Guy on the internet asks a stupid question he clearly doesn't know the answer to and calls other people on the internet stupid. Classic projection.

Was looking for the clip where he shames some fat dude in the crowd and the camera just lingers on the fan holding his head down in shame/embarrassment....
Such a premium gimmick. Totally wouldn't fly today. |

If you want to sell a newsletter or subscription to your feed or whatever, do whatever you can to make the WWE sound like it’s receding in a way that is going to deathly embarrass its network. Meanwhile, AEW is super cool, way to go. Then you get impressionable folk like slik and Smeat, who aren’t the best at critical thinking, and it gets regurgitated until it becomes something you actively need to correct. A recent example of this is when a lot of AEW fanboys thought that Meltzer was reporting the domestic buyrate of Double or Nothing recently. This was because Meltzer deliberately conflates domestic and international buys when comparing it to the domestic buys of other promotions. It’s very easy to lead people astray, and it might just be mildly annoying to some, but when you care about honesty, it can be downright infuriating that there are not more unbiased voices. |

So apparently this quote... “WWE Raw on Monday on the USA Network was watched by 1,472,000 viewers, a new all-time low for the show that debuted in 1993. 18-49 viewership was almost the same as last week, slightly up, and the 3rd lowest on record.” is an attempt to make it sound like WWE is receding in a way that is going to deathly embarrass the network? Or were you just reaching for a reason to rant about AEW/Meltzer? |
Quote:
Yes, the entire discussion around WWE’s business metrics is designed to spin a marketable narrative. Anyone can see that. You’re just being a stick in the mud to try and turn that into an argument. Misrepresenting ratings data, changing its context, conflating data, preying on anti-WWE dispositions — it’s all part of the same ball of twine. |
... He didn’t do any of that. He stated a fact and used the overall rating. The same one that has been used when discussing the ratings for as long as anyone on the internet has discussed the ratings.
You just saw a post stating that Raw got its lowest ratings ever and got triggered because it freaked you out that a bad story about WWE might be looked at as pro-AEW somehow so you had to spin shit. Suddenly the HOURLY ratings are what’s important now. Again, the overrall rating has ALWAYS been what is used primarily when discussing the ratings. You never complained about it before. It’s only a problem now because you’re paranoid and have to find a pro-AEW implication in everything. I’m not just being a stick in the mud. I’m calling you out on your clear-as-day bullshit. Stop it. |
Quote:
Lol, I didn’t “freak out.” Project harder, #fan. You saw a Noid post and got triggered because you have to be the contrarian to the perceived contrarian, because you can’t stand not being the smartest person in the room. Time to rip out those “Well, actually’s.” The pro-AEW/anti-WWE bias is definitely an annoying ass thing that permeates so much of online wrestling discussion at the moment. People don’t need to go looking for shit. You aren’t calling out anything. You are waiting in the wings looking for arguments. You don’t have to defend WWE to point out that the spin around the ratings is bullshit. Stop it. |
Do you disagree that WWE has a deal with USA where all three hours are individually registered?

After enjoying Mania, the follow up Raw and SmackDown failed to hold my interest and I've been out ever since. I'll probably try again and watch the first SmackDown and Raw with fans and MITB. If for no reason other than the novelty of seeing everyone's reaction to walking out in front of a crowd again. Whether they can hold me longer than a week again remains to be seen, given their booking track record probably not but I'll give them a go just because having fans makes any show feel refreshing.
Would really suck if the south's unwillingness to get vaccinated leads to variants serious enough to require another shutdown and wrestling grinds to a halt again. I can't handle any more pandemic wrestling. |

Watching Starrcade 1990 and there’s a phenomenal dive botch by some New Zealander onto Rick Steiner.
The guy flips over with the grace of Ahmed and Steiner must react late so the fella slides down his front and lands right on his head while Rick stands there laughing. |
Hahahaha the original Rey Misterio(original) just did the same damned thing at the end of his tag match too. Looks like he mangled his leg on the ring steps which were rigid wooden ones, not collapsible hollow ones like in WWE.
You don’t get a good peek at it or a replay and you didn’t for Steiner either so they must be legit. Misterio looked bad, his leg had a huge red line down it. |
Just realized I don’t think I’ve seen much of Rey Mysterio, Sr. at all.
|
He’s built like a barrel, looks nothing like his namesake and lands a lot harder. Like a sack of shit some might say.
|
WCW PPV’s were so random.
Pick any PPV and there are matches that look like they picked names out of a hat. I’m on The Great American Bash 1990 and it’s an ugly looking card. The prelim matches aren’t bad, just totally cold. Dutch Mantel vs Doug Furnas is like watching a big baby being slowly engulfed in hair. I thought Dutch was wearing a textured shirt until they zoomed in. |
WCW tv was good in the 80’s, especially during the clothesline era. Just loads of clothesline finishes with the occasional double clothesline in tag teams. That’s what’s missing now, finishes that come from nowhere by muscular dudes beating up guys that look like shit.
|
Lots of standing elbow drop finishes too.
Elbow drops look great. Buddy Landel made it look really sore. |
Buddy Landel is one of those dudes I see wrestle and I think “He might be my favorite ever.” He’s so good.

