Godfall was my first PS5 game at launch.

The reason you haven't heard about it was because it was pretty universally considered to be trash.

That said, I thought it was OK. But just OK.

drave 11-14-2022 10:19 AM

Hmmmm, not going to watch//read reviews right now as I just want to "experience" whatever is thrown my way.

So far though, it's a pretty good looter chase game.

Without reading//watching, I'm sure the complaints are:

* Not enough content
* Too much of the same grindy stuff
* More variety

and other such generic complaints that always hit 99% of looter chase games (like Diablo for example).

Got the game and expansion on sale for $40, so not terrible. If the endgame grind is too damn boring, I feel as though I have my monies worth already.

Ruien 11-14-2022 12:33 PM

I think it was just over hyped with expectations. I will pick it up though once I get a ps5.

Sepholio 11-14-2022 01:25 PM

Expansion helped it a lot is my understanding. The vanilla game was super thin in content. I never got back around to it to play the expansion though, other games had my attention by then.

Really, it seemed like one of those games where they cut a lot and kept it simple at the time in order to make the console launch. 6 more months of polish and padding out the content/endgame would have done WONDERS for it. But that can be said for a shit ton of games these days.

Sepholio 11-14-2022 01:27 PM

And yeah it was definitely WAY overhyped as it was, if I recall, the ONLY new exclusive game at launch this generation. Every other exclusive and launch title was already available on the last gen consoles.

drave 11-14-2022 01:28 PM

I don't own a Playstation, maybe that's why I never heard of it.

Oh well. It's mindless fun for the time being, and I can PAUSE the fucking game (for now)

Sepholio 11-14-2022 01:33 PM

Oh yeah, that would explain why you hadn't heard of it for sure. It was exclusive to PS5 (and PC, but games really get lost in the shuffle there) for like the first 18 months. By the time it came out on Xbox there was not nearly as much attention on it.

Sepholio 11-14-2022 01:36 PM

The only reason I even knew about it and was hyped for it was its status as the lone PS5 exclusive at the time. I wanted something to show me what my shiny new console could do and it was the only thing available. I played the absolute shit out of it that first 6 weeks until I got Immortals: Fenyx Rising and AC: Valhalla for Christmas.

Currently playing Microsoft Minesweeper..... Expert mode 30x16 board, 8 spaces to go, 4 mines left.... near as I can tell there is no logical way to find out where the mine is... essentially have 4 50/50 chances.... Well, I guess 3.... one of them if I pick right would help me find one..... nothing to do now but just go for it....

Phew... chose right, 2 mines left.... but now it is legit two 50/50 percent chance.... Can I get lucky two times in a row....

The answer is no... RIP Lock Jaw.... died on the last two mines in a minefield....

Fignuts 11-14-2022 07:09 PM

Bunch of dlc has come out for Dead Cells since I last played, so i'm gonna fire that up and get my ass kicked.

Sepholio 11-15-2022 11:41 AM

fuuuuuck finally beat Shiva in SMT5. What a monstrosity. Took me almost an hour on my 5th or 6th try with a pretty damn gangster squad. My item stash though :'(

Sepholio 11-15-2022 11:42 AM

I've no idea how I'm gonna beat the demi-fiend though. That guy waxes me on like turn 2 or 3 at most.

drave 11-15-2022 01:18 PM

If the OG game ended when you kill Macros, yeah, short AF. Did that last night. Fun fight though, took me 3 attempts with a greatsword and hammer.

The soulflame stuff is fucking cool though. Dude came in and just fucked up seventh sanctum like it was a gnat. Looking forward to the new shit

FUCK the demi-fiend. Fuck him right in his stupid anus.

Destor 11-15-2022 02:44 PM

The demofiend is a bad fight. Its not a fight its a puzzle and its stupid

Sepholio 11-15-2022 03:43 PM

When that mealy-mouthed sumbitch full healed half way through the battle I almost threw my controller through the screen.

Destor 11-15-2022 06:18 PM

Yeah its trash. There's basically and exact strat you have to suss out of the fight essentially resets.

