True. But you have to wonder WTF WWE were thinking, trying to cram a 2nd PPV into January. Maybe they thought doing both Cyber Sunday (2004) and the 2004 Survivor Series in November worked so well in a big 4 month that they'd try it in January 2005 as well.

Only real memorable moment (IMHO) from all 3 New Year's Revolution PPVs was at the end of the '06 show when Edge became the first man to cash in MitB, and after becoming the inaugural winner of the ladder match that previous spring of 2005 @ WM 21. Him toppling Cena was truly epic.

That's just because she doesn't bleed on her own anymore at her age. Don't get it twisted.

The angle, as expected, helped maintain the audience as there was less of an audience drop as the show went on as is typical of Raw. The return of John Cena also played a part in that.

The three hours were:

8 p.m. 3.70 million viewers
9 p.m. 3.49 million viewers
10 p.m. 3.43 million viewers

Monday was the final episode of Monday Night Football. With the exception of the 1/11 show, which goes against the college football championship game, Raw will now be free of its top competition, and ratings should rise about 10 percent from the level they have been if history is an indication.

In terms of weekly stuff, this week ended up being around 198k more viewers than the Slammys but 348k less than 2 weeks ago. In terms of the year, down by around 448k on average compared to 2014. In terms of hour/show rankings, 8pm was 4th and the best hour for the WWE this week.

In Balor’s case, there’s a lot of talk about how NXT is relying heavily on Balor to have big main event matches, with concern that he’s breaking down his body too much with the brand’s expanding touring schedule. Balor is thirty-four and with more touring expected this year, the worry is that NXT is supposed to get him ready to be able to make it to the main roster, not break him apart before he gets there.

As for Bayley, the feeling is that she’ll either be the biggest female star in WWE history or will flounder on the main roster, with no in-between. Some in the company see her as a female John Cena in terms of her ability to do charity work and bring in younger fans, particularly younger female fans. WWE has never had a strong audience among young girls outside of the few periods where they were strong across all demographics. There’s concern that any attempts to contrive situations on the main roster like the young superfan Izzy, which helped promote Bayley in a big way, could lead to a backlash.

There’s also talk that Bayley’s current character plays well as a “big sister” type for young fans to idolize, which has an inherent shelf life. If the company waits too long to pull the trigger she could outgrow that image.

So it’s very important to be able to sell those hours to better sponsors than what they have been able to in the past, particularly they need the perception of it being okay to sponsor to offset the audience decline. Cena got good reviews coming off of “Sisters,” where he plays a drug dealer. Regarding Cena, his ability to do comedy is being noticed in Hollywood, along with his look, and he’s probably going to get more offers. As expected since they are loading up on the first Smackdown show on the USA Network on 1/7 (taped 1/5 in Laredo), is that Cena will be on that show.

The problem is that the TV taped on 1/6 and 1/7 will air after the PPV, meaning they either give away title changes ahead of time, avoid using belts on champions for a few days at the tapings, or do a PPV where no belts change hands and no major storylines that have to be followed up on take place

Some other sheet news includes:
  • Outside of 1 match booked, Kurt Angle will be taking all of 2016 off from wrestling although won't make a decision on retirement until 2017. Wants at least one last appearance in the WWE and a possible retirement match with Daniel Bryan if possible. Think he's locked for the WWE Hall and likely for the 2017 class as the earliest possible.
  • Starting early next year, the WWE will change how it handles medical insurance with the biggest being them no longer as the sole provider. Everyone on the roster and those wishing to get hired needs to also have a separate provider by the time the new changes take effect.
  • According to the Observer, WWE could start announcing members of the 2017 Hall of Fame class as early as January 11th since ticket sales for the event starts on January 15th.
  • Also according to the Observer, Dana Brooke has been dealing with an injury recently with the WWE unwilling to reveal what it is. Could be a concussion based on recent past announcements of the injury type.
  • Rey Mysterio rumored to be unofficially staying with AAA once his current deal expires since his new Lucha Underground deal might also be tied to AAA.

Should just pull a page from NXT's book and either just not use those people or go with the no titles route.

Then again the same company recently thought it was a wise idea to give Matt Hardy the belt even though they knew full well it would ruin a portion of the pool of matches they taped months prior.

