Punk on NXT, coming full circle and being the "veteran" holding down up and coming talent would be a cool use for him.
|
I’d go as far as saying I “want” it to happen now. Punk would never agree, lol. But him taking over the Diamond Mine and going through Bron Breakker, Roderick Strong, Damon Kemp and Solo Sikoa could be fun stuff that could give the show a proper anchor.
You can could do so much with it. Kurt Angle could become a coach for Damon Kemp, with Punk going after the obvious personal issues of Angle. Solo Sikoa could be offered a spot in Punk’s Diamond Mine, but turn it down and be the DDP of NXT. Punk could add Tessa Blanchard to the group, which would be interesting given her failed professional relationship with AJ Lee (you wouldn’t bring it up, but it would be there). He can do the announcer feud with Wade Barrett, who could cut his own “pipe-bomb” about coming out of retirement. |

Have Punk go back to his "savior" gimmick a little bit, and say that he is "saving" the young talent from the wrestling business because "take it from me, the wrestling business will destroy your soul and your spirit just like it destroyed mine"
So he is there to "save" the young talent by taking over NXT and trying to "end their careers" right there before they make it to the horrors of the big stage. |

The same thing that makes swagger bad in MMA makes him bad in wrestling. He's got the personality to cure insomnia. The fight game and MMA are the same game. Because they're both the fight game. And on the other side the same thing that makes Punk a shit tier fighter makes him a shit tier worker: he's a giant pussy.
Everyone who doesnt mind punk being a giant pussy is already watching. And its not cutting it. |
Now if we could mesh them into one guy we'd have a top tier fighter and a top tier worker...
|
Quote:
With Punk though, no amount of skill in pretend fighting should be enough for anybody with any sense at all to forget just how absolutely bad at fighting he really is. Had Punk never done MMA, he could have come back to wrestling and still had the benefit of fans not knowing how inept he actually is. Like Bischoff said, he worked himself into thinking because he was booked to win fake fights that he could actually fight. He cannot, and now we all know it. |
This just reminds me of how special Brock is.
|
Jake Hager is not a good MMA fighter really.

Maybe at the time, because nobody knew where they were going with it, I thought there was an element of shoot to it, but I have my doubts. IIRC I was just like "Oh shit they actually finally let Punk be Punk, this could be good." Retrospectively, it seemed like a work the whole way through, especially once he won the fucking title. And I don't see what's wrong with that. It was really well done. Anyways, in recent times, especially, I haven't talked to anyone who actually thinks it was a shoot. |

Brock has become less and less of a draw over time. By any metric you wanna use to measure it.
It’s almost as if what he did in MMA has become less of a factor and his wrestling booking has effected his drawing power in... ya know... wrestling. |
I’ve used this analogy before: Imagine watching a boxing movie where Mike Tyson, in his prime, plays a fictional version of himself. If he’s loses 50% of the time in the movie, as they build to his big fight while promoting him as an unstoppable beast, are you gonna think “Well, he IS Mike Tyson.” or are you gonna think “This is shit storytelling. I’m out.”?
|
Got buzzed of a dumdum making an analogy.
Imagine the NBA wanted to make a movie about the greatest 3 point shooter of all time Steph Curry. Now imagine they cast Shaquille O'Neal to play Steph Curry. That film would be a comedy of epic proportions, because everybody knows Shaq is a horrible 3 point shooter. FYI, Shaq made one 3 point shot in his entire career, which is one more than the number of wins that exposed fraud Phil had in his MMA career. Phil being presented as the best guy is an embarrassment to AEW. |
LOL @ “Got buzzed” as the new strategy. Holy shit.
|
Of course idiot ignored the entire analogy and focused on something else. Moron, I have ALREADY posted a screenshot in the casual politics thread of a different somebody summoning me to look at and respond to your dumbshit posts. I don't give a fuck if you believe I have you ignored or not. The fact is other people apparently like me calling out the stupid takes or they would not direct me to it. It must be the same way you get sick pleasure beating it to your CM Punk posters.
You think you are winning a debate by actually getting me to respond, but it is not your accomplishment, I am responding by request. Some KOTF lol |
Just in case anybody here is like me and doesn't visit the casual forum much, here is proof of Fan getting owned both then and again now

