I prefer his matches with Flair to Steamboat’s.

So Cody came back to have back to back to back ppv matches against Seth Rollins? Inspired booking. Have they wrestled on TV too?

Mr. Nerfect 06-01-2022 06:39 AM

D’Lo Brown…I still think about that guy. It’s a shame he got heat and they cooled him off A LOT by 2001. Wasn’t he talking about going to WCW and it got him heat or something?

I completely forgot they released him and then brought him back for a spell in 2008.

Bad News Gertner 06-01-2022 07:03 AM

He was on Brisco and Bradshaw's show. He said he never spoke to WCW but because he was perceived as a Vince Russo guy, they figured he'd jump to WCW like Jarrett did so his push died

Lol yeah I remember him coming back in 08. He beat Santino on Raw.

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-01-2022 07:27 AM

I've heard being a Russo guy hurt D'Lo, but I can't help but think the Droz accident provided further impetus to cool him off.

It's weird to think how lackluster the initial incarnation of Goldust was in the ring given how good Dustin is now and how great he was before then. I guess it was the character work that slowed him down.

Yeah they never really had anything for him after that and I don't think that's a coincidence. D'lo himself said that in an interview as well

Lo Down beat Kaientai is a tag match in Heat before the Rumble. The winner got to pick one person for the Rumble.

I don’t think it’s the act of putting the belts on him that’s being called out, it’s the perceived lack of anything after.

Personally I don’t mind it. It breaks the cycle of someone gets a shot, screwy finish, rematch at the next big show. Also means Roman isn’t burning through contenders. They’re clearing lining up Riddle for a programme (albeit a loss) that he should come out of looking stronger, and Orton, and McIntyre has already announced his shot.

They could be doing more with the undercard but HIAC has lined up to be a pretty solid card without a world title match. Seth/Cody blow off in the Cell is a worthy main event - and I like that there’s only one Cell match this time. The 6 person tag if quite unique for WWE. I’d question whether Ezekie/Owens is a “PPV worthy match” but it’s over with the crowd. Ali/Theory for the US Championship feels a bit flimsy but Ali is in front of his hometown, can’t see him getting the win but a chance to show what he can do. The womens triple threat should be a great match, not convinced they way they got to it did anybody any favours though. Corbin/Moss I can definitely take a pass on. Lashley/Omos III this time featuring MVP I can also do without.

All in all it’s got enough “peaks and troughs” to be a decent show. Then we get Roman at MITB + 2 ladder matches, Roman/Orton at SummerSlam, and Roman/McIntyre at CATC. He’ll be on the Saudi show November 5th, and for as much as I’d like Survivor Series to be seen as a big show again, I’d probably give him the night off there.

A lot of feedback I’ve seen has been that people are enjoying the shows more now that it’s focused on the stories (as good or as bad as they are). Having a big, fake secondary belt isn’t going to make the shows “better” for the marks that are complaining. It’s just silly internet talk.

They’ve got plans for Roman, as you’ve laid out. The other major people will be in other major programs. Why would they hit a phantom panic switch and just throw everything in the air for a few obsessive nerds on the internet’s bad ideas?

Mr. Nerfect 06-05-2022 12:14 AM

So WWE announced that Cody Rhodes has suffered an injury. He was pulled from a card but was still there and made the save to close the show. Dave Meltzer is reporting torn pec and that he might miss a year with a fully torn one. But Dave doesn’t have any WWE sources anymore. Probably him trying to dampen Cody, because I doubt they have Cody work with a torn pec.

Bryan Danielson has also reportedly suffered an injury that prevents him from being able to fly. This is from Sean Ross Sapp, who seems spotty a lot of the time, but does get some things right. Nothing has been confirmed about that. But an injury that prevents you from flying? I mean, unless he’s just worried about comfort, that sounds like a concussion, which isn’t good.

I’m not up-to-date on my concussion advice. Thanks for that. Word going around is that it is a concussion. It’s possible that Danielson just chose not to fly with it for his own comfort (not that it would make it worse or anything), or because he follows archaic advice on concussions/has a bit of voodoo associated with them.

Cody did in fact have a torn pectoral muscle and did in fact work the full god damn match like a champ. Once again Noid makes himself look like an idiot by commenting and making matter of fact statements before any concrete info makes itself available. It’s like clockwork.

Mr. Nerfect 06-06-2022 03:54 PM

There are a lot of blocked bitches in this section of the thread. A whole bunch of CM Punks. They think they’re droppin’ pipe-bombs, but really their diving into their own echo chamber and breaking their foot.

#1-norm-fan 06-06-2022 04:33 PM

Lol Been too long since Derpfect desperately tried to convince the world he’s got everyone who calls him out on his bullshit on ignore so that he can save a little face by just playing ignorant.

It’s not the WORST strategy when it comes to deflecting from the truth. Maybe the rest of the SPWW forum vets should give it a shot.

