Ive actually never played suikoden but have been thinking of trying them out. I've only heard good things for the most part.

Right now I'm actually finishing up Chrono Cross. Can't believe I never played it until now considering Trigger is one of my 2 favorite games ever.

What Would Kevin Do? 08-05-2012 01:11 AM

Open world, proper RPG style.

5 was open world map too.

McDohl would show up, as would Yuber and Persmerga.

I think most of the true Runes make you immortal. I could be wrong though (I think that was mentioned in three, because Geddoe was supposed to be older than he appeared, wasn't he?)

Star Dragon Sword would still be around.

Not to mention you could easily have some other characters who up because of Vicki. Hell, part of the story could be an older Vicki, having mastered her powers, able to take you back in time at certain points and collect some people...

Which would be a great way to finish the Victor and Flik saga, and explain why they were absent in 3.

LoDownM 08-05-2012 01:16 AM

I still need to play 5.. Sold the PS2 I had tho because I didn't want to spend 15 bucks for a new controller for a console I had no games to play lol.

What Would Kevin Do? 08-05-2012 01:24 AM

5 does some things amazingly well. For example, all characters have a pre-fight pose and a post fight pose, some of which are more awesome than others. For example, one character has his sword sheathed at his side prior to the fight, and his pre-fight pose, instead of pulling the sword out, is yanking the sheath backwards and throwing it off to the side.

There's just a lot of little details that made the game great.

BUT, the main character is REALLY effeminate.

Blitz 08-05-2012 05:02 AM

Just happy at all the Suikoden talk going on right now.

I will admit Suikoden 1 had some issues, like only being able to run with a certain person in your party, but Sukioden 2 fixed a lot of the problems from one and has one of the best villains ever in Luca Blight. The stories in 1&2 are both fucking fantastic too if you actually pay attention to the game.

I knew I didn't need to collect everybody, but it was ridiculous how they did things like make you recruit this one guy if you want to get a world map. I remember finding that guy pretty luckily too. I liked the concept but thought it was executed really poorly, a lot of the characters were useless, and the war scenes seemed unnecessary. I remember it being a lot of fetch quests too, "You need to go to this castle, but go to this dungeon first so you can get something," that was a lot of it. Also the only game I have ever had to mute because the castle music was so annoying. Just seemed so simplistic, again the story could have been good but the way it was told was really lame. I never felt like I was overthrowing anything with this piece of crap group I had assembled.

Heisenberg 08-05-2012 08:11 PM

I respect your input on that, OssMan, I'm just a diehard Suikoden fan and would love to recreate the fun factor I had playing these games from years ago.

Either scenario would have Virgil Games shift over to a new project in order to create a new mega-selling series THQ needs for financial purposes.

THQ said their best-selling nonlicensed game was Saints Row the Third, which sold under 4 million last I checked. So what they want is a game that will sell better than Saints Row the third, likely in a shorter time period.

Good to know that despite Kalyx-level stock prices, they have EA-level ambition.

According to a recent leak from the official Ubisoft forums, Ubisoft is considering another reboot for their Prince of Persia franchise with this time being potentially influenced by the Assassin's Creed series.

Years ago Ubisoft was rumored to be considering rebooting the franchise under the codename of "Prince of Persia Zero" before it was cancelled and replaced with the cell-shaded 2008 Prince of Persia game.

The new leak suggests another attempt at PoP Zero, this time nicknamed "Prince of Persia Zero 2", is currently in the making with the leaked screen showing off the code name.

People are already suggesting the new Prince of Persia game will be heavily influenced by the Assassin's Creed series based on the screen shots leaked with a lot of concern coming from the official forums over the potentially new direction.

Ubisoft has yet to respond to the leak at the moment.

Interest in a revival of the TimeSplitters series is "not high enough yet" for franchise owner Crytek, the publisher has announced.

Crytek boss Cevat Yerli explained that recent fan interest in the series was "quite high", but still not enough.

"I tested through my official blog to see how big the TimeSplitters community is, and while the volume of responses was quite high, we feel it's not high enough yet," Yerli told VG247.

A recent Facebook campaign aimed to recruit a 100,000-strong army dedicated to the revival of canned project TimeSplitters 4. The page currently has around 29,000 Facebook fans.

Yerli teased that Crytek may still have TimeSplitters-related surprises on the horizon, however.

"That being said, it did indeed trigger a deeper evaluation of what we do with Timesplitters, and I can only say this for now; we might have some surprises coming soon."

Let's hope it's more than just a Sergeant Cortez skin in Crysis 3.

Yerli has previously spoken of his love for the series, which was developed at British studio Free Radical Design by members of the Goldeneye and Perfect Dark team.

"I wish we would develop it. We can't develop it the way Free Radical had started it before we acquired them," he said. "So let me say it this way: I love the picture of a Timesplitters running on GFACE. So if we get enough fans, being loud enough..."

Based on recent job postings, the next Xbox console will arrive within the next 18 months and would include Skype.

