Yankees are close to dealing Aroldis Chapman.
As long as they get a good haul or prospects, I'm cool with it. #TeamSell |
Chapman is strictly a rental so there's no chance a team is going to give up the kind of monster haul like what Boston gave up for Kimbrel, who has several years left on his contract.
That said my gut says he goes to Washington and I really hope Cashman can pry one of the Nats' top 5 prospects away. The Mets have no chance of winning the division this year so I'm fine having the Nats lose a potential stud for a rental in Chapman. |
Do they need Chapman? Papelbon is having a solid year.
Cubs are in the mix, too.
Andrew Miller is safe. |
Jays released Drew Storen. How depressing.
Sucks. Hope the Padres pick him up and he bounces back ala Fernando Rodney.
It's a damned shame. Really feel for the guy, but it seems like it's all in his head.
Hal's reportedly being a dick and hasn't given Cashman the a-ok to sell off the veterans. :fu:
Although the Indians, Nats, Cubs, Rangers, and the ever popular "mystery team" are in the mix for Chapman. Cubs High-A club scratched their Shortstop from that game tonight, don't know if that's a sign of things to come. |
The more I think about it, the Chris Sale story is fucking amazing. What a complete meltdown lmfao, but also, what a total champ. Almost Costanza-esque in nature.
Guess who has the best record in the AL...

I doubt it hinders his trade value at all. He's signed on the cheap for 4 more years I believe. What he did was stupid and childish, but a team isn't Gibbs suddenly think he's worth less. The ChiSox are still in full leverage mode in dealing him.
Yeah, that's nowhere close to lowering his trade value.
Thanks, Cubs.
I don't blame Sale those uniforms are wack.
I do wonder when dro will realize he doesn't in fact play for Baltimore.
Not sure if I hate people more when they say say WE or the people who complain about people who say WE about sports teams.

It's more of the smug "I told you so" combined with the constant short changing of other teams and then making excuses for the Orioles are trying to downplay their failures. He's the worst kind of fan.
He also seems to think we all despise the Orioles. I mean, as divisional rivals I root against them, but beyond that I don't have much against them. They are formidable opponents for any team and I hope they lose so the Jays can reach the top of the division.
Lol Damo, did you see Dickerson's homer lastnight? Fuck me, that's the closest thing in mlb to a pitcher getting posterized. First 5th deck blast in a long time.
Blue Jays get Melvin Upton Jr. from the Padres for Hansel Rodriguez.
Padres apparently picking up most of his salary
I indeed saw the homer. What a fucking bomb.
Like the Padres/Jays trade. Rodriguez isn't as polished or talented as the last two kids they've acquired but he falls right into the high upside raw talent profile Preller and the Padres have targeted this year. Leave the memories alone, Melvin. |
Do you see any upside for the Jays with Melvin Jr.? He seems to be having a "comeback" season with somewhat serviceable numbers. He doesn't seem to walk and strikes out a lot, with lots of speed. I have a buddy who is fucking furious with the trade, because he thinks Upton is crap as well as a locker room cancer. What's the word on him out of San Diego? Is it a kind of good riddance sort of thing?
Depends on how they use him. He's an offensive upgrade over Pillar. But is lesser defender in center. If they feel that the loss of d is worth it then he's a nice pick up. Really he's a good grab for them anyways. Solid bat with plus d in a corner and good base runner on the cheap.
Pillar isn't gonna lose his spot.
He was a popular presence as far as I've heard. Personally I loved him. I hated the acquisition initially but he's turned back into his old self and is an exciting player to watch.

