Who are you to doubt Hardbody Harrison?

Seanny One Ball 06-06-2020 07:45 PM

Watched KOTR 1996, now onto1994.

Ahmed nearly killed himself doing a dive into Goldust. He pretty much completely missed him, rolled onto the floor and just got up and carried right on.

I rewatched it several times in amazement.

Seanny One Ball 06-06-2020 08:07 PM

Art Donovan is funny as shit, just laughing and asking daft questions.
I've never seen this before.

Seanny One Ball 06-06-2020 08:10 PM

Ahahaha Bam Bam puts Razor in the torture rack and Art Donovan ignores everything they are saying to ask "What the Hell's he gonna do, throw him out of the ring?!"

I wish Art Donovan and Gorilla had been a team.
Just two mad old men saying crazy shit, getting each others names wrong.

Seanny One Ball 06-06-2020 08:23 PM

IRS comes out

Art: "Randy is this one of the wrestlers? He looks like... He looks like a businessman..."

Seanny One Ball 06-06-2020 08:27 PM

Mabel comes out in his robe, has been referenced by name several times and his weight numerous times.

Art: "Is this the way he's gonna wrestle? With his clothes on? What's his name?"

Two minutes later

"How much does he weigh? Who's the guy in the white suit?"

Seanny One Ball 06-06-2020 08:28 PM

Ahahaha

"Do you two guys enjoy doing this?"

Seanny One Ball 06-06-2020 08:28 PM

This is my new favourite PPV ever

Seanny One Ball 06-06-2020 08:38 PM

You know that thing where you drift off in class at school or in a group and then you drift back in and foolishly say something that has just been said by someone else and totally give yourself away?

That's Art Donovan watching wrestling.

I keep cracking up everything he asks how much someone weighs. Gorilla and Randy are pretty short with him now. It's freaking gold.

Seanny One Ball 06-06-2020 08:42 PM

Art: *mutters something unintelligible*
Gorilla: "I'm sorry Art I didn't hear you"
Randy: "That's okay!"

Then Randy just talks so Art can't

I had heard about this before but I didn't know when it happened. This is a joyous fluke.

Seanny One Ball 06-06-2020 09:00 PM

He asked if Shawn Michaels was one of the wrestlers.
I bet he asks how much Neidhardt and Diesel weigh. He hasn't yet but he has to.
I bet he does.

Seanny One Ball 06-06-2020 09:01 PM

Seems to wish Diesel was a football player.

Apparently the on-going Jeff Jarrett vs. Anthem lawsuit over ownership of GFW somehow is also going to include an official ruling on wrestling being legally considered as a sport or as purely entertainment and none of that sports entertainment nonsense WWE's been spewing for decades.

Quote:

Crenshaw also noted that whether the notion that professional wrestling is sport or entertainment for audiences has become the crux of one of Anthem’s claims for dismissal. One of the claims made against Anthem Wrestling by Jarrett and GFE is that the GFW Amped! Material being used violated The Tennessee Personal Rights Protection Act. Anthem has argued against this because sports broadcasts are exempt under Tennesee law.

Stating this “may be the most interesting genuine issue of material fact”, Crenshaw reviewed a number of previous legal cases that led to some sports stating professional wrestling falls under sport while others have decided it falls under entertainment.

As to where professional wrestling falls for this case, Crenshaw ruled:

“For its part, the Court has no hesitation in concluding that Greco-Roman wrestling – as reintroduced in Athens, Greece at the first modern Olympics in 1896, and as practiced by high school and college athletes in gymnasiums and auditoriums across the country – is a “sport.” Professional wrestling is different, of that there can be little doubt. Some of its mystery over the years has been due to professional wrestling’s penchant for “kayfabe”: In the world of wrestling, the portrayal of staged events as real – the suspension of disbelief that is central to the proceedings – is known as kayfabe. For decades, maintaining kayfabe was de rigueur: “babyfaces” (or “faces”) [good guys] and heels [villians] didn’t ride together or associate in public, and reporters got slapped for suggesting that wrestling was fake. The line between kayfabe and reality began to blur during pro wrestling’s popularity boom during the late ’90s, and these days – thanks to the omnipresence of social media, the sunshine of the internet, and the WWE’s forays into reality TV – kayfabe is effectively dead. While “kayfabe” may now be dead, the staged performances and elaborate personas are not. In fact Plaintiffs proclaim that “professional wrestling involves a script, a predetermined outcome, and ‘out-of-arena’ content that involves storytelling and drama” that is “akin to live action theatre where the audiences does not know the outcome of the event, but the actors and actresses do.” Whether that is the case, or whether professional wrestlers are “athletes engaging in highly dangerous feats of athletic display” as Anthem Wrestling contends for the jury to decide.”

