The only thing that gets me interested there is Corbin and McAfee, because McAfee is great. The rest is just…meh. Brock and Roman have the best story in wrestling, but it needs a meatier undercard. Theory and Lashley running again is a mistake imo. I get they can’t get Cena wrestling, but why not Lashley & Ziggler against Theory & Roode? Do Theory and Ziggler in a MITB Ladder Match on Raw and have Roode turn on Ziggler and become an associate of Theory’s. I dunno. That match needs something.

Becky vs. Bianca should definitely be added. Bianca getting her retribution against Becky at SummerSlam in Nashville makes sense. Lately they’ve been doing 7 match cards, right? The other one I’d add is Miz vs. Logan Paul if they’ve been teasing that on Raw. I haven’t really been following.

They might go 8 for the main card. Question is, if they do a kickoff/pre-show match, what would make for a good one to serve as an appetizer to the biggest party of the summer?

I don’t think they’ve done a pre-show match in quite a while. But looking at what they’ve got going on, I’d suggest The Mysterios vs. Balor & Priest.

Random idea I had for when Orton comes back. RKBro reforms for awhile with people expecting Randy to turn on Matt like he always does his partners. Instead, Matt RKOs Orton out of nowhere and challenges Orton for exclusive rights to the RKO and Riddle goes over and takes the move.

This idea just came to me when I was reading some comments from Orton about how much damage the RKO has done to his back from the thousands of times hes done it. Now that it's finally come back to bite him with his current back injury, it only makes sense to transition him away from the move. I like the idea of Riddle taking the move from him (since he already uses it) instead of just having Orton quit using with no explanation.

It’s a good idea based on something, but I just don’t want to see RKBro end right now. They’re so freakin’ over as a team. I’d much rather see Riddle turn than Orton, but there’s still so much they can do in their own corner of the universe there.

Back bumps in general have probably taken their toll on Orton. I doubt he’s going to avoid taking slams and basic bumps because of this. If he can’t do that anymore, I imagine he’s transition away entirely. That being said, it’s pretty insane to see a top guy let another guy do his finish in even more spectacular ways than he does. He’s really going above and beyond to usher Riddle in.

No need to split them up though.

I’m a big fan of Cesaro, so I kind of want to order Death Before Dishonor to see him become ROH World Champion. You’ve also got FTR vs. The Briscoes. And unless things have completely deteriorated, it would make sense for MJF to show up too. But I’m just too suspicious of Tony Khan and AEW to REALLY give a shit. What does ROH really mean?

I like Jay Lethal, but I really hope Samoa Joe wins that match, even though him as TV Champion feels weird. He’s like the most iconic World Champion they’ve had.

So does anyone remember the long lost Bret Hart match against Tom Magee? Almost gained urban legend status. No one could find it anywhere. Then I guess a couple years ago WWE found about half the match and aired it on the network.

Tom Magee was supposed to be the heir to Hogans throne. There's a famous quote of Vince saying "that's my next Hulk Hogan".

He had this match with Bret where Bret made him look like a million bucks. This match was the holy grail for collectors.

Tom Magee was insanely athletic and strong as hell but had maybe the worst facial expressions of any wrestler ever. He never really advanced higher than WWF C Shows. He had a stop in Stampede and an infamous trips to Japan where he had terrible matches.

He had a pretty good match with Arn Anderson, as well. But that was because he was in the ring with Arn Anderson, who was bumping and selling like mad while this guy was looking like Kenny Alpha.

I think the most special thing about this match was that Bret Hart was so good, he even worked the promoter.

The Arn match I believe was in late 88, a couple years after the Bret match.

He wrestled Terry Gibbs on the C show loop quite a bit but never really improved. That match in Japan against Wajima was a complete joke. Never really "got it"

George Steele said in an interview that Magee would always be dressed nice, carrying around a notepad backstage instead of spending more time in the ring.

In terms of 18-49 demo (archaic) in a dying medium when you only count ORIGINAL programming. Dynamite doesn’t even get more viewers than Big Bang Theory reruns. I don’t think it even tops it specifically in the demo.

Yeah when you have to discount news programs, sports, reruns, broadcast networks and god knows what else to make a claim that Raw is #1 and Dynamite is #4...well, it just kills any credibility in that argument as far as I'm concerned. It's just as dumb as when people kept trying to claim AEW is a higher rated show than RAW/SD because they win 1 kEy DeMo and get slaughtered in total viewers and the rest of the demos.

