Harmonix reveals they are currently hiring and working on a new project meant to be released with the next generation of consoles.
Based on the slim details given, the game will be motion-based for controls but won't be a music or a game they've done similar in the past. The game may or may not be a rail-style game depending on which platform the game arrives and how involved Kinect/Move/Tablet controls are used. Quote:

Driving around with mass quantities of illegal narcotics isn't exactly the smartest idea in the world, but if that's something you plan on doing you could learn a thing or two about what not to do from this tale about a man, the police and an Xbox.
Upon being pulled over by the West Texas fuzz Carlos Valenzuela, 42, appeared visibly nervous and repeatedly looked at a bag in his Mercedes' passenger seat. After discovering a bundle of the devil's dandruff in the vehicle, the El Paso County Sheriffs' Office brought in a K-9 unit that promptly uncovered an additional two bricks of cocaine hidden inside an Xbox 360. In total close to four pounds of nose candy was recovered from inside the vehicle. Valenzuela was arrested, charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance and placed on a $25,000 bond. In the end, the real tragedy in all of this was that yet another innocent game console has lost its life in the War on Drugs. http://www.destructoid.com/man-arres...0-227008.phtml |

Ubisoft announces Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be getting a release but not on current consoles.
The creator of the Rayman series, Michel Ancel, confirms he's in charge of the project and is currently in development again. The game will be taking some inspiration from Mirror's Edge in regards to camera and movement system but current consoles do not have enough power nor tech to make it work the way Ubisoft wants. The goal is to make it feel very life-like and as if the action was occurring live. Quote:

Capcom Sales Figures
SF X T: 1.4 million (target was 2 million. Ouchie)
RE: Racoon City: 1.7 million (I'm no SF X T fan, but fuck off did this corpse outsell it) Monster Hunter 3G: 1.6 million (Only out in Japan too. They can't get enough of this shit) UMVC3: No real figures announced, but it didn't break a million (You think it might have been too soon for your stupid upgrade edition Capcom? Shocking) http://www.destructoid.com/capcom-pr...d-227099.phtml |
ORC did way better than it deserved. SFxT did well, it'll reach target by Fall, I think. Monster Hunter kills it again, like that's the whole population of Japan buying it. Only people who really dug MvC3 would double dip, I didn't imagine it would sell anywhere near vanilla's numbers.

I got a 120gb hard drive for a 360 for pretty cheap. Then I got it home and realised it was for the slim 360 and I have the fat 360. I took it back to the shop and the guy says I can still use the hard drive on the old fat model. I'm thinking he's talking crap just to keep the sale.
So, before I break my 360 trying to jam the hard drive into place, does the slims hard drive work with the original fat model? |
|
So, I can buy this, put the slim hard drive into it and put it in my 360?
|
Yup, that'll do it.
You'll need to take it out of the case it's in now as well. |
Sounds like it could be tricky.
If GAME trade in hard drives, I might just see if I can get a little profit from a trade in. Edit: Seems GAME might give me very little for it. So trading it in is a waste. I could take it back for a refund from the shop I bought it from but I'm not in the mood to get messed about right now. |
Ok, I tried to put it into my 360 and it fits in perfectly. I guess it wasn't a slim after all.
I skipped sign in and had a look at what was on the drive. So far it's a ton of demos and a few games. A lot of which involve shooting people in the face. Worryingly, the only theme on the drive is titled osama_bin_laden_.jpg :| |
So does the hard drive look like that enclosure you linked to on Amazon?

