EA announces Battlefield Bad Company is being made into a tv series which will be handled by Happy Madison Productions as a comedy series for FOX.

According to early details about the show, it is being envision as a modern version of the classic A-Team tv show with the members of Bad Company leaving the military to work for a private company. Each episode is also being planned to last about an hour. The writer for Alias and Felicity, John Eisendrath, has joined as the lead writer for the show.

Quote:

The show will be loosely based on the campaign, following the members of B Company as they move from military careers into the private sector. Shenanigans ensue when they find out their previous CO wants to have them killed.
No tentative dates regarding a potential debut were not revealed although the show is currently in the very early stage of production.

New rules regarding the content usage policy for Microsoft properties could potentially ban Machinima and others bin the future from making videos with their game content in them.

The new policy affects all games published by Microsoft regardless of their status as a first or third party game.

The decision also specifically targets anyone on Yotube who tries to profit from videos containing their footage but will not target advertisers of those videos as long as the ad revenues do not go to the people who created the videos.

Quote:

According to the specifics, directors on YouTube, Vimeo, and other such sites will be illegally using Microsoft Studios’ games if they make any sort of profit of the footage from MS-branded titles:

You may post your Item to a page or website that has advertising, but only if you do not earn any money from that advertising. For example, if you post your video on Youtube or Vimeo and there happens to be an advertisement next to it, then as long as you don’t get paid for that advertisement, the fact that there is an advertisement on the page doesn’t break these Rules. But enrolling in the Youtube partner program (or other similar programs), where you are entering into an agreement to get paid, is not allowed. On a similar note, if you create and distribute a free app, then you can’t earn any money from advertising in that app.
While Halo 4 could potentially be the first affected by the new rules, 343 Studios thinks it won't be an issue and have no issue with Halo-related videos being made. They do emphasis Microsoft is mostly targeting those who have no deals with them under the new rules.

Sony releases a few images showing off the newly redesigned PlayStation Store which will arrive later this month.

The redesign uses a carousel-type scrolling system which moves from left to right with the goal making information a lot more accessible on the front page of the store.

A new feature called the "Hero" theme will showcase a different video game character on each page to help advertise games from each character's specific series.

The search bar has also been redesigned which will auto-correct spelling mistakes and include multiple filters to make searching easier than with the current Store setup. The store will also do a better job at separating PSP and Vita games from PS3 games as a way to help speed up on finding games for a particular system.

Release dates for the redesigned will occur on October 17 for Europe and October 23 for North America.

While Sony is currently involved in a lawsuit as a plaintiff in regards to the Kevin Butler situation, they might become a defendant in another as their recently bought Gaikai company has been hit with a patent infringement lawsuit.

According to a lawsuit brought to the courts in Delaware, T5 Labs is suing Gaikai over claims the company has “committed and continues to commit acts of infringement" involving a patent owned by T5 Labs. The patent in question deals with cloud services which T5 Labs says they own and Gaikai used without permission.

As part of their claims, T5 Labs is requesting monetary compensation to cover all past damages and future activity from Gaikai and to a smaller degree from Sony themselves.

The same company previously sued OnLive over a similar patent in 2011 but did not reach the courts due to OnLive's recent financial problems.

The developer of Metro: Last Light, 4A Games, announces they have scrapped the game's multiplayer portion in order to concentrate more on developing and improving the quality of the single player campaign.

The decision was due to the studio unwilling to sacrifice the quality of the single player campaign nor delay the game in order to rush or shoe-in online multiplayer at the last moment possible. The reaction and feedback from the E3 demo played a big role in their decision according to a recent community posting by the studio.

Quote:

Throughout the development of [Metro: Last Light], a small, dedicated team had been working on a number of multiplayer prototypes. After E3, we decided to fold this multiplayer team back into the main group and focus 100% of the studio’s resources on the single player campaign. As a result, Metro: Last Light will not ship with a multiplayer component.

Your response to our E3 demo made it very clear that although there was a lot of interest and intrigue around Metro’s multiplayer, the single player campaign is what the fanbase cares about the most.
While the game will not launch with an online multiplayer mode, the studio did say they might add it in later as DLC but only after they've completed all the work and plans for the game's single player campaign.

