But they were still brought in on their old names and presented as "check out these slightly popular names". They just weren't "check out these more popular names they are the best, love them immediately".

Homegrown talent has always meant one thing. I’m not sure why it’s suddenly up for debate.

If people like Zayn, Neville, and Ciampa are homegrown nxt talent, then Jericho, Eddie, and Benoit were homegrown WCW talent.

Except they’re not. Because that’s not what homegrown means.

With the help of my Mom and Grandpa, I made that dream my reality. At 23 years old, my priority was me and only me. I lived the life that the old timers told me about and life on the road was everything I thought it would be at first. As the years went on my career evolved and so did I. I became a man, a husband and a father. Year after year, loss after loss my time in the ring became less and less fulfilling and my time at home became more and more precious but there was never a healthy balance between the two. Leaving WWE may have not been on my terms, but moving forward the choices I make regarding my career and my life will be ONLY on my terms. Over the last 14 years, I lost the man I thought I was... but Thank God I’m finding him again. I’m ready to reignite my fire. I’m ready to be the wrestler I was meant to be, while being the father and the husband that my family deserves. Now it’s my turn and I’m going to rise. So y’all better watch the hell out. Special thanks to @mauricio_jc0509 with @visualfirst_production for your time and dedication to this project. Thank you to Matt Mullins with @thebringdowns for my amazing new entrance music. Thank you to @latitude35cf for allowing us to use your space and kicking my ass into top shape over the last 90 days. Thanks to my wife @prettymotherpuckers for always having my back, even when I didn’t make it easy. My mom @ddtsrt for being my biggest fan. Apparently the filming for the Swamp Fight match for tomorrow's Extreme Rules took around 6-7 hours to complete and part of the match was inspired by the Friday the 13th horror series, according to WrestlingInc.

Besides Style, they also claimed Heyman kept lying about his big plans and promises for the group and also played a big role in their releases since he provided the list of RAW talent to Vince to get rid of.

Also both had some bad blood with Triple H over him also lying about things in order to get them to resign with WWE instead of leaving earlier for NJPW or AEW.

They also talked about the AEW VPs having a sook because they didn't sign with them, but you conveniently left that out.

I'm going to watch this with audio, but it seems to be some sort of "chasing the dream" video for Slater, which is really good, but I HATE the idea of being able to see his dreams. Why not just make it like a documentary of him driving in his car and training?

Come on, Heath -- you know better.

If that's his wife, then good for him too.

I think Keith Lee should have vacated the NA Title after winning in NXT and Slater should have come in and entered a tournament that William Regal says he needs to win in order to get an NXT deal, because "this isn't a charity" or whatever. Slater can win the tournament and have a feel-good moment with a singles belt. Probably triple AEW in the demos.

Because it had nothing to do with topic of the bad blood between Heyman and Styles, Anderson, and Gallows. The stuff with Triple H was associated but more of him being a minor player to the Heyman beef.

No one was talking about that. They were talking about homegrown talent.

And what does that have to do with my original post about the new details regarding the backstage issues between Styles and Heyman?

The ol "Let's change the appearance to appear sorry/human" technique.

Considering she barely did anything of note in NXT, doubt her fortunes are going to change on the main roster.

Like her pairing with Aliyah was arguably the most notable thing she did in NXT and that got abruptly dropped after a while.

Apparently WWE's quiet call up of Vanessa Bourne to the main roster actually happened months ago but it was only discovered very recently which shows how much WWE actually cared about it.

Same for her situation being similar to Riddick Moss in regards to how sudden her promotion was and why it was done.

Fightful was told that Borne was actually called up as far back as January or February, which explains why she hasn't appeared on NXT at all since then. However, she's still not made her main roster debut.

Borne has been awaiting her debut, but moved, and hasn't been flown back in regularly since then. Borne's situation was compared to that of Riddick Moss, who had a deal coming up, and then was promoted to the main roster upon re-signing.

Since all this has unfolded, there have been major shifts in WWE, and we aren't sure of her status as of now or where she was to land.

Since running this story, we've been told that there haven't been any firm creative plans along the way for her. Chelsea Green and Dominik Dijakovic were both reportedly called up, but haven't appeared on the main roster yet, either. Dijakovic has since returned to NXT.

Outside of a few rare occasions, WWE's call-up system has been a big mess for years.

According to PWI, tonight is Kairi Sane's last day with WWE.

She's leaving for Japan after tonight's tapings which is covering tonight's and the July 27th episodes of RAW.