Solely? I think the lack of other draws in wrestling has something to do with it. Brock could have gotten his ass kicked in MMA and he’d still be the top draw because no one else is a draw.
|
Putting a guy like Seth Rollins over him clean multiple times MAY have hampered his aura a bit too. Lol
If the geek in the midcard is beating you in a few minutes, you can only say “BUT REMEMBER MMA…” so much. The inverse is true too. |

Right. Punk gave them a bump (it was more than just one night). He was over regardless of his MMA career. Hence the bump. Which kinda proves my point. KEEPING the audience from that bump is mostly up to the booking.
The story being told within the realm of wrestling is ultimately what matters. |
The first ppv Punk headlined did 35k more buys than the year before. His first ppv match where he was the main draw over doubled the buy rate the year before. It certainly wasn’t a one night bump.
|
Quote:
|
Yeah, the Summer of Punk SummerSlam did worse numbers than the Nexus SummerSlam the year before. By a wider margin than Punk generated interest for MITB. He’s just not a draw.
|
Or maybe that’s a reflection on WWE’s inability to pull the trigger on the obvious plot direction at the “Biggest Party of the Summer”?

You know what also did a comparatively poor buy rate?
The best Royal Rumble ever (not to be confused with the Greatest Royal Rumble). |
But also, the YoY buyrates are not good reading for Punk on top.

Now, does that affect my enjoyment of the story? Not at all. That’s down to the way it was handled creatively. |
It’s also irrelevant to the subject which was whether his MMA career ruined his drawing ability in wrestling. The bump he provided initially when he returned is evidence that he was just fine. He clearly helped AEW’s business despite MMA. Whatever happened over time after that is a different story.

I’ll say this though: I don’t go back and revisit Punk. I didn’t miss him when he was gone. I’ll still sometimes go back and watch Brock vs. Bryan. I think I’m more likely to check out an old John Cena match than a CM Punk one. My heart still breaks for not having more Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels. There’s this care-factor for Punk that I’ve found just isn’t there. |

It was still on the organic side, they weren't quite fucking with the streak numbers yet (multiple wins on every TV show from Nitro to WorldWide against guys like Blitzkreig or "Lightning Foot" Jerry Flynn to pad the resume isn't the same as just making up impossible numbers), he wasn't yet in the main event picture, so there wasn't much backstage politicking in the way of his clear upward momentum. He was just allowed to be a "force of nature" in both gimmick and as a phenomenon of time and place. People were still allowed to buy into taking the ride. Also, unrelated to any of the above, I would like to acknowledge the Xero sighting, even though I'm a couple days late. |

Would be funny if the reason Punk vs. Mox is on free TV next week is because Punk wants out ASAP.