Many of you have been involved in the 2012 Xbox LIVE Update Public Beta and have been busy getting an early look at the latest Xbox LIVE features. Today we’re starting to roll out the official release of the update to Xbox LIVE subscribers around the world. To ensure a stable release, this will be a gradual deployment across subscribers and regions over the course of the next week. Our initial deployment will reach approximately three million consoles worldwide, with additional users being updated over the course of a couple weeks. Don’t panic if you don’t see an immediate update, just keep checking back in.

In this update, you will see the following features.

-Refreshed Xbox 360 Dashboard. We’ve updated the UI with a few things, including an updated layout with more tiles, a combined TV & Movies channel and, in the US, a Sports destination.
-Internet Explorer for Xbox. With Internet Explorer on Xbox, you can easily find and view internet content on the biggest screen in the house, including HTML5 videos.
-Recommendations and Ratings. Recommendations will allow you to discover new favorites, generated based on a number of variables including the content you previously viewed, what your friends are consuming and what is most relevant and popular with our Xbox community. You can now rate content yourself and also see Rotten Tomatoes ratings.
-Pinning. Pinning lets you personalize the dashboard by saving your favorite movies, TV shows, games, music, videos and websites right to the home screen. It’s as easy as opening an app or a favorite movie and clicking “pin.”
-Xbox Video. Formerly called Zune Video Marketplace, Xbox Video offers hundreds of thousands of TV shows and movies for buying or renting in instant HD streaming.
-Recent. Previously called Quick Play, the Recent view gives you a list of movies, games, apps or other types of content that you most recently accessed on the console.
-Enhanced Search. The last Xbox LIVE update brought Bing voice search to Xbox so you could use voice to search for movies, TV shows, actors, directors and artists. This year we added genre search to the list, so now you can search for action, comedy, romance, drama or sci-fi. Bing voice search now includes results for video across the Web, including YouTube.
-International Expansion of Voice Search. We’ve expanded our Kinect voice search capabilities to 9 new countries – Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Ireland.

Rumors of Prey 2 being cancelled were finally confirmed to be false today by developer Human Head although the potential for a sequel still is pretty bleak overall.

While the project isn't cancelled, it isn't being worked on either due to its current limbo status in development.

Nathan Cheever, designer for the game, made the announcement on Twitter last week which was only noticed recently.

Quote:

"Prey 1 = Indians in Space. Prey 2 = Cowboys in Space," he Tweeted. "btw, P2 hasn’t been officially canceled, only in limbo."
The reason for the limbo status is also due to Bethesda moving away from the project in order to focus on other games to be developed after announcing earlier in the year the game would miss the 2012 release window due to serious quality issues.

To ensure people with subscriptions still get the highest priority, free players will be capped at level 50 and have to purchase weekly passes in order to bypass caps on Flashpoints, Warzones, and Space Missions.

Free players also are being restricted on inventory space, cargo space, and longer quick-travel cool down timers.

The game will also be having a new revenue system called the Cartel Coin system which is used to buy in-game items and other stuff with subscribers having more stuff available to them for free. Free players have to convert real money into the Coin system in order to buy most things.

Valve announces they are taking a more aggressive role against rage quitters and quitters in general in regards to the paid Mann vs Machine mode for Team Fortress 2.

The decision was due to constant complaints from players who have been affected from quitters and people trying to exploit leaderboards in general.

The announcement itself was done in a tongue-and-check manner from the "President and CEO of Mann Co."

Quote:

President and CEO of Mann CO Saxton Hale has decided enough is enough and has chosen to punish anyone who quits a round of Mann vs. Machine before the end.

In a very angry letter to Team Fortress 2 players he writes:

There are some words that, if I have to use them to describe a man, mean that man is dead to me. Also to everybody else. Because I will kill that man. One of those words is “hatless”. The other is “coward”.

I gave you mercs one simple thing to do: Defend Mann Co. from an unstoppable robot horde. Now Bidwell’s telling me some of you are abandoning the fight in the middle of attacks. Firstly: What am I even paying you in found money that falls out of robots for?

Secondly — actually, put this first, it’s more important — I am coming for you.

But thirdly, Bidwell’s drummed up some penalties for any coward he catches running away from the frontlines. If any of you cowards out there find these penalties too harsh, don’t worry about it, because see Point #1 (I am coming for you). Whatever penalties you get will seem like a day at the Being Afraid store (or wherever it is cowards like to shop) when I get my big angry hands on your beady little heads.
Anyone who gets caught as a quitter will end up being kicked out of the normal matchmaking pool and instead be forced into a lower priority queue with the added penalty of longer waiting times to be put in a new game.

