PAC-K wins! Bah Gawd!

Evil Vito 10-02-2019 09:10 PM

PAC 2-0 with both wins being over important guys due to ref stoppage. That's excellent.

Emperor Smeat 10-02-2019 09:10 PM

PAC vs Hangman was pretty good overall. Best match Page has had in AEW soo far.

Keep in mind, the years have been kinder to Tony than JR. I just don't think JR has the energy and the strength to stay consistently on top of everything.

Besides age and some life issues in recent years, JR has struggled a lot adjusting to the faster pace of modern wrestling. Had that issue during his time with NJPW and early on with AEW.

He still one of the best when it comes to generating genuine emotions for matches.

Cody said in some interview that "quality of wins" will also matter, like college football rankings, and MJF beat Cutler pretty easily so seems like they will do it right

#1-norm-fan 10-02-2019 09:11 PM

PAC 2-0 with two submissions over two of the guys who are supposed to be top stars.

Instantly invested in him now.

ClockShot 10-02-2019 09:11 PM

The Doctor is in.

Dark One 10-02-2019 09:11 PM

Pacing of the first hour was pretty wonky. Opening with a match with the crowd white hot because it was the first match and then just a quick match (possibly truncated) between Cutler/MJR... and then everything else was just commercials and promos.

I get it, but given that NXT is throwing out a Takeover basically, I'd have gone a lot harder for the first hour.

I'm sure they'll figure it out and refine their formula. The rough product so far has been good in that it has been mostly serious/direct stuff. They had the celeb appearance and stuff, but it's not like Vickie Guerrero projectile vomiting on Stephanie McMahon or whatever.

GD 10-02-2019 09:12 PM

Mrs. Cole makes an appearance.

GD 10-02-2019 09:13 PM

Not really keen to watch this one. Going to flip over.

Damian Rey 2.0 10-02-2019 09:13 PM

Nyla Rose squash coming? She's got great music.

Evil Vito 10-02-2019 09:13 PM

I have an enormous crush on Riho

xrodmuc316 10-02-2019 09:14 PM

Sigh, I was most hyped about that match coming in, but that was fairly average.

I know Hangman is one of the Elite, but I think it's time to pull back on the presenting him as a top talent for the time being. He is too bland and if he can't get a barn burner with Pac, something is clearly missing.

slik 10-02-2019 09:14 PM

Let's go Riho!

Jordan 10-02-2019 09:15 PM

I think Nyla is gonna win.

If wins and losses matter but all the matches are close, I still think that's a vast improvement over WWE's 50/50 booking in the past--I haven't watched lately to know if it's actually any better than it was. Ideally if you have someone that's won like fifteen matches straight versus somebody that's won a few matches and lost a few matches, the guy with the streak is going look better and have more momentum. But, even in "real" sports, there can be close games/upsets even with a lopsided game on paper, so I wouldn't be TOO worried about "even" matches.

Jordan 10-02-2019 09:16 PM

There is more in the division to challenge Nyla than Riho.

Emperor Smeat 10-02-2019 09:16 PM

Going to commercial before a match begins and not like seconds to a minute after it starts is another good thing AEW is doing for their show compared to WWE. Same for not having a bunch of commercials breaking up the flow of a match.

Helps make things feel more enjoyable to watch overall.

Riho beat her earlo but I can't see her winning tonight

Jordan 10-02-2019 09:17 PM

Imagine after a few years when AEW finds the guy who they want do an undefeated gimmick with. After sticking with the wins and losses that is a sure fire hit.

Not putting Hikaru Shida--or a few others--was a mistake, I think. I get the dynamic they're going for, but these two strike me as pretty low on the crowd-investment scale.

Evil Vito 10-02-2019 09:18 PM

Pretty clear Nyla will win and Britt will be her first challenger

I'd much rather a wrestler lose 6 close matches in a row then win lose win lose win lose. It tells a far better story.

slik 10-02-2019 09:18 PM

Can that belt even fit on Nyla

Jordan 10-02-2019 09:18 PM

Fatnassy booking Nyla Rose vs Nia Jax

#1-norm-fan 10-02-2019 09:19 PM

Lol. Tiny title belt.

Jordan 10-02-2019 09:19 PM

I don't mean to offend anyone but I do think that Riho probably tastes good.

Needs that Mark Henry/Big Show ECW belt extender

Evil Vito 10-02-2019 09:21 PM

I just cackled at that double footstop counter, that ruled.

Triple A 10-02-2019 09:22 PM

Don't think there have been any long ass chin locks where the person getting the chin lock just sits still for 30 seconds... glad.......

Jordan 10-02-2019 09:23 PM

Oh man if you can't take Nyla down with high cross from the top to the outside, you fucked!

I give it a month before MJF does it to piss people off.

Upsets are fine. I just worry about EVERY match being competitive. Parity in real sports suck. When you can script it, you should try to avoid it. Simply making wins and losses matter is definitely an improvement over WWE booking. Hopefully they pay more attention to detail than just wins and losses though.

I love how enthused Kevin Smith is with all this wrasslin' on TNT

Jordan 10-02-2019 09:23 PM

Just want to say this ref, Paul Turner, best in the biz.

Evil Vito 10-02-2019 09:24 PM

Ouch

Evil Vito 10-02-2019 09:25 PM

Britt Baker hasn't grasped that when you're a special guest on commentary, you're meant to talk

That's fair. You definitely don't want to get into a spot where people zone out for the first ten minutes because every match goes at least fifteen, for sure.

I do think it's probably wise to have a lot of even matches to start out with as you're trying to establish a lot of folks.

Droford 10-02-2019 09:27 PM

Jesus Christ at rihho on that leg drop