As for everything else in just enjoying re fact the Orioles are 1 game behind the Cubs for best record in all of Baseball when 98% of all the so called "smart" people had them winning about 75 games which they're on pace to do in anout 3 weeks. |
Be excited and not smarmy. Of course you're excited, they are your team, but stop acting like you yourself have accomplished something and trying to rub in in everyone's faces.
And stop with that shit bag excuses for your team when they fall short or players you like suck. Its not that you're excited for your team, it's that your such a smug ass hat about it and not only try to short change other teams, but put on blinders for your team.
A little objectivity goes a long way. |
ps. if the Jays lose tonight it's all because of Melvin Upton Jr. sabotaging them as one last favour to his old squad :shifty:
Lol
lmfao I rage quit the game after Chavez gave up the home run cuz the Jays weren't hitting. I can only assume me watching the game was a hex.
What's the score? Once the bullpen blew the game I put on Mickey Mouse for my daughter.
I'm convinced the best way to tank but not make it blatantly obvious is to just assemble a really shit bullpen. |
Jays won 7-6 on a wild pitch.
Both teams were decidedly shit. Padres have "something" with their hitters, even some half decent pitching, but yeah, that bullpen isn't so hot. Welcome to the club, lol
At least you guys are in it lol. Honestly I'm glad the Padres are losing. Gives them a better draft spot and higher bonus pool. The current roster isn't going to win. The sooner they turn it over and get the young prospects they do have the better.
Blue Jays & Mariners swap closers.
Drew Storen for Joaquin Benoit. |
They traded crap for crap with each team hoping the crap they traded for tastes better than the crap they traded away.
Pretty sure ClockShot would roll out of bed in the middle of the night to post a trade update here if one popped up on his phone.
Doubt it. My phone sucks.
As proven by Jason Grilli and Fernando Rodney, bullpen guys are weird. A change in atmosphere can do wonders (or the opposite) for their performance.
Jays are hoping their track record of getting guys who were kind of meh in Seattle but good for them proceeds. |
Relievers in general are historically volatile in year to year performance and incredibly difficult to project. It's why I think trading or signing them are unneeded risks. Yes, there's always a Chapman or Kimbrel. But those guys are rare for a reason.
Well you need to get those bridge guys somehow.
I feel like I can't be too hard on Familia given that he was 36 for 36 in save chances and hadn't blown a regular season save in almost a calendar year. But fuck me was this ever a bad time. Against a Cardinals team they're fighting for the Wild Card and right after Cespedes bailed out the team with a late HR. And to allow Yadier Molina to fucking kill them again just like he has ever since 2006.
Speaking of Cespedes...I'm back on the same bandwagon I was last August. Just give the man whatever he wants. I may be done with this franchise altogether if they let him walk. He's literally the entire offense and I'm at the point where I don't even care if he sucks at the end of his deal. The dude can fucking mash and for the next few years while all the pitchers are still here it's worth it.
Aaaaaand Familia blows his second save in 24 hours after not blowing one in almost a year. And the Mets score only 1 run to waste another brilliant effort from deGrom.
I'm done for the year. Fuck this shit. Would 100% support them getting booed out of the stadium. |
Come on Sox. Need a BIG one from Price tonight.
Price will give up 5 runs in like 3 innings
Can you explain why you hate David Price so much? You fucking weirdo.
Anyways, Damo, somewhat tongue and cheek here because I'm sure logistically there is nothing that could make this happen... but after this past 3 game series, the Jays should go out of their way to figure out how to acquire Dickerson... seems like he enjoys hitting at the Rogers Centre, and 81 games a year there would probably do him good. His minor league stats are also fucking ridiculous. You guys may have yourselves a diamond in the rough. Though he could fizzle like anyone else, but damn he looked dangerous. |
David Price has been on 3 AL East Teams so he's pitched a lot 's the Orioles but he's over rated now and it suits the Red Sox just fine to overpay for him.
Really hoping the Cubbies cut Chris Sale up tonight...
Lol he's overrated yet he's easily better than all of 2 pitchers on the Orioles. Yeah.
As for my Dastardly friend. I actually think Dickerson could be moved. In the off-season. The Padres have a corner outfielder with similar tools but a higher upside so I don't think it's outta the realm of possibility. I like what he's show do far. |
Quote:
Neither of them are being paid $30 million to play 35 games
Not what I was asking. Are they overpaid based on their production this year, yes or no?
Jones is hitting .268 with 19 HR and 59 RBI for $14 mil
I have no problem with that since its very close to his career averages (.277 27 and 87) Chris Davis is .223 with 22 HR. He's in the midst of a 1 forv28 drought which was wrapped around him missing 3 days and being in the hospital with the stomach virus. When he shakes the drought he's a streaky enough hitter he could still hit 35+ hrs. Overlooked though is his defensive play he's one of the top 1B in the AL. 17 million sounds like a lot..then you realize Mark Teixeira is making. $19 million and hitting .190 with 9 homers. Prince Fielder is out for the year making $23 million with even worse stats.. |
Are you unable t answer the question? They're both at best average offensive players. Are average offensive players worth $16 and $23 million a year? Or do you think that's an overpay for AVERAGE OFFENSIVE PLAYERS, one of which is a below average defender.
I don't know if you know this Droford, but outs are bad and the rate at which you so something is far more important than than the sum at which you do it.

