Wonder how much that cost for the shout out...

I hope there was a transaction involved. Otherwise the President is posting about wrestling in the middle of a worldwide crisis.

XL 04-26-2020 07:01 AM

I don’t think I’ll be telling anybody anything their didn’t already know but, the Network is not good.

I was thinking about the participants in the Cruiserweight and Mae Young Classics so used the search function to search for the shows. The 1st MY Classic is listed in there as Season 1, but not the 2nd season, although all of the matches are on there separately. Makes no sense.

#1-norm-fan 04-26-2020 10:22 AM

There are times where I think “Maybe I’m on the wrong side of the battle” when I long for pro wrestling to be more like it used to be.

But then something comes along to remind me that Trump and McMahon are firmly together on the other side of this battle and I instantly think “No. I’m definitely right.”

Buckle Bomb is whiplash waiting to happen at least and a spinal injury at worst, though considering Nia's past she can easily fuck up even simpler moves. Remember the shoulder breaker to Charlotte, she just dumped her on her head after the move.

Yeah I saw that the other day and winced. Not good.

XL 04-26-2020 01:11 PM

Question; is the search function on the forum faulty? I searched using a keyword and poster name but it’s giving me no results. When I search for posts by user it shows me results from 2013-2014.

Apparently Triple H's celebration segment on Smackdown originally was meant to be a lot shorter in length.

Would explain why it quickly unraveled and became an entertaining but very odd trainwreck to watch on tv.

Emperor Smeat 04-26-2020 08:30 PM

Apparently Jerry Lawler's reason for why he called one of Akira Tozawa's moves a "Ramen Noodle Moonsault" is just as dumb as when he mentioned it on RAW a couple weeks ago.

Basically Byron Saxton and Tom Phillps are to blame for not going along with his inappropriate gag and letting his dumb comment be exposed out in the open.

Quote:

On the April 13th edition of the show, Lawler was calling an Akira Tozawa-Austin Theory match with Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton when he referred to a Tozawa senton as a "Ramen noodle moonsault". The comment was later edited out of the Hulu edition of the show.

At the 53 minute mark, Lawler asked his co-host if he could address the elephant in the room about the comment and why being racist was "the furthest thing from his mind."

He said he was doing commentary in 2016 with Mauro Ranallo and given Ranallo's history with Japanese wrestling, he heard him call a move something that he figured was made up because he had never heard of it before. He said he later made up some names of what he thought would be funny moves to go back at Ranallo at when he called a move.

"I would say something like, "There’s the Ramen Noodle moonsault" and he would say, "Oh, King! You know there's no such thing!" and we would just go on. I was doing it just to play devil’s advocate with Mauro. If I were still doing commentary with Michael Cole or JR, we had the chemistry to where each one of those guys would have known that I was almost making a fool out of myself by claiming like I was acting like I knew what this unbelievable looking move was.

"Then either Cole or JR would have said ‘"Oh, King! You know better than that!" With Byron and Tom, we don’t have that chemistry yet. We have only been working together for a short time so when I said that, they didn’t even acknowledge it so it kind of went out and they just kept talking and I kept talking. I didn’t think anything about it either.”

Lawler and his co-host then intimated that the intent was that the joke was supposed to be on him for being behind the times.

"That’s where me, Bobby Heenan, Jesse Ventura...all of the heel commentators do that sort of stuff and the joke is on yourself that the people out there say, "Look at that idiot. He doesn’t even know what he’s talking about and he thinks he does.' That's where the joke was."

Lawler did not apologize for the comment and remains on the commentary team for Raw.

That quote function is all yours, though.

XL 04-27-2020 03:20 AM

So it’s Lawler’s colleagues fault that they didn’t want to draw attention to his racist commentary by addressing it on air? Nice one.

Droford 04-27-2020 03:24 AM

Heenan and Ventura wouldn't last an hour on commentary today #sadfacts

XL 04-27-2020 04:04 AM

Only they would because they’d be smart enough and talented enough to align to the standards on modern society and still remain hilarious. Lawler has largely been a one-trick pony on commentary which worked in the 90s but the company and society have moved on since then.

Tbf, back in the 80s there’s a strong chance that the actual move would have been called the Ramen Noodle Moonsault”.

Evil Vito 04-27-2020 08:11 AM

While I don't agree, there is a point to what Lawler's saying.

One of the go-to kneejerk responses when a joke like that gets made in wrestling is for people to say, "lol wot would u have done when jesse ventura and bobby heenan were around".

But the point is that Heenan was always a clown, and always presented as being wrong. You knew that if Heenan said something, you were supposed to disagree with it, and someone like Vince or Gorilla Monsoon would call him out on it.

But even if Lawler's trying to do that now, I couldn't tell you on a day-to-day basis if Jerry Lawler is supposed to be a clownish heel commentator or a beloved and respected babyface Hall of Famer. Without that consistency, that kind of joke can't land, even if you can handwave away the racism.

