100%ed Tale of Arise. 100 hours. great game. started guardians of the galaxy. seems on par the with uncharted series

Fignuts 11-01-2021 08:06 PM

I finished Guardians. What a fucking ride. Combat is rough around the edges, but still fun like I said before. This game leans heavily on its narrative and characters. If you don't care about story in video games, I'm gonna say this isn't for you. That said, this is one of the most enjoyable stories I've ever experienced in a game. Just a blast all the way through.

Characters are well written and voice acted. Insane amount of VA in this, as the group is constantly bantering during missions and all of it is unique. The comedy had me chuckling all the way through. I was a bit worried after the trailer as some of those jokes fell flat, but most of what's here is pretty funny.

The world's you explore are fucking gorgeous. Can tell a lot of the budget went into the environments.

I think it has enough draw from the mcu to pull in fans who have only seen the movies, while not coming off like Dollar store knock offs, like Avengers. But if you are familiar with the books, there's a lot great stuff here.

Speaking of Avengers, GotG shits all over it by having mcu skins as free in game unlocks as opposed to charging 14 fucking dollars for them.

Downloaded UnMetal on Switch and am about halfway through it. Specifically got it for Switch instead of XBOX because it "feels right" on Nintendo.

Fantastic love letter of batshit insanity towards Metal Gear. As in, the pre-solid games. It's like a Mix of BOTH versions of MG, the original sequel, and Snake's Revenge... but a lot of tounge-in-cheek nonsense to outright bullshit as you play a guy who was imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit.

There were a couple of BS cheap deathtraps (there's one area specifically where, no matter what you do, the situation is unwinable, but it's still fun to try just for the narrative), but it is kinda par for the course, given how the narrative works.

In fact, my only *real* complaint came early in the game, since there was a thing you need to do to progress, and there is no real moment in the game that tells you you can do x thing, but it hints/signposts/tutorializes pretty much everyting else. Seems almost like a programming oversight.

ClockShot 11-02-2021 05:56 PM

Started Diablo 2 remake with my buddy.

Inventory system sucks. We were stopping like crazy to adjust, check, and drop like crazy.

Also playing Lost Judgement on the side. Already about an hour in and it's getting good.

Sepholio 11-02-2021 09:55 PM

You know I thought I was hyped for D2R seeing as I probably have more game time in D2 than any other game ever by a wide margin. But I can't bring myself to play it for some reason. Dunno if its because of all the launch issues or if I just don't want to ruin the image I have of what is one of my favorite games ever.

drave 11-03-2021 08:54 AM

Don't.

Had D2R pre-ordered, played the demo and canceled. It does not translate well to console IMO. The inventory alone is abysmal. That single problem causes chain-reaction issues.... like grabbing loot, which is THE main reason to play.

Fignuts 11-03-2021 11:29 AM

Yeah, I played it for a couple hours and haven't touched it since. Couldn't deal with the inventory system.

Playing Blasphemous now. Metroidvania game with an absolutely brutal aesthetic involving Spanish religious iconography.

Oh rest assured if I ever do play it I will not be doing so on a console. F that nonsense. My PC is like 2 gens ahead of the consoles at this point so they only ever get used for games I can't get on PC.

Honestly probably won't ever play it even though my Diablo itch is worsening every day, especially with D4 getting delayed out of presumably 2022 to God knows when. I'd rather just keep my fond memories of OG D2 untarnished.

Sepholio 11-06-2021 12:16 AM

Playing DQXI Definitive Edition. Don't think I ever finished the OG version, got sidetracked or something even though I liked it. Dunno what happened.

5 days until Shin Megami Tensei 5 drops too. And Forza Horizon 5 next week too. Woooo its gaming season.

Destor 11-06-2021 10:03 AM

DQ11 is high on my games of this last gen list

drave 11-06-2021 10:27 AM

Always get the urge to play Fallout in fall. Tried to solo a nuke bunker having zero fucking idea what it entailed....... so I basically have to start over with ammo//consumables :(

Did you play the definitive edition? They added something into it that is super duper awesome. I feel like it would be right up your alley.

SPOILER: show
There is a new town that forces you into the old school 2d NES/SNES style graphics and it contains a bunch of quests (that are unlocked by finding these little guys in the main game world) that transport you to all the old DQ games for a few sidequests. Think there is like 25 in total or something. The premise is that the denizens of the new town are somehow connected to all the worlds and monitor them as a duty, and something is messing with the timelines and wrecking things in each world and you have to do some little tasks to fix everything. Its cool af, hits all the nostalgia buttons.

Destor 11-07-2021 11:53 PM

Yeah man. my timing can be so sporadic, which is the usual problem. Knowing what I know now, I'd definitely put on hacker and lockpick 3.

Just need to take the time to get on and try to do "dailys' or whatever and build my inventory back up. I know fuckall about the endgame of FO76, but it still seems fun to play when I do dive in.

My son has kinda started playing, but he gets sucked right back into his "usual games".

drave 11-08-2021 08:52 AM

Also, some of the CRAZIEST platforming I've ever done is in fucking DOOM. What?!