Emperor Smeat 07-20-2020 02:39 PM

Seems WWE might be experiencing another coronavirus outbreak at the PC or some other major thing suddenly popped up since WWE's taping plans for today have been delayed big time.

There is a belief among some we have spoken to that the re-writes are due to talents originally written into the show no longer being available to perform but PWInsider.com has been unable to 100% verify that is correct. It is entirely possible the poor reaction to Extreme Rules led to changes in direction. The show received one of the worst post-show poll responses in recent memory here on the site.

WWE is slated to tape tonight's episode as well as next week's episodes of Monday Night Raw and Raw Talk as well as Main Event episodes today.

The Boom periods were always because of cultural movements that wrestling could easily take advantage of.

Fignuts 07-21-2020 12:14 AM

I wouldn't say it will never happen again, because you never know where we'll go as a people.

That said it's not going to happen any time soon because have you seen our culture lately?

Could make a very strong case that there should have been a boom in the mid-2000s and the reason it didn't happen was due to Vince and WWE's stubbornness over adapting to what was causing it.

When Spike TV bought the tv rights to RAW, they used WWE's high profile at the time to help boost the profile of their smaller UFC property under the correct assumption that wrestling fans could become MMA fans as well.

Once that plan started to bear fruit and UFC took off in mainstream popularity, Vince and WWE failed to both recognize and latch onto it since they saw MMA as nothing more than a fad. The failure of doing that ended up leading to a big shift of wrestling fans moving away from wrestling and into MMA with the repercussions of it lasting to this day.

Within wrestling, ROH guessed right that the future of wrestling would shift more towards work rate for popularity but because they never could seriously challenge WWE, only way a new boom would actually happen is if WWE also recognized it. WWE failed to do so because of Vince's stubbornness over adapting to the changing wind in wrestling post-Attitude Era.

Tom Guycott 07-21-2020 01:20 AM

That same argument could be applied to the "Ryder Revolution". Whatever your feelings about him were/are, he was mad over and did it himself at essentially the dawn of social media. He was the right guy in the right place at the right time, and WWE just said "nah".

I will always liken it to an alternate timeline where Austin cut his infamous Austin 3:16 promo, and then in spite of all of the crowd signs and subsequent pops, Vince just wasn't feeling it, and didn't capitalize with the shirts and a push. Instead, he just randomly shows up in backstage segments at catering and does the occasional job on Jakked/Metal/Shotgun.

They were stubborn on getting behind a guy they saw little value in, and then almost insultingly, tried to use what he did to create their own less successful knockoff and back their own social media platform just a tad too late on that party. Basically, they dropped the ball twice there.

Mr. Nerfect 07-21-2020 01:41 AM

Zack Ryder was shit though.

Mr. Nerfect 07-21-2020 01:43 AM

Wrestling could have not gone down the slope it did, and it could have enjoyed little pockets of slightly increased popularity, but it was always going to get real cold after Austin shook Vince's hand. And the decisions they made -- namely to promote Cena so hard -- has allowed Vince to become richer than ever before without anyone that can hold a candle to him.

Vince "won" wrestling. Unless another billionaire comes along or The Rock decides to start his own promotion, you'll need Vince McMahon's empire to make you whatever passes as a star in wrestling.

Yeah, WWE's pettiness over Ryder's rise in popularity via social media was just another instance of their stubbornness to adapt to the changes in wrestling until it was unavoidable.

They'd latch onto social media afterwards but instead of making it feel organic or special like Ryder did, it quickly became just another cog in the WWE machine.

Even moments like Fandango's dance and Bryan's YES! chants becoming sudden crazes outside of wrestling ended up being quickly wasted by WWE.

Objectively, so was Hogan. Precisely why I added the portion about how any reader may feel about him personally. He wasn't the greatest, and neither was one of the biggest stars in the entire history of the whole goddamn company and arguably the industry.

He didn't have to be Ric Flair or anything. And my Austin comparison isn't 1:1 for talent, just circumstance. You can't deny that Zack Ryder tapped into something far bigger than himself in the exact perfect moment in time, and WWE not only just rode right past it until the iron nearly completely cooled, but then tried to blatantly counterfeit it and nobody bought in.

Mr. Nerfect 07-21-2020 04:48 AM

I know you’re not saying it’s 1:1, but it’s not even close. Hulk Hogan had charisma for days and was a phenomenal worker. Amazing at selling and emoting. Zack Ryder couldn’t talk, couldn’t work and got over as a meme. When they tried to push him even a little bit, it was awful. Remember that promo he cut on Raw after winning the US Title?

