The Destroyer 08-05-2013 01:03 PM

I think the main series was meant to be decent enough, but I've not actually read it yet.

Fignuts 08-05-2013 03:57 PM

The main books aren't bad, but they just aren't anything special.

There's no hook like other big crossovers.

Sixx 08-05-2013 04:19 PM

So, any suggestions what to read? I'm talking big crossover events, other than House of M, Secret Invasion, Civil War, Siege (those I've read)?

Lock Jaw 08-05-2013 05:01 PM

Avengers vs X-Men probably. Though I haven't read it myself yet.

I downloaded it last night, read like the first 10 books (there's over 120 with the tie-ins) and it sucks till now. So should I even bother? Or just read the main 8 Fear Itself books (since I started anyway) and be done with it?

It sucks harder than a gay orgy.

The main 8 books suck, have no point or lasting effects. It's a waste of time to read it, just read the synopsis and boom.

I've read like 10 more tie-ins before deciding to just read the main 8 books, cause fuck, I already had them on my HD.

Tie-ins were fuckin' awful, the main books were just "meh".

But reading the tie-ins was a total waste of time, kept hoping it would get better, but 20 issues and it still sucked so yeah. Horrible.

Just downloaded two versions of Avengers vs X-Men. One with tie-ins, but there are only 6 main books, and the other is just main books and there're 12 of them. So I'm kinda puzzled here.

Fignuts 08-05-2013 07:02 PM

Avengers vs x-men is pretty tits. Best crossover in a long while, in my opinion.

dronepool 08-05-2013 07:24 PM

Yeah, the only Fear Itself tie in I read was Deadpool, after Secret Invasion I learned that like 95% of tie ins are just cheap, rushed, cash ins.

Avengers vs X-Men was mediocre, better than the last few ties in.. but I wasn't hyped/selling into it.

Fignuts 08-05-2013 07:28 PM

They can be good. The Avengers Academy tie in to Fear Itself was very good, and featured a pivotal moment in the series.

Also, fuck whoever cancelled Avengers Academy. Great book.

Miotch 08-05-2013 08:46 PM

Thoroughly enjoying Avengers Arena after a lack luster start.

Reavant 08-06-2013 11:35 AM

read xmen schism, avengers x-sanction and the AvX in that order

Kalyx triaD 08-15-2013 09:22 PM

616 has another Spidey, finally a regular:

http://i.newsarama.com/images/i/000/...peg?1374084328

Oh yeah the black kid's in there, too.

loopydate 08-16-2013 12:23 AM

Spiderbatneto!

The Destroyer 08-16-2013 02:40 AM

Is that Spider-Man 2099?

Kalyx triaD 08-16-2013 02:46 AM

Fuck Yeah

Fignuts 08-16-2013 04:28 AM

Always liked the design. Character itself never did anything for me though.

parkmania 08-16-2013 05:01 AM

I still have ALL the 2099 comics.

parkmania 08-19-2013 06:26 PM

Interesting bit of scenery from the set of Amazing Spiderman 2:

Kalyx triaD 08-19-2013 07:18 PM

Thinking it's just a production gag, no way they'd just have that out there for everybody to see.

Lock Jaw 08-19-2013 07:54 PM

Or maybe they would because it is just a wink and a nod to the comic books, and not a sign that "HOLY SH*T HOLY SH*T THE SINISTER SIX ARE IN THE MOVIE"

XL 08-21-2013 05:21 AM

Isn't that what Kalyx is saying?

Kalyx triaD 08-21-2013 06:51 AM

Yes, I think it certainly is.

Kalyx triaD 08-21-2013 03:32 PM

I have to put this here. The latest trailer for LEGO Marvel Superheroes looks like the trailer for the greatest Marvel movie ever. Can you imagine if this was live-action (taken more seriously, of course but you get me)?

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UHO_7nN7dx4?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

dronepool 08-21-2013 04:36 PM

Looks fun, not 60 dollar fun but I'd pick it up for a cheap price.

Kalyx triaD 08-22-2013 04:21 PM

Very good chance Bradley Cooper will be voicing Rocket Raccoon. Hmm...

I'm not too crazy about getting 'faces' to voice animated characters when so many voice actors are available. Then again I like Bradley Cooper.

Sixx 08-22-2013 06:24 PM

I've never really read Guardians of the Galaxy, so my question is - is the raccoon some kinda comic relief character? Or is he some badass raccoon motherfucker (this would be fuckin' weird)?

Cause I can only imagine Bradley Cooper voicing a silly raccoon. Then again fuck knows who in the world could ever voice a serious raccoon.

Kalyx triaD 08-22-2013 06:32 PM

RR is a dead serious dude. Maybe the most dangerous and unstable member of the team. Also easily a fan favorite.

Fignuts 08-22-2013 06:37 PM

Yeah the concept of Rocket Racoon seems ridiculous, but somehow he just works as a badass. Can't really explain. Maybe it's the guns twice his size he carries around.

Kalyx triaD 08-22-2013 06:39 PM

I wanna pet him, but he would probably kill me for it.