Microsoft has been rumored to now be looking at a late 2013 release date after earlier rumors of a late 2012 to early 2013 release won't be occurring.

Quote:

The job description reads: “Over the next eighteen months Microsoft will release new versions of all of our most significant products including Windows (Client, Server, Phone and Azure), Office and Xbox, along with completely new offerings like Microsoft Surface.”

“This wave of product launches will define the course of the company for years to come and thus provides an unprecedented opportunity for us to refresh and evolve our strategic brands.”
In another job posting from Microsoft, Skype is being teased as a new feature for the next Xbox console but will also include the Xbox 360 once the project is finished.

Microsoft bought Skype mid-2011 for around $8.5 billion and have been rumored ever since to be expanding the service to every platform with the next Xbox console being included.

Quote:

The person who fills this position would be responsible for working with the current Xbox team and help Skype enter the living room “across various devices but with a focus on the large screen and the next generation of Xbox”. That team in Redmond is working on “both current Xbox and next gen”, so Skype might be developed for both platforms.

According to a recent announcement by Game Informer and a few rumors, a huge announcement will occur during the upcoming Gamescom expo.

The announcement might be the official debut of Half-Life 3 after Game Informer reveals they are not allowed to show a preview of their upcoming issue's cover since it would spoil the "world premeier" announcement. Also contributing to the rumors of the announcement being Half Life 3 is due to Game Trailers who stated they have a special trailer video dedicated to just Valve which will occur on September 16 or 17.

The announcement is expected to occur during the EA press conference which also is a publisher for Valve games on consoles.

Quote:

According to Game Informer there is an embargo on the game, which takes place next Tuesday at 16 clock. Exactly at that time held the press conference by Electronic Arts at gamescom.

With the disclosure of which would perhaps be meant Half Life 3 for which there is rumors for months, not least because of clues that Valve has even spread. Since Valve released their games from Electronic Arts, this could well be a connection. In addition, it is on 16 August, a special valve type with GTTV, perhaps a further indication that this is indeed a Valve game.
Previously rumors teased Grand Theft Auto V would have been the huge announcement after E3 had passed. The rumors were debunked by Gamescom organizers who stated a mistake lead to the debut trailer being listed on their website while Rockstar themselves have never attended Gamescom nor made an application to attend this year.

A couple of Battlefield related news as the series celebrates its 10 year anniversary today and Battlefield 4 will stay in the modern setting.

During the ongoing 2012 Game Developer Conference, the general manager of DICE, Karl Magnus Troedsson, revealed the Battlefield series turned 10 years old today with about 50 million games sold in the entire series. Battlefield 3 alone accounts for 12 million of the series total sales.

Troedsson also revealed Battlefield 4 will be taking place during the modern day just like Battlefield 3. So far the only other details known about the game is a release date of late 2013 is currently being planned for the game.

Quote:

“There’s a lot of things inspiring us as to how the franchise will move on. Everything from fans’ feedback, to market research and, of course, what we want to build ourselves. It’s not just one single thing,” he said at GDC Europe. “And, yes, I know Battlefield 4 is probably the most creative name we ever could come up with. I can’t comment any more on that games because it’s all secret.”

“We still want to stay in this genre, the modern day as it is. We feel this is a place we can be and continue with the series. Battlefield 4 can live in this space and be very successful.”
Previously, DICE had teased a bit at the potential for the next Battlefield game to take place in the near future after becoming worried about first person shooters becoming a bit stale in the modern setting while the market soon could be showing signs of loosing interest in favor of wanting something new.

During the Sony press conference at Gamescom today, the company revealed a brand new game which will rely heavily on the PS Move.

The game is called "Until Dawn" and is essentially similar to teen horror and slasher style films in terms of gameplay and story.

Yeah, it does look pretty good. They say the combat controls are kinda pokey, according to an IGN review. That can be dealt with, as the rest of the game was fairly solid.

The game map seemed kinda small, when you compare it to other games like it. It might not have been meant to adhere to the 'open world', sandbox genre though. I'll have to wait, though. I'm already committed to Forza Horizon, WWE13 and eventually GTA 5.

At Gamescom, EA re-announces a new Command & Conquer game is being development and is being done by Bioware who teased they were working on a game for the series months ago.

Titled as "Command & Conquer", the game follows the same RTS style as past games in the series while also using the free-to-play model.

In terms of content, the first content piece available at launch will be based on the Generals 2 game with more "universes" to be added in the future such as the Red Alert and Tiberium settings.

The game itself runs on the Frostbite 2.0 engine while Bioware Victory studio is working on the project. A closed beta will be available in the future with official signups to occur at the game's official webpage.

Capcom reveals the official 25th anniversary celebration for the Mega Mna series will be a new game called "Mega Man Xover" and will only be available for iOS devices.

The game is a social RPG type game which will allow players to customize their own Mega Man character while visually borrowing from the Mega Man X iOS game released earlier in the year.

The setting for the game takes place in the Xover World which is a crossover of all the worlds within the entire series.