Anybody Thrilla 04-27-2020 08:46 AM

Lawler used to say some really awful things on commentary back in the day, but as someone pointed out, EVERYTHING he said was awful, and it was in alignment with his heel character. Today's Lawler just comes off as senile.

Jerry Lawler is a one trick pony but Bobby Heenan and Jesse Ventura were too talented to make the same mistakes now? They all had the same proclivity for saying outrageous things...

Jesse Ventura and Bobby Heenan wouldn't last five minutes today and you know it.

Personally I find Jerry Lawler to be the best of the bunch and I think wrestling heels should go for cheap heat as often as they can get a reaction with it.

Bring it back.

According to WWE, New Day is currently considered by them to be the greatest faction in WWE history.

Their main points were them holding tag records in company history and not changing as much as a group since their debut unlike other notable factions. Also because they had their own brand cereal.

Me too. It's one thing if the guy is a luchador. Like when Rey Fenix does it. But Jesus just say suicide dive. The worstis Excalibur because he uses the same inflection every. Single. Time.

"Topa suiciduuuuuuhhh"

They have a bunch of young talent in the PC but majority of them either are too raw or don't come from established indie backgrounds.

Outside of some exceptions, NXT stopped being an effective developmental system years ago and instead became just a place for Triple H and co. to hoard as much notable indie talent as possible.

Even when they do have notable young talent, they don't really do much with them because of the log jam of talent in the company. Austin Theory is only 22 years old but doesn't feel special and is just another guy because of how NXT and RAW has handled him. Deonna Purrazzo is another young talent that could have been a big star for NXT's women division but they did jack shit with her.

This is what happens when 1. you have too much talent and/or access to talent because you can pay them so well...and 2. it's even worse if you're so arrogant and/or stupid that you believe you can systematize everything, especially when you believe that you can and should teach and script all your talent to wrestle, promo, etc., the same way and style.

The result is you get a bunch of underdeveloped, bland, no talent, hacks who don't know how to actually do anything except what they're told to do. The especially don't know how to get themselves, their opponents, or their feuds or matches over with anyone with a functioning brain between the ages of 10 to 60 that isn't watching out of sheer habit or boredom.

Seems WWE might be even more worried about a potential coronavirus outbreak happening at their PC due to all the tapings held there the past few weeks.

Enacted new rules that are even more stricter than before in regards to what talent are allowed to do in the building.

The Performance Center is reportedly shut down for any kind of training right now, according to the report, indicating that other talents who are not there for TV can't just show up to work out as they normally would before the pandemic.

WWE talents that are brought to the Performance Center for tapings are reportedly spending most of their time outside of the building, and aren't hanging out inside. It was noted that talents are only allowed in for their match or segment, or other work, and then must go back out. They are also getting dressed in their gear outside of the normal area.

Learned this today.

A lot of Dan Severn's MMA wins were works. If you look at the names on his record it shows that he defeated Tyson Smith in Winning via tko at an Action Wrestling show.

Tyson Smith is of course Kenny Omega.

Seanny One Ball 04-30-2020 07:14 PM

I think somebody has been having fun with Wiki again.
Seems like a legitimate mistake but Kenny Omega isn't the Tyson Smith you are talking about.

https://m.sherdog.com/fighter/record/Tyson-Smith-22395

A few people have made this mistake. The real Tyson Smith actually has a lot in common with Kenny Omega because they both fight girls.

Seanny One Ball 04-30-2020 07:19 PM

I am doing a deep dive to drag up more info because I am finding claims that Omega says he fought Severn and Fulton.

Maybe the other Tyson Smith that wrestles women is the fraud...

I need to find out the truth.

Seanny One Ball 04-30-2020 07:28 PM

Hmmm, seems weird for a 160lbs guy to be wrestling women and Severns...
This is a weird coincidence but I think there may even be a third Tyson Smith.

I find it hard to believe Kenny Omega fought between 2005 and 2008 in at least 7 documented mma matches, especially since I can't find any pictures or footage so far.

Reddit says it's true, Wiki agrees but Sherdog ain't saying shit...

Seanny One Ball 04-30-2020 07:45 PM

I can find more to support the notion than not, but there is no real evidence of it. The MMA profiles match his wiki bio and age so it probably is him.
I'm going to go with it, seems like February 2007 was a wild month.

Kinda pissed that no mma forum has footage of any of this nor any pictures.

I wanted that to be real so bad lol

Seanny One Ball 04-30-2020 09:40 PM

I honestly think it might be.

I mean Tyson Smith has a few profiles on MMA sites and they all agree he is 36 from Winnipeg except that fucking weird one that wrestles women for cash. He is Canadian though...

It's infuriating because there isn't one picture of any of the events he fought on.
I literally went through a comprehensive list of Kenny Omega wrestling matches and cross checked the dates with the MMA matches just to see if he was busy elsewhere on any of those dates.
He wasn't.

It could be a mad coincidence or it could be true.

I kinda want it to be true now.

Seanny One Ball 04-30-2020 09:43 PM

Dude fought four times in February 2007 and twice in April 2007.
Two matches on two separate nights too.

This is the weirdest MMA record I have seen for ages.