Sony announces what might be the start of several waves of job cuts have occurred recently with 2000 laid off and the majority from their Playstation division.

While Sony is calling the layoffs as part of an "early retirement" plan, the real reason is due to the desperate need to stop the massive hemorrhaging of their cash reserves. The previous quarter alone saw net loses of roughly $310 million and roughly 2x more than the same period last year.

The overall job cuts are expected to be in the 10,000 range with their Playstation and electronic divisions to be affected the most. The goal for Sony is to try to save $378 million as part of next year's fiscal report and to lessen the impact of their restructuring program which will cost them $975 million.

Quote:

The company says that it is making the changes to “revitalize and grow” its electronics business and it says that it is expecting to save $378 million (30 billion yen) annually from next year. The basis of the changes was laid back in April when the firm announced that it would reduce its headcount by 10,000 — including 3,000-4,000 in Japan — as it implements a $945 million (75 billion yen) restructuring program.

The PlayStation-maker is haemorrhaging cash and its most recent financial results, published in August, saw income before tax plummet 59 percent to hit $118.5 million (9.4 billion yen). Net losses for the three-month period grew to $310 million (24.6 billion yen), up from $195.3 million (15.5 billion yen) a year previous.
In terms of short-term impact towards the Playstation division, Sony themselves had hinted before this holiday season wouldn't see the same level of marketing support for the Vita and PS3 as Sony normally does this time of year. The Vita can't get a price cut while their plan is to just release a bunch of games and hope they sell well without massive marketing.

Bioware reveals some new details and concept art in regards to the upcoming Dragon Age III: Inquisition game.

Character customization was announced to play a bigger role in the game with the possibility to customize followers in a similar level of detail.

In terms of world and level size, a single level in Dragon Age III was revealed to be about as large as all the levels combined from Dragon Age 2. The ability to own castles in the levels was also revealed to be a possibility for the game.

They are working on how to carry over saves and choices from previous games for Dragon Age although they mentioned background-related stuff will not be playable in this game. In terms of new players, they teased working on something similar to the Mass Effect series where choices can be quickly generated without having to play the previous games.

No actual release date besides TBA 2013 was revealed but the studio did release some concept art for the game.

Epic Games announces a deal between them and Square Enix was recently signed which will allow Square Enix long-term access to both the Unreal 3 and Unreal 4 engine.

The deal is a multi-title deal which covers both engines and will allow all the studios of Square Enix to fall under the single license given by Epic Games. Also revealed under the terms, Epic Games Japan branch will provide exclusive local support for developing games through the use of their Epic Games Japan branch.

The Supreme Court is expected to make a decision this Fall regarding a legal case involving the First Sale Doctrine with the implications being against the consumer if manufactures win.

While the case itself doesn't specifically involve video games, they would fall under the provision to be removed from the protection the Doctrine provides to consumers.

The current case of Kirtsaeng v. John Wiley & Sons involves the side of John Wiley & Sons requesting portions of the Doctrine to be overturned or amended to remove any product manufactured "overseas" from its protection.

The publisher also wants those products to then fall under the copyright protections which provides more power to manufactures in determining who can or can't sell/resell their products regardless of location.

As of now the Court is split on the legality of the product's origin and location of sale mattering which will end up playing a large role in their actual decision later on.

Should the Court side with the publisher, video game consoles would automatically be exempt from the Doctrine while games in general could if the exemption is expanded again in the future.

It's a free-video game project based on the Community video game. They attempted to create a video game in 16-byte design based on the game the study group played in "Digital Estate Planning." It's not fully done yet, but the site also has awesome midi themes from the game and fan created ones based on some of the songs from Community (including Getting rid of Britta which was awesome.) Somebody even made a Mario remix called Getting Rid of Bowser which was even better.

Based on recent sales data, the future for the Darksiders series doesn't look good as the sale for Darksiders 2 have basically flat-lined since its release in mid-August.

According to Micheal Patcher, the game itself is in danger of not being able to break even since its not close to reaching the two million sales milestone needed. The biggest problem appears to be the game has no "legs" or is struggling badly with sales since its launch. Darksiders II launch managed to reach over a million copies sold from all platforms combined.