Dark One 01-01-2016 01:04 AM

It's just mind boggling how every time they're given "a new start," they immediately shit the bed.

The fact that this is a company that exists is a disservice to every decently run company in every industry in the history of the world.

Simple Fan 01-01-2016 01:06 AM

Who is the biggest "threat" to WWE now? ROH, TNA or CHW?

Damian Rey 01-01-2016 03:35 PM

NXT.

There's no threat. Nobody is going to compete with WWE at this point. The financial advantage is too great. Wcw only hung in the fight because they had a ridiculous amount of money to work with.

TNA, ROH, etc doesn't have that. It's a one man show as far where the big leagues are.

GD 01-01-2016 03:40 PM

I made use of the WWE Network and went back to watch Bayley versus Sasha. Got very emotional towards the end.

Simple Fan 01-01-2016 03:41 PM

I think its still TNA but its not as big of a threat as it had been 5 years ago. WWE is kind of attacking ROH because they know that that brand of wrestling is what NXT is trying to reach. ROH has alot of potential to take over TNA in that second spot but feel like they need to do bigger arenas that could at least fit 5000 people. TNA having a new start on a new channel again gives them a fresh start and I think they can do OK if they bring some fresh faces in and are creative. TNAs matches are pretty good most the time if the storylines could just line up they'd be OK I think.

ROH assuming the dirtsheets are correct about WWE using NXT as a proxy to fight them.

Supposedly its all due to an action figure of Kevin Steen/Owens that ROH managed to release before the WWE that started the "feud." WWE felt ROH was taking money away from them and supposedly have held a grudge since then.

Simple Fan 01-01-2016 05:04 PM

Yep, WWE doesn't like that ROH does shows during WM in the same area. ROH has a lot more potential than TNA in my opinion. Ring of Honor has some great talent and if they could keep WWE from poaching a lot of them they could grow a lot. I think Sinclair is really behind ROH and are slowly building the company and themselves. TNA has been in a downward spin since leaving Spike with EC3 being their only glimmer of light. I hope they can get going on POP but don't think POP will get what they are expecting. Really don't see TNA reaching 1 million viewers anymore but I hope I'm wrong.

#1-norm-fan 01-01-2016 05:05 PM

In order for anyone to compete with WWE, WWE needs to get better and bring in a new boom period for wrestling as a whole. Right now the business just doesn't bring in new fans so it doesn't matter if a company comes in and does everything right because there just aren't enough people who care about wrestling. Obviously, having an assload of financial backing wouldn't hurt either.

Simple Fan 01-01-2016 06:11 PM

Watching This is Impact. 1hour special that aired on POP today at 1. Had a good EC3 promo the rest is pretty much a yearly review.

WWE.com's Top 10 List of things they'd hope to see in 2016:

SPOILER: show
Quote:

10. Triple H wins the new Grand Slam by winning the U.S. Championship.

9. A Diva wins a male championship. (The staff suggested Sasha Banks winning The Intercontinental Championship)

8. A Superstar wins the Royal Rumble Match in his Rumble debut. (Some of the people mentioned by the staff are Kevin Owens, Neville, and Braun Strowman.)

7. Dean Ambrose breaks an Intercontinental Championship drought. (Ambrose WILL hold the Championship longer then 300 days, the first time that that was done since Honky Tonk Man's record breaking reign.)

6. A Hall of Fame Diva returns to the ring. (The three mentioned by the staff were Trish Stratus, Lita, and Alundra Blayze.)

5. The Undertaker competes in a Casket Match sometime in the year 2016.

4. A woman joins The Wyatt Family.

3. A WWE World Heavyweight Champion vs. NXT Champion match.

2. Roman Reigns teams up with The Rock. A tag team match with the two of them on one side will take place in 2016.

1. John Cena clinches his 16th World Championship.

http://www.wwe.com/inside/10-things-...to-see-in-2016

Can see everything except #8 and #9 happening. #5 and #7 are toss ups mostly because it requires the WWE to plan long term stuff.

Simple Fan 01-01-2016 09:48 PM

Sascha could join New Day and be a Tag Team champion or New Day could win a singles title and share it.
