Future is bright though. Crawford in the minors, Nola and Velasquez already up, high pick this year. Philly is gonna be fine long-term.

Evil Vito 05-18-2016 10:06 PM

I expect the Phillies to trail off eventually but yeah, their future is bright. Ditto for Atlanta. Oh and the Marlins are pretty decent too and should get better next year.

The NL East is going to be a fucking loaded division soon, which is why I wanted the Mets to go balls out in this next year or two when they have their whole stable of cost-controlled pitching before some of the rebuilding teams are back to contention.

Evil Vito 05-18-2016 10:10 PM

Speaking of the Mets, their lineup continues to be a fucking joke and they're 100% reliant on home runs in a big ballpark. That is the only way they know how to score. It's a fucking joke that none of these guys know how to manufacture runs.

ClockShot 05-19-2016 06:20 AM

Yankees avoid the sweep.

In other news, Hal Steinbrenner blames the players for their woes. Not Joe Girardi.

Regardless, he's gone along with Cashman if things don't turn around.

Nicky Fives 05-19-2016 07:08 PM

99% of the time, its the players fault anyways and the coach just gets the brunt of it (see Atlanta's Gonzalez)....not much sense firing a manager for a sub-par record when they dump big money contracts and only sign AAA plugs....

Evil Vito 05-19-2016 08:18 PM

And Matt Harvey departs with 2 outs in the 3rd inning, having given up 9 runs.

Seriously, send this fucking bum to AAA until he sorts his shit out, or make up an injury to DL him or something. They gain absolutely nothing by running him out there every 5 days looking like this.

Evil Vito 05-20-2016 09:44 AM

MLB changing the official strike zone as early as next season due to how umps have been calling the lower part of the zone.

Also a new rule on intentional walks could happen as early as next season and one meant to save pitches and cut back game time a little bit.

And the umpires screwed The Halo's out of any chance of coming back in the 9th with a pair of terrible calls, especially on Yunel Escobar, resulting in him getting tossed....Wieters' glove touched the dirt when he caught the ball, that's how low it was....

Droford 05-22-2016 04:27 AM

Ump was shotty the whole game only way to explain how Shoemaker got 12 ks in 7.1 innings

Frank Drebin 05-22-2016 05:24 AM

How did Hawk Harrelson get ahold of your two accounts?

Frank Drebin 05-22-2016 05:27 AM

Also, for those who haven't heard it, see if you can find the clip of Hawk being so concerned for Todd Frazier after he hit his mouth diving into the seats for a foul ball that he literally left the broadcast booth to go check on him. Like it was life threatening. Like he didn't have a job to do at the time. When are they going to just tell him to stay home?

I have found it odd the amount of Cubs fans have started to dig in on Hawk over the past couple years. He's just a damn announcer who the hell cares.

Frank Drebin 05-22-2016 03:20 PM

If I want to watch a Sox game, I want good play by play and analysis of the game. I don't want to hear a soundboard of catchphrases, silence, an aimless story about "how I played with Yaz" and blaming the umpire's strike zone everytime the Sox are down by 1.

Frank Drebin 05-22-2016 03:29 PM

A play by play TV commentator left the booth in the middle of the inning to do....what?? See an injured player? What a pro.

Evil Vito 05-22-2016 04:19 PM

Hawk Harrelson is terrible and anybody who likes him should feel terrible.

How long was he out for since maybe the real reason was him being hungry and snuck off to eat a hot dog or two on the way to and from the booth. Checking up on the injured player was just his alibi so nobody would ever find out.

Ruien 05-22-2016 09:15 PM

WOOOO someone besides Sale won.

Frank Drebin 05-22-2016 10:35 PM

This game sums up how to beat the Cubs if it wasn't already evident in the NLCS last year and as recently as against the Brewers last week.

Take away their hitting advantage is easy. They like to work the count. The starter piles up pitches and before you know it, you're into middle relief in the 6th inning at the beginning of a series. That may work in the regular season, but not in the playoffs. If you have a starter who is confident in his stuff, and he pounds the strike zone, the Cubs are in trouble.

Look at this game so far tonight. Mad Bum throws 28 pitches in the 1st inning and loads the bases with 2 outs. Cubs don't come through, but that won't always be the case. You have to give yourself the opportunity before you can take it. The rest of the way? 6.2+ only 87 pitches. 0 runs and no real opportunities. Yes, its Madison Bumgarner. But who do you think they face in the playoffs? You can do that during a 162 game season when you face a teams 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th best starters, but doing that against a series of front line starters.....guys getting Cy Young votes? Good luck.

Cubs are going to have the best record in Baseball, but the Giants and Mets would beat them in October with the way things stand now.

The Cubs problem? I'm trying to wrap my head around it because I can't believe this could be true: they have too many good hitters.

Evil Vito 05-22-2016 10:52 PM

It also marks two nights in a row that the Cubs got Superwin'd

VITO! Got tickets to see the 51's play tonight. Any future Mets I should keep an eye on?

Evil Vito 05-23-2016 09:12 AM

Dilson Herrera who is their 2B of the future and saw some time in Queens the last two seasons.

Brandon Nimmo who is a lefty hitting outfielder. I'm actually not yet convinced he'll be an everyday option in the majors but he's still young/promising.

Also TJ Rivera/Ty Kelly are two journeyman minor leaguers who are tearing the cover off the ball this season attempting to force a call up to the Mets bench. I heard Kelly may actually be getting called up as early as today depending on if Duda lands on the DL.