Lock Jaw 08-22-2013 07:47 PM

He is a "badass" who likes big guns, which in of itself makes it a more comedic character because he is a raccoon.

Kalyx triaD 08-22-2013 08:40 PM

It's a visual gag thing. Part of the hilarity of Col. Stars and Stripes was how seriously and straight faced Carey played him.

dronepool 08-22-2013 08:59 PM

I don't read Guardians of the Galaxy but RR seems like a joke character even if he isn't... I mean it's a talking raccoon with guns in the "Marvel Universe".

Kalyx triaD 08-22-2013 10:44 PM

Well he isn't.

Skippord 08-22-2013 10:58 PM

I always thought of Groot as the comic relief character

Lock Jaw 08-22-2013 11:19 PM

Groot/Rocket Raccoon are the lighthearted duo who will actually mess you up pretty good.

Sixx 08-23-2013 05:19 AM

Shit, I had to google image for Groot.

So, Vin Diesel stars as a tree. Nice.

*JOKE ABOUT WOODEN ACTING*

Fignuts 08-23-2013 04:13 PM

He doesn't ever say anything but "I am Groot!", so even Vin Deisel would have trouble screwing this up.

Fignuts 08-23-2013 04:13 PM

Cue sarcastic Kane Knight quip.

I really need to go back and get caught up with the cosmic side of Marvel, I never did get finished with Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy. Think I drifted off somewhere before War of Kings.

Whenever these (or Inhumans or whatever the fuck takes place in space) are part or some Marvel crossover I just skip right through them.

Not a fan of Marvel in space.

The Destroyer 08-24-2013 07:00 AM

You'll probably need to give Infinity a miss then.

I hope that they do it Silent Bob style where towards the movie Groot gets a 2 minute long monologue. Ideally about family since family is the only word that I can hear at Vin Diesel's frequency.

Lock Jaw 08-24-2013 01:11 PM

DnA's space stuff was freakin' awesome. No idea if they still do stuff for Marvel/space stuff.

I'm not interested in it either. I actually have a hardcover of Thanos Imperative but I'll probably sell it since I haven't read it (only a few pages) but it looks really good. I pretty much only like Silver Surfer and Thanos for space Marvel, although the cancerverse seems cool. I don't find the appeal in GOG for a movie, they were ok in the USM cartoon but eh, not my cup of tea.

The only comics I read and care about now are literally Superior Spider-Man, Scarlet Spider, Deadpool, Superior Spider-Man Team Up and The 4 book mini series "Superior Carnage"... I'm also buying Thunderbolts but it's been sucking and I stopped caring about it since like issue 3 until this most recent issue which was okay.

They don't. Bendis is doing Guardians of the Galaxy, Zeb Wells is writing Nova and I think Jonathan Hickman is writing Infinity.

dronepool 08-24-2013 02:42 PM

Jonathan Hickman is good though, his FF/F4 was interesting (didn't read it all besides a few arcs but yeah)

Lock Jaw 08-24-2013 02:48 PM

Still behind on Marvel stuff. Working slowly on catching up on: Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Avengers Stuff, and X-Men Stuff. I'm still somewhere in 2010, though.

Sixx 08-28-2013 06:36 PM

I've been reading through Wolverine: Origins and I gotta say these are some fucked up books.

Starting with Logan running around with some all powerful katana in the present day and being chased by Dum Dum Dugan and S.H.I.E.L.D. for no good reason whatsoever, then it turns out he didn't actually fight alongside Rogers in WW2 as much as he was there to sell him out to the Nazis etc. I dunno, just weird ass shit.

Does anyone know how do these stories fit into the "Earth-616" universe of Marvel?

Kalyx triaD 08-28-2013 09:40 PM

It is called Origin.

No, it is called Origins. Origin is a different series.

And I remember a different Logan backstory. (Not betraying Captain America for example). Hence my fuckin' question.

Kalyx triaD 08-28-2013 09:56 PM

I don't know what you want me to say; it has Origin in the title however you wanna split hairs; it takes place in 616's past.

Retcons, man, retcons. Happen like every other week. Especially with Wolverine.

Fignuts 08-29-2013 01:51 AM

Yeah a lot of the early flashbacks we saw have been deemed "memory implants" as a way of retconning his past.

They better not have retconned uncanny x-men 268 though. One of the first x-men comics I remember owning, and one of the best issues ever. Shit had everything. Ninjas, Nazis, wolvie, cap and widow teaming up, and jubilee at her best.

Sixx 08-29-2013 06:51 AM

Gotta say I'm awfully confused as to what really happenned in the past.

If he in fact sold out Cap, why the hell Cap never mentioned it to him? Like "Yo, Logan, remember how you fuckin' helped Baron Zemo get me? Good times"

Maybe I'm giving it too much thought, whatever.

Fignuts 08-29-2013 04:12 PM

Wolverine comics are pretty hit or miss, and they excel at fucking shit up. There are some arcs that are really good like Enemy of the State, the original mini series, and Get Mystique, but I generally don't read it. Always thought wolverine worked better on a team than as a solo hero.

