Red State 5/10 Overall was a bit disappointing. Didn't do all that much for me. Had a decent build up, then I was hoping things to go in a completely different direction at a certain point, things getting really fucked up. Instead, it got worse with a certain cut.

Eating Out - 6/!0

it had it's funny moments but I can't imagine any straight guy going the lengths this guy did to hook up with a chick

here's the description

After getting dumped by his girlfriend Tiffani von der Sloot University of Arizona student Caleb Peterson commiserates with his roommate Kyle who notes that while he has trouble getting the men he wants, he could get any woman because he's gay. Later at a party, Gwen Anderson dumps her boyfriend after he comes out to her. Caleb sees her and becomes infatuated and meets Marc Everhard with whom Kyle is infatuated. Marc, meanwhile, sees Caleb and is instantly attracted. Kyle comes up with a crazy scheme. He tells Gwen that Caleb is gay so she'll set him up with Marc. Kyle figures that Caleb can use Marc to get to Gwen, while Kyle uses Caleb to get to Marc. Also, Tiffani lives next door to Gwen and Marc so seeing Caleb date Marc would make her crazy.

For those of you looking for gore slasher, zombies, or paranormal ghosts look elsewhere. This is like the Vanishing.. Except we don't get to see the real face of the killer throughout the movie.. think of it as a voyeuristic snuff live film that'll give you nightmares of what it's like being stalked with a handheld cam by a faceless guy in the background of the scenery.

8/10.

What's even creepier is that the reason this movie was made is because of the director's experience similar to the movie and here's what he had to say:

“The inspiration for this movie came from an incident in my own life when I was a 10 year old boy. I was sleeping over a childhood friend’s house and his mom left us home alone for a few hours while she was out working late. So we stayed up eating ice cream and watching TV. Then a knock came at the door. We were taught never to open the door to strangers so we politely asked, ‘who is it?’ There was no answer. We looked through the peephole, but it was broken. Another knock came at the door. We said louder ‘yes, who is it?’ There was still no answer. We could see under the crack of the door that someone wearing big black boots was standing still on the other side of the door, but they never answered. There was just a soft terrifying knock knock that came every 30 seconds. After about the fifth knock knock we were screaming at the top of our lungs ‘who the F**K is it?’ I have never been so incredibly scared in my entire life. There was never an answer, just silence for 10 terrifying minutes. That was more than 30 years ago, and I’m still scared to death wondering what would have happened had we opened that door.”

Straw Dogs - 6/10

As of right now anyhow. A film has to be really good for me to give it a 7 and beyond. I thought the film was entertaining, and very intense. Not really a horror film like I thought. It's more like a thriller/suspense type of film. Even though it's a lot like the old-school Straw Dogs from 1971, it does it's own thing plenty of times. I was worried it was going to be like the Psycho or True Grit remakes where it's a complete copy, but I am happy to type it wasn't, and I look forward to watching it again on blu-ray.

We Need to Talk About Kevin - 8/10 – I thought the above trailer for this looked really good so I was really excited for this, Now, I haven't read the book myself but those I know who did were disappointed with this movie. And it definitely feels like something was lost in bringing the book to film. Lynne Ramsay's direction is terrific and Swinton is great, but I felt like the film missed its mark a little bit. Want to watch this one again though.

Wuthering Heights - 6/10 - Gritty and realistic adaptation of the Emily Bronte novel. An interesting experiment by Andrea Arnold, a director I quite like. First half was good, second half couldn’t keep my attention. I know the main character Heathcliff isn't supposed to be an overly sympathetic character or anything but I found him quite loathsome.

Dark Horse - 7/10 – New film from Todd Solondz about a fat 35 year old man-child who lives with his parents (Christopher Walken, Mia Farrow) and buys expensive action figures, he meets a depressed Selma Blair at a wedding and the two begin a weird relationship. Went in with low expectations because I’ve found Solondz post Happiness work to be spotty at best and the reviews coming out of Venice were not very good. I found it pretty funny and actually quite interesting. The third act turns into a surreal series of dreams that sympathetically examine how big fat fucking losers perceive themselves and those around them. This also had my favourite post movie Q&A. Solondz was super awkward and weird but really nice at the same time. Think the Q&A is on youtube actually.

Shame - 9/10 - My favourite film of the fest, probably my favourite film since The Wrestler. A poetic character study about a corporate Manhattanite that has “sex addiction”. Fassbender turns in the best performance of his career and Steve McQueen managed to surpass his brilliant Hunger with this one. Despite being about addiction it isn’t anything like Requiem for a Dream, which I found to be a sensationalized depiction of the destruction of addiction, and goes a somewhat more subtle route, and more effectively examines how addiction can be symptomatic of something larger. Also had the most depressing threesome scene ever and Fassbender has a magnificent penis.