Although the good news is the Wii U version hasn't been released yet which should help sales but would probably need to sell as much as the other versions combined for THQ to be happy with Darksiders II sales.

THQ and Virgil Games had hinted the future of the series and a third game would depend on Darksiders II selling four to five million copies although most places believed THQ would be happy if it managed a more reachable mark of between two to three million copies sold.

EA is lashing out a bit at game reviewers for the poor reception and scores given to Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

The company stated the game does not deserve to be getting the low scores going as far as saying their internal "mock" reviews rated the game a lot higher leading up to its launch.

Quote:

"On Medal of Honor, we're disappointed with the critical reception," EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau told investors. "Our internal testing and mock reviews indicated that the game is better than the actual score that we have right now, and we believe that it is.
While the company still believes the game will sell a lot of copies with the public, very early sales data is showing the opposite being true. According to the data and predictions, Warfighter is on track to become the lowest selling game in the series with even EA already saying the launch sold "well below" their expectations. Analyst Michael Pachter thinks if the sales stay low enough, EA might end up killing off the Medal of Honor series in favor of a possible yearly schedule for the Batlefield series.

In terms of aggregate review scores, Warfihgter is also averaging the lowest scores in the entire history of the Medal of Honor series at an average score of 54. EA had hoped the game would have drastically improved from the previous Medal of Honor game which was a reboot of the series but only averaged a score of 76.

According to recent rumors, the current batch of PS4 dev kits have been sent to developers.

The dev kits which have the codename of Orbis are rumored to be the second out of the four batches Sony will be providing with the final batch arriving by the Summer of 2013.

From the rumored details, the PS4 would be using the same blu-ray discs as the PS3 along with all the inputs being the same. AMD is supplying the chip for the PS4 which is from their A10 APU series. Also it appears the PS4 might launch with a 256 GB harddrive as the default size.

The UI or menu system is also rumored to be completely redesigned and allows for better multi-tasking than what the PS3 or even Xbox 360 currently allows.

Quote:

According to VG247, Orbis is based on AMD’s A10 APU series, an APU (Accelerated Processor Unit) is a combined CPU and GPU. The goal of the system is to create a machine that can easily run 1o80p games in 3D with no issues so that it is powerful enough for “today’s and tomorrow’s market.”

The dev kits are being shipped in two versions one with 8GB of RAM and one with 16GB. A source added that the machine will use a Blu-ray drive like the PlayStation 3 and will come with a 256GB hard drive, although it’s unknown if it will be a standard or solid state one. All inputs of the new console will be exactly the same as the PlayStation 3.

The UI of the console is getting a revamp however, Orbis allows players to press the PS button on their controller mid-game and travel anywhere in the system, an example given was pausing a game, purchasing and installing some DLC, and then switching back to the game seamlessly.

In an interview with the Seattle Times, the director of the Halo series at 343 Studios, Frank O’Connor, reveals they've been working on Halo 5 for a while.

O’Connor revealed most of the current work for the game has been prototype stuff in regards to new technology the next Xbox might contain and to the storyline itself.

Quote:

When asked during an interview, “You’re presumably working on the next version — “Halo 5” or whatever it’s going to be called will be the anchor tenant on the next version of the Xbox, right?” O’Connor offered the reply, “We’ve done as much prototyping and storytelling and the future arc of the universe as we have on technology. So we’re definitely working on the future but in some ways it’s technologically agnostic at this point.”
He also stated the series has no signs of slowing down in terms of ideas for the storyline by stating their "universe" is as rich as the ones in the Star Wars or Harry Potter series.

In regards to concerns about the series being milked, he didn't believe that is an issue since the public won't be concerned as long as the games remain good to play. Also said they are making sure future games don't create a convoluted mess with the overall storyline.

EA announces they are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Battlefield series by giving away the digital version of Battlefield 1942 as a free download for PC users.

Quote:

“Since the beginning, the reception to the Battlefield series has been incredible thanks to our amazing fans,” DICE vice president and general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson said on the official Battlefield blog. “Every day, we strive to provide our community with great games and new ways to play as evident with Battlefield 3 Premium. We wanted to thank our fans who have supported us throughout the years with a chance to go back and play the game that started it all.”
Although there are several catches to the gift from EA such as the game can only be played and downloaded from their Origin service, none of the DLC packs for the game are included or free, and the free version is not compatible with physical/disc-based or non-Origin versions of the game for multiplayer.