Damian Rey 2.0 06-06-2022 04:57 PM

Noid definitely reads the posts of blocked of users and he’s definitely going to ignore that Dave was right and that Cody did work the match with an obvious torn pectoral

XL 06-06-2022 05:21 PM

To be fair, Noid doesn’t say Dave is wrong all the time. He concedes that he’s spot on when he critiques AEW or reports anything that can be perceived as making AEW look bad. You know what they say though: “even a blind squirrel can get Noid to agree with it when it’s criticising AEW”.

Lol, how did they even get to me and my views on Dave? I was shitting on the AEW/Punk situation per xrod’s posts.

I used to defend Dave. It’s become so fucking apparent he has no WWE contacts and is trying to smear WWE and prop up AEW. Whether that’s just his prerogative or because he thinks it will sell more newsletters, I don’t know. But does anyone even try to deny that now?

Dave’s criticisms about AEW are more relevant than his praising of them or critiques of WWE because it goes against his best interests. Fox News reporting a Republican scandal is very different to them trying to expose a Democratic one.

Dave Meltzer last night called Cody vs Seth one of the most compelling matches in pro wrestling history AND called Corey Graves announcing job one of the greatest announcing jobs in the history of pro wrestling.

It’s POSSIBLE he’s big on hyperbole when it comes to current wrestling in general.

Honestly, he's reached fuckin Stephen A. Smith levels at this point, minus the showmanship (even still, I despise Stephen A.)

#1-norm-fan 06-06-2022 06:00 PM

I’ve been told I do a passable impression of a mix between Stephen A Smith and Shannon Sharpe when I’m drunk.

It’s basically just ranting about the Dallas Cowboys with an exaggerated sense of disgust in my voice while every once in a while throwing in a calm “Now, Skilp…”

I always put an “L” in there in my head but the sound that comes out is somehow the same.

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-06-2022 06:06 PM

I was gonna say the Skip/Shannon partnership is sadly the closest thing we have to Bobby and Gorilla, but let's get serious, that distinction belongs to Shaq and Barkley.

#1-norm-fan 06-06-2022 06:08 PM

Either Bobby or Gorilla would have to be Skip Bayless in that situation and either way I don’t like it.

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-06-2022 06:09 PM

Yeah, I prefer it being Shaq and Sir Charles by a long shot lol

Matt Cardonna, Pro Wrestling's Biggest Pussy?

Cardona you may know recently suffered a bicep tear forcing him to cancel upcoming appearances for the global brand Youtube brand NWA. Last night Cody Rhodes of AEW and WWE wrestled with a ripped off pec, and had a 5 star all time classic. Does this make Matt Cardonna and the NWA the biggest pussies in wrestling? With no balls what so ever just cut off penises shoved up inside them inverted into vaginas?

Bad News Gertner 06-06-2022 07:06 PM

Listened to Regal's podcast. Wasn't really digging it. Gonna give it a few more shots.

Torn bicep is still not as bad as quitting because of a foot ouchie, so no, Cardona and NWA are NOT the biggest pussies in wrestling.

I completely forgot they released him and then brought him back for a spell in 2008.

Lol yeah I remember him coming back in 08. He beat Santino on Raw.

1) It always seemed like D'Lo took the Droz thing pretty hard internally and kept it there, and for a good while it even changed how he looked in the ring. Not saying *bad*, but there was a "lack of confidence" look on par with Sean Waltman after he got hurt and toned down the flying after... except D'Lo at least didn't start stringing together the exact same match week in and week out like X-Pac would.

2) Didn't know about the Russo perception, but I was one of those people who thought he would jump to WCW and eventually back, since he seemed to need the fresh coat of paint/change in surroundings. Might've helped him (ringwise) get past his "reservations" sooner, and he always felt like one of those guys who would get an upper roster push upon a WWE return after getting something like the "Lance Storm hat trick" treatment in WCW. There were a few people who could have used jumping ship to potentially better their careers. From both companies. And that was still at a time where people weren't "punished" for leaving.

3) Lo Down had potiential much like New Age Outlaws... but they got thrown into d-show jobber duty.

I dunno, but he does absolutely suck.

Mr. Nerfect 06-07-2022 06:32 AM

John Cena is going to be on Raw later this month. June 27. Celebrating 20 years. I wonder if he’s going to set anything up or it’s just an appearance they could jam in?

It’s not the WORST strategy when it comes to deflecting from the truth. Maybe the rest of the SPWW forum vets should give it a shot.

it is a pretty bad strategy, especially when he makes it so obvious that he is reading the posts he says he ignores.

There's one from around the same-ish era where he hits this successfully...might have been the match against the two Japanese lads whose names escape me right now.

We need to do Steiners watch along sometime...that would be great

It's under Conrad's banner of shows. It was pretty boring. Regal's accent is so soft with not much inflection. I don't have much hope for it