So, the jury will decide, at least for the scope of the lawsuit, whether professional wrestling is sport or entertainment.

Man, the way Debra tells the story, Steve was a bad, bad man in those days. Hard to reconcile because I love Austin.

And he somehow just made it all go away.

The way I've heard her tell the story is it was ongoing, and he pretty much treated her like she was his prisoner. Similar to Savage and Liz, except more fucked up and violent.

In fact, the more you think about it, Austin - at that time - had similar energy to the Macho Man. Very intense, chaotic, and tightly wound. It all kind of adds up.

Been like that since the start of the year and probably Triple H's idea if I had to guess. Basis of the idea revolves around making the NXT brand feel equal to RAW and Smackdown in terms of PPV events being on a Sunday.

XL 06-07-2020 02:59 PM

Fuck that. Saturday shows for NXT made them feel different/special.

Emperor Smeat 06-07-2020 03:08 PM

Yeah. Ever since WWE started making a bunch of changes to NXT in response to AEW, the brand has lost a lot of that special luster it used to have.

Saturdays are now mostly reserved for big WWE Network specials that are not TakeOver shows. Probably would have had another big special on the Network yesterday if it wasn't for the coronavirus.

The Nexus was formed one decade ago today.

One of the best segments ever.

Evil Vito 06-07-2020 11:15 PM

I remember the outrage here, myself included, when Bryan got released abruptly.

In hindsight probably a blessing in disguise to not have him saddled into that angle as it gave him a little bit of extra buzz when he returned. But had he stuck around I think his endgame would've been similar. He would've been the ring general for the Nexus for a few months and probably would've been the one to get over as a result, and therefore the first one to turn face and leave the group anyway.

The wedding segment was the worst out of that whole infidelity and marriage storyline. Not only did the segment just drag on, it led to one of the dumbest or most useless swerves ever in WWE with Liv Morgan.

Completely undid all the vignettes they were doing for Liv's return for a trash tv like moment and led to nothing in the end because of Rusev's contract dispute and nobody wanting to see an actual feud between Lana and Liv.

Very good for MLW but at the same time a bit surprised DAZN made a new deal since supposedly they had been withholding payments to companies once the coronavirus started to make a big negative impact on sporting events.

Plus DAZN having some serious money issues in recent months because of the coronavirus.

Emperor Smeat 06-10-2020 07:08 PM

Bit surprised they didn't go with one of the Gargano vs. Ciampa matches considering how much WWE and NXT gushes over that rivalry.

If they wanted to include a token NXT match from the men's side, Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura would have been a way stronger choice since its arguably the best NXT match of all-time.

Macho Man vs. Steamboat, Bret vs. Austin, and Punk vs. Cena as my choices.

Bret vs Austin, Bret vs Owen and Savage vs Steamboat

Considering only a small handful of people work as producers in NXT and one of them was recently involved in a social media incident involving a similar topic, I'd put all my money on this mystery person being Road Dogg.

Also would fit with him way more often than not putting his foot in his mouth whenever he discusses social issues and WWE's booking in general online.

Weird since Road Dogg is the greatest black wrestler in WWE history

I am in the midst of a Smackdown 2 campaign where my man Verne Gagne is 3rd rated Heavyweight contender and Road Dogg has beaten everyone twice. He has Undertaker every second week and beats him.

Test beat the entire RTC.

It is all kicking off

Well, she said she doesn’t need a title to be relevant...

I bought one of the Smackdown PS2 games at a Comic Con last year. It freezes during Week 3 of the season so I can't unlock anything.

Is anyone else annoyed that the IC title match is happening tomorrow night on SD instead of the ppv? It's almost like they know it'd overshadow the greatest wrestling match ever if they put it on the same show. I'm almost hoping a no contest or something so it does make the ppv instead of shoehorned into a 10 minute slot with commercials

Sepholio 06-11-2020 12:39 PM

I don't mind Charlotte winning belts and everything because she's really talented. But they should cool off on it a bit and stop doing it so often. Give us a break for awhile.

It's like when Randy Orton was racking up belts back in the day and everyone knew he was gonna be like a 25 time world champion eventually. Then they just stopped. And now it's been kinda whack that he hasn't had a meaningful title reign in years. I wanna say he has like 3 world title reigns for a total of like 4-5 months reign over the last decade. That's insane considering.

Sort of expecting that to happen. Or better yet, they do some storyline that results in neither Bryan or Styles being in the final.

XL 06-11-2020 01:22 PM

Wait. Robert Stone on NXT is Robbie E from TNA. How did I not notice this?

This ended up mine, but I really wanted to be HBK vs. Angle in there somewhere too.