It works, my bro did the same.
Though it came with the cable at the time. |

EA released their financial report today revealing Star Wars TOR is losing subscribers again, new Need for Speed confirmed, and the plans to invest around $80 million for initial next gen games.
In terms of the stock market, EA's stock dropped by 10% after the fiscal report was announced with the details involving Star Wars Old Republic being the main reason. The MMO game of Star Wars The Old Republic, another 400,000 subscribers have dropped out since February leaving around 1.3 million users left. None of the special promotions and free month deals have been effective in keeping subscribers. A new Dead Space and Need for Speed game have been confirmed to be in development with a Spring 2013 release expected. No details were revealed about the new Dead Space but its assumed Criterion is developing the new Need for Speed game. The company itself is undergoing a "restructuring" phase with massive layoffs expected to the amount of around $40 million needing to be saved. Quote:

Losing, SM, not loosing.
EA's had stock problems already. They're nto THQ, but...This definitely isn't helping them. |
Keep seeing articles about a new WWII shooter and people saying its fresh because it's been a while.
The whole FPS genre feels stale regardless of setting. They all have pretty similar mechanics with their regenerating health and only a couple of weapons. You could set an FPS in my large intestine and it would likely feel stale. |
FPS is only stale because they keep making the same game. I don't play modern FPS games like CoD or BF and I honestly can't tell the difference when I look at screens or videos.
FPS games need much more variation. TS4 would have been perfect to revitalise the genre but that's "too risky". Where as churning out identicle games yearly is never ever going to backfire. Nope, no one will ever get sick of the same 5 run-of-the-mill guns in the same bland setting every year. |

Rumor today involving Microsoft finally bringing a web browser for the Xbox 360 hint at it being controlled by Kinect and would be based off of Internet Explorer 9.
The official debut for the web browser is rumored to occur during Microsoft's E3 press conference with some details involving the browser being a modified version of Internet Explorer 9 with priority towards the Kinect. The browser will allow keyboard input but has been designed to take advantage of Kinect features such as voice recognition for Bing searches. The focus for the browser appears to be related more towards the news of the $99 Xbox 360 model more than a newly added feature for Xbox Live. Not counting the Bing search bar from the recent dashboard update, Microsoft never was willing to actually implement a web browser besides the occasional hints of it being possible unlike Nintendo and Sony. Prototype 2 is just prototype with a few new powers and side quests. Still ridiculously fun though.
Might pick up Witcher 2 tomorrow. |
I don't care about the new Hitman. I loved all the previous ones but the new one is too far removed in many ways.
47 has a new voice actor. 47 now has the super powers to tell where people will walk and stand still and he can see through walls. He also had Dead Eye now, even though IO swear it's not Dead Eye at all and an original feature. He slows down time and marks targets on enemies before returning time to normal and shooting them in quick succession. It's Dead Eye. The story elements they have revealed suck. I wont be picking it up. |
Yeah im with you on that. The strongest point (for me at least) in the Hitman series WAS the fact that you were bare bones in terms of 'gaming' powers...like, you did everything on your own, however you wanted...and you failed, often.
|
Yeah. I enjoyed the games for the same reason.
Now, rather than waiting around a corner for that securty guard to pass, players just hit a button, see he's 5 minutes away and run into the unguarded room knowing they have plenty of time to do the job and leave. Having Dead Eye means there is no risk either. You just activate it, aim and fire. No way to possibley screw up and have to retreat and form a "Plan B". |
hmmm I don't know. You could say the same thing about Splinter Cell: Conviction.
It wasn't the same type of game as it's predecessors, but it was still an absolute blast to play. I will give this new Hitman a shot for that very reason. |
If I want to play Splinter Cell or Arkham Asylum, I'll go buy Splinter Cell or Arkham Asylum.
Hitman shouldn't be trying to be anything other than Hitman. |