Sepholio 11-16-2022 04:10 AM

I finally beat it but yeah, required 10x the strategizing that other fights (including Shiva) did. Farmed some essences to increase by resistances, primarily for the mobs he summons and grimoires to max my party levels. Resists don't seem to matter with the demi-fiend itself because it'll either use almighty attacks or put impaler buff on to negate your resists before hand. I tried to ignore the adds so they would bounce attacks off me and end the enemy turn faster and only really focused on taking out any healers/buffers he summoned. Had someone to dispel debuffs and apply buffs and 2 people at all times to be able to cast full party heal and use mana pots on each other. Made sure to have a whittled goat item and enduring soul on everyone for the auto save/full heals in case he did some dumbass move that would wipe everyone. Finally got it handled with Main, Shiva, Vishnu and Sandalphon, popping Baal in when someone died.

Sepholio 11-16-2022 04:13 AM

Immediately fused his essence in for the cheater ass skills he has, ie Gaeas Rage and that one almighty AOE attack as well primarily. Went back and whacked him again with the same strategy after that and then fuses his essence again for the resists to everything except almighty.

I considered farming him a few more times to give everyone those resists but fuck that, I don't feel like doing that grindy ass battle any more after the first 2 times.

Sepholio 11-17-2022 06:25 AM

Was talking to a friend of mine last night about how much we love old school turn based jrpgs. He plays a lot of little niche titles that I would never know existed usually, so now that I have beaten SMT5, I asked him for a recommendation for a game to play. He told me to get this specific game and I didn't even bother to look it up, just went and downloaded it.

It took all of 2 minutes before I realized I had done fucked up. He had me download a gotdamn eroge game. So of course I ask him for a serious recommendation and he swears to me it's a good game and to just give it a chance. So I'm thinking OK, maybe it's not that bad and I keep going a bit. I'm already banging big titty party members by the first town. What in the actual fuck? This is a whole ass genre of game too. So confused. I find it absolutely hilarious because of the super crude hornyposting dialogue of the game. Kinda want to play it just to see how much weirder and hornier it gets. I dunno, feels dirty man.

It's called Evenicle for anyone else curious about how raunchy games can get lol

Sepholio 11-17-2022 06:27 AM

Should start a thread series along the lines of "Seph plays terrible games so you don't have to".

Sepholio 11-17-2022 09:58 AM

Holy shit this is terrible it has to be a joke I am dying please help me can't breathe omg lololololololololol

Sepholio 11-17-2022 12:14 PM

Destor I need your expertise. You are into the Trails series of games right? Where do I start with that? I think it's like 2 series or something, but do I need to play one of them first or are they independent of each other? I can't do this eroge shit and need something I haven't played before.

Destor 11-17-2022 08:41 PM

Trails is legit probably my fav series in all of gaming. Gimme a bit and i wi reply to this

Destor 11-17-2022 10:09 PM

There a 5 series in trails. They tell a narrative across their series but they absolutely tell a larger story and characters over lap heavily and it does assume you already know them. Here's the order chronologically:

The Sky Trilogy:

Trails in the Sky: First Chapter
Trails in the Sky: Second Chapter
Trails in the Sky: The Third

FC and SC were meant to be 1 game but it was decided it was too long so it was split into two. 3 has a mew protag (who was a party member in 2) but the gang is all here. This series is set in Liberal.

The Crossbell Duology:

Trails to Zero
Trails to Azure

This series is set in Crossbell and both games follow Llyod Bannings. Many characters from Sky appear as well as geopolitical ramifications of the events in Sky.

Cold Steele Saga:

Trails of Cold Steele 1
Trails of Cold Steele 2
Trails of Cold Steele 3
Trails of Cold Steele 4

Set in Erobonia. CS 1 and 2 stand alone pretty well for the most part. There are characters from past games, mostly Sky, but theyre all introduced like you dont know them. However CS 3 and 4 will essentially demand you play the past two series and pull from both Sky and Crossbell fully without any regard for the players past experience.

Trails of Reverie

Not yet released in the states. This coming fall. It closes out the previous 3 arcs (the 1st half of the Legend of Heroes.)

The 1st 2 games of the 2nd half of Legend of Heroes are out in Japan and are coming but the localization lags about 2 years. Should have a similar number og games in the 2nd half.