Outside of being carried by Christian, has he even had a great match?

Mr. Nerfect 07-21-2020 04:49 AM

Fandango, on the other hand, is the biggest missed opportunity in the history of the business.

Apparently WWE actually considered a potential Asuka vs. Natalya match for the RAW Women's Championship at SummerSlam.

Rumor going around the net is WWE's original plan was Asuka vs. Charlotte before that got dropped due to Charlotte needing boob fixing surgery.

Plan B was Asuka vs. Natalya before that also got dropped due to Natty currently doesn't feel comfortable working due to coronavirus related issues.

Plan C at the moment is Asuka vs. Shayna Baszler for the belt.

Rumor going around the net is that both FOX and USA Network have grown upset with WWE's sluggish ratings in recent times and are losing patience with WWE.

Vince's response is rumored to be him not really caring despite others in the company becoming very worried.

When WWE announced that Big Show vs. Randy Orton would be taking place on Raw last night and not at Extreme Rules, it was reported that this was in an attempt to boost viewership for the show.

As such, many people speculated that Vince McMahon would be incredibly unhappy with the falling TV ratings. However, a recent report indicates that, interestingly, that’s not the case.

WrestlingNews.co is reporting that Vince McMahon is not worried by the falling WWE TV ratings, and reportedly neither are the USA Network and FOX. Here’s what the site said on the matter:

“While some people in the people worry that the numbers could continue to drop, Vince McMahon has shrugged off the low numbers. WrestlingNews.co was told that McMahon feels that the numbers will get back over 2 million viewers after SummerSlam because he believes that fans will be back at shows by September.

“A WWE source said, “Vince is doing what he can by putting on PPV matches on Raw and SmackDown but USA and Fox are happy and everyone knows things will get better when we can get some people back at arenas. This is what he thinks right now and he’s not sweating these numbers.”

WWE initially reportedly had plans to have fans back into shows THIS MONTH. However, those plans have obviously been postponed. It will be interesting to see if/how Vince McMahon’s response to the ratings changes if fans are not back into shows by September.

The site is reporting that both the USA Network and FOX have ‘lost patience’ with the company, likely over the falling ratings. They also note that people within WWE are worried about declining ratings.

“While speaking to a source recently it was disclosed to us that WWE is feeling the pressure regarding their sinking ratings. “Sh*t runs downhill,” which makes for a very stressful work environment as some executives are taking frustrations out on anyone that they can under them. There is a lot of eggshell walking right now

“Ringside News has learned “the story that FOX and USA Network are okay with waiting for people to come back into arenas is bullsh*t.” It was previously thought that bringing fans back to arenas will encourage more viewers at home. We were told that they have lost patience with those low numbers.”

Here’s what Ringside News founder Steve Carrier had on say on Twitter about the report:

“We were told that stories about Fox and USA being patient with WWE are bullshit. They are not only really concerned about these ratings, but they are also worried about how the NFL will do more damage”.

It is important to note that Ringside News does say that neither FOX or the USA Network are reportedly considering dropping SmackDown or Raw respecitvely from their networks. They are just losing patience with the company.

Also starting in mid-August, FS1 won't be airing WWE programming on Tuesdays due to MLB. The network's statement to Post Wrestling did not mention if WWE programming would resume after this year's MLB Playoffs ended.

Nothing major and when they did have shows pulling in good numbers, not enough of them to put any real pressure on WWE. WWE still holds a big advantage of providing consistent 52-week shows per year compared to popular regular shows taking lengthy breaks in between seasons.

FOX is in a similar situation even though they also have a long time rep of not being shy when it comes to pulling the plug on under performing or expensive shows. The year before SD's arrival, FOX had a kids cooking contest show that was pulling in 3-4+ million weekly but only lasted for a few months at a time since it was seasonal.

There are also other factors besides ratings that contribute to both WWE's advantages and disadvantages with both networks.

Outside of being carried by Christian, has he even had a great match?

Nope. Not really. Then again, he never really got the chance to have one. Which is part of my overall point. We have no idea how he may have progressed if the machine actually got behind him and not one half-assed, late-to-the-party midcard title run or an angle where the payoff was to make him look like a complete asshole loser nobody should care about.

Remember, Vince is the same guy who even publicly admitted that he didn't see anything of value in one of his last great golden geese in John Cena. And if he decided to never pull that trigger, this conversation or some like it would likely be listing him as a failure of "all body, no substance". And even there, he didn't become the T-shirt moving company man overnight. It took YEARS and sustainability, not jobbing out in random matches on shows nobody watched once a month with him just walking by on someone else's backstage and spending the rest of his time going from city to city to be not booked.

