I'm trying to figure out if the certain allusions in the Supergirl pic is deliberate or not. I laughed when I seen it.

Have gone back and am now in the process of reading the rest of Swamp thing v2. Starting Nancy Collin's run now (#110).

Anyone have any experience using the DC app on a smartphone? Gave a single issue a whirl yesterday and I quite like the way it follows comics frame by frame. But is it actually worth using on a regular basis?

Note: aware you quite easily get comics in .cbr format etc through unofficial channels, but I hate reading them on a PC monitor.

Haven't kept up with the New 52 - is that the way Supergirl's costume always looks now? With the sharp angles in the "S", I thought it might be Bizarro Supergirl.

I will check them out. First two issues of Batman seem quite good as well.

Yeah, Batman is alright mainly due to the fact that it has barely been rebooted. Not as good as before Flashpoint, though.

Arkham Unhinged is amazing! It's basically the story between Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.

Read the first issues of Swamp Thing and Animal Man. Not really sure about Swamp Thing, but Animal Man seemed alright. Probably try another couple of each.

Newest edition of Young Justice hit the airwaves today. Holy Fuck it's awesome.

That's fine and all, but what I don't get (aside from the sales/PR bump for the next few issues) is why do they need to go into the characters love lives? Or at least change it up some. It seldom amounts to anything anyway except for use as some boring page filler and they usually end up in the same fashion with the guy saving the day, but losing the girl because he was late for a date.

Of course I was also opposed to Damien Wayne/the idea of Robin in general and Daken so what do I apparently know?

Although as I was thinking about this I doubt this is really a "iconic" character that they are relaunching. If it was they would likely be out already and aside from Captain Marvel and maybe the Manhunter or one of the lesser Green Lanterns they have pretty much brought out all of the "iconic" names I believe.

Well, this will certainly add credence to my long-standing theory that Aquaman is totally gay.

Does anyone actually like or dislike character based on what demographic they belong to? Do white fans only like Batman because he's white? Are Americans less likely to read Wolverine because he's Canadian? It drives me up the fucking wall that DC and Marvel both seem to think that they can sell comics about characters whose sole defining characteristic is what community they're supposed to represent.

And if they're trying to appeal to new audiences, then how hard is it to create a new character? But then, why bother coming up with a character whose personality and life experiences accurately reflect that particular walk of life, when you could just take an existing character, retcon their history out of existence, and exploit their name value as a cheap publicity stunt?


Also, ten bucks says it's one of the Green Lanterns.

I can see them going with Captain Marvel just for the Marvel is gay line.

UGH. I've come to like Capt Marvel lately. I don't want to see his backstory mangled.

Can't really think of an "major iconic" character that hasn't debuted yet.

Characters need love lives so supervillains can kill their partners by throwing them off bridges, stuffing them in fridges and what have you.

Pretty much agree with Nowhere Man. Always felt that way about certain characters being created specifically for certain demographics.

Yeah, it's a cheap little publicity stunt, but every gay person in the world isn't suddenly going to start buying DC Comics just because one character is gay.

Robocop's Peter Weller will be Batman in the animated film version of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.

Looking forward to this. I remember buying the book when it came out. Gonna be interesting to me if the gang Bruce takes under his wing will still look like wannabe Cyclopses.

Not a huge fan of Year One or Frank Miller- but The Dark Knight Returns should make for a more entertaining animated movie than Year One. I found it a bit boring.
