Better not. It gets way more confusing when you read the tie-ins, which I have.

Sixx 12-15-2015 08:18 PM

the tie-ins got some sorta medieval universe, too. there's also a XIX century Hank Pym and some mini worlds where everyone's a Wolverine, everyone's a Hulk and shit like that, it just makes your brain hurt

Marvel is reportedly seeking Kurt Russell to play Star-Lord's father in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Nice

Wishbone 12-15-2015 11:22 PM

I can get behind that casting

Blonde Moment 12-16-2015 12:24 PM

Well they just killed Namor ir was glorious. i will admit I am going to miss him but I think this will not be the last we see of him.

Tom Holland on the set of Doctor Strange. Wonder if he's gonna be in it, at least for a cameo.

Marvel's balls shriveled up inside themselves well over a decade ago. He'll be back before 2017.

Fignuts 12-16-2015 01:53 PM

Guess I'll read secret wars qnd give this new marvel stuff a shot. Couldn't be worse than new 52, right?

I haven't read cyclops' death yet, but making him a villain was the most interesting he's been since well, forever. Or it could have been, if they would have handled it properly. That jail cell meeting between cyke and cap was cool, and hinted that cyclops would become a really great "grey area" type villain. If they would have gone full che guevarra mutant rebel leader with him, it could of worked great, but instead he was written the same as always, and all that potential was squandered. Going off what you said, it sounds like they took him way too far to the other extreme for his death, which is just as bad.

Whatever. He'll be back too. No balls.

after cataclysm the ultimate universe sucked major balls (not that it hasn't at times before that). new ultimates were a bunch of nobodies like cloak and dagger and peter parkers female clone, fantastic four became ff or something and was terrible, peter parker came back from the dead somehow (heroes staying dead was one of the best thing about ultimate marvel) and it was given zero explanation, it was like "dude, we saw you die, how are you alive?" and he's like "dunno, I just woke up"

my right shift is broken and the left one is a pain to use, fuck capitalizing

Oh shit! A major character died!!!

SPOILER: show
They always come back.

Lock Jaw 12-16-2015 02:36 PM

They still never brought back Jean Grey, did they? (Just transported her young self into the present or something)

Sixx 12-16-2015 02:40 PM

are you kidding? she's been brought back more times than any other character

but right, recently the only jean grey around was the young jean grey brought from the past

Has she though?

I've never gotten this joke. Maybe I'm missing a few of her resurrections, but I don't think she's come back that often.

So she died after the dark phoenix saga, and then came back later in x-factor. Then she died again in X-factor. The phoenix force tried to ressurect her in endsong, but she stayed dead.

That's it. Unless you wanna be that guy and count Here Comes Tomorrow, but even then, thats only two resurrections. There have been tons of characters who have died and come back a hell of a lot more than Jean Grey.

Lock Jaw 12-16-2015 07:27 PM

I wonder which comic book character has the record for most deaths/resurrections...... (Resurrection Man disqualified)

Hmm, I actually haven't read the old issues where she died, but I remember seeing a list. Can't find it now, only one I found includes deahts like dying but having her mind transferred to Emma Frost. The one I remember didn't have this. And if I remember right, it said she really, really died 10+ times.

Fignuts 12-16-2015 08:13 PM

I'm looking at wikipedia and the ones I listed are the only ones I see. I don't count stuff like the mind transfer because she didn't actually die, and shit like that happens all the time in comics. If you count that stuff, you could easily pick a random character and make a long "death" list.

Sixx 12-16-2015 08:16 PM

I don't count the mind transfer either, that's why I don't like this list.

Anyway, fetching a Jean Grey from the past is basically bringing her back in a way, same with the current Wolverine, only he's old as fuck now while Jean is younger.

Reavant 12-16-2015 11:26 PM

Wasnt one of her resurrections actually madelyn pryor?

Fignuts 12-16-2015 11:27 PM

No Madelyn was a different character that just looked like Jean.

Reavant 12-16-2015 11:29 PM

Wasnt it her clone?

Fignuts 12-16-2015 11:59 PM

Yeah, but it wasn't supposed to be when they created her. They needed a way to fix how much of an asshole they had written cyclops to be (i.e. abandoning madelyn and their son to hang out with recently returned jean) so they retconned her into a mr sinister clone.

She was originally meant to be a way to write cyclops out of the book. He was going to retire from the x-men and live happily ever after with madelyne.

Fignuts 12-17-2015 12:05 AM

Actually read through xfactor a while back, and for like 25 issues he doesn't contact madelyne at all. Whole time I'm just yelling in my head "CALL YOUR FUCKING WIFE YOU DICKHEAD". He didn't even have a reason beyond typical emo cyclops angst bullshit nonsense.

Was infuriating.

Rammsteinmad 12-17-2015 10:25 AM

Bringing people back from the past totally counts as bringing a character back. It's just another shitty loophole.

Wishbone 12-17-2015 06:11 PM

So I just got caught up on Amazing Spider-Man and Invincible Iron Man. Gotta say they're both really good thus far. Also digging New Avengers and Ms. Marvel. Read the first issue of Guardians of the Galaxy's new run and really enjoyed it too. Felt like the new additions to the team really fit well. Marvel's batting pretty good so far for me. Only thing I read this past week that I didn't like was The Uncanny Inhumans. Fuck that confusing nonsense.

