Mr. Nerfect 02-02-2019 03:26 AM

They're on the AEW Wiki page, for however much stock you want to put into that.

Jordan 02-02-2019 10:27 AM

If they have Phenix and Penta, then yeah... things are as they should be. They need to be in AEW.

Jordan 02-02-2019 10:28 AM

Why isn't anyone talking about Chris Hero? Did you read NXT spoilers? Does everyone think it's a work? I have to assume so because I haven't herd anyone talk about him for AEW.

Jordan 02-02-2019 10:35 AM

Just for public record I'd like to state the following. I'd much prefer AEW get an event based TV deal like Bellator or UFC than a weekly series like WWE, ROH, Impact, or Lucha Underground. I'd prefer one to three larger televised events per month that lead to a larger by monthly PPV. Very much like NJPW or Bellator. Having a weekly series is draining, feels like death. I want something new, not a weekly schedule to be stuck to. I feel that two hours a week in the current climate is just muddying the water. Let's keep it fresh and let us miss you a little bit. In between show's AEW could contract out certain performers to other promotions around the globe to supplement their own and the performers income.

Vastardikai 02-02-2019 10:46 AM

Hence why I feel like there should be individual channels on YouTube for the talent. Develop their storylines in a way that is more accessible to fans.

Yeah that would be really cool. Use BTE as a weekly show that keeps eveything focused and heading in a specific direction while plugging more in depth storytelling on a workers channel.

Vastardikai 02-02-2019 04:24 PM

It would also be a more accurate barometer on who is a draw or not.

I mentioned it somewhere back there. It’d be cool if he does go. I think it’s a wait and see situation with him at the moment. He might have had a two-year deal come up, but they could have just left him off. It seems far more likely this is a work than the Ambrose stuff. Or it could be a call-up/move to EVOLVE/NXT UK.

The thing is that those weekly shows are going to be where the money comes from to sell the concept of these larger shows too. It’s interesting you mention Bellator though, because I was just reading yesterday that they signed with DAZN to do 7 exclusive events a year and 15 mutual ones with Paramount. Something like this would be excellent for All Elite. If they got a weekly deal with TNT, 15 Clash/SNME specials on TBS Saturday nights and 7 DAZN-exclusive “PPVs” and they sold content at even half the price of WWE, then that’s still about $155 million a year.

Some details about the Lucha Bros contract situation with AEW and why AEW (and others) are waiting for Lucha Underground to die off so they don't have to deal with their shenanigans anymore.

LU going back on their word of letting anyone out of their contract after Season 4 ended made things a lot more complicated for certain wrestlers and companies.

Quote:

Lucha Central explains the situation with the most logical answer: the Lucha Brothers have signed a deal to work non-exclusively AEW shows, similar to the ones they’ve signed with Impact and MLW, not the exclusive deals that hinted at last night. It seems a safe guess the same is true with Joey Ryan, who’s been part of these AEW appearances and also under a LU deal.

As long as they’re under Lucha Underground contracts, that’s the most Fenix & Penta can do. My informed assumption is that AEW contract will likely be changed to an exclusive one when/if LU is canceled. Other agreed upon deals will be fulfilled – similar to how Bandido is still working some non-ROH dates – but there will be no new shows added after that point. No one knows when LU’s future will be decided and AEW probably didn’t want to wait until forever to get it worked out.

This is a subheadline: assuming Penta & Fenix do sign with AEW, they join Rush & Bandido in recent Mexican wrestlers who’ve passed up likely WWE/NXT deals to go elsewhere. I think WWE is still capable of signing Mexican wrestlers, but those who have had experience and become an international star outside of CMLL seemed to be looking at other options. WWE’s going to have to target those who haven’t made names outside of Mexico.

Part of the deal is that they'll have to take the old RAW opening from an angle that happened a couple of times to literally changing the show to "WWE Monday Night RAW starring Brock Lesnar". Everyone will need to adjust their DVR settings accordingly.

Supposedly Randy Orton's contract has also been coming up and he's told people backstage he'll entertain offers from AEW.

The thought of Orton wrestling somewhere other than WWE is so fucking weird.

Maluco 02-06-2019 10:25 AM

I am quietly loving this tbh. WWE have been resting in their laurels for about a decade, and for the ast 5-6 years have just been hoarding talent and securing them to contracts without any intention to use anyone bar 2-3 guys properly.

I assume they believed that no one rich would be bothered going into wrestling again and cornering the market. They deserve this for how they have squandered so much talent in recent years and for how little effort they have put into their product.

Was just thinking about Bray Wyatt recently. Charisma, aura, intriguing personality, fantastic entrance, and can actually go in the ring and look at what they did with him. When there is no competition, it doesn’t matter how many guys you ruin on a whim

Hoping guys like Orton do walk away and really give them something to think about. Thy might have to finally do some work and give people exciting TV again

Jordan 02-06-2019 11:04 AM

I cannot say for sure if AEW would be interested in Orton. I personally do not want him on that roster. And honestly, unless he makes some major changes I don't care to see Ambrose there either, or Undertaker for that matter. AJ, sure but I'd be fine if he stays in WWE.

Evil Vito 02-06-2019 12:10 PM

I feel like Orton's probably just floating AEW out there to get more money from WWE.

Then again, Jericho vowed to never leave and got the biggest contract of his career. So you never know if the price is right.

Innovator 02-06-2019 12:25 PM

Orton would tower over a lot of guys in AEW, could probably work a big man style.

Vastardikai 02-06-2019 02:21 PM

His slow methodically boring style would make him the biggest heel in AEW.