"HEY! YOU SEE THAT FUCKING LEDGE WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY OVER THERE?!?!?! JUMP, BITCH!"

Fignuts 11-08-2021 09:03 AM

It always brings me joy to see someone playing the new doom games.

Doom Eternal might be my favorite fps game of all time.

drave 11-08-2021 09:27 AM

Had a moment last night where I just arrived on Danuk (can't remember, but I think it's the last place) and thought I was looking at Destiny 2 for a moment. Looked very similar to the Dreaming City.

Easily my favorite FPS. It goes hard on the platforming too, much more than it has any right to, for an FPS.

Sooooooooo good man. Got your DM too, lol. I was AFK at the time, but yeah man. Can't stop riiiiiipppppinnnnng and teaaarrrrrrrinnnnnnggg.

Fignuts 11-08-2021 11:16 AM

Make sure you lube your butthole before playing the dlc. They assume you're a doom master and are absolutely not fucking around.

drave 11-08-2021 12:16 PM

Jesus.....

I thought they weren't fucking around with the dude who can summon buffed demons. Fuck that guy.

Destor 11-08-2021 12:19 PM

guardians of the galaxy was outstanding

Fignuts 11-08-2021 02:14 PM

Yep. I might actually enjoy the story and characters more than the movies. Too close to say.

Finishing Ancient God's part 1 is the only time I can recall being drenched in sweat after finishing a video game. I don't even know how that happens, but there ya go.

2K and Gearbox with a surprise release, Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure , a standalone game version of Borderlands 2's penultimate full DLC, with new additions, for $9.99. Of course I grabbed it.

Still getting used to the new control scheme. R1 (instead of R2) shoots, R2 (was R1) throws a grenade, and L2 (The Artist Formerly Known As L1) activates the player character's action skill.

I have no idea of the level cap. It doesn't let you import BL2 character data, so all characters start from scratch at level 1. But, you get 2 skill points per level, and that starts at level 2, whereas it was level 5 for BL2 and you only got 1 skill point per level up.

M-A-G 11-12-2021 09:11 PM

Giving Back 4 Blood a try for the sake of my friend. Really don't know why they didn't just go for Left 4 Dead 3. It's still pretty neat, though. Definitely improves on some of the formula.

Helmsphere 11-12-2021 11:17 PM

Just finished Guardians of The Galaxy. Def was worth the buy.

Destor 11-12-2021 11:31 PM

so fun

Sepholio 11-18-2021 12:51 AM

Wooo Forza 5.

lol @ RNGesus looking out for me though. Got the fastest car in the game on a free wheelspin within 2 days of starting. 10/10 speed (and handling too) the way it comes. Speed challenges on paved roads quiver in fear at the sight of it.

Destor 11-18-2021 01:35 AM

smt5. masterpiece of a dungeon crawler

OssMan 11-18-2021 04:55 PM

debating playing that... didn't like the atmosphere of nocturne cus it was too bleak, love persona though

Destor 11-18-2021 05:10 PM

smt wont scratch your persona itch then. if bleak makes you want to pass on nocturne then pass here too. smt is all about top tier mechanics polished to the max in a punishing combat system with a bleak backdrop.

Destor 11-18-2021 05:11 PM

should be noted that there are some major QOL improvements over previous entries

ClockShot 11-18-2021 07:22 PM

Put Diablo 2 on hold and in full into Lost Judgement.

However, 10 minutes in I needed to find the nearest Mahjong parlor and get my fix. So addicting.

OssMan 11-20-2021 10:03 AM

Tsukasa Masuko is an outstanding composer. The music in smt5 isnt bad but in a year i wont remember it.

drave 11-22-2021 08:54 AM

Battlefield 2042.

It has some bugs, yep. But, it is actually really fun and the most chaotic FPS I've ever played.

SMG's need balanced badly, as they outperform EVERYTHING right now. There was a good reddit post Fignuts and I had a laugh at where someone hyped up the game and did a long breakdown of each weapon class, only to end each class with saying the PP-28 is the best gun in every class (cause it is :D)

Played a few bot matches. Can pubstomp beginner, but intermediate is a huge difference. Went from winning regularly to getting pubstomped by AI, with the AI usually having 200-400 resources left.

Fun stuff.

M-A-G 11-23-2021 10:17 AM

I've been off and on with the beta for Halo Infinite. Haven't lost a game yet but it's good that there's enough familiarity with the gameplay to where I'm not completely lost. I've never been of fan of locked features but I supposed I should be used to it by now. I miss being able to completely remove your icon from your display and armor because none of the ones available have ever been appealing to me. Looking forward to the campaign, though.

Splaya 11-23-2021 01:58 PM

Finally in the last chapter "Destiny's Crossroads" for Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Still playing Warzone nightly with friends.