I would recommend 1 of 2 starting points. Either at the beginning with Sky or with Cold Steele 1. If a psp port is fine by you sky is a wonderful game. Estelle Bright is easily my favorite JRPG protag of all time. If you want something more modern with the QOL youd expect from a modern game start with CS1 and 2. If you're on board with what the Legend of Heroes offers after CS2 go back and play the full series.

Fair warning its on the easy side so dont be afraid of higher difficulty settings.

As to what trails is its a series that focuses heavily on characters and world building. Each npc in every town has a name. If you speak to them they will say things unique to them and they perspective. In nearly all cases you can actually speak to them twice per chapter and get unique dialogue and sometimes a third time. These people have lives. The npcs that is. Over the course of the game and games these peoples lives will become fleshed out. That all is of course fully optional. But that level of depth is there if you want it.

The primary narrative in a trails game is back loaded so be aware that the major moments are always in the back 90%. You spend most of a trails game exploring the country its set in and learning about its lore while small details are put in place. Then shit escalates. The more you pay attention the more you get out of it. The broad strokes though are outstanding and the core gameplay i really enjoy.

So sorry to hear that man. I’m sure it won’t be inexpensive to replace. This has got to be the saddest death since Chris Jericho killed Dean Ambrose’s Mitch the plant. :'(

Fignuts 11-19-2022 01:46 AM

Started playing The Ascent. Fun little twin stick shooter, with rpg elements. Really well designed cyberpunk world. Was shocked at how good it looks, frankly.

Sepholio 11-19-2022 09:53 AM

yeah but its not the same and I'm so pissed at this other thing I won't even bother playing shit until I fix this.

Oh shit I might have got the beast working again 8======D~~~~~~

Sepholio 11-19-2022 01:40 PM

Yep, up and running albeit with the memory speed turned down for more stable voltage. Gonna let it ride a couple days first to check for stability before I start in on the games again though so I don't waste time and lose all my progress on everything again.

So fucking happy I had just finished SMT5. Would have been pissed af if all this happened before I fought the final boss.

Destor 11-19-2022 06:51 PM

YASSSSSSSSS

Ruien 11-19-2022 08:53 PM

Playing the new Pokemon. Such a great game. They got rid of the mindless grinding for hours with instant battles that give exp. Makes traveling and leveling up so much quicker and enjoyable.

Evil Vito 11-30-2022 09:08 AM

Most of this year I've been having a blast playing 7 Days to Die with my buddy a couple of nights a week. Gives us a chance to catch up with one another but also just seeing our skills and base improve over time is rewarding.

We started the game by taking over some three story building to use as our base and now have been gradually making improvements. Added an extra story, a mining shaft, and are now working on a full-blown underground garage.
Most importantly, constantly fortifying the base as we got incredibly close to dying in the last horde night we did when they found the one weakness in the base we didn't account for.

He and his wife are expecting their first baby sometime in late January so I suspect our gaming nights will be coming to an end for a while, so I'm just enjoying it while I can.

drave 11-30-2022 09:40 AM

WWE2k22 is on sale (on Xbox at least) for about $20.

Glad I waited, as I still wouldn't shell out $70, but it is a MASSIVE improvement on previous versions. If you've played before though, put the difficulty on hard at least, or every match will be a squash match.

I was fighting Kofi last night with my CAW in MyRise mode. Was stomping him, had my signature and finisher ready. This fucker does ONE COUNTER, follows up with a few moves, taunt and then the god damn BOOM drop.

I'm stunned, can't counter, and then the Trouble In Paradise. (as I read that, how did the new day never do a joke about "just the TIP")??

He fucking won, in a match that was about ~5 mins, and outta nowhere in some shit that could have actually played out on TV.

I'd give it an 8/10

Sepholio 11-30-2022 06:40 PM

Soccer Story. Attempting to be Golf Story with soccer, but made by a diff company. Its charming in the same way Golf Story was, but isn't as good as its inspiration, and is currently suffering from several game breaking bugs. I already know I've activated one of the bugs on my file and will eventually have my progress halted once the story directs me to the NPC who won't talk to me now because of the bug. They are aware of the issues though and already working to drop a patch, so hopefully it won't take too long.

