There’s no confusion at all. WWE cut salaries because AEW is not perceived as a threat. Internet marks have to make it a story about incompetence and malevolence. Sometimes, get this — the reporters are the incompetent ones.

Was it the incompetence of reporters that made Malakai Black debut earlier than expected?

drave 09-10-2021 08:03 AM

Pffft, of course it was. Aleister Black was never going to do anything on the roster. He was fat to be trimmed.

Some internet nerds posted the story of his "contractual oversight" but WWE knew what they were doing. Jesus fuck Noidator.

Emperor Smeat 09-10-2021 06:35 PM

According to Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, the upcoming new era of NXT will be something similar to a lite version of RAW based on those he's spoken to within WWE.

In terms of NXT talent being aware of the actual plans for NXT's revamp as of this week, many were still being kept in the dark.

Only real bright point was many NXT talent who have seen the newly redesigned Capital Wrestling Center praised the improvements made but also mentioned its more like a scaled down version of WWE's main roster sets in terms of appearance.

Also just like with everyone else, NXT talent were unaware of Triple H's health situation until the news was made public.

DAMN iNATOR 09-10-2021 10:11 PM

I'm not optimistic it will happen but they need to go back to 1 hour. 2 hours of the current quality stuff they put out, I can't justify watching.

Jordan 09-10-2021 11:03 PM

Also reported is that NXT will be going to 3 hours weekly starting in 2022.

According to this week's Observer Newsletter, another reason for FOX recently being upset with WWE over CM Punk signing with AEW was due to WWE turning down FOX's offer to help cover the costs of any new deal with Punk.

WWE claimed Punk was asking for too much money while FOX said that wouldn't be an issue since they'd give WWE some more money to help secure the deal. After rejecting FOX's help, WWE then said there were other reasons why they didn't want him which led to FOX being upset in the end.

Mr. Nerfect 09-11-2021 08:27 PM

CM Punk wouldn’t have made a difference to the WWE’s bottom-line. WWE knows that and FOX knows that. This is a made up “WWE bad” story designed to smear one side while making the others out to be angels. Stop posting fake news without thinking about it critically. Fucking hell, yanks are stupid.

Noid adding some xenophobia to the story of his rapid mental descent. Nice.

Lock Jaw 09-11-2021 09:44 PM

What I get from that story is that WWE was CM Punk's #1 choice, but they didn't meet his money demands so he went to his backup choice.

Vince turning down money? That's a new one.

He wasn’t turning down money for him.

Even if fox did foot some of the bill, I can’t see Punk back in WWE. Nothing about what drove him away has changed and you could argue it’s worse.

Think I'm gonna watch SummerSlam 96. I've never seen it before. There's quite a few SummerSlam's that I haven't seen.

I've seen the Boiler room brawl and the Main Event. The undercard looks not bad. We will see.

Lock Jaw 09-12-2021 11:20 PM

I credit that Boiler Room Brawl with really hooking me on rassling.... watched as a kid off and but not serious...

But then I saw that match and Mankind, and Paul Bearer turning on Undertaker and I was just like "wow, who is this crazy masked dude and he even got Paul Bearer to turn against Undertaker?!"

From then on I was watching wrestling seriously until a couple years back when I stopped....

RVD doing that really put over the MITB gimmick. Sure he could have snuck up and won the title, but instead we got this "oh shit RVD is calling his shot" story that was fucking fun.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this ends up being some sort of bait-and-switch type thing by WWE.

Knowing WWE's habits, there are 3 different ways this could likely go and all of them suck:
1) He cashes in but it doesn't count because Lashley pummels him before the match actually starts
2) Someone else attacks him on behalf of Lashley like the time he put up a bounty for McIntyre
3) He wins but its via DQ meaning they run the match back again but at Extreme Rules

Big E really should be going after the Universal title and dethroning Reigns since that would be a bigger star making rub for him but nobody's beating Reigns for his belt until at least next year's Mania.

Damian Rey 2.0 09-13-2021 04:57 PM

There was a story with Lashley had they decided to have Big E call his shot after winning mitb. Avenge Kofi, reunite with his brothers on Raw and bring the belt back to the new day. Easy. Having him randomly cash in with zero hype is just dumb. It doesn’t create any momentum or anticipation.