The visual impact of such a “WWE prototype” walking into an AEW show is too amazing to pass up. He’s about as close as you’re going to get to a Scott Hall/Kevin Nash jump.

I’m not keen on Undertaker wrestling, but the visual of him working ANYWHERE else changes everything in wrestling. He’s WWE’s sacred cow.

Press conference soon, yeah? Kenny Omega is apparently definitely in, but I think they have a different surprise.

La Parka will be AEWs Chairman Of the Board

Mr. Nerfect 02-07-2019 08:45 PM

Hmm, this is interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about AAA. They're obviously big, but I've heard some horror stories too. How have they been running lately? This also seems to imply that they will run in a different circle to New Japan, ROH and CMLL. It looks like it might be AEW, AAA and NOAH.

I think one thing is certain though: La Parka should be the first inductee into the AEW Hall of Fame.

Mr. Nerfect 02-07-2019 08:46 PM

This could potentially ease tensions with Lucha Underground, or if LU is abandoned a lot of the talent might end up in AEW.

Most likely, but not for certain.

Best case, he would get AJ Styles push
Worst case, he would get Kenta's push

Most likely though, he gets a Finn/Shinsuke push, without an amazing year+ run in NXT first where we could enjoy him, which would be even more disappointing.

Very entertaining heel mannerisms in the ring also

Mr. Nerfect 02-08-2019 01:02 AM

MJF impressed me more here than he has in other stuff. He’s not bad, per se, it’s just very by the motions. I thought he felt very “organic” tonight. He’s going to be great and in that “next generation” of main talent with Hangman Page (who also reminded me of Matthew McConnaughey, Slik). Honestly, I thought the promos were so much better than WWE. Kylie was a little overexcited and “inside,” but I appreciate the fucking humanity. PAC was tremendous. Michael Nee has more charisma than most of the WWE roster.

Fuck yeah to Aja Kong. Alex Marvez sounds so much better than any WWE announcer not named Nigel McGuinness. Nothing groundbreaking here, but you also can’t set that precedent. I want to see all the matches they announced/teased. It did its job.

slik 02-08-2019 01:36 PM

I think they won't have a lot of promos on their actual show, I think they'll take a page from New Japan in that aspect and be more action-oriented.

Double Or Nothing will really be our first chance to judge their production quality and so forth. If they can cut out WWE's god-awful shakey cam/zoom nonsense that will be a big plus right out of the gate. Same for over-reliance on using the hard-cam-side setup. I miss that about WCW, WCW looked and felt different than WWF/E and they didn't stick to that monotonous hard-cam-side.

Cody said in an interview they might come up with a star system to rank athletes and matches but he didn't elaborate

Simple Fan 02-08-2019 04:47 PM

That's probably a bad idea. Those things never go well and are usually abandoned after a month or two never to be talked about again. Even if it is sport oriented ranking systems don't generally work in pro wrestling.

Emperor Smeat 02-08-2019 04:49 PM

Some stuff from a recent interview Omega had with the Observer Radio show.

He signed a 4 year deal too.

But he does say that he made sure his contract would allow him to do New Japan if that relationship ever comes together because they want to work with them.

Kenny says Ibushi has committments with his wrestling school in Japan (I didn't know he had one?) but he expects him to show up in AEW at some point, but not at Double or Nothing.

Towards the end he says something really interesting. Says that for the G1 when he faced Ibushi at the Budokan, they sold 144% of the building, while Tana/Okada on a different night had only sold 65%. Kenny says the New Japan office sent emails around saying that free tickets need to be given away for the Tana/Okada show because they can't have two guys from the indies (Kenny/Ibushi) outselling their home grown guys.

At this point, being roughly 2 months out of the G1 Supercard show at MSG during 'Mania weekend, they hopefully have some sort of agreement/partnership in place with New Japan and/or Ring of Honor in the works so that most of the AEW roster will be able to compete.

I think a lot of ticket buyers were under the impression that they would be seeing Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, Cody, Hangman Page etc. at the show. As of right now Okada, Tanahashi, and Naito are the only confirmed names.

My concerned level has gone up slightly, but I'm still going.

Cody’s already said that he’s taking Mania weekend off for the first time in his career. I wouldn’t expect any of the AEW guys there.

AEW really kicked NJPW and ROH in the kneecap.

I finally got the chance to watch the Double or Nothing party. Good vibes....no idea why they had it around a pool, though....that was probably heated. I guess they have to work with what MGM gives 'em for space.

They seemed to work around their mic problems alright. It's not like they have Kevin Dunn's minions in trailers working around the clock.

Despite skipping here and there, I'm still as excited as Creature would be to see 10 million viewers for Impact Wrestling.

MGM Grand Ultra Pool is one of the big party spots in Vegas. Actually gotta buy a ticket to get in.

You are right they need to get some different bodies up there. Shame they couldn’t get Brodie King and PCO.

Cody confirms that Double or Nothing will be priced cheaper than the 'E.

I think that's a trend they should continue for as long as they can, will help get people in seats.

According to the Observer, NJPW's big plan for ROH's G1 Supercard show was going to be Omega vs Okada for the IWGP belt had Omega not left NJPW for AEW.

No 'hard cam on the side' setup, it will be filmed differently than WWE. Fingers crossed for no shakey cam!

I dunno, section 13 appears to be blacked out. I'd think that's where the cameras are.

AAAAAAAAAAnd it's sold out

slik 02-11-2019 03:56 PM

Out of PreSale Tix or everything?

Innovator 02-11-2019 04:02 PM

They had over 12,000 presale codes handed out and no one can get a single ticket now

slik 02-11-2019 04:09 PM

Looks like the regular sale is still on and they didn't release all the seats to the presale maybe?