I Wish - 8/10 – Hirozaku Kore-eda is one of my favourite living directors and one of the few Japanese directors continuing the humanistic tradition of the golden age of Japanese cinema and not making fucked up action/horror movies. Doing what he does best here, although a little more accessible.

Rebellion - 6/10 – La Haine is a masterpiece but everything Kassovitz has done since has been shit. This was okay. I don’t know, nothing really memorable.

Killer Joe - 7/10 Kinda like a trashy version of an early Coen brothers movie. Matthew McConaughey is refreshingly dark and makes Gina Gershon simulate giving him a blowjob, using a piece of KFC chicken.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Hj2lR6Yp-gY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Alps - 8/10 – New movie from Dogtooth director Giorgos Lanthimos, not as good or as visceral as Dogtooth but still enjoyable. It’s about a group of people who are paid to act as recently deceased people to make the grieving process easier for families. It’s a bit of a mess of a film but Lanthimos style and deadpan humour is so engaging that I feel like watching it again.

Jeff, Who Lives at Home - 7/10 – New Duplass brothers movie, I think I prefer the dark awkwardness of Cyrus, but this was still good. This was their most plotty and accessible movie, but they don’t abandon their unique style. I also liked that it was funny, but there wasn’t really any jokes.

Once Upon a Time in Anatolia - 9/10 - Loves this one as well. Ceylan's crime story leaves out the extraneous details to focus what is universal for all violent acts and the investigations that follow. There are people involved with the investigation, people who kill, and the family of the victims. The film isn't overly clinical either, lots of humour, emotion and of course Ceylan's unique and evolving cinematic rhetoric.

The Descendants - 7/10 – New Alexander Payne movie starring George Clooney. Clooney plays an out of touch father/husband who suddenly has to take the lead now that his wife is in a coma and her Will stipulates to have her life support removed. He later finds out his wife was cheating on him and wants to find the dude she was fucking. I like Payne’s adult approach to filmmaking, and he does a good job balancing the movies sadness with humour. This will probably get a lot of Oscar buzz.

Drive - 8/10 – Loved the quiet moodiness of the direction. Surprised by the movies ultra violence however. Kinda curious what the average person will think of this one, I wonder if most people are expecting something similar to the Fast and the Furious movies.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nI_U7Oudl00" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Into the Abyss - 7/10 - Werner Herzog documentary about a triple homicide in Texas. It lacks Herzog’s quirkiness and at times felt a little Datelineish but Herzog knows how to ask better questions than any TV journalist hack and he slowly peels back the interesting fabric of people’s lives. He even interviews one of the killers who is eight days away from being executed. The movie is unquestionably anti-capital punishment, but Herzog doesn’t lecture, he shows it how it is, and how this horrible practice damages the lives of all involved. Including, a correctional officer who was involved with hundreds of state killings, at one point was even doing two a week. Eventually the job broke him down, and he had to jeopardize his pension by quitting, he justifies the decision and poignantly asks us to question our own mortality by pointing out that on your tombstone there is a birth a death and in-between these things there is a hyphen, and asks “How are you going to live you dash?”

Best part of the movie: After the end credits, there's a bonus rap video "Shark Bite" performed by the cast themselves but it's not a Gemstar cover... Almost sound similar though... Still, I love that song! I think I'm in love with Sara Paxton. She's starting to look like Reese Witherspoon too..

Other than that, I enjoyed sharks leaping out of the water eating everyone in sight. Could've been better if it was a Sci-Fi cheesy TV stuff but instead we get 3-d theater release.

I like the twist
SPOILER: show

that there are humans as well among them who like to kill people just for the sake of getting their fame on a documentary Discovery Channel Shark Week. Yes, you heard me. they mentioned it in the movie which I just LOLed. That's their reason why they put the sharks in the lake there and make snuff films of people getting eaten.

This movie wasn't bad at all. The way the kid talked to his dad was a bit much, and I can tell you that the movie full got it's PG-13 rating due to Language more than anything. The chicks boobs were shown well in her lose tops. The soundtrack was on par for the film. The fighting was good, but the end fight could've been done better and longer. The family and love story really wasn't too much. It had it's moments, but overall it was clear that the family deals there, the love story is there, and it's what's moving things along. I have to say I was shocked with how the aunt acted. And lastly, this movie had LOTS of PRODUCT PLACEMENT, but hay at less the kid likes Dr.Pepper.