Supposed new footage of the beta version for Beyond Good and Evil 2 was leaked today with the source stating the footage comes from the 2009 build of the game before Ubisoft temporary cancelled the project.
The footage primarily shows off the game's engine which has been sporadically been tweaked and worked on since 2009. The game was also originally meant for a release for this current generation before the decision by Ubisoft to move all development towards the next generation of systems. The engine is currently undergoing an overhaul in order to create a more "life-like" system and movement with the primary influence coming from Mirror's Edge. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qy3b5lgvu5A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...ine-in-action/ More previously leaked screens and footage ---> http://www.unseen64.net/2012/05/11/b...eta-prototype/ ____________________________________________________________ Daily Recap: 1) Gamestop is currently rumored to start selling pre-paid Steam voucher cards starting on May 15 with a leaked image showing off what the card looks like. http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...ting-next-week 2) Nintendo might be completely phasing out the DSi line soon as one last major price cut was announced to arrive on May 20 with the DSi to drop to $100 and the DSi XL to drop to $130. Blizzard and Valve Sort Out Their Legal Dispute Over DOTA Trademark
The two publishers come to a mutually beneficial agreement that allows all of the DOTAs to come out as scheduled. By Alex Navarro | May 11, 2012 http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0...345_middle.jpg Marking the end of one of the shortest legal battles (more of a skirmish, really) in video game industry history, Blizzard and Valve today came to a mutual agreement over the trademark rights for DOTA. DOTA is, of course, the popular Warcraft III mod that somehow became a commercial sequel in development at Valve, even though Blizzard had decided to make its own official update of the mod for Starcraft II and...you know what? Never mind. It's way too long and convoluted to try and explain in a news blurb. The point is, the fight over the trademark is now over with. Valve and Blizzard sent out a joint press release today letting everyone know that everything was hunky dory between the two publishers. As per the settlement, Valve gets to keep the DOTA name for whatever commercial uses it might like--such as the eventual release of DOTA 2--and Blizzard fans are A-OK to use the name for any noncommercial projects without fear of legal reprisal. As for the upcoming official DOTA update from Blizzard, that has been renamed Blizzard All-Stars. Because apparently that was the best name they could come up with on short notice. Blizzard had previously claimed that the DOTA trademark had too much history with Blizzard to be trademarked by another company. They stated in their original complaint that the name DOTA had "become firmly associated in the mind of consumers with Blizzard." Ultimately, it seems the two parties were able to find common ground they could both work within, and now everybody's happy. While it would have been great for the two companies to figure this stuff out without involving the legal system, that just isn't really how business is done nowadays. At least this one ended quickly, and on a friendly enough note. |

Ubisoft is actually working on one right now based off of the recent movie but won't come out until at least 1-2 years from now.
They decided at the very last minute to get the rights to make the game although stuff like that has happened a few times in the past such as Goldeneye for the N64 not coming out until 2 years after the film and I think EA's Lord of the Rings games for something more recent. |
But will it be a first person shooter?
|
Movie tie-in games usually suck anyways. I'm glad they are taking the time to try to make the game good instead of just putting an Avengers label on anything they can.

The legal case involving the rights to the DOTA name between Valve and Blizzard has been decided as the courts sided with Valve over the ownership of the name.
Blizzard did gain rights to use the DOTA style for their upcoming game but have been forced to rename their game from DOTA to now All-Stars. Blizzard tried to use the same tactic done against Mojang during the "Scrolls" case but this time a court did not accept Blizzard's claim of "DOTA" being seen as an identity and trademark of the Blizzard style in terms of consumer perspective. My favourite is still "We can't do couch co-op online because it's not possible on the 360." despite MK9 doing exactly that. Anyway, that became "We wanted to do couch co-op online but Microsoft wouldn't allow it" which became "We never said it was going to be on the 360 version" which became "We wanted to, guys, we just didn't have time...no, that doesn't mean we'll put it in later".
We're grow ups, though you wouldn't know judging by some people online, and I'd much rather they had just been honest and said "We made a deal with Sony to do A, B & C exclusively. So no A, B or C for the 360. Sorry." |
Sonic 4: Episode 2 is out now. I've only got the demo and I've already found something that could be "game breaking". Hold X and Sonic & Tails do a tag team spin dash. This turns the game into God mode as you plow through enemies and go so fast that you pretty much just sail over pits and up even totally vertical ramps.
