No, he was talking about how difficult it is for new games to be noticed on all 4 systems as it is, but mobile platforms have 10's of thousands already and 94% of those downloaded games are free, so where's the business model?

He was going for a united front from Nintendo, MS and Sony against the cheap, crap mobile and social network gaming out there now.

FearedSanctity 03-02-2011 01:09 PM

Wow, misunderstood him completely then.

I still think Nintendo should have it's own front against the majority of crap games they OK for Wii before they care about other platforms crap games

During his GDC 2011 panel, Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki said "I think Sega will let me make it," referring to the long-awaited Shenmue 3. However, it's not a guarantee. He couched the discussion by saying it's contingent on budget issues -- by the way, Suzuki said that Shenmue cost $47 million to make, not the patently ridiculous $70 million Sega quoted -- and that he basically could only be sure that 200 people (the people in the room) would buy it.

So it probably won't amount to anything. But Yu Suzuki just sustained our hopes of continued Shenmue regardless.
!!!!!

That's good enough for me.

Its no different than any other time a system is the leader during a generation. Sony never cared when the PS2 had its massive lead and market share (over 10,000 games last time it was tracked).

The biggest difference is the Wii's casual audience is talked a lot more than the PS2's audience and the involvement of both Sony and Nintendo with the audience.

DICE and EA continue trashing Activision and Call of Duty series. They also managed to indirectly insult gamers who play those games even though that same group also buys other shooters and EA games.

Quote:

“We want to make a game for grown-ups. We don’t want to make a children’s game, a twitch, infantry-focused on-drugs sugar-rush experience. This needs to be an adult game with mature features and depth. It’s supposed to be a sport. It should be: ‘I can trust this game.’”
Last game DICE worked on was the multiplayer portion of Medal of Honor reboot which got mixed reviews ranging from decent/good to shallow and very litle depth in terms of features, maps, and modes.

A "leaked" Battlefield 3 gameplay trailer showed off some of the Quick-Time Events (QTE) and graphically looked great on the PC (lead development system).

Nintendo confirms no chance at them sneaking in Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword before June/July even though the game is mostly done.

Rumors were of the game doing something similar to Mario Galaxy 2 and launching in May but Nintendo said the next time new info is given will be during E3 and the game is still set for a late 2011 release date.

Icess 03-03-2011 12:29 AM

May have been acknowledged already, but IGN says that over 70% of people that started Heavy Rain finished it. If true, that number is ridiculous, as I guarantee the usual number is around 25%. I'm kinda hoping that this helps aid a resurgence in GOOD adventure games, especially because I'm still dying to see the next Dreamfall game.

G 03-03-2011 10:08 AM

Heavy Rain was a fantastic game.

Valve recently teamed up with Intel to provide a stronger security and anti-phishing system for Steam.

Once completed, Steam Guard will be a hardware-based security system instead of the more common and traditional software-based system.

No more would fake email messages work to steal passwords since any changes to an account has to be done on the computer (or authorized machine).

Steam Guard will be optional to use in case some users don't want to be "locked" into one machine or are more comfortable in the old system.

Quote:

Steam Guard is a security technology that locks account modification to a single computer. Users will still be able to access Steam and play games they've already purchased from anywhere, but any major changes to the account must be done through the authorized machine.

The service takes advantage of Intel's new Identity Protection Technology, integrated into the second generation of its Core and Core vPro processors. The technology generates a random number every thirty seconds, and Steam Guard will verify that number. If you aren't at that computer, you aren't gaining access.

Don't expect any major changes or a new engine for Modern Warfare 3 after Infinity Ward said any plans on updating or making a new engine won't happen. It also means any major bugs or problems with the engine won't be fixed either as a result.

IW has been using the same engine (although modified per game) ever since Call of Duty 2.

Crysis 2 multiplayer looks like a CoD clone, but man is the game pretty.

BigDaddyCool 03-04-2011 09:20 AM

They need to make a Charlie Sheen video game. A game that is all about winning.

Fignuts 03-04-2011 12:59 PM

I can't wait for the next splinter cell. Been playing conviction a lot lately. Fuck all the haters. The old games were getting stale. The new gameplay is awesome.

Only thing that bothers me is that even if you take out a dozen guys, the one guy left will still be taunting you and act cocky. This wouldn't have been much of a bother, but I played this after arkham asylum, so it was more noticable to me.

Even so, deniable ops is a blast, and I wish they would release another dlc pack for it.

G 03-04-2011 03:09 PM

Conviction is a great game. If they had it on PS3 I would get it again.

Emperor Smeat 03-04-2011 08:07 PM

Hyperdimension Neptunia on the PS3 by NIS could potentially change the way party-based RPGs are played and it involves spending real money.

Traditionally RPGs either let you form your initial party from a pool of characters or let you recruit new characters either by force or as an option. This game lets you recruit characters in your party as long as you actually pay to use them.