Good for wrestlers no? |
Supposedly WWE recently put out an internal mandate that Daniel Bryan is to be excluded from any future projects, such as the upcoming video game etc. Feels like a bit of a non-story given he's no longer under contract and it's pretty normal to cut released talent out of those things, but he's also been gone for two months and maybe they assumed he would've inked a new deal by now.
I'm still not holding my breath on him going anywhere but back to WWE whenever he decides to return to wrestling. But he's probably just enjoying his time off and getting to be a dad. Wouldn't be shocked if we don't see him resurface anywhere for a long while yet. |

Let me elaborate: a number of years ago, while these two were toiling in the undercard, they kept having these amazing yet throwaway classic matches that they honestly had zero right to have. I distinctly remember calling them "each other's Flair and Steamboat". They weren't even feuding. It was legit good shit with no impersonation of Vince in saying that. Absolutely magical stuff. With proper build to present both Dolph and Kofi as actual fucking stars, this could have been a holy shit, WrestleMania level main event match in-the-making. Instead, I'm just reminded about how the company has dropped the ball on them both, each in different ways... and those matches took place I believe between the time Dolph got that bullshit 90 minute world title reign, and before Randy Orton called Kofi "stupid". They both deserved better, and this would have been that treatment bearing fruit. Instead, folks won't care nearly as much as they could have if these guys were historically handled better. |

Lmaooo yes let’s blame the fans. Sound logic.
|
Lol Im pretty sure Destor is part of the “blame the fans” crowd based on past conversations. He’d be a good person to grill about that logic.
|
If WWE listened to fans, indie darlings like Kyle O'Reilly and Cesaro would be multi time champions. There's a reason they do not heed the masses.
|
AEW "listens to the fans" and that's why their numbers are stagnant. They cater to their fans.
Fucking Zack Ryder would be 5x world champ if the WWE did that. |
WWE does listen to fans. They just half-ass it. And that’s why their numbers are falling. Kofi Kingston is a former world champion.
I’d respect them more if they just committed to saying “Fuck the hardcores. We’re focusing on mainstream appeal.” Instead they try to appeal to everyone at any given time and it ends up appealing to no one. |

Kofi's ascension wasn't entirely organic. Fans weren't clamoring for a Kofi Kingston title run until he was chosen to replace Ali in the elimination chamber match. The push began in February and culminated in April when he won the belt. It's not even in the same league as that of Daniel Bryan's rise. There was no sustained uproar after Kingston lost the title to Brock. The fans like to pretend that they care. It was merely a business decision for an obvious reason. Just like the smackdown women's championship match at this year's Wrestlemania event. |
I think this is pretty true, no wrestling fan wants WWE to put on a bad show and it's generally frustrating they've been so all over the place for the last decade.

It doesn’t absolve WWE if their more egregious shit. They’re largely responsible for this climate, where voices that just want to enjoy wrestling are drowned out by people who think that their opinions are good or developed enough to warrant being heard. They ran off normal fans. But fans are not these unbiased arbiters of quality either. They will choose Zack Ryder over John Cena like it’s a good idea. They will lie about how over something is or isn’t. They want a product for their obsessive ego. You kind of have to move past that fan and the people in that circle who empower these really zonkers dispositions. |

There's still loads of tickets for the MSG SmackDown, which is actually being billed as a "SuperShow" with Raw.
I would normally laugh at the Garden not being an instant sellout but just looking at the obscene prices it's not particularly surprising. |

People can make all the excuses they want but any wrestling show outdrawing WWE in any demo on any night of the week is a testament to how badly WWE has sat on the ball and butchered their monopoly on the business. They should be so far ahead that this shouldn’t even be a discussion.
People who say AEW viewers are a niche audience whose only fans are the nerdiest of wrestling nerds are exactly right... And that’s why WWE should be embarrassed. They won a war and then took 20 years off and it’s showing. |
