest opponent he has ever wrestled is an instant way to get him face momentum.

Mr. Nerfect 03-01-2014 11:37 PM

Orton could even beat Batista at WrestleMania and keep his World Title reign going until Bryan ends it.

You're not the only one. I was a huge mark for face Orton. His mannerisms, move set, and ability to sell like crazy for heels made him amazing, even when he wasn't doing anything. And, like you said, he controlled the crowd beautifully.

His recent booking has been shit. He's been made to look like a God damned fluke, who whines and bitched and complains and scrapes by. Is this the worst heel title run going into Mania since 2002 Y2J?

Also, came the the realisation that I have compared The Shield in street clothes to the Beastie Boys on more than one occasion.

3MB has a truly great theme. Why did they put so much effort into something that they clearly have no plans for? Crank this shit, seriously.

I like you, Noid, but your perception is seriously askew.

Anybody Thrilla 03-02-2014 11:18 AM

Would it have been better if Bobby Eaton or Doug Basham cut the same promo?

Hanso Amore 03-02-2014 11:20 AM

Really think Regal could have made the jump to the main event during this period. This could have been the start of something great.

Val Venis.

I agree with Hanso on Regal. That was a great time for him.

Also, another great theme for no reason:

Fun fact: I used Axel's theme as my alarm today and did his pose when I woke up.

Bad News Gertner 03-02-2014 11:35 AM

Lol Axel's theme has been my ringtone for a month

Anybody Thrilla 03-02-2014 11:45 AM

Seriously though...how can Big E have such a wack ass theme/name and they apparently love him...but 3MB and Axel get some serious jams? Makes little sense to me.

CSL 03-02-2014 12:03 PM

on a mildly related note, I enjoy The Usos theme. Probably more than I enjoy them actually #mycontribution

Razzamajazz 03-02-2014 12:15 PM

los matadores' theme is also great

mike adamle 03-02-2014 01:21 PM

Would be real funny if they made the main event of mania a triple threat by inserting Alberto Del Rio in it since he beat Batista on Raw.

I just remember thinking that a "Dastardly Evil Man" like Regal being that same heel character but as a face fighting for something good (like Eugene) was such a brilliant change.

Hanso Amore 03-02-2014 02:27 PM

thats sort of what worked for Orton as a face.