WWE should re-hire John Morrison for Raw.
|
I did some WWE fantasy booking over the next few months. I never really shuffle the rosters around much. Instead of doing a proper draft this year, I kind of hope they just have a few guys/girls change show upon request.
To Raw: 1. Pete Dunne - Gets attacked at Clash at the Castle by Dexter Lumis. Dunne wants revenge but can’t get across the shows, but he ends up as 24/7 Champion giving him the right to be there. Theory helps Lumis beat Dunne in a Hardcore Match at Extreme Rules to win the belt and Dunne requests his move to go back after them. 2. Sami Zayn - He decides he wants to get away from The Bloodline. They see this betrayal and he gets attacked and has a babyface moment against Roman Reigns. 3. Happy Corbin - He’s had enough of being disrespected by Pat McAfee & Michael Cole on commentary. He puts over McAfee in a Street Fight main event before leaving. 4. Lacey Evans - I don’t know what they have her do. I’ve got her partnered with Bobby Lashley in my head, but I don’t want to drag Lashley down. To SmackDown: 1. American Alpha - Feel they are “misused” on Raw. They are accused of trying to get away from the teams they are feuding with at the time (Dolph Ziggler & Bobby Roode and Shelton Benjamin & Cedric Alexander), only to find that they have also requested their transfer. 2. Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode - See above. Also some fresh meat for Gunther to squash. 3. Shelton Benjamin & Cedric Alexander - See above. Further padding for the SmackDown tag side. 4. Angelo Dawkins - Requests his transfer to try and make it as a singles guy to the “shock” of Montez Ford. 5. Veer Meehan - Joins back with Jinder Mahal and Shanky for a little bit, or gets repackaged as a babyface. You could also call up a bunch of NXT talents to balance out the shows. |
|
Forgot all about Noam Dar and how he got a push once cause Vince thought it was funny how he said "Alicia Fuuuuuuuuuuuux"
(Read his name in the NXT thread but didn't want to post in it) |
I learned via the SquaredCircle reddit that you're racist if you don't like Hit Row.
|
I didn't post anything but someone else said they're trash and got a lot of "wow racism" replies
|
It depends why you don’t like them. I’m not sold on the whole presentation yet. It has potential. AJ Francis has something. Ashante Adonis is athletic. They feel like too much of a gimmick to me right now though. I prefer my teams to have that American Alpha ring work energy.
|
Swerve will be kicking himself that he signed with AEW to be a nothing champ with that husk Keith Lee. AEW is going to have a bit of trouble signing free agents who will be waiting for that WWE call.
Hell, a lot of AEW champions probably want to drop their belts and jump back over. Actually, I’d bet Triple H would be able to sign all the ROH champs if negotiations were open. |
Swerve, Keith Lee, Undisputed Elite all probably kicking themselves with HHH now in charge.
|
The Gunn Club would love to be WWE right now too.
|
I’m actually pretty excited for CATC. Predictions for the rest of the card:
* The Judgment Day vs. Edge & Rey Mysterio. This seems like the direction they’re heading. Edge & Rey have been presented as friends again, 20 years on from when they won the Tag Team Championship together. Finn Balor will probably make the UK card. Edge & Rey are both legends that seem likely to get a spot. Should be a really good tag team match that will involve Dominick’s decision, although I would be totally fine if it’s just a tag match with a finish and Dominik does what he does on Raw. * Bobby Lashley vs. AJ Styles vs. The Miz vs. Omos for the US Title. Kind of thrown together, but the card already has the “workrate.” Lashley, Styles and Miz are all big stars for them, and they’ve all been intertwined. Ciampa can be at ringside for Miz running interference. He’s also fairly new to the main roster, so I don’t think they give him an actual position in the match. Omos is someone they want to be a special attraction, plus he has history with Lashley and Styles. I can see Omos winning a Battle Royal to join Lashley, Styles and Miz for the match. * Happy Corbin vs. Pat McAfee in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. I’m iffy on whether McAfee works this show, but he’ll be there and it’s a stadium show. They’re clearly building towards another showdown between the two. It’d be very easy to get there — Corbin beats Ricochet or something (haven’t seen this week) then he pulls out a football to taunt McAfee. He teases punting it, but then hits McAfee with it and reveals that it was a loaded gimmick. McAfee is a good performer with a good connection to WWE fans. * Kevin Owens gives an open challenge. I always forget he’s on the roster and someone that they really like. He’s a featured enough player getting a renewed enough push for this sort of thing. I can see him cussing out the UK like he did Texas. Tyler Bate answers and gets the upset victory in Wales. That pushes the card to 9 matches, which is a lot for what they’re currently doing. But I think that is a pretty appropriate card and gives off a varied but very WWE flavor. Not everything has to hit 5 stars. That being said, a few of them are probably going to be belters. |
Trish Stratus is going to be on Raw in Toronto.

Somebody ask Fan why CM Fraud doesn't have an A&E Biography. Surely it is not because he is a prick and failure at everything else or anything, right?:rofl::rofl:
