Watching Terry Funk's post match promo after the triple threat between him, Shane Douglas and Sabu on WWE Network and it got me thinking.

How would a comedy crying gimmick go over in 2014? I can't remember it ever being done. I'm talking just a guy who is seemingly normal most of the time who just gets overly emotional at times and cries his eyes out. I can picture a new wrestler coming into Triple H's office and asking for an opportunity and when Triple H is mean to him he slowly starts sobbing while Triple H's scowl goes away slowly and he just looks awkwardly and just asks "Are... are you crying?"

Maybe he gets his first win, gets on the mic and starts crying tears of joy while thanking the crowd. He gets a random win over Curt Hawkins on Superstars and sits in the middle of the ring looking around at the crowd with tears streaming down his face saying "thank you" to the crowd.

I think it would get over as a comedy character in a Eugene, so lame you can't help but love him sort of way.

Cryin Bryan when he finally wins the big one

Droford 03-01-2014 05:39 AM

watching the show Strip the City on science channel and it was all about new Orleans and what they've had to do to hurricane proof everything..

I'd mark out if at WM all of a sudden..."Stand back, there's a hurricane coming through.."

Coincidentally Tropical Cyclone Kofi is headed towards the South Pacific nation of Tonga. Not quite fat and white enough to be a typhoon though apparently

Booker T on the Smackdown post-show just now:

"The Shield are like The Temptations. They're all dead but they're still selling out."

... Yep.

just watching Batista's Smackdown promo. In the space of about 2 minutes he's gone from "eh" babyface to arguably the most entertaining heel in the company. They always say the best characters are extensions/exaggerations of real personalities and he nails this stuff. Love it.

Agreed.

Still don't wanna see him in the main event of Wrestlemania, though.

Or in WWE at all, for that matter. :foc:

I want to see him bring back Kanye-Batista

XL 03-01-2014 11:35 AM

Why did they do it on SmackDown? Seems like that should have waited for Raw. Chances are we get a variation of the same thing there anyway.

Seeing JR's tweet about his "evening with Jim Ross" shows tonight made me look into what he was doing. The fact he had to kill some inbred puppies with a hammer when he was a kid was an interesting story that he probably doesn't need to tell again.

Daniel Bryan's "yes" movement essentially started this way. Over-reacting to everything. Just no tears.

Watching the German edit of SmackDown right now. Can anybody tell me why they edit the order of the segments?

Looks like they like to start with a match, which is fine if it doesn't fuck with the chronology of the story they're trying to tell. For example, this episode went straight from the intro into an announcement that Ziggler stepped up to take that challenge of Batista and that the match had been made official via the app. We then went into the Big E/Henry vs. Real Americans tag match. Following that we launched into the opening segment with the commentators tell is where we are this week, Batista enters, cuts his promo, then Ziggler comes out to accept the challenge that we'd already been told about at the start of the show.

Any German fans out there able to explain it? Surely they've noticed that the chronology is all over the place.

Cool King 03-01-2014 02:30 PM

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Batista's promo on SmackDown. Hopefully this is him reverting back to the way he was when he was feuding with Cena and then decided to quit. That Batista was fantastic.

Now, I'll just need to find his promo to watch and see it for myself, or even better, find all of SmackDown and watch it.

It was really good. Heel Batista is the best heel in the past decade. I love that "boo hoo" face he makes to the fans. Lol it's really great and he's gonna get major heat from the fans.

GD 03-01-2014 04:40 PM

I highly dislike the flowers on Batista's back.

Mr. Nerfect 03-01-2014 06:21 PM

Gotta be honest -- didn't really dig Batista's SmackDown promo as much as everyone else seems to. I think the character is a move in the right direction. Do they turn Orton de facto face now? Considering how weak he is portrayed as a heel, it may not be a bad idea. Will the fans still shit on it at WrestleMania XXX? Probably.

Damian Rey 03-01-2014 06:32 PM

Just watched it myself. Personally loved it. Per usual, Heeltista's digs about the fans needing to go back to their jobs at Hot Topic and liking some of the 190 pound wanna be's because they "look like me" lol. Good stuff.

If Daniel Bryan isn't shoehorned into the main event, Orton may in fact be turned face by default. Can't say I'm excited about it.

Bad News Gertner 03-01-2014 06:54 PM

It was just perfect. People are going to hate him. When was the last time a heel got real heat?