Sixx 12-17-2015 07:34 PM

and there being like 5 different avengers teams ain't confusing?

i already forgot who's in new avengers, who's in uncanny, who's in the ultimates, etc.

iron man is good, spiderman going global is really weird and i don't like it

agreed on guardians, ben grimm and kitty pryde are pretty cool additions

Wishbone 12-18-2015 12:33 AM

Eh, it's a little confusing at times, yeah. But I'm only following two of them at the moment so the others are kinda "out of sight out of mind". New Avengers seemed like the most interesting to me so I'm focusing most of my effort on following them. Squirrel Girl, Hulkling, and Wiccan are all favorites of mine so it's nice to see them doing something interesting. I've read the first issue of the Avenger team with Captain American and Deadpool in it too. Was interesting, but I'm not sold yet. Might read another issue or two just to see if it's gonna get good before I make a decision about whether or not to follow it. Love Captain Marvel, but I'm really not interested in Ultimates.

Spider-Man going global does jar me a little, but his book still has that Spidey charm and humor I love so I'm able to look past that for the most part. Not sure I like the Spider-Mobile and Spider-Plane though... Also I somehow wasn't aware that Aunt May was married/worked for Parker industries now (despite having read most of Amazing Spider-Man straight through since Doc Octopus got kicked out of Pete's body) so that caught me way off guard.

Sixx 12-18-2015 04:07 AM

aunt may being married isn't a surprise to me (she's married to jonah's father btw) as it happenned way before secret wars, they started dating even before doc ock's mind was transferred into parker's body.

and i dunno about spidey charm, he seems to be a total dick now and yeah, fuck his car and his plane

Wishbone 12-19-2015 06:11 PM

So Jonah and Peter are step brothers now... Eeeew.

Fignuts 12-27-2015 11:09 PM

Read the first 3 issues of Secret Wars, and Sixx is right. I fucking hate it. It's just a hodge podge of too much shit going on with too many characters. Like Crisis on Infinite Earths times ten. Doesn't help that this story has been building in other titles for over a year.

On a brighter note, I read Frank Miller's Daredevil for the first time, and hot shit it deserves all the praise it gets. So damn good. Check it out, if you have marvel unlimited.

Lock Jaw 12-28-2015 08:52 AM

Got the Frank Miller Daredevil Omnibus out of the library a bit ago and read it for the first time. There was indeed some great stuff within it.

I think it looks stupid. 0/10. Marvel obviously doesn't know what they're doing. He looks ridiculous with all of those belts. And don't even get me STARTED on that weak facial hair.

Sixx 01-04-2016 07:51 PM

one thing I can agree with is the facial hair. cumberbatch apparently can't grow it

Miotch 01-04-2016 08:06 PM

For the record I was mocking the common over reactions to these reveals, weak ass facial hair aside.

Lock Jaw 01-11-2016 10:22 PM

Quote:

According to "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo, they currently have 67 characters on tap for the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" film.

"We have so many characters we’re dealing with. We’re breaking ground on Avengers: Infinity War. We have a board with 67 characters on it," they revealed at Wizard World New Orleans.

Wishbone 01-11-2016 10:36 PM

I imagine more than 3/4 of that 67 will just be in the background of some gigantic fight scene. And that's if they all even make the final cut. Still this is gonna be pretty cool. Probably the biggest event in movie history as far as number of iconic characters on-screen goes.

Lock Jaw 01-11-2016 10:40 PM

Are there even 67 Marvel Characters...... especially if you eliminate the X-Men/X-Characters.......

Wishbone 01-11-2016 11:46 PM

Yeah, there are hundreds of characters. Most are nobodies that only the most hardcore of Marvel fanboys would recognize, but there are more than enough of them. Hell, if they end up including any Inhumans they can probably bump that number up even higher.

Lock Jaw 01-12-2016 12:23 AM

Actually, I guess, if you added all the characters from all the existing movie/tv shows and the supporting characters, you would probably already get close...

Kalyx triaD 01-12-2016 04:02 PM

Yeah the only way to hit that number is counting all the majors, the supporting cast of each major's own movie series, all the TV/Netflix majors and supporting cast, and potentially whoever will be introduced in Infinity War itself.

Like LotR or X-Men DofP it's certain some characters will get the shaft and only a few will have big screen time. Still, this is sounding bigger than a comic book movie thing. We've never seen a multimedia shared universe converge like this.

Wishbone 01-12-2016 08:12 PM

I'm legit interested to see what the ramifications of this will be for the MCU. I mean if they're gonna hit that number I could see them adding characters that haven't even been seen in the movies yet. They've already sorta eluded to the fact that there may have been heroes before Iron Man in the MCU, and that other heroes may have been popping up while the Avengers were running around so we could possibly see that there's some serious history in the MCU.

Also like Kalyx said this is a massive deal. We've never seen something like this in cinema history. The Avengers was a huge deal that was completely unprecedented at the time, but this has the potential to blow it out of the water.