ClockShot 05-23-2016 11:04 AM

Roger that.

In our local baseball league that we cover, one of our commentators is the owner of the team and we can't get rid of him even though he is terrible. He will be drinking beer throughout the thing and you will occasionally hear the cracking open of a can very clearly through the mics. He will then also randomly leave headset to go buy some food, which he will then loudly eat on air. Then he'll get bored with baseball and start talking about the food he is eating, or start discussing football or something.

Probably the worst commentator I've ever worked with.

Harrelson served as a Chicago White Sox announcer from 1982 to 1985 and briefly left broadcasting during the 1986 season to become the White Sox's General Manager. During his one season as GM, Harrelson fired field manager Tony La Russa (who was soon hired by the Oakland Athletics) and assistant general manager Dave Dombrowski (who became baseball's youngest general manager with the Montreal Expos just two years later).

Something's going on in San Diego. Trading off some players.

Mets acquire James Loney from San Diego for cash.

White Sox are in talks of possibly getting James Shields. But, nothing set in stone yet.

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-29-2016 09:52 AM

FUcking Dickey vs Price today. God dammit. I know Price isn't lighting the world on fire, but he always owns the Jays, and Dickey is Mr. 50/50.

Ruien 05-29-2016 06:38 PM

WOOOO WSox blow another game.

ClockShot 05-29-2016 08:37 PM

1 hit was all the Yankees needed today.

Damian Rey 2.0 05-29-2016 09:10 PM

I wonder what the ChiSox would be willing to give up for Shields if the Padres paid down his contract. They have some intriguing options, and Tim Anderson is apparently not considered untouchable.

I also wonder if the deal is done or not depends on if Shields will opt out.

Frank Drebin 05-30-2016 01:50 AM

They'll give you Clayton Richard and you will like it.

The WSOX aren't big on amateur scouting, so alot of their guys wind up not panning out. Chris Sale not withstanding, anyone else on that roster a drafted and home grown talent? While that's not entirely necessary to have a good team, a team like the white Sox needs to be better at that than they are since they aren't in the same league financially as teams like the cubs, red sox, yanks or either LA teams.

Basically, you don't want any of that garbage.

Ruien 05-30-2016 12:15 PM

Isn't Abreau home grown? Danks was fine until this year. But ya, at least we had a miracle season that we can cling onto for another 10 years.

Frank Drebin 05-30-2016 04:34 PM

Abreu is from Cuba.

Nicky Fives 05-30-2016 06:56 PM

ClockShot 05-30-2016 07:47 PM

Yankees send Luis Severino down to AAA to get his shit together.

Probably for the best. Next will be Pineda if he can't figure it out. But the best move at this point is to think about a starting pitcher between now and the trade deadline.

Damian Rey 2.0 05-30-2016 11:11 PM

I wonder if Cashman gets desperate and tries to shop the prospects they do have to bolster the rotation.

Emperor Smeat 05-30-2016 11:53 PM

Do they have enough quality prospects to do that?

Even if they fix the rotation, they'd still have serious hitting problems. Last in the division for scoring and 2nd to last in the AL.

ClockShot 05-31-2016 07:34 AM

No prospects. Got rid of like 10 during the offseason with the Castro & Chapman trades. Bags of money would work at this point.

All the Yankees can do at this point is tread water and stay the course until something changes.

Nicky Fives 05-31-2016 11:32 AM

I wouldn't deal Severino unless I was absolutely wowed at what I was getting back....

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-31-2016 12:44 PM

Still can't believe how stellar the Jays starting staff has been, trying to wait for the rest of the team to catch up.

Hope they use this new found momentum and go on a nice run in June.

Damian Rey 2.0 05-31-2016 04:33 PM

Yankees still have Aaron Judge and the injured Greg Bird. Judge can attract some teams looking to move talent and though Bird is hurt I'm sure they can find a taker. They also have a ss prospect who's name escapes me.

ClockShot 05-31-2016 05:17 PM

Blue Jays about to acquire Jason Grilli from the Braves for a minor leaguer. Sean Ratcliffe's name is being tossed around right now.

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-01-2016 11:21 AM

Damian Rey 2.0 06-01-2016 02:04 PM

Marlon Bird likely suspended 162 games due to a failed PEDC test. That could mean he's finished for his career as a team would have to sign him to finish out the back end of the suspension assuming he's on a 1year deal.

Damian Rey 2.0 06-03-2016 12:17 AM

Damn it, Droford. Stop stealing my thunder.

In all seriousness I'm glad this is happening to the Padres. Their sorry front office/ownership sat on their hands and tried to bandaid a shit team, selling it as a competitor.

Instead of trading Tyson Ross, Derek Norris, James Shields and possibly Matt Kemp and Andrew Cashner to try and pile up as much young talent as possible, they fooled themselves into thinking they were decent.

Now they're fucking good God almighty awful and there's zero help on the farm. This is what happens when your ownership thinks creating a winner happens overnight.

Lock Jaw 06-03-2016 10:21 PM

Padres probably hoping Shields opts out this offseason since they'd only be on the hook for this year's share of the money owed.

If they fall out, he's gone.

Mark Teixeira to the 15-day DL. Here's hoping he avoids the season ending surgery. Can probably ship him off to some sucker team for some prospects.

Season's pretty much a loss anyway right now.

Droford 06-04-2016 09:55 PM

Damian Rey 2.0 06-04-2016 10:18 PM

I like Tatis but realistically this is just a salary dump with the Padres getting two lottery tickets in return. I'll take it.