Or how about Gallardo? Boy that salary and draft pick loss sure look like a great investment for that sparkling 5.37 ERA.
Boy, that Matt Wieters sure looks like a great investment. Good thing they handed him a free $16 million for his 75 games of mediocrity last year. Ubaldo Jimenez has sure been a worthwhile investment for Baltimore. That 7.38 ERA sure is helping his team keep Toronto and Boston at bay. Man good thing Baltimore outbid themselves to land Chris Davis. Gotta think they're happy with a first baseman who's total offense mirrors that of the great Hanley Ramirez and Albert Pujols. |
Quote:
The disadvantage Baltimore has is it doesn't have neither the money or minor leaguers to nab them a big piece. Something those other two teams have plenty of in one department or the other. |
And I take it you're just gonna pretend that your team isn't overpaying Jones or Davis for their mediocre contributions.

The Orioles are 7 games better than they were last year through 100 games. Currently have best record in the American League and 4th best behind the 3 nl leaders. I guess it is a catastrophe. Theres absolutely no way they finish last. |
He's average based on what? He's a terrible defensive outfielder. They've limited him to only playing about half his games out there. Had he been out there 100 times he'd be far worse than his numbers indicate.
And it still doesn't answer the question of Davis and Jones being overpaid to be awfully average. |
Toronto and Boston are 2 back. You think the Orioles are that much better than them? Are you incapable of crediting other teams? Do you understand objective analyses?
Orioles were only 2.5 ahead of Toronto on 7/28/14
They were also 58-46 vs 58-42 now |

Orioles are going to at least win 2 of 3 in Toronto this weekend. Probably Friday and Sunday

Red Sox bullpen has been horrible these past few games. Price actually pitched really well tonight and got nothing to show for it.

Honestly droford i bet the yankees finish with a better record than the oriole
I'll aviatar bet your ass |

Another Marlins and Padres trade:
Padres get: 1B Josh Naylor RHP Luis Castillo RHP Carter Capps RHP Jarred Cosart Marlins get: RHP Andrew Cashner RHP Colin Rea RHP Tayron Guerrero |
I don't think the Orioles are going to make any trades
Love the Padres deal. Have to say I'm very happy with the direction of the team and the front office's aggression in moving out players.
Not sure why Baltimore wouldn't try to facilitate any moves. They're in dire need of pitching and adding an extra league average or better outfielder would do them well. It's great that their pen is lights out but you can't lean on that all year. They need innings from at least one more guy. |
I'm shocked that Gallardo isn't working out for them. I know he's not super all star or anything, but he's always been a solid hand from what I can see. He'll still give the blue jays fucking fits though. They can't hit his soft stuff.

The Padres wanted Gausman for Pomeranz which was never going to happen
LOL Manny just scored from 1st on a ball hit to 2nd
I'm at the game right now.
Good game. Fun to watch, love how calm estrada is under pressure
If the Mets wind up trading Amed Rosario or Dominic Smith for anybody I am going to fucking scream.
There is no point whatsoever in this team being buyers. They are 4 games under .500 since April ended and couldn't hit water if they fell out of a fucking boat. |
If anything, they should be seeing if they can get anything for impending free agents having strong years like Colon or Jerry Blevins. Trade Neil Walker if anybody wants him and call up Dilson Herrera. It's time to punt this season away and start focusing on next year.
Be ready to give a blank check to Cespedes or else Citi Field will go back to being a fucking morgue in 2017. |
I'm going to Blue Jays/ Orioles game again tomorrow afternoon.
My family will be there too.... say hello for me....
Glad they won today.... |

Hope the Jays win today only so Droford could make the excuse that the whole team came down with a case of small pox pre-series.

Do you think Droford is like this in real life? Wold despise sitting near him at a baseball game. Seriously Droford, NEVER take a female to a baseball game with you. She will leave you forever.

I'm in really good seats. Basically next to the ball boy on first base side front row.

Gallardo really earning that paycheck today. Solid outing.
lol. Will say the Jays are lucky to be catching a slumping Os team. I think they'll be tough tomorrow to close out the sweep. Nice ot have taken at least 2 of 3 though, very relieving as a fan :p
Will say, so J.A. Happ has to possess the best value as a pitcher in the bigs right now. |
Wondering if the Jays can make a move at the deadline worthy of note. I know they want Rich Hill but there's question mark with the blistered finger and I don't know who they can give up and if it'd be worth it. I could definitely see him ending up somewhere else.
Os need something resembling starting pitching. Tillman can't be the only guy pitching well and Gausman is clearly a little bit inconsistent albeit pretty nasty. |
Why didn't they keep dome closed? I got ridiculous sunburn. Wasn't even hot I baked in the sun.
My forehead is purple. Sucks it was a bad game, but fun overall |
9-1 for the home team in a packed stadium sounds like a fun day to me. Lol I went to the 14-5 Seattle game, haha now that was fucking brutal... still fun though. Stadium is so much nicer than it used to be.
WOOOOOW Chapman you fucking bum!