McLegend 01-13-2016 06:46 PM

Kelsey Grammer as Beast was a good call... I'm just saying.

ClockShot 01-21-2016 08:26 PM

Lock Jaw 02-08-2016 01:34 PM

DC a mess ever since the reboot.... though Batman stuff seemed like it was still "safe" (by which I mean the reboot barely effected it at all).... though I haven't read any Batman stuff in a long time either because I just don't feel the whole universe anymore... And not having that "larger shared universe" to get into just takes me out of it....

Reavant 02-08-2016 02:22 PM

Not all of Marvel is a mess. The new Xmen books are fantastic.

Rammsteinmad 02-08-2016 02:58 PM

I'm so out-of-the-loop with Marvel right now. This is probably years old already, but is Spider-Man still living in that "Brand New Day" reality or whatever? Like... did things ever get retconned and he's married with MJ again, Aunt May died from her gunshot wound/survived and the world knows who he is?

Wikipedia use to be pretty good to at least get some basic stuff like that, but sometimes it's pretty vague or messy and I have no idea what I'm reading.

Lock Jaw 02-08-2016 03:01 PM

Far as I know, Spider-Man never went back to that old continuity. Not married to MJ. Aunt May still around, never shot. More people may know who he is now, but not the world at large.

Think I read that in the comics, Peter Parker is now a wealthy billionaire mogul with a large tech company or something.....

Rammsteinmad 02-08-2016 03:24 PM

Damn.

I kinda hated Brand New Day to begin with. I came to accept the new continuity but always figured "whatever, they'll change it back in a year or two anyway".

Shit. Seems pretty legit then.

Lock Jaw 02-08-2016 03:28 PM

Maybe because I didn't read too much of the "married Peter Parker" days, but I quite liked the "Brand New Day" stuff.... Of course, I haven't read it in ages.... I think the last story I read was something about Kraven the Hunter and his family.... some big storyline....

Never even got to the whole Dr. Octopus is Spider-Man saga....

Rammsteinmad 02-08-2016 03:35 PM

I kinda followed until Spider Island or whatever that was called. Still got a bit of catching up to do, but most of the stuff between Secret Invasion and Spider Island has some gaps in it, so I'm pretty confused about a lot of stuff.

Fignuts 02-08-2016 07:19 PM

Yeah, I was one of the few people who liked Brand New Day. I missed out on Spider-man's heyday. By the time I started reading it he already had a super model wife and a great job. Not exactly as relatable as earlier issues.

Lock Jaw 02-08-2016 08:19 PM

Same.... I liked that he was "down to Earth" again.... poor/single/struggling to find balance in his life.... etc....

Also enjoyed the return of thought bubbles and a focus on a supporting cast.... felt "different" from other modern comics....

yeah, iron man is one of the few titles that aren't painful to read.

also, 2 x-men books, one with old man logan, young jean grey, etc. and another with "bad" x-men lead by magneto

deadpool is weird (weirder than usual) but it gets a pass.

contest of champions is probably the dumbest now, no idea what it's about.

"Game of Thrones" star Finn Jones will play the titular martial arts master in "Iron Fist," according to a new report from Entertainment Weekly.

drave 02-25-2016 06:07 PM

someone say titties?

Emperor Smeat 02-25-2016 07:12 PM

Like a lot of comic movie-based actor announcements, already outrage online due to the actor being white and people assuming or wanting someone else instead.

Part of it is due more to the recent "whitewashing" Oscars outrage and Marvel not doing themselves any favors by interviewing a bunch of Asian-American actors making it seem like the character was going to played by an Asian actor.

Also doesn't help that there is a really old stereotype when it comes to white people playing martial arts characters.

Fignuts 02-25-2016 07:19 PM

Iron Fist is a blond white dude. So they cast a blond white dude.

The fuck is the outrage about?

Fucking overtly PC bitches. If they made a Bill Clinton biopic, tjey'd probably complain if he wasn't played by a spanish-african transexual.

Lock Jaw 02-25-2016 07:23 PM

Yeah.... if he were an Asian dude in the comics and they cast a white dude that would be one thing, but now people are getting angry because a white dude was cast to play a white dude?

Emperor Smeat 02-25-2016 07:38 PM

Think the history of the character's backstory is also playing a role in the outrage. Its part of a really old stereotype of how a white guy gets his martial arts abilities when writers don't want the character to actually be Asian.

McLegend 02-25-2016 07:52 PM

The outrage is dumb.

Fignuts 02-25-2016 08:15 PM

That's Iron Fist's whole thing. He's looked down on by all the martial artists because he's rich and white, yet he becomes so great he earns their respect and whatever.

X-Men spin-off film Gambit got delayed indefinitely and currently dropped out of Marvel's lineup of comic films.

Quote:

As reported by CBR, Gambit was originally scheduled to be released on October 6 this year. However, the loss of original director Rupert Wyatt last September meant a delay in the start of production. In January, it was reported that the film would start shooting in March, with Edge of Tomorrow's Doug Liman now directing. Fox' sci-fi feature Alien: Covenant will move into Gambit's original slot.
