The WWE with an interesting flex. Roman Reigns has a new “Needle Mover” t-shirt. I think he’s the only full-time guy who can lay a claim to that.
|
I am absolutely mesmerized by that video of Koko reversing the power slam there. Like. Wow. He basically somehow kept the momentum of the powerslam going and turned it into a powerslam of his own. Getting that done before they hit the ground is absolutely insane. Probably one of the best moves I think I've ever seen.
Kinda wanna see someone else try to pull that off nowadays. See how clean they can get it. |
What a maneuver.
Still crazy how close Koko comes to hitting the ground on the initial power slam before he just smoothly flips him over into the reversal for the pin attempt. After watching it closer, it still looks like he reverses into a powerslam of his own, but instead of having his arm between the legs of his opponent he puts it in place to land directly into a pin attempt with his leg held up. Pretty damn slick way to alter a powerslam in general. Would be a cool move for someone to use I think, powerslam direct into a pin like that. |
Sorry I am faded and rambling and still going on about this move.
Trying to figure out how someone would pull that off as a move of it's own. Could you reliably go for a powerslam via the standard upper arm placement but hooking someone behind the knee instead of the crotch hold without it being dangerous af? I'm thinking a botch might end up either hurting the person doing the moves elbow or the person on the receiving end getting a hurt knee, most likely the latter. Dunno. Just looks so cool in my head. Wanna see Orton do it with one of those snap powerslams that he does better than anyone. His version has always looked so much more intense than anyone elses to me. It looks stiff af even though it isn't. RAMBLING. |

Someone uploaded Terry Funk's Wrestlefest 1997 show. Haven't seen it before

and i just repped you for saying funk is the greatest of all time earlier. nice.
|
i was such a foley mark back in the day that i became a funk mark. one of the few old school guys whose stuff i actively sought out. him and bruiser brody. i remember bonding with destor over brody when i first showed up here.
|
might put on funk/flair i quit after rampage since i read y'all talking about it in that seanny asks gertner thread.
|
Forgot about that thread
Love Funk. Greatest ever. |
it felt like a real precursor to the watch along
|
The moment after Flair-Steamboat 3 where Funk attacks Flair is legendary. The way he just awkwardly butts into the interview, kisses Flair’s ass and tries to weasel a title match out of him before pretending he was just kidding was great. He played the subtle weird, unhinged psychopath so perfectly.

Used to think he invented the fist bump....
|
There’s a real charisma in Sid. I used to think the guy would be a top candidate for someone you would give a hypothetical talent transplant to. Ring skills to match the look, charisma, presence, etc. But what more did you want from the guy?
Would love to see Sid vs. Brock in some alternate timeline. |
JR and Vince such an interesting duo on commentary.
|
Loved Sid. He is such a weird case because you can argue that he was both an over and under achiever.
He had one of the best looks ever, and should have been one of the biggest stars ever but is not really remembered with much reverence within the industry. He is also a multi time World Champion and Wrestlemania Main Eventer despite being a guy that viewed himself as a softball player who wrestled for money. Both are valid arguments, which just adds to the mystique of the master and ruler of the world! Also random FYI, Sid's entrance music has to be a top 10 all time instrumental only theme. Jim Johnston at his finest. |
Just going around and seeing where some people I remember are now currently employed. Had no clue referee Brian Hebner was in Impact Wrestling. He was a good referee. If you’re picking your crew for a promotion, I don’t know how you don’t have Mike Chiota and Brian Hebner as your two most forward referees. Just keep Earl, Jr. away from the merchandise.

what a tune

I loved Sid when I was a kid. When I had a shit ton of those bone crunching rubber limbed figures from the mid and late 90s, I would consistently book him strong in my toy fed lol. Thought he was cool as fuck. The way he cut promos, his look, his powerbombs. Sid was the man.

I fucking hated Heath Slater in the first season of NXT, they were trying to do a white meat babyface thing with a guy who seemed easy to dislike. Dude had "annoying heel" written all over him. Then trying to see him try to look menacing in Nexus was a joke.
Then they finally turned him into the heel he should've been all along and he was outstanding. |
Yeah when Slater left "The Corre" he became amazing.