In terms of storyline, Dr. Wily teams up with Sigma to lock away all the Mega Man heroes into a separate universe while Dr. Light and Dr. Cossack create a new playable robot hero to save them all.

The game has a Fall 2012 release date with December 17 expected to be the actual date.

According to several sites and sources, OnLive could be facing bankruptcy and shutting down soon with several sites stating their sources reveal layoffs are currently happening at the company.

An official statement by the company denies anything bad is going on right now with the company but Kotaku has stated the company recently filed a bankruptcy-like claim in the state of California.

According to GiantBomb and EGMNow who have contacts close to the situation are reporting a 10am meeting occurred recently with the entire staff present fired on the spot. Both also supposedly had witnesses who confirmed seeing employees leaving the building with moving boxes.

Quote:

According to a source close to the situation, the company called an all hands meeting at 10am PDT, at which the entire staff was fired. Some staffers may be rehired as the company transitions to its next unknown iteration.

Our source tells us that many employees blame the failure of the company squarely on the CEO — who refused to sell the company “many times.” There is speculation that the future company may simply be pure intellectual property play. OnLive reportedly has lots of patents covering cloud-distributed content, especially in 3D graphics.
While the rumors point to OnLive no longer existing as a company soon, there is also the small possibility of the company itself not completely shutting down as a whole and instead being rebranded under a new name but as a much smaller company.

The news also comes as a concern to the upcoming Ouya console who had recently announced a partnership with OnLive as a way to help bring the entire OnLive catalog and service to their console.

CEO also recently accepted full blame for creating the financial mess for the company which lead to the recent filing for a type of bankruptcy called "Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors."

Yesterday he was being blamed solely for the mess and doing nothing about it nor informing the employees of the situation until it was too late which lead to the mass firings yesterday.

His official reason was basically over expansion to the point of them having over 8000 servers being used by only 1600 paid users.

According to rumors from a potential survey, Dragon Age 3 could be featuring a co-op mode, the story taking place during a civil war, and a few other gameplay details.

The survey which hasn't been confirmed nor denied by EA and/or Bioware reveals plans for online and co-op modes along with finishing moves and the ability to control up to 4 party members out of a pool of 10 heroes at a time. The ability to use spies is also rumored as another feature for the game.

In terms of the game's story, the player takes on the role of an Inquisitor who's goal is to stop a civil war currently going on in the land of Thedas.

Quote:

“Take the Inquisitor’s cloak and lead the only force able of bringing light into the darkness. Choose the direct method and gather your armies, send spies into the shadows or engage in a political war, make friends and use your connections indirectly: it is up to you how you lead the inquisition.”

According to Ubisoft, piracy has been such a problem for them on the PC that they are dropping their current PC model in order to enter the free-to-play model.

The company blames piracy for all the problems they have encountered with the platform stating they have suffered close to a 95% piracy rate and they are barely making any money from the games released on the PC.

While they are not expecting a larger percentage of people to suddenly buy their games once they become free-to-play, the company did state it will provide more long term revenues. According to their data, only 5-7% of all users in the free-to-play model actually pay to unlock everything which is roughly the same percentage of users who don't pirate PC games.

Quote:

"The advantage of F2P is that we can get revenue from countries where we couldn't previously -- places where our products were played but not bought. Now with F2P we gain revenue, which helps brands last longer," he told Eurogamer. "It's a way to get closer to your customers, to make sure you have a revenue. On PC it's only around 5-7% of the players who pay for F2P, but normally on PC it's only about 5-7% who pay anyway, the rest is pirated.

"It's around a 93-95% piracy rate, so it ends up at about the same percentage. The revenue we get from the people who play is more long term, so we can continue to bring content."
The company however did not take any blame for their DRM on the platform which is notorious for crashing or not working at all which ends up leaving legitimate customers unable to play the game or have to download an illegal copy just to play.

Some news regarding Peter Molyneux's game called "Curiosity" as the game has been delayed and will be getting a name change.

22 Cans studio announces the game has been delayed after missing its initial release date schedule but the good news is the delay will only be for a couple of weeks. The new release date is now set for a TBA September date with the actual date to be announced in the near future. To make up for the delay, a new trailer was released for the game.

The other piece of news is the game's name will now be changed although the reason is not due to trademark or delay issues but instead of the game no longer being the top preferences on Google.

According to Molyneux, the decision was due to NASA's Curiosity rover landing on Mars which has taken over as the preferred status for the word on Google's search engine. He did state the company is currently accepting name suggestions from tweets sent to their Twitter account.

Quote:

"The name change is prompted by the need to have something simple to search for in Google. This worked well for 'Curiosity' but since NASA: Curiosity is now obviously generating a lot of interest we need to change the name."

Update the previous news of a sequel to the rpg game of The World Ends With You as Square-Enix officially reveals the game a few days before the countdown was meant to end.

The game will arrive on iOS devices after also accidentally being leaked by the online store before it was taken down.