Again, you personally didn't think much of Ryder. Fair enough. You look at him in nearly the same light I still see Keith Lee- whereas I can't deny the guy is over, but I personally still can only see him as one of the two schlub ex-football players as a tag team in ROH (the other guy was Shane Taylor, who's still there). He is a better talker than Shane, but just strikes me as a generic "big man" in a sea of "big men". I'm not creaming my pants over him. But he obviously has something I don't see, because he was getting reaction when crowds were real, and he seems like he should tick all the boxes for the Vinnie Mac approval checklist.

We don't know what could have been for Zack if he actually had gotten a fair shake while he was hot.

As for Fandango, I agree that was another dropped boat. Different way, though. Like, they seemed to think the whole reason he caught on was the dumbass song and not because he was talented. And even later when the Fashion Police started breathing new life into his and Tyler Breeze's careers, they got pushed to backstage segments (which were still getting huge pops), and then shuffled THAT off to "internet exclusive" territory. You basically had to go out of your way to watch one of the more talented and popular acts of the time. Almost as shameful as TNA's treatment of MCMG when they were the hottest tag team the company had in spite of barely being on TV.

She's obviously going to have a bunch of speechwriters help her say absolutely nothing (which is smart, because at least she won't incriminate herself).

But I'm reallllllly hoping for a classic Stephanie blunder, like the time she equated 9/11 to the steroid trial.

#1-norm-fan 07-22-2020 10:17 AM

If the McMahon family is as good at hiring speech writers and having self-awareness as they are at hiring wrestling writers and having self-awareness then I expect her to just walk up to the podium, say “nigger” 100 times in a row and then walk off stage thinking “That was such good shit”.

I used to love Val Venis. Probably because I wanted an "other" so bad and I enjoyed his player/coach work in Sunday Night Heat more than Raw or SmackDown most weeks. And I remember reading an article that was right into that specific heel run where they pointed out he wasn't quite like the other Right to Censor members.

I think they could have pushed the Right to Censor out. In retrospect, it would have been nice to see the RTC make a Judgment Day PPV. But I do seem to remember people being ready for them to end at the time.

Bull Buchanan and D'Lo Brown were a tag team in All Japan for a while. They were part of a faction led by Taka Michinoku with Mike Awesome. Umaga, Rico Constantino and Justin Credible were also in there for a while. If they were around today, they'd probably be as over as The Bullet Club, haha.

According to ESPN, current MLW Heavyweight champion Jacob Fatu is staying in MLW for the foreseeable future.

He recently signed a new deal with the company locking him up until 2025. Also his new deal has similar terms as other recent deals offered by MLW where talent are allowed to take outside bookings except if it involves WWE and AEW.

MLW managing to sign several new tv and distribution deals during this on-going coronavirus pandemic has been a huge blessing for them.

PWInsider added that the original MLW deals only prevented talents from working with WWE. With the emergence of All Elite Wrestling, contracts have been restructured to become more exclusive. JBL would be my pick because of how brutal his Clothesline from Hell looked at times but Stan Hansen also had some really good and brutal looking lariats.

If there is one thing I've liked about modern clotheslines/lariats is the little spin most guys do after taking it. Helps make the move look even more devastating.

JBL would be my pick because of how brutal his Clothesline from Hell looked at times but Stan Hansen also had some really good and brutal looking lariats.

JBL hands down. Stan Hansen is in my top 5 favourites, but JBL had the best.

Never really liked JBL but this is a no brainer. JBL by a wide margin.

You also have to put Rick Steiner in there, somewhere.

I think JBL’s hits harder, but he also hits it very clean. I like Hansen’s more because he’s kinda sloppy which actually ends up making it look even more brutal.

Like there’s only so much you can protect someone when you’re blasting the ever living fuck out of them with a lariat, and I feel like JBL at least tries. Hansen can’t even see shit so he just swings for the fences.

You know who had an awesome clothesline: Hercules

I gotta find an example

Oh here we go, his match vs Foley. Around the 1:55 mark

Bad News Gertner 07-23-2020 07:55 PM

One more at around the 2:10 mark. The whole match is great. PowerPlex baby!

Hercule's roid belly is out of control by the Power and Glory days.

They were a great team.

Xavier Woods' computer crashed during he and Tyler Breeze's Battle of the Brands SmackDown vs. Raw 2006 GM Mode livestream, completely wiping out all of the current roster CAWs he'd spent months creating and ranking up, as well as the GM Mode file itself.