Sid is one of those guys who would be over in any time period he wrestled in. One of my favorites growing up to watch, just like Vader, as a kid you believed he was dangerous.

My buddy Co hosted his podcast. Sid got rid of him like 8 months ago because he had these absurd list of demands.
Sid takes these gigs but because his wife is rich if he decides he doesn't want to do it anymore he just no shows or cancels. |
Johnny the Bull strong as fuck.

Ok, fantastic fucking mistake. Nowhere near a typo, just who the fuck knows what I had in mind. Not correcting it.
|
I remember when Sid had his undefeated millennium man record going on. Then Goldberg speared him on an episode of Nitro leading to their PPV match (Halloween Havoc maybe?). Man, I was such a mark back then, but Sid was so good in his role as a face or a heel back then.
|
You still are!

Sid really highlights the difference between wrestling fans and smarks. For ages, it was cool to rag on Sid. He sucks, how did he get so many opportunities, etc. But counterpoint to that are people who just enjoyed fucking Sid.
|
I remember being kinda intrigued by the idea of Wade Barrett vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania 27. The Nexus thing happened, got cooled off a bit, then Barrett helped Kane defeat Taker in Buried Alive. Thought it was setting up him getting the spot and they just snubbed him for Triple H chasing Shawn Michaels. Turns out the plan was always Triple H vs. Taker, but Nexus were supposed to be his lackeys in a heel turn. But Trips didn’t want to turn heel. Plus he probably figured not being able to beat Taker with 8 guys flanking makes him look super-weak.
|
Sid was awesome but he was also really bad too. You can be both.

Give me Johnny the Bull deep cuts.
|
Yeah we heard.
|
Holy shit, Johnny the Bull is only 44 years old. I don’t know why that surprises me lol.
I don’t remember this, but apparently he worked a match as part of The Alliance in 2001. He also won the Hardcore Title on the Raw brand before turning face after being a Heat mainstay prior to being part of The FBI. I don’t really remember him doing any of that beforehand. I guess it’s vaguely popping up now, but if you had pressed me I’d have guessed he was cut when the WWF purchased WCW, then they rehired him in 2003 when they wanted bodies for SmackDown. |
This reminds me: Remember when Drew McIntyre showed up on the Raw side of things even before Vince McMahon declared him “The Chosen One?” I’m pretty sure he was a babyface and teamed with The Highlanders on Heat.
|
Wait, before that he teamed with Dave Taylor on SmackDown.
|
I remember when DH Smith was first a face on Raw too lol.
|
Apparently Shawn Stasiak only retired in 2010. I don’t know how reliable that is or what sort of wrestling he was doing.
Reading up on him, the guy’s career was bonkers. He once submitted a tape to the WWF dressed up as a Halloween character named “Phobia” advising kids how to trick or treat safely. It was based off the idea of a nest of spiders living under his bed. Apparently when he beat Jerry Lawler for the services of Stacy Carter, he introduced Stacy to his “mother,” Mae Young. There’s a kayfabe relationship I didn’t know about. |
I miss Stasiak. I miss all the Natural Born Thrillers. So good. So horrible.
|
Every few weeks I'm reminded of Planet Stasiak. What a gimmick.
|
Fucking TREMENDOUS gimmick

People on youtube still think this was legit. They can't see the obvious edit at 2:16 (both hands on top of the roof then both hands underneath the chassis) nor hear the jack they used to jack it up to an angle falling away at the same time. |

Is there anyone left who can strike anywhere near that good?
|
Nope
|
Scotty Too Hotty vs. Joey Janela booked for GCW's New Years Day show lmao
|
Scotty looks great. In way better shape than Janela
|
Janela looking much better these days. Very good job.
|
I remember seeing somebody throw a real good punch lately. Can’t remember who. Might of been from back in the day though?
|
As chance would have it, it was probably Scotty 2 Hotty.