Game is free on game pass rn so if you have access to that it's def one to keep in mind if you liked GS at all.

Heads up though: the actual soccer is not going to play the way a typical soccer sim does. Not even close. It's 5v5 and powers come into play eventually. It's going to seem really hard at first when you actually try to play the game like you would normally, but once you figure out what you need to do it becomes kinda simple. And the 1v1 (actually 2v2 counting the goalie, but the game says 1v1) matches are extremely easy regardless and if you lose one of those you suck at games and should never play anything ever again.

Destor 11-30-2022 07:56 PM

I cant help but notice that soccor story is not trails

Waiting on approval from a site to get the PSP games because i forgot my access credentials that were autosaved on my PC before I lost everything. Taking them forever and it's annoying.

Sepholio 12-01-2022 09:45 PM

Destor 12-01-2022 09:46 PM

Theyre on steam

Sepholio 12-01-2022 09:48 PM

Oooooh humble running a 50% off sale that conveniently ends in 15 hours.

Sepholio 12-01-2022 09:54 PM

of course I just learned that the source i was speaking of was nuked by nintendo because they had pokemons early

Destor 12-01-2022 09:57 PM

Legit ports and very good ones

Sepholio 12-01-2022 10:12 PM

indeed. I always worry about that because I've bought some SHITTY ports of old PC games via steam before and its left a bad taste in my mouth. Its why I tend to go back to OG console/portable versions more often.

Sepholio 12-01-2022 10:23 PM

got the game downloading, will start tomorrow when i wake up

Sepholio 12-01-2022 10:26 PM

Might start it tonight honestly because its not a huge file. I hope it doesnt have one of those openings where it takes like 2 hours to get to the first save lol

Sepholio 12-01-2022 10:32 PM

Its safe to skip the original legend of heroes games (dragon slayer, etc) right?

Destor 12-01-2022 10:33 PM

They are most likely not canon. Nayuta might be canon since theyre re-releasing it this year but how its canon is unknown. But yes the previous legend of heroes titles are non canon.

Sepholio 12-01-2022 10:34 PM

I like narrative heavy games and save anywhere is the best QoL invention ever in games.

Good. Was considering the playstation remakes instead of the OG ones on that front for the first 2 games. If I like these I'll prob get back around to them anyways though, just wanted to make sure I didn't need to at least read a synopsis to fill in things that I needed to know.

Sepholio 12-01-2022 10:37 PM

yo there is a ys vs trails fighting game i might have to try that out too haha love y's. Didnt learn about it until the psp but from then on I was on those games and any of the remakes of older ones they released.

Destor 12-01-2022 10:44 PM

Yeah Ys and Trails are the same company. Falcom.

Destor 12-01-2022 10:46 PM

I really hope you dig it. Im trying not to oversell it but i love the series.

Sepholio 12-05-2022 10:06 PM

Liking it so far but the story hasn't really taken off much yet. Part of that hold up is my incessant need to do some early grinding and this game seems like it very much discourages grinding in that the diminishing returns are super real. I have never seen exp drop off so hard.

Fignuts 12-06-2022 06:07 PM

Jumped back into Destiny 2 briefly. I can wait for a while since Fignuts' assessment of the new season is fairly accurate. Let a few weeks build up then I'll have something to do.

Bought the Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut/Add-on during Black Friday. I think I'll reinstall, upgrade to PS5 version and see what Iki Island has to offer.

I need to play it through again. Only completed it once. It is a very deep game that does not respect your time. In this instance, that is a great thing!

Be prepared for a challenge as well (unless you put it on easy diff). Witcher contracts are engaging fights that do require preparation, unless you just overlevel yourself.

It's one of the best turn based JRPG's I've ever played man.

The break system is perfect, and makes you have to think about your next turn moreso than any other turn-based rpg.

Was almost to Zeiss and I dunno what happened but my save got corrupted. Had to go back several hours because I wasn't making a full slate of alternate saves like I should. Ah well, lesson learned. Almost back there now. Just finished the questline with the mayor/orphanage again and am cleaning up a couple things before setting off to Zeiss again.