Forza 4 for sure. Feels a lot tighter as a game.

If you already had 4 since launch, I'd recommend Horizons as its great fun, but as a choice it would be pretty clear for me.

Fignuts 11-07-2012 02:38 AM

Coolio.

Will go with Forza 4 then.

Considered the new Need For Speed as well, but as far as arcade racers go, the opinions are pretty unanimous that Burnout Paradise is the better game, and I've still got lots to finish in that one.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-07-2012 02:46 AM

The thing I'm reading about Most Wanted is worse single player but better multiplayer than Paradise.

Either way, I've spotted a good deal on the PC version, so I may pick it up when I get paid.

Fignuts 11-07-2012 10:54 AM

That seals it for me then, because I only play singleplayer.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-07-2012 10:58 AM

I dabble in both. To be honest, I've played Paradise to death, so some slightly inferior Burnout single-player content will do me nicely at the $40 mark.

Hey Figgy, this was just TWEETED AT MY FACE if this price makes Horizon more appealing than 4.

Microsoft rumored to be working on a 7-inch gaming tablet which would be called "Microsoft Surface" and could be the reason why security was increased at their Redmond and Silicon Valley branches.

The tablet is rumored to be using an ARM processor and runs on a modified but heavily stripped version of Windows. The main focus for tablet will be on gaming with only a few non-gaming functions being useable on the device.

Microsoft is also producing the tablets at a separate location than their normal processing plants in order to avoid serious leaks to the media. Parts of the tablet are being made at their Silicon Valley offices which also could explain why security was increased only at these branches.

Quote:

Multiple sources have told The Verge that the company is developing a tablet that will include a custom ARM processor and high-bandwidth RAM for use specifically with gaming. According to the source, most of the specifications are already decided on, but may be altered to adopt an unannounced Intel SoC.

This tablet won’t run a full version of Windows, but will run a custom made Windows kernel which may support messaging and other widely used tablet features, however the main focus is on gaming. The sources also claim that Microsoft has developed a secret hardware production process for the tablet which is separate from partners who usually manufacture Xbox consoles.

The guy commenting on TVC on Screwattack is a total spazz.

Kalyx triaD 11-09-2012 12:16 AM

You'd think he'd already have the game if he cares that much, making the matter moot. Go figure.

Kane Knight 11-09-2012 12:21 AM

You'd think 3 years would be enough, but hey.

Kinda wish I had it, but lacking a Wii, it seems kind of pointless to own the disc.

Silicon Knights lawsuit against Epic Games in regards to the Unreal 3 Engine took another turn as a judge has ordered all games made using the engine from them to be destroyed.

According to the court order, five games were specifically listed due to claims the source code for these games contained plagiarized Unreal 3 code. Silicon Knights have been ordered to destroy all unsold copies and also cover the costs needed for the destruction.

The games listed for destruction were:
* Too Human
* X-Men: Destiny
* The Sandman
* The Box/Ritualist
* Siren in the Maelstrom

In regards to X-Men: Destiny, they would be destroying all copies that were not taken care of from an earlier dump by Activision who was upset at the abysmal sales of the game.

So far the total results from Silicon Knights' lawsuit against Epic Games was their initial lawsuit being tossed, a counter-suit which they lost at the cost of $4.5 million, the return of all Unreal 3 engine assets, a drastic studio reduction, and now more money needed to be spent to cover the recent court decision.

Kill it off by all means. But a yearly BF release? No thanks. That'd kill that off too.

All they need to do is a simple following, that would benefit customer and them for money. Perhaps use MoH as a replacement for the "Bad Company" franchise of Battlefield, but either way:

2011: Battlefield 3
2011/12/13: DLC for Battlefield 3
2013: Bad Company 3 / MoH: <insert name>
2014: BF2143
2015: DLC for Battlefield 2143
2016: Battlefield 4

and so on.

To me another logical thing would be for BF to be purely Multiplayer and the MoH to be singleplayer games with no Multiplayer. DICE controls BF, and whoever in EA's range controls MoH / Bad Company.

It's seems logical, but I guess in the world of games... it's just an "idea" and certainly one that I would take up with my team in a management / staff meeting on the directions for the next 5 years.
