Nobody is obsessed with you Noid, of course you would try to rationalise peoples distaste with your personality as infatuation, after all you are in love with yourself and you desire to be the centre of attention at all times. Unfortunately, you are not very interesting. You are a snivelling little worm of a man who feels the need to feed his own ego by cannibalising a small community message board until no content exists but his own inane drivel. I remember back when CM Punk was doing The Straight-Edge Society, I would have marked out for Funaki joining the stable, shaving his head, with Punk pointing out that he's one of the most dangerous men on the WWE roster, but no one takes him seriously...until now. Start dressing him in black and focusing on submission-style wrestling.

While Sakamoto was on the WWE roster, I had also hoped that the WWE would give Funaki a call to come in as the manager/trainer of Yoshi Tatsu & Sakamoto, who would become a heel team. I'd just settle for a random NXT appearance here or there.

I like that the WWE are doing something with him. I like that by simply implying he has gone and gotten martial arts training, he has rounded out his game enough to be a player in the WWE. What I do not like is, again, that it took them so fucking long to work out that a) Funaki is talented, and b) He is Asian and has a name that could be connected in pun-form to "kung fu," which they could inaccurately link with images of the Japanese and gi's. It's a light-hearted gimmick, though, which is a field Funaki can own and become world champion someday.

Another position of this is it gets Funaki away from his old image. Look, aestetics in wrestling are often understated. Not so much size and muscle definition, but things like the attire a guy wears, and his entrance. Funaki, for the longest time, has had the same theme music, and has worn the same colour scheme: blue and white. It was refreshing just to see Funaki with red wristbands. It may not seem like much, but by losing the "SmackDown!" tights, and the same old colour patterns and theme music, the image Funaki puts in the minds of fans can itself change more easily over time.

And hey, a push is a push. He should start using the Superkick as a finisher again, though. He used it briefly during his run as Cruiserweight Champion, in what I assume is homage to Shawn Michaels (he's apparently a big HBK fan, going as far as to move to San Antonio, Texas). The Sweet Chin Ongaku making its return with the martial artist gimmick could work out really well.

Samoa Joe got busted with a Wellness Policy violation.

Either WWE recently tweaked their standards or started to actually care about violations again considering how long they went without giving suspensions.

WWE announced the news via a statement today: "WWE has suspended Nuufolau Seanoa (Samoa Joe) for 30 days effective Monday, February 24, for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy."

Joe is currently out of action after suffering a concussion during a commercial shoot for WWE earlier this month. Prior to that, Joe had returned to the ring after also suffering a concussion while teaming with Kevin Owens against Seth Rollins & Murphy on the January 27 episode of Raw.

Joe is the fourth wrestler to be suspended by WWE for a wellness policy violation in recent months. Robert Roode and Primo Colon were given 30-day suspensions in December, while United States Champion Andrade was suspended for 30 days on January 28.

Recent rumor going around the net hints that NXT's tv show airing outside of Full Sail in mid-March is going to be at TNA/Impact's old Universal Studios location.

Mr. Nerfect 02-26-2020 01:13 AM

That would not be a good look.

Mr. Nerfect 02-26-2020 01:15 AM

Seems a weird place to run, especially given it’s still in Florida and has that stank on it. Sounds like something someone would make up to make them look bad.

Emperor Smeat 02-26-2020 01:38 AM

The guy who started the rumor is one of those die hard NXT fans that's always at shows and part of a NXT fan group that hangs out with wrestlers both before and after shows. Based on his tweet, seems that's been the chatter making the rounds over there.

NXT's core audience at Full Sail pretty much are the same people who used to always hang out at TNA's Impact Zone and left and/or split time with NXT when it moved to Full Sail.

Size-wise, Wikipedia says it can hold up to around 1400 depending on which stage is used. Big improvement over Full Sail since the most it can hold is around 400 for shows.

Turns out the March 11th episode of NXT won't be taking place at TNA/Impact's old home in Universal Studios as was speculated but instead at WWE's Performance Center.

Quote:

After the 2/26 episode of NXT went off the air, Paul “Triple H” Levesque stated that the March 11th show will broadcast from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.

It is being dubbed “Fan Appreciation night” and tickets for the show went on sale following his announcement.

Probably couldn't find a decent sized venue in the area on such a short notice.

The rumored Universal Studios location did come with the potential risk of them not filling up the venue due to the short time for ticket sales and NXT struggling with house show attendance in Florida in recent months.

slik 02-27-2020 12:47 AM

Oh.

Isn't the Performance Center sort of a giant gym (minus bleachers)?
That might look super indie.

Emperor Smeat 02-27-2020 01:16 AM

Yeah. If NXT has been getting complaints about Full Sail looking "low rent" then the PC is going to be just as bad or even worse by comparison.

Like maybe "indie event at a warehouse" tier in terms of setting depending on how WWE configures the place.

Although on the bright side, NXT could also pull off a WCW-style World War 3 Battle Royale match because of the gym's current layout.

Apparently the person who inspired the name for Vince McMahon's first wrestling-related company, Titan Sports Inc, passed away on Wednesday.

Vince would later use Titan Sports to purchase WWF from his father and then years later renamed it to WWF making them the same company instead of separate ones.