Damian Rey 2.0 09-13-2021 04:59 PM

He wouldn’t even have to win at Summer Slam. He could’ve just lost, have the story run that he’s not quite ready and gets sent back to SD before going on a tear and winning the Rumble where he chooses Lashley and finally defeats him.

There was a documentary in 2000 called "Inside Pro Wrestling" that was about UPW's training school. One of the major people featured was a young John Cena. Ended up being a first look at the next big star.

I feel like this was the equivalent to that. A piece of a documentary about John Cena, that had a first look at several future WWE guys, including Leakee (whatever happened to him?) But it had a major feature of someone else... Kind of an appropriate thing to post tonight.

Being fair, they legit did that twice, and it bit them in the ass both times. One was, as you mentioned, RVD. Then RVD got busted as champ.

The other was Ken Kennedy. And that fell apart because of him being linked to that doctor during the drug scandal. He was one of the more expendable talent, so he went from being introduced as Vince's illigitimate son AND calling his MITB shot to being pretty well swept under the carpet in short order no matter how over he was at the time.

If they start to try to book a long term, pre-announced cash in straight, who knows what kind of shennanigans will ensue. Best case, the talent suffers an injury. Worst case, it ends up being a Velveteen Dream situation.

I believe Kennedy got injured and lost the briefcase to Edge. The illegitimate son thing was later on. He also got injured again, came back and in his first match pissed off Cena and Orton, and was fired.

I dont care what anybody says, at the start of that show Brad was the most over brother. That little turd Randy stole the spotlight!

Rammsteinmad 09-14-2021 06:27 AM

Surely it was Mark! He was the "cute" young one that everyone felt sorry for.

Typical wrestling story, 4 different accounts from 4 people. :wtf:

People I think switch brands in the draft

To SD:
Drew
Orton
Riddle
Priest
Alexa Bliss
Asuka
Omos
Charlotte
Lashley

To RAW:
Becky
Bayley
Sasha
Nakamura
Seth Rollins
Finn Balor
Baron Corbin
Dolph Ziggler
Liv Morgan
Sami Zayn

slik 09-14-2021 01:39 PM

I know The Rock is long-rumored for WM and it'd make sense with Roman beating everyone (Cena, soon Brock) but if Dwayne's schedule changes

Roman vs Drew
Seth vs Big E
Brock vs Lashley
Edge vs Balor
Bianca vs Charlotte
Omos winning Andre Battle Royal

sounds about right imo

Bad News Gertner 09-14-2021 01:42 PM

They should have Rikishi come back and take the title off Roman, and then hand the title to the Rock.

He did it for the Rock again.

I'd pop for this.

Sepholio 09-14-2021 02:19 PM

Then have The Rock give the title to Foley because he did it for the Sock.

slik 09-14-2021 06:26 PM

Football really did a number on RAW, 1.67 million but Big E's cash in was the most watched moment of the night at 1.84 million

What are the odds they ignore the segment rating and blame the whole night on Big E since it was announced ahead of time he was cashing in?

Then Aldo gives it to Chris Masters cuz he did it for the master’s lock

...then Chris Masters gives it to Raven because he did it for The Flock.

XL 09-15-2021 10:02 AM

Who passes it within The Flock to Saturn who did it for the Mop.

Presumably before Jake had the theme.

Always wondered, wtf were the splits in the back of hogans shirts all about? He cut them in himself and i don't think i've ever seen them on any other shirts but his, but it's not as if they made the shirt easier to rip, once the collar is away all you need is a slight cut and it tears easily.

fundiddle 09-15-2021 11:57 AM

i assumed it was either for extra ventilation, or hulkster really thought louvers looked cool

Even for shirts he wore to the ring to tear off? When i first seen them i thought it was something body builders did for whatever reason. He even did it in the nwo when they were doing the poncho shirt thing with the sides cut off (which they copied from Mike Tyson).

Maybe he is a fan of louvre doors. :-\ :wtf:

He was ripping his shirt off in the AWA. That was Verne Gagne's idea for him to have the ripped lines in the back of shirt like he "exploding" out of the shirt and then he would rip it off like the Incredible Hulk which was a popular tv show at the time
Seen this answer on reddit, makes sense.

It got picked up by Road Dogg who handed it to Sopp.

The Lambert grabbed it before Jericho asked him who’s on top

drave 09-16-2021 08:54 AM

CM punk put Lambert to sleep, laid another "pipe bomb", followed by a mic drop.