I can say that it's good enough to go see in the theater.

I agree with Ebert saying this one had low expectations and just enjoy the show. And robot boxing is more entertaining and metal pwnage carnage to watch than the boring human counterparts. Why risk of human fighters paying medical bills on physical injuries when you can just put robots and smash each other?

Atom the main hero robot's vocals reminded alot of Bumblebee. While Zeus the main villain champ robot, seems invincible and resembles alot more menacing than Megatron himself. :P

started off ok but really took a fall halfway through. Turned into a good laugh instead of a good scare.

28 Days Later 6.5/10

Wtf was this. It wasn't terrible, but it kind of fell apart once they got to the soldiers. I understand the metaphors for losing their humanity, and that they knew the rest of the world wasn't doomed. But this whole last half just seemed weird and fucked up. Like, it only took 28 days for these soldiers to turn into cold blooded rapists and murderers? Especially with the knowledge that the rest of the world was still operating as usual and that it was just the island that had been quarantined?

Also, did he really survive? There were those cutaways in the hospital of her trying to save his life, and then it flashed the word 'HELL' on the hill like he was dead or something. But then suddenly he's alive, and they finish it into HELLO. (recurring theme, i got that) Dunno. Really confused as to how it really ended.

Highlight of the movie was when he walked into the church and said 'hello' and shit was like "MINE?!" all of a sudden.

Green Lantern - 7/10

I thought it was alright, i don't read DC so it probably raped the source material. Doubt its getting a sequel though, which it seemed to be gearing up for based on my limited GL knowledge.

6/10. I REALLY enjoyed this cheap-ass low budget film only for her... Yes, lots of ass kicking on this one.. Even if the ending was a lame-ass bang shootout with the mob boss, there's even a prolonged wrestling catfight between Trish and some rogue Asian policewoman... And there's even a bloopers stuff on the credits sequence that Trish REALLY does her wrestling moves stuff. No stunt doubles... Who knows? She could be like Jennifer Garner's Alias spy ass-kicker. The whole plot reminded me of Pam Anderson's Barb Wire. Stripper waitress part time bounty hunter. But Trish is hotter than Pam. Nuff said.

aka Dark Souls. I REALLY enjoyed this... I like the idea of associating zombies with the oil industry factories despite in reality the world is having an oil crisis... How did the zombies vomit this unusual black oil coming out of their mouths? The only clues you'll see in this movie are a bunch of orange jumpsuit guys in facial masks with driller machines that kill people drilling their heads WITHOUT DAMAGING THE BRAIN...

Even more interesting is that despite the victims became zombified and their bodies start to look like black oil oozing out, they NEVER spit oil on their victims until the virus gets evolving and fucking shit up later in the movie. Nice concept.. The ending is just sick and twisted I refuse to give it away.. And sometimes, I like to call this movie a Norweigan version of The Crazies.

Even the trailer doesn't disappoint: The black oil slime reminded me of Creepshow 2: The Raft story.

Another franchise does the Twilight-ish swerve. Unfortunately, it was even watchable. :p Except this time, the werewolves are not one of those perfect abs hot looking jocks, they look like ugly reject punk-ass outsiders of school.. The alpha wolf is a HOT MILF... Yes, this is a mother vs son plotline. Effects resemble very closely to the Underworld franchise although it's not as great as Underworld. But still, fairly watchable if you can get past the cliche romance Twilight fans swooning over these days.. I could care less of who really attacked that mom from the start. And all she said was that there are others like her THOUSANDS of it..

P.S. Even the main hero looks like Harry Potter/Daniel Radcliffe look-alike. I KID YOU NOT!

SPOILER: show
The end credits scenes should've been added to the movie cos it could've been much more.. Esp. even after the end credits finished, we get a hot chick girlfriend in a graduate toga with red wolf eyes saying, "Now you believe us?"

Like I said it's not as great as Underworld but it was barely watchable and I prefer this one over Twilight shit anyday.

EDIT: Last time I checked, there was Howling V: The Rebirth... Rebirth or Reborn. Hah, another cheap editing on that word.

Alexander - 6/10

my god this movie coulda been so great but ended up a complete fucking mess.

for starters Angelina Jolie annoys me as Olympias with what sounds like a russian accent

Colin Farrell with blond hair as Alexander and his Irish accent slipping out

Jared Leto portrayed Hephaestion

I thought Colin and Jared had a pretty good screen presence together however

Rosario Dawson as Roxana was probably the most annoying character in the movie