I barely consider myself a wrestling fan these days, but if I had to go into it: I'm cool by wrestling fan standards. I get invited lots of places, get laid, people seem to respect my views and want to be around me. I wouldn't get along with most AEW fans in a social setting without tempering my personality to be more their level and flow. I don't do that on here, because I don't mind being obnoxious as fuck about something I am passionate about. I'm sure most wrestling fans find me insufferable. I tend to form my views based on data and what I think is good taste and informed opinions. That is why when I criticize something it rubs people the wrong way -- it rankles them because they know I've got a good fucking point >90% of the time and it challenges their taste.

Is that Fandango? It's weird that they use him for stuff like this, but won't actually use him as a performer on their wrestling programs.

Seems WWE is currently going after The Revival's trademark filings based on recent trademarks filed by the company.

One of the trademarks being opposed is the Revival's "No Flips, Just Fists" phrase although WWE's filing doesn't have the comma included.

It will be The Miz & John Morrison defending against The New Day, The Usos, Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode, The Lucha House Party, and Heavy Machinery.

When I saw that The Revival weren't in that giant cluster of a Chamber, I assumed that WWE had given up on trying to convince them to stay.

Not what I said. I said by wrestling fan standards. There are no cool wrestling fans. There seems to be a need to put words into people’s mouths around here. Looking at the crowd shots of AEW fans, they’re a certain type of person for the most part. They’re absolutely valid, but they’re not exactly the sort of people I see in my social groups. Maybe they all have winning personalities? Good for them if they do.

If you ask an honest question, you’ll get an honest answer.

Better Superman Punch than the one Roman Reigns spams during matches. What helps is that OC's motion and the camera cut made it look a lot more impactful than the goofy way its done in WWE.

Mr. Nerfect 03-01-2020 06:51 PM

Holy shit, you're right! I don't know why WWE is wasting their time with that phoney Roman Reigns. They should get rid of him and pay Tony Khan $3 million to get Orange Cassidy out of his AEW contract so he can be the one to beat Goldberg. That way they can actually make a new star.

And while we are at it, might as well have Orange Cassidy replace you at TPWW since you've been annoying as hell in recent weeks.

I find the immature and endless praising of anything not WWE annoying so I call it out. Sorry you had to fall in the firing lines, but "spamming?" Fucking "spamming?"

I saw a destroyer in each of the first three matches at Revolution. I didn't count superkicks because that would have just put me to sleep faster.

Nah, you can stay.

I’m not easily annoyed. What I find annoying I find really annoying though. Wrestling without logic has been annoying me lately, as has the hypocrisy of fans. People are allowed to be biased — I do get that. It doesn’t mean I have to like it and can’t point it out though.

Roman Reigns is not a guy I associate with “spamming moves” in this era.

It's always been Fandango. And I made that remark ages ago about both of he and his tag partner having to do their own Fashion Files shit and post it online instead of being on TV and having matches. And they remained pretty over for awhile in spite of it, much like Motor City Machine Guns were in TNA when those two were getting pretty much the same treatment as these guys in WWE, but over a massively longer stretch of time.

It's too bad that they can't get Clint Bobski back. But if the timeframe of season 3 is legit, they've hopefully found an opponent for Debbie by now. And for some reason, I wonder if they'll have gimmicks akin to "Making A Difference" Savio Vega, Skinner, and Hakushi. And more importantly, will this mean the return of Porkchop Jones?

I’ve always been a proponent of Fandango. Just find it interesting he’s got a starring role on this show but WWE have never really even given him a whiff of the mid-card since 2013.

Sepholio 03-02-2020 09:12 AM

Matt Hardy has officially announced he let his contract expire and that he is now a free agent. Take that with a grain of salt.

Found that interesting since it was assumed even with Anthem's purchase that AXS still likely wasn't a member of Nielsen's system considering their shows never rank.

Likely means Impact's numbers are doing just as bad as they were on the Pursuit Channel despite the increased exposure and better brand name AXS has.

Season 2 of Viceland's Dark Side of the Ring is currently expected to debut later this month.

The Benoit episode is getting special treatment in the form of being 2 hours in length instead of the typical 1 hour for episodes in the series.

While season one featured six episodes, season two will be ten episodes with nine subjects meaning one will be two hours instead of their customary one. Some of the topics confirmed include:
  • The Chris Benoit story (expected to be the two hour focus)
  • Brawl For All
  • The life and times of Dino Bravo
  • New Jack
  • Herb Abrams, founder of the UWF
  • The life and times of Owen Hart

The Herb Abrams one should be amazing.

I subscribe to Between The Sheets Patreon and this did a 3 part deep dive in the UWF. Lots of jaw dropping stuff like Herb announcing Bruiser Brody joining the UWF even though Brody had been dead for a year or so.

Shame that there aren't numbers for the NJPW stuff to compare to. I bet at least the couple of live USA specials would have at least gotten a rating.

It's really crazy that Anthem bought the network specifically for the platform to air Impact on and no one with a Nielsen box watches it.

Money in the Bank is going to be in Baltimore on May 10th. Definitely going, there's an Orioles game before hand just like the time I went to Extreme Rules with the LockJaw nation sign.

I do find it odd that both RAW and SD are in the middle of the European Tour with SD in London the Friday before and shows in Germany the week after. Hmm
