@Gertner - your tape trading may become insanely more valuable..... as WWE DVDs will no longer be a thing in 2022.

Quote:

It’s with a very heavy heart we must pass on the news to our readers that WWE DVDs and Blu-rays will no longer be offered in the United States beginning 2022.
WWE Home Video has had a physical media presence with DVDs since 1999, dating back further with VHS since 1985 (taking into account Coliseum Video). Over the years WWF/E would release their content on physical media via several formats; VHS, Betamax, Laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray and even UMD.
The update sadly means 2021 will have been the last year for WWE Home Video in the home market, which includes Canada too since those releases were closely aligned with the US.
As for reasoning behind the move, while specifics haven’t been stated to us, the why is probably the obvious and in the end will boil down to revenue, coupled with the company putting less emphasis on DVD and Blu-ray in recent years and more of a focus on new content for the WWE Network and Peacock, whereby WWE content is streamed online.
The final releases

The first WWE DVDs ever released were WrestleMania 15 and one on Stone Cold Steve Austin.
As it stands now, Survivor Series 2021 will be the final US WWE DVD release, which will be available on December 28th. Drew McIntyre’s DVD is also still to come this month, which will mark the last Superstar-themed DVD release in the US, scheduled for December 14th.
Australia

Unfortunately, no more US offerings means the same for fans in Australia. Like Canada, the Australian WWE DVDs closely followed the US; WWE in the US produced assets and carried out authoring for both the domestic and Australian DVDs, which we hear will not be taken on by the Australian licensee.
Madman.com.au will be releasing the remaining PPV DVDs of 2021 though — Extreme Rules in December, Crown Jewel in February and Survivor Series, Australia’s final DVD, in March.
In the UK, however…

There is a glimmer of hope in this otherwise not-so-festive December update — the UK appears to be carrying on alone with new WWE DVD titles in 2022, until March at least.
As we’ve reported, Fremantle have new PPV DVDs scheduled beyond Survivor Series, including Day 1 and Royal Rumble. That hasn’t changed. It’s unclear what happens after those, but potentially due to better performance of WWE DVDs in the UK and Europe, we may be seeing a situation whereby WWE Home Video actually continues on in that region (at least this is the hope).

Destor 12-04-2021 10:24 AM

one thing they should consider is limited runs. sell them as collectors items by taking preorders for the large shows and only producing the quantity thats was prepaid and you could do that at a premium over the current price.

#1-norm-fan 12-04-2021 10:36 AM

I think they should consider VHS.

Recorded on EP.

The way wrestling is meant to be viewed, Goddammit.

Aside from the Kevin Owens one, there hasn't been a single original DVD release in the almost 8 years since the WWE Network launched. It's either just a DVD of a doc that already aired on the Network, or just some random compilation of somebody's matches.

I wish they would just add more old docs to the Network.

I read some of the talking points and skimmed through the episode. Truth be told, I don't think it's good for the wrestling podcast industry. Quite frankly it is undoing years of progress and pushing the industry back a few decades.

Fandango has joined the NWA. Teaming with JTG it seems. Not a bad-sounding tag team but hopefully it’s just a stepping stone on his climb to being the face of the company he should have been a decade ago.

Which Georgia? What restrictions?

Bad News Gertner 12-05-2021 06:53 PM

PWInsider█reports that the reason Saturday night’s NWA Hard Times 2 PPV had such a small crowd was because they found out on November 30th that only 90 fans would be allowed at the show since GBS Studios in Atlanta, GA takes government funding and thus was obligated to follow more restrictive standards

Sepholio 12-05-2021 06:58 PM

thats ridiculous. There are no restrictions on public gatherings here lol to get screwed over because the building has government funding is hilarious.

Still seems really strange though. I was in a government funded building in the same town a few weeks ago and there were WAAAAAAAY more than 90 people in there.

Edit: Also strange because our state lifted all COVID orders and restrictions at the state level like 4 or 5 months ago at least.

Damian Rey 2.0 12-05-2021 08:37 PM

That crowd is fucking sad. I’ve seen bigger crowds at the local indy fed here in San Diego and it’s nothing but local guys for most of their shows.

I wish for the NWA and MLW to reach new heights. 5k for MLW is a good number. It’s a shame about the restrictions for the NWA. Here’s hoping Johnny Curtis & JTG take them to mainstream success. Charismatic cats in that group.

Might need to just go by his real name when he starts capturing every major indy title on the planet though.

For all Paul Heyman’s genius and his foresight to mix hardcore and traditional rasslin’ sometimes it seemed like he’d fall into the trap of “long match = good match”.

There’s no reason for those two to go an hour in the mid 90s.

It happened in late 1994/early1995 I believe. It was during Shane's crusade to make ECW more traditional.

And without the APA we likely wouldn’t have gotten Ron Simmons’ career rebirth.

And without Ron Simmons’ career rebirth, we wouldn’t have gotten “DAMN!”

Back during the expansion in 1984, Vince kept fucking with Verne and Verne of course got paranoid. Larry Zbyszko walked into Verne's office and saw Blackjack Lanza crawling around on his hands and knees checking for bugs as Verne was convinced his office was being bugged by Vince. Lol the mole was Blackjack Lanza, and that's why Lanza was around for so long as an agent.

Avery Good (formerly Dasher Hatfield of CHIKARA) has announced that he'll wrestle 10 more matches and then leave the business.

I think he'd ultimately LIKE to keep going but he's had a rough go of it the last couple of years. CHIKARA's closure required a lot of their talent to completely re-brand themselves even as no indies were running, not easy to do since many of the characters from that company were viewed as too cartoony to get traction being booked elsewhere. He was scheduled for a PC tryout that got cancelled right at the start of the pandemic and he never got invited back. A few other indies he's frequented in the last year have gone on hiatus. Nagging injuries, and a family at home.

He even said he views it as quitting more than retiring.

Super stoked. Love Nash. I've also decided that the reason this is even happening is because someone at GCW saw the Nashvember thread and realized that Kevin has a massive following and is more over than anyone in the business today and decided to strike while the iron is hot and book the greatest ever for one more epic run.

lol top rope assisted flip flop

drave 12-09-2021 01:12 PM

How long till he tears his quad. Will it be when he steps over the top rope?

And people say that Nash never gave back to the business. He is gracing this independent shit-show with his presence to give them a fighting shot.

Am... am *I* your buddy?

Seriously, she wouldn't have to say jack shit. Just do the smile, cutesy wave, then flash her abs for about 10 seconds. I'd consider that money well spent.

Dude. How am I just hearing about this now.

That song has to be Jimmy Hart’s handiwork.

Jordan 12-10-2021 12:40 PM

I really enjoyed the song.

#1-norm-fan 12-10-2021 12:52 PM

It’s no “Girls in Cars”.

ron the dial 12-10-2021 12:53 PM

i'm still humming along to "wimpbusters" which was a great original hit by the king.

There are times in life when I think Alex Wright might be my favorite wrestler of all-time.

Sixx 12-10-2021 03:51 PM

Back when they showed some wrestling on Polish TV, they would give wrestlers their own names just judging by what they saw. Alex Wright was Disco Kid.