I remember when I was like 10-15, all the guys watched rasslin. We'd talk about it all day at school after whatever show aired. Some of us were WWE guys, some WCW. We'd all sit around talking about both of them though. Now my son is that age...and he doesn't know a single person at his school, or any other activities he participates in, that watches wrestling. Not a one. He gets made fun of when people realize he watches it. This is to say that it ain't the same anymore. Wrestling is not in a good place. It may not be dead yet, but it gets closer every single day.

I hope this is just an angle. It would be nice to put Murdoch over in St. Louis, so hopefully they are just spreading the wealth and delaying Murdoch vs. Aldis.

Murdoch is so good. I didn’t appreciate him enough when he was in WWE. Real solid fucking talent. Not a bad choice for their World Champion. He’s missing something (credibility with indy nerds?), but I really like that it’s back on him.

The rumor is that Warner Bros Discovery want nothing to do with The Briscoes because of homophobic comments Jay made 10 years ago. If that is/was true, the idea of The Briscoes being involved with ROH going forward should it become featured on a WBD platform is unlikely. It’s possibly problematic even if ROH ends up elsewhere. You want to keep your lords and masters happy.

It’s possible that The Bucks were just jealous and didn’t want The Briscoes involved with AEW. There’s rumors they’re the ones behind Jay’s comments being brought to WBD in the first place.

I liked my theory better: Someone googled the Briscoes, found a recent promo where 80% of the content was the word "Fuck," and was like "Nope." But, it could also be the Bucks.

There’s a good chance that has something to do with it. TBS and TNT are still television — aesthetics play a big part. All the swearing and “authenticity” might have been a turn-off. But I do wonder why they’d Google The Briscoes in the first place.

So The Briscoes are apparently signed to ROH? It’s a good get for ROH, provided that the product doesn’t completely suck overall. I do not trust Tony Khan one bit, lol.

Briscoes vs. FTR and Claudio vs. Gresham should be top tier pro-wrestling. Should be. We’ll see.

The Righteous vs. Dalton Castle & The Boys has been added to DBD. I dunno. I’ve only see Bateman from The Righteous. He was…eh. Dalton Castle has a great entrance the first time you see it. But at least he’s an ROH guy that has been signed.

I’m *pretty* sure MJF is going to be at Death Before Dishonor. I think Tony will want to have great wrestling matches (maybe a few MOTY candidates) and at least one great promo. MJF joining the ROH roster could be that.

I was thinking about starting a thread discussing classic puroresu. Maybe what your favorite match is, or who your favorite/underrated wrestler is and why. I’ve been trying to watch a joshi match a night and extend that to watching something classic from somewhere to expand my cultural tastes.

I just watched Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Genichiro Tenryu from June 5, 1989. Absolutely brilliant how the match builds. I’ve loved what I’ve seen from Tenryu. He’s a name I’ve probably slept on because I’ve been more historically interested in the Four Pillars era of All Japan. So much I love about Tenryu. Even how he stands out by wearing the yellow trimming on his boots. It’s simple and not bombastic, but still makes him stand out.

Can everyone using a Powerbomb as a finish please take note from Tenryu? The way he has the move countered in his matches just makes you want to see it more. Of course his opponents avoid it like the plague. It just makes it the forbidden fruit of the match. The pop Tenryu gets when he hits one on Tsuruta in this match is huge. Lots of wrestlers have taken the idea of hitting multiple finishers in their “epic” matches. Not many have taken how important it is to build and that if you hit one of your finishers, you better get a heightened reaction for two or three.

The way Tsuruta and Tenryu make you want to see what they’re showing you. Brilliant. And when something works for a guy in the match, they try it again. It doesn’t feel repetitive so much as it feels like a guy exploiting the same weakness he perceives his opponent to have. I love it when a guy hits a move and if it doesn’t finish the match, his mentality is like “Well let’s see if you can take another one.” Too many guys get cute with arranging their matches to be these set pieces of counters to counters to counters that don’t come organically from what kayfabe strategy and moments the wrestlers find themselves in.

A hidden highlight of this sort of style, when I feel it is done right, is when the “flow” of the match kind of breaks because a guy is just clubbing the other guy because he hasn’t been beaten yet, so he’s got to come up with his next big move. It feels like their strategy has kind of been thrown out, and it all feels very organic. It’s all got that mentality of the guys are trying to win, and they’re selling just how tough the other guy is. And they will make mistakes and go the long way about doing things sometimes, which is a great in-built excuse for losing, if that’s the way the booking goes.

Absolutely sublime pro-wrestling.

I love the post-match between those guys too.
