That's amazing lol

Jordan 05-21-2021 09:26 PM

He was nice. Always kayfabed when wrestling came up. I ran into him a few other times at local Indy shows. He always made it seem like he and Yoko were a phone call away from returning to WWF. Once he told me that he and Yoko were going to come back and take the title from Austin. He was definitely a nice guy.

Evil Vito 05-22-2021 12:52 PM

Fun random wrestling fact: as of today, Matt Cross' reign as Olde Wrestling World Champion is 11 days away from equaling Bruno Sammartino's first run as WWWF Champ (2803 days), and unless they book a last-minute show with a title change in the next few days, will have exceeded it by the time they run again. He won it on the company's first show in September 2013 and never lost it.

It's obviously not the same thing as Olde Wrestling is largely a comedy promotion that runs a couple of shows a year at most (with a grand total of none since before the pandemic), and not all of their shows have featured a title defense. But as Big Poppa Pump would say, the numbers don't lie.

Texas death match got nodded into Fire Pro and it's easily my favorite match type.

Lock Jaw 05-22-2021 05:01 PM

Maybe you can use it when you continue the TPWW Tournament, huh?

Fignuts 05-22-2021 05:20 PM

The nerve damage in my hands has actually gotten worse, so that's on the back burner for now. Only a couple people seemed to be following it anyway.

drave 05-22-2021 05:31 PM

your firepro shit is top notch, no doubt.

Lock Jaw 05-22-2021 05:54 PM

Damn... that's rough @ your hands.... hope things improve...

Fignuts 05-22-2021 06:42 PM

It will. Just going to take time, and possibly a minor surgery. I'm starting occupational rehab where they use micro currents to stimulate the nerves. Some people respond really well to it, some not at all. Hopefully it works so I can avoid said surgery.

I'll definitely finish it up at a later time but right now it literally hurts to use a mouse and keyboard, and a lot of work goes into creating the edits and such. Time better spent doing rehab exercises.

Lock Jaw 05-22-2021 07:04 PM

Hope you get superpowers or something :y:

Seems the Ultimate Warrior biography episode on A&E tonight suffered from the same problems the Macho Man and Booker T ones did in regards to how Warrior's controversial past was handled based on those who watched it like David Bixenspan.

With Macho Man, they didn't shy away from his controversies but it ended up coming across more as WWE being petty while with Booker T, they swept the racism stuff he encountered in WWE under the rug while not shying away from the racism stuff he encountered prior to his WWE career.

Some of it was to be expected since WWE had a hands on role with its involvement but according to David Bixenspan, the episode whitewashes and blames others for Warrior being a bigot and homophobic and not just him being an actual shithead back in the day.

Jordan 05-23-2021 10:39 PM

Well Darkside will probably tell a different tale.

Fignuts 05-23-2021 11:56 PM

They also had the gall to say that Booker T in WWE was the first major black star that wasn't portrayed as a black stereotype. Which...holy shit I don't even know where to begin with that one.

Was watching a 2002 All Japan ppv tonight. M2K were on it

How fucking popular would Magnum Tokyo be if he came around today with his M2K/Do Fixer entrance instead of 20 years ago. It's still the greatest entrance ever.

Fignuts 05-25-2021 09:28 AM

lol I don't know, it works so well in Japan because they have a much larger female fan base. Lots of middle aged spinsters sitting in the front row waiting to put yen down his pants.

Jordan 05-25-2021 10:02 AM

I have been enjoying the Jarrett podcast episodes. Thanks for the recommendation Gert. Conrad's shows tend to over stay their welcome but they are great with new talent and perspectives. I really wish he could get one with Bill Watts of he's mentally capable. Hopefully he gets Heyman one day too. Dreamer would probably be a good one as well.

2 hours. The playlist cuts out all the Nitro/Thunder recaps, so it's just the matches and quick backstage interviews with Mean Gene/ Lee Marshall

If I remember correctly, the biggest mystery for years surrounding the cover for that album was which show the photo came from and what was the original photo used for the basis.

XL 05-28-2021 06:16 PM

Is it even Booker on the album cover?

Emperor Smeat 05-28-2021 06:28 PM

No.

Another tweet by the same person talks about the cover being heavily photoshopped but believes he managed to finally pinpoint when the original photo for its basis was taken.