Damian Rey 03-01-2014 07:22 PM

Triple H was a pretty dastardly bastard back in the late 90s/2000. May be the last time. Heel Batista is going to be fucking amazing if they let him continue to rip the fans. Especially if he uses the patented Gertner "basement dwelling virgin" material.

We noted before that John Cena told fans after last night's WWE live event in North Charleston, SC that he was suffering from a groin injury. PWInsider reports that while the knee injury was a planned angle on Monday's RAW, John Cena did in fact suffer a groin tear. Cena was said to be "pretty bad off" backstage at last night's live event but was gutting through it because of WrestleMania season. Word is that WWE wanted to pull Cena from live events this weekend but he refused.

Mr. Nerfect 03-01-2014 08:01 PM

I think a lot of this may be worked. I'm not trying to put on a conspiracy theorist hat, but Cena will want to be ready to go by WrestleMania time. I'm sure he can understand taking it easy for a few weeks so that he can have a big match with Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania. Cena will be good to go and the injury will add drama.

Damian Rey 03-01-2014 08:01 PM

Fucking Cena. Groin tear takes pro athletes out for weeks if not months.

Mr. Nerfect 03-01-2014 08:04 PM

I hope, anyway. Poor John if he is indeed hurt. I've really been digging him since his return from injury last year and without him holding the WWE Title. It seems like he's got something to prove to himself. Would love to see him work with not only Bray Wyatt, but Luke Harper as well.

I'd put Wyatt over Cena at WrestleMania in a No Holds Barred Match after Wyatt breaks his word and has Harper and Rowan attack Cena as it looks like Wyatt can't quite put him down. Cena wants another shot at that treacherous Wyatt, but Bray makes Cena go through both Erick Rowan and Luke Harper en route to a match with him. Perhaps Cena even faces both in a Handicap Match at Extreme Rules and wins by the skin of his teeth so he can get Wyatt inside Hell in a Cell. You could even have Wyatt attack Cena as it looks liek The Family have him beaten, and Wyatt can claim that he wants to take Cena to Hell with him.

Orton going face again seems like a terrible idea, he's just not a natural face and he's been rather outspoken about how he hates playing the face role. He's way better at being a heel, he's just been booked badly during this Authority angle.

But they probably have no other choice since Orton vs. Batista does seem like it will happen and one of them has to be the face. I just can't see them adding a stip to Bryan/HHH to make it a triple threat, Bryan didn't even mention wanting to be the champion once during Raw and only cares about making HHH tap.

Punk is probably the only other guy that could be shoehorned in to the title match. I think meeting his final goal of being in a WM main event would be enough to get him to come back, but really what kind of message would it send that the guy who walked out and basically acted like a baby got his way? Not gonna happen.

Damian Rey 03-01-2014 08:11 PM

If Cena can work, he's more than likely going to face both Harper and Rowan in singles matches prior to Mania. As much as I'd love to see a no holds barred match where Bray somehow goes over, we all know the chances of Cena jobbing to Bray at Mania are slim and none. Probably not going to happen.

With that said, as long as it's a good match, I could give a shit. Cena feuding outside of the title scene is always refreshing.

Don't think Punk getting into the main event at Mania makes sense, even if he does come back. The Triple H match made a ton of sense, but that's clearly not going to happen now.

I just don't see why people love Orton as a heel. While he can have some solid matches, I just can't stand his heel persona. It's boring. The methodical, walking in circles around his opponent for 20 minutes, with tons of rest holds, is boring. His last face run, starting at the end of Legacy through his turn this past Summer Slam, I thought was his best collection of work. He's too boring as a heel for me.

XL 03-01-2014 08:23 PM

The only way I see them turning Orton heel is for HHH to turn on him in favour of Batista, but that kinda puts him in the role Bryan should be playing and I'm not sure the fans will role with it.

Mr. Nerfect 03-01-2014 08:24 PM

I agree with Orton, by and large, being a very boring heel. He spent a lot of time as a face being directionless, but he was so fucking good in the ring as a face. Yes, a lot of his stuff becomes routine, but then again, so does Daniel Bryan's. When he's with the right opponent, Orton can shuffle his shit up and make it compelling. I'm not sure Batista is that opponenet, but whatever.

Daniel Bryan will probably be added if the fans don't get white-hot for Orton right away.