Love the battle system and the characters are endearing for the most part. Really my only gripes are that I feel like there should be a few more dungeons/locations and the game gets rather easy, especially if you over level at all. Story is kind of basic/slow so far but I can tell it's because it's setting itself up as a series in advance.

ClockShot 12-25-2022 05:40 PM

Finished the Iki Island expansion for Ghost of Tsushima.

Nice size island to explore with a solid story. But god damn was the subplot annoying as hell. The Sucker Punch team paying tribute to some of Playstation's other first party characters was a nice touch too.

Story is kind of basic/slow so far but I can tell it's because it's setting itself up as a series in advance.

the narratives are back loaded. The final 20% of a trails game is always a rollercoaster. Its just how it does it. If you get into the world and learning about the factions and society you'll find plenty to occupy yourself with but i totally wouldnt scoff at the criticism.

That said sky first chapter and second chapter were made as one game and deemed too long so its in a unique spot. Still the back leg of sky fc...its memorable to say the least.

I love Estelle and Joshua. Estelle Bright is hands down my favorite jrpg protagonist of all time. She's everything the world isnt but should be.

Trails games all get easier the more you play them to an extent that is pretty uncommon. I always recommend people not be afraid of the higher difficulties. Thats dependent on the person but if the individual has played an SMT for example then put it on nightmare. Youll be fine once youve cleared the opening and you can start customizing. Maybe not in Sky the 3rd. It can be really challenging at points.

Otherwise the series is def a bit too easy. Most of the fandom focuses more on "how hard can i fucking break this game." And that can fun. Especially in cold steele. Some fucking NUTTY builds.

I love the combat though. The arts and crafts system is great. The games only really flex on the losable fights. The series will frequently give you fights that you can lose but if you win there's great loot and/or lore. And those battles are as challenging as anything in the genre.

But trails is all about the characters and the mysteries. If those hook you youll be a fan for life. And those get better and better and better and better.

I just can't stop. I sit down deciding what to play and this feels like... "i need a lotta time so nah". But then I load it anyway and never regret it.

I'm doing Chapter 2 for Tessa right now. Need to level her a bit. Had a combo by the chapter boss which wiped the party. The game is good at letting you know when to level by pummeling you :D

Finally started up Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

This is gonna be weird, isn't it?

35 hours in. Just discovered the god damn job shrines I feel like I missed forever ago, thereby making the game harder than it should be, ha! Have them all now, and finishing up Chapter 2 for Alfie. Holy shit @ Primrose's story, game got dark AF reeeeeeeeeeal fast.

It's awesome, and feeeeeeels like a "new" game. Maybe it was the sound effects & world design, but it feels great.

I have a save file omw to Ganon, but I've not bothered picking it back up. Amazing game though. Kinda like Elden Ring, Zelda edition.

There are games where you can literally feel the shitzillion dollars that went into making it. I don't think I've ever felt that as hard as I am right now while playing Ragnarok.

I was thinking "Why the fuck was Link on ice and thawed out to become Master Chief?" Literally.

Worried Nintendo might have ran out of scenarios for Zelda after all these years and they gotta start mooching off other games.

Wouldn't it be more like Elden Ring ripped off Zelda though?

Bayonetta 3
Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Bought both around the time they were released last year, played like one level each and then lost the urge to keep playing until late last month.

Feels like that habit got even worse for me in 2022 with the amount of games I bought and quickly dropped. Best might have been with Seikro where I reached the first real boss fight, got pounced off a cliff during the second attempt at it, and then lost all the urge to continue.

High On Life
Far Cry 6

Currently:
Lego Star Wars Skywalker saga.

Sekiro is insanely unforgiving. I bought it on sale and think I got to the horse boss fight and noped outta there. The world getting harder as you get thrashed also sucked. I did give it 3-5 restarts to really try, as I enjoy FromSoftware games a bunch. This one though..... this one will take time I simply don't have.

Monster Hunter Rise launches on gamepass soon, that's gonna be fun!

Taking a break from Octopath. That game is fucking beefy! Started hearing battle music in my sleep, along with the menu "beeps". I've completed Chapter 2 for everyone, and 3 for a couple party members, around 42ish hours playtime.

solid 9.9/10

I passed 100 hours on it. Totally worth it. The true boss is my favorite boss fight of all time