Think Jericho's name gets mentioned the most over who the cover person might be.

The WWE is such a weird company

I had no recollection of them using the old WWF logo on Old School RAW

He was very briefly announced as WWF Champion on House Shows.

Mr. Nerfect 05-29-2021 06:31 PM

Apparently he’s a regular character in NXT these days. Who knew? Guess he needs some money after being caught defrauding that church.

Bad News Gertner 05-29-2021 07:19 PM

He's amazing in NXT with Cameron Grimes.

It’s a good fit. I was thinking they should do it the other day, then discovered that they actually are.

I always thought it was Jerry Lynn on the Anthology cover.

I wish they would put him in his old suit. Obvs would need to be tailored or make a new one.

This is super interesting. It's a news report done by Connie Chung on her Saturday Night show she used to do in 1990. Lots of bullshit regarding money generated by wrestling, but it's really cool

The funniest thing about that is WWE is making all these moves to become even more profitable, but they never even considered that if they made better TV they would make more money

Would it really? At this point there’s no reason for them to believe that because they’re making money hand over fist anyways.

#1-norm-fan 06-02-2021 09:55 PM

They can keep making money off their glory days forever. Not making interesting content and not making stars people will pay to see now or in the future definitely costs them money though.

The past 15 years of content is way more plentiful but not nearly as valuable as the previous 15 years of content. That’s a bad trend.

Fignuts 06-02-2021 09:59 PM

Making the kind content that fans will universally enjoy could likely clash with what their investors and sponsors want from them. And they're not going to risk that, especially when they're already doing great financially.

Going public was the death knell of WWE as a wrestling promotion.

#1-norm-fan 06-02-2021 10:17 PM

I never understood the argument that making a product that will be universally enjoyed might piss off the investors.

Other than the potential that making the product more enjoyable might cost more money I can't really think of any reason why it would piss off investors. It literally doesn't make sense.

Because what the fans want may not line up with the image of what the investors want the company to be.

slik 06-02-2021 11:06 PM

A record low rating probably means it's time for another Legends night, the return of Raw Supershow or the McMahons on tv as authority figures.

I’m pretty sure the investors want money. Which is made by producing a compelling product. Which is also what fans want.

Still not seeing the disconnect.

Fignuts 06-02-2021 11:18 PM

If WWE were to put more focus into making fan pleasing content, they might make more money. However, if they botch it, they could end up losing money. Because as cliche as it may be, the truth is what the fans want isn't always what's best for business. If you're an investor, and WWE is making increasing boatloads of money with their current product, why would you want them to change?

For the fans? Investors don't give a flying fuck about the fans.

For wrestling? Investors don't give a flying fuck about wrestling.

All Investors care about is the perception of the brand that they've attached their money to. And when I say perception, I don't mean the perception of WWE by a bunch of wrestling fans on the internet. I mean the perception of wall street.

#1-norm-fan 06-02-2021 11:32 PM

What is the botch they risk by making the product better?

They’re making money on their library. How does improving the current product risk fucking that up? You’re talking as if “improving the current product” means a bunch of blood, shocking language and corpse-fucking that would please a niche audience but be a PR nightmare.

Fignuts 06-02-2021 11:44 PM

Investors want consistency and are afraid of change, unless it's necessary. WWE, bland as it may be to us, is nothing if not consistent. It's just a product to them. As long as it's making money they're not going to want them to change in any way.

It's the same reason why EA continues to release the same $60 sports games every year with little changes despite the cries from hard-core fans that "this is the worst version yet". Because it still makes ungodly amounts of money.

If it doesn't need to change, then there's no point in changing it. That's the mentality. Not saying for one minute that I'm happy about it, but that's what it is.

Another issue is some investors may see a problem with the content where there was none. The result there is stuff like the post Nexus debut chaos firing* of Daniel Bryan after Justin Roberts sold being choked with his own necktie like a goddamn champ. It was upsetting to a boardroom, so they had to apologize for what they had obviously planned to do and fire* DB for what was (at the time) the most interesting angle formed in a good long while.

Fans thought it was great, but it was "too far" for some suit(s).

*I will always asterisk this, because I think it was done in paperwork form only. They had to make it look legit. He got fired with a wink and a nod and a handshake agreement that after the incident blew over, he was "rehired". I believe he was thanked for his discretion on the matter with that initial US title run on his "return".