Splaya 11-28-2021 07:03 PM

Finally beat FF7 Remake

Ending was interesting. Was a nice set up for the second game, god knows when that will come out. I found the final battles of Kingdom Hearts 3 to be more difficult then FF7 Remake

M-A-G 11-28-2021 11:25 PM

Finally started Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4. Enjoyable enough but it runs into the same problems I typically have with open world games. Going to see how long it takes to get through the main story.

drave 11-29-2021 09:50 AM

BF 2042. The AI isn't terrible. Okay, they're terrible on Beginner, but will fuck your shit up on Intermediate.

Has helped me get a good feel for the guns and attachments, and just overall feel of the game.

Big Vic 11-29-2021 12:34 PM

Tried Goose Goose Duck over the weekend.....it's nice but I still perfer among us..... sad that one died.

ClockShot 12-03-2021 07:08 PM

Picked up Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries bundle from the PSN Black Friday sale.

Digging it so far. But I got a looooooooooong way to go before I get to piloting some death machines. Also need to study up on customization too, looks like it goes pretty deep this time around.

I'm about 4 missions deep in Halo Infinite. Not sure how to feel about the navigation around the ring world since I prefer things to be linear, ESPECIALLY with a Halo game. I kind of feel like I entered in the second reel as far as the story goes. Like did I miss something in one of the novels or whatever because this barely addresses the events of Halo 5. I wager I'll be done with the campaign in about a week.

drave 12-09-2021 12:41 PM

Fuck that. Halo 5 is awesome :D

I don't read comics or get into the semantic of "what's canon" and what isn't. SOmetimes I feel like I'm playing Destiny + Doom (minus the epic gore and music)

So good.

M-A-G 12-09-2021 12:45 PM

Halo 5 was fine. I was just hoping this would continue that thread and wrap things up. Maybe it will. It's fairly early. Exuberant Witness was probably my favorite thing about that game. I even made sure it was my multiplayer announcer voice.

drave 12-09-2021 01:09 PM

Infinite, whatever.

drave 12-09-2021 01:09 PM

Yeah what the fuck, feel like I missed a huge portion of the story. Don't ever recall cortana getting deleted or master cheif going up against Atriox.

Other than that I'm enjoying it. Really like open world format. Especially after upgrading cooldown of the grappling hook so that I can swing through the trees like spider man.

M-A-G 12-09-2021 01:41 PM

I know Atriox was the big baddie for Halo Wars 2 but even in that game, there's really nothing linking it to the events of Halo 5. I'm guessing there's going to be a big exposition dump somewhere in the second act or whatever to help fill in the blanks. One thing I do appreciate about the gunplay, though, is the ability to vent plasma weapons manually and recharge them with certain crates. It just feels better than just discarding a depleted plasma rifle on the ground; and it's environmentally friendly!

drave 12-09-2021 02:16 PM

100p going to unfold more in the 2nd half.

Already feels like Master Chief knows a ton more than he is telling "us" the player - if that makes sense.

Fignuts 12-10-2021 02:06 PM

Still enjoying halo infinite so far. That said one thing bothers me, and it's something that has always bothered me about halo.

The grunts. I just fucking can't, with these grunts.

The whole series plays it completely straight, and takes itself very seriously. And then you've got daffy fucking duck running around over here. I can suspend my disbelief and accept that aliens from across the galaxy speak English just like humans do. What I can't accept is these idiots behaving like hired goons in an Abbot and Costello movie.

It's fucking stupid and I don't like it.

Well they're cowardly so there's that aspect. They were a bit more tolerable in Halo 4 when it had them speaking in their own language. I've learned to just deal with them. It definitely helped to have the skull that caused them to burst confetti when you shot them in the head.

Don't know if this will be anyone's bag but I'm looking to take a break from the campaign and do some multiplayer on Halo Infinite this morning; probably until about noon. I have it and got it at launch. The state of things is pretty shitty right now for sure.

Evil Vito 12-28-2021 08:33 AM

Ya, that's unfortunate. Fucking LOVED the old Battlefields, probably the most fun I've ever had with a FPS. Will research and buy a couple other games before the sale is up.

drave 12-28-2021 08:59 AM

100% And Battlefield V is still fucking great! I still go back to playing it more so than 2042 so far. Most BF games launch with a host of issues, and this is no exception.

They have a long road ahead of them to get it to a "good place".

drave 12-28-2021 09:35 AM

I'm mostly annoyed at Portal mode. They advertised it as a 100% customizable "anything from previous battlefield games" type deals. It is still rather restricted, sadly.

Moreover, the gunplay is trash and they should have kept the fluidity of movement from BF V

They need to fix:

* In-game voice chat (how the FUCK is this NOT in the game??)
* More environmental destruction!!! (this is a big one. Tell me why a FUCKING FLAGPOLE STOPS MY TANK!!) ugh
* Bring back the class system or at least an option to have a game mode with the OG classes.

Exactly how i feel about the game. I think the game is good, but dated.

Sepholio 01-11-2022 12:52 AM

Its actually not a lack of friction. Mario actually runs extremely fast. They actually slow the animation down to make it easier to control him. What you are seeing isnt a lack of friction, but mario losing traction and drifting when he turns or tries to stop. The reason for his awkward take off is basically that he is spinning out before he catches traction.