Kalyx triaD 08-29-2013 09:34 PM

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jsT7FhnNVwQ?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And yeah certain comic videogame news will go here unless they're big enough to warrant VG discussion. Seeing if these threads could be a 1-stop-shop of comic media.

This next phase has such a good bunch of directors, from the Russos, who by all accounts have knocked it out the park with Captain America 2 - I've seldom heard buzz from the editing room as good as that movie. Avengers 2 will be Joss Whedon's baby, and reaction to James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy has been brilliant. Even after the tough journey of two and half years making Iron Man 3 as good as it can be, I don't just have respect for Marvel as unit; I'm honored for my time there, and I'm constantly talking to them about what we do next.
- Drew Pearce, curiously still in the loop of the MCU.

He also says Cap 2 is getting a lot of buzz on the inside.

Fignuts 09-03-2013 01:48 PM

So despite the fact that Thanos is in GotG, Ronan is apparently the character that Drax has a fundamental need to kill, and who caused the tragedy in his life.

Obviously not a huge deal, but seems pointless.

Lock Jaw 09-03-2013 01:52 PM

Thanos is probably going to be in Guardians as much as he was in The Avengers.... just behind the scene masterminding stuff.

Fignuts 09-03-2013 02:18 PM

Kevin feige recently stated that while not the main villain, Thanos is playing a much larger role than he did in the Avengers.

McLegend 09-03-2013 09:00 PM

Sucks that Captain America isn't until April.

Sixx 09-08-2013 02:20 PM

Just watched all the Marvel one shots and gotta say I really enjoyed.

Short but sweet, especially liked the one with Coulson at a gas station. The Matrix effects kinda cracked me up, wouldn't expect that.

Lock Jaw 09-08-2013 04:32 PM

That reminds me to go see if I can find a copy of the Agent Carter one shot.

Sixx 09-08-2013 04:56 PM

It's supposed to be released on September 24. At least that's what wikipedia says.

Lock Jaw 09-08-2013 05:02 PM

Yeah, released with the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray. There are blu-ray rips of Iron Man 3 to be found on the interwebs, though, so I assumed it was already out.

Found one torrent of the Agent Carter one shot but it is like 3GB, which is way bigger than if you were download a full length movie. So it is probably fake/some virus. Just gonna wait.

XL 09-08-2013 05:08 PM

Isn't IM3 out tomorrow anyway?

The Destroyer 09-09-2013 04:03 PM

Came out in the UK already, so the release dates must vary region to region.

XL 09-09-2013 05:15 PM

That's why I was asking. I find it odd that we get anything early/first in the UK.

I think we got Thor in Poland before US got it.

And Australia was first to get it anyway.

McLegend 09-09-2013 07:53 PM

In the past year the UK has been getting everything first.

Don't know the official reason as to why.

Lock Jaw 09-09-2013 07:56 PM

EXTENSIVE STUDIES have shown that if it is released in the US first, the UK will be nothing but a filthy bunch of pirates and download it and then never buy it.

On the flip side, if it comes out in the UK first, there are still filthy pirates in the US, but the US sales still stay strong despite them.

Lock Jaw 09-09-2013 07:57 PM

I just made that up.

Probably true, though.

Filthy pirates.

McLegend 09-09-2013 07:58 PM

I believe it

dronepool 09-09-2013 09:14 PM

Where can I see the one shots besides torrents? Maybe a stream site? I'm guessing they're shorts?

I only own IM1, Hulk and Avengers from the MCU so yeah, just curious.

XL 09-10-2013 05:43 PM

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be shown on Channel 4 over here, totally expected it to be a satellite/cable job. Pretty stoked about that.

The Destroyer 09-11-2013 04:11 AM

Yeah and they're showing it pretty soon after it's been on in the US too, which is nice.

The only shows we get really soon after their US premiere here are the HBO shows. A 1 to 6 days delay.

The Destroyer 09-11-2013 05:25 AM

No wonder so many non-Americans download stuff online.

The UK generally isn't too bad, but there's at least one series I watch where it's running a full year behind the US. :(

Corporate CockSnogger 09-11-2013 07:04 AM

I haven't watched a show on UK tv since like 2004 or something.

The delay is one thing. The other is I can't dedicate myself to watching the shows on TV. Like, I won't change my plans to make it on time to watch TV. That and the commercials. Watching shit on my PC is way better cause I can do it whenever I please and I can just pause whenever I need a pissbreak.

Kalyx triaD 09-19-2013 02:43 AM

And it seems Agent Carter's One Shot (packed with Iron Man 3) may be something of a TV pilot in the sense that Item 47 and the Coulson One Shots evolved into Agents of SHIELD. Like SHIELD, this may be an ABC exclusive with IGN pointing out that an Agent Carter vehicle fits well with ABC's family/women demo.

The possibility of two MCU shows tingles.

Shadow 09-19-2013 09:28 AM

An Agent Carter show would be awesome.