You still unlock characters in the traditional storyline way but until you purchase the activation packs on the PSN store ($1.99), they remain "locked" for the entire game.

Unlike most DLC, the difference in this style is how the characters are actually advertised in ads or back of the box but purposely locked compared to adding stuff not on the disk or hiding it with a key. Same goes for certain missions, weapons, and clothing.

Square-Enix has already tested out doing something like this in the future with some WiiWare games but so far haven't done it in a big retail game.

A lot of news from Epic games concerning Gears of War 3 with the beta starting April 18 (Bulletstorm owners) or April 25 (pre-order owners) and finishes May 15.

Also announced was 3 versions of the game will be released as Standard, Limited, and Epic. If past collection sets are any indication, Limited should be around $70-$120 and Epic around $90-$150.

Finally, Epic also brags how their Easter Eggs in the game will be much harder to find taking "Months If Not Years" to find.

Kalyx triaD 03-04-2011 11:25 PM

lol Premium party members, get the fuck outta here. Imagine something like this on a Tactics game.

343 Stduios hints that a Halo Wars sequel might arrive in the future and could even be a Kinect-enabled game.

Last year Microsoft tried to shut down the leaderboards for the game due to lack of support compared to their other games but found out that the community is still strong enough for RTS games on the console.

Quote:

That said, there are no plans to take this game in either direction. "It was a huge success," 343's Frank O'Connor told CVG, citing Halo Wars' status as the top selling RTS on this generation of consoles (an admittedly small field.)

But "is the will to do a sequel there? Who knows. We could do something that works on Kinect, for example," O'Connor said. "There's no will against it but we're not working on it right now."
Halo Wars ended up becoming the number #1 selling console RTS game this generation and possibly all-time with roughly 2.11 million sales since release.

Nintendo reveals the Master Quest will be included in the Ocarina of Time 3DS game. Previously, the 2nd quest was only available in Japan or on the Zelda collection set disc but this makes the first time ever it will be on the same game cart in the US/Canada and Europe.

G 03-05-2011 08:09 PM

I'm gonna guess that 76% of people who bought Halo Wars had no idea it was a RTS

It's been out in Europe multiple times. It came with Wind Waker if you preordered and it was on the Zelda Collection disc, like they said. Both of which were available in Europe and I have both.

Emperor Smeat 03-06-2011 12:51 AM

Was the Master Quest originally included in the Ocarina of Time cart when it was released on the N64 in Europe?

I should have been a bit more clear meaning this will be the first time the MQ is together with the original like it was in Japan and not as an "extra" or pre-order bonus.

Drakul 03-06-2011 01:06 AM

No it wasn't on the cart with the original OoT. The only times it was on the same "media" as OoT was when it shared a disc with it for the WW preorder bonus disc and in the Zelda Collection.

Xero 03-06-2011 01:31 AM

It wasn't even on a cart in Japan. It was released as a expansion for the disk expansion thing they released only in Japan.

Emperor Smeat 03-06-2011 02:13 AM

Crap I forgot all about that N64 Disk Drive (N64DD) thingy they had for the system in Japan.

Was the Zelda Collection different in Europe? I have both games (one for pre-ordering Wind Waker and one for subscribing to Nintendo Power) and the Zelda Collection only has regular OoT, MM, LoZ and LoZ2. The pre-order bonus only has OoT and Master Quest.

Drakul 03-07-2011 12:47 AM

The WW bonus disc had OoT and OoT:MQ

The Zelda Collection had LoZ, LoZ2, OoT, OoT:MQ & MM.

Extreme Angle 03-07-2011 03:21 AM

My WW bonus disk had 2 classic Zelda games aswell...

Red Lynx announces that the "sequel" or successor to Trials HD will arrive on the Wii and be called Moto Heroz. The studio is being backed in both money and help from Nintendo so no chance at this game arriving on the PS3 or Xbox 360 (similar to Trials HD not on the Wii or PS3).

Some gameplay features announced are roughly 75 levels, side scrolling perspective for races, and the Wiimote used in the classic NES position with motion controls mainly for flipping crashed cars.

Red Lynx's goal for multiplayer is to do something barely seen or done on consoles and handhelds:
Quote:

The idea Red Lynx had been incubating is the game's unusual online system. The game's developers are creating about 50 levels that they can upload to players, a few at a time in some sort of rotation. Each is about 20KB in size, Ilvessuo told me, and will be transmitted simultaneously to all owners of the game as an immediate score-based challenge. Red Lynx will run the challenges for 12-24 hours, then pull the levels and upload different ones. The studio's goal is to give gamers a new reason to play the game each day. If Wii players like it, Red Lynx will create more levels and keep rotating them in and out.
The game is expected to arrive on WiiWare late Spring 2011 to early Summer 2011 (May-August/September 2011 range).
