SlickyTrickyDamon 06-26-2021 02:22 PM

Tried it a week or two ago but the controls were too clunky for me. (Monster Hunter)

Re-played the Fable trilogy since I heard it's going to be re-booted.

Finished the main quest of Outriders.

Just beat Donut County a quick fun game.

rez 06-26-2021 08:36 PM

I picked up Mario Golf Super Rush yesterday. fun!

Sepholio 06-26-2021 10:55 PM

I've bought and tried to get into multiple different monster hunter games. I like the premise of it and the systems at play but I have never been able to get over how "stiff" the controls feel. Like your character feels heavy and slow to react.

Destor 06-26-2021 11:01 PM

stories is turnbased so ill give it a go for sure

ClockShot 06-27-2021 07:07 AM

Had Everspace kicking around my PS library and gave it a try.

Didn't like the whole "Run" concept. I knew I was going to get my ass kicked way more than I should before the game gets "fun". The whole upgrade system was a sham.

Elite Dangerous & No Man's Sky are better space games. Wanna get back into Elite so bad, but I'm waiting for the Odyssey expansion to hit consoles.

The weapon types all have a different feel and it takes some trial and error to figure out what suits your play style. Some are clunky and sluggish but theres some on the quicker end which give you more mobility. Insect Glaive is a flippyboi spot monkey. Greatsword is a slow, lumbering knockout punch. There's only like three weapons I dont totally suck with. I can't even run Sword and Shield or Bow, which you'd think would be basic and easy to pick up. Can definitely see how spending a few hours just finding a weapon style you actually enjoy could be off putting though.

drave 06-27-2021 02:52 PM

^

Exactly that. I started witha Gunlance which has long wind up times and slow animations. Played with it for a very long time. Switched to the Insect Glaive (think bo staff) and the difference was huge. Still love mah Gunlance tho.

Think of each weapon as a "different character" because literally all of your skills change.

Fignuts 06-27-2021 11:39 PM

Playing the new Dark Alliance. Pretty fun for a budget game. I grew up reading the R.A. Salvatore books, so its cool to finally play as these characters. Needs polish in some areas, but there's lots of potential here.

Also commendable that they using the Witcher 3 model for dlc. No microtransactions whatsoever. Just large paid expansions with free new content sprinkled in between. You love to see it.

Ruien 06-28-2021 08:01 AM

Was so pumped for Dark Alliance but then it looked meh. The reviews then came to be meh.

Is there a story mode or is it just a online destroy everything game?

drave 06-28-2021 09:31 AM

Big story mode. Its alright. Started off as Drizzt but changed up to the Dwarf Tank and its much more suited for my playstyle.

Just wish they'd let you swap gear mid-level.

Sepholio 07-04-2021 03:12 AM

Currently playing Scarlet Nexus. Story is one of those insanely complex scifi stories that technically makes sense...if you can even follow it. But I really don't care about that at this point because this game has something else going for it: One of the most fun combat systems I have ever experienced. The amount of non stop fast paced madness and detailed combinations you can dish out at lightning speeds is just incredible, and yet it never feels like you are out of control or just button mashing. Yes you can get to a point where you are just plowing through enemies with ease but if you do it's because of skill and timing, not because you are overpowered or it got easy suddenly. You can obliterate a 5 pack of an enemy in 3 seconds, or you can get wrecked by a single one of them almost as fast if you botch your plan. Every battle feels exciting as such, even ones that are over in seconds. Just tons of fun imo.

Tom Guycott 07-08-2021 02:31 AM

So, I finally bit the bullet thanks almost entirely to the announcement of Advance Wars 1+2 and got myself a Switch (pretty much before it somehow becomes scarce around Christmas time again). Didn't want a vanilla looking console, and found myself a Monster Hunter version. Any top recommendations of shit I should get (besides the inevitable BotW mentions)?

ClockShot 07-08-2021 06:49 AM

Played Maquette. Dumbest puzzle game I played in a while. I'm curious to know what Bryce Dallas Howard got paid for like 10 minutes of voice work.

Every game listed here is excellent and I second them all. Golf Story in particular is incredibly charming and unique and one of my favorite indie games ever. Not anything else quite like it out there.

Sepholio 07-08-2021 04:02 PM

Finished the first campaign of scarlet nexus. Gonna break it up with some dark alliance before diving into the second.

Played the first couple levels of Dark Alliance and it's not bad. Was expecting way worse from reviews, but my personal enjoyment of it may have something to do with the fact that I played and actually had fun with the trainwreck that is Godfall. They are very similar games tbh. Chose Drizz't as my character because it's mfing Drizz't, yo. Realized already that I probably made the wrong choice for what is going to be a solo run but I refuse to give in and switch and will grind my way through it. Just have to adapt a more souls like hit and run approach.

RP 07-09-2021 03:40 AM

Still playing Ghost of Tsushima and it is everything I thought it would be. I'm about 60% through and its one of the most incredible games i've ever played.

Sepholio 07-09-2021 08:36 PM

Yeah Drizz't for sure not the choice for single player in DA. I've got me a game plan now and i can get through the battles but some of them take an exceedingly long time as I dart in and out for minimal damage trying to rebuild my ultimate. Upgrading all the main potions has been a big help, as well the extra consumable capacity upgrade I will get after the next level I run. The main issue now is it is very much a slog going through a stage on some of the higher difficulties needed for better lewtz. Ah well, back to the grind.

ClockShot 07-10-2021 07:18 AM

Moved on to Maneater.

If I don't hear Hall & Oates during my playthrough, I'm going to be really disappointed.

drave 07-10-2021 11:08 AM

Maneater pretty fun.

@Seph, use the Dwarf :D He hits hard and is tanky AF. Especially like the shield slams, but also enjoyed being a DPS tank when I played WoW

Sepholio 07-10-2021 12:49 PM

No I must see this through. Drizz't is a legend and shant be toppled.

I have made it to the 4th set of stages, the ones where the lichs I guess are. Uhg. Shit just got real.

RP 07-10-2021 04:51 PM

A few days ago i bought Spiderman, Dead Cells and Dead by Daylight

Just beat the campaign of Gears of War 5, or "Gears".

Started slow but once I hit the 3 hour mark, shit picked up and I couldn't put it down.

On to Hivebusters!

DAMN iNATOR 07-11-2021 09:52 AM

Finished SoR4 yesterday. Not sure if I'll go for all the trophies for clearing all stages with the different characters or not, due to the story being underwhelming and the final boss fight feeling anti-climactic AF.

Fignuts 07-11-2021 09:59 AM

You fight a gigantic mecha. How is that anti climactic?

Also, it's a beat em up. If you went in with high expectations for the story, that's on you.

Destor 07-11-2021 10:58 AM

Thanks for the reccs, fellas.

I feel weird that I forgot Bloodstained (both of them) was available for Switch. Much like SotN, I have no compunctions with buying again for sheer portability.

In the meanwhile, I have wandered onto the "state sanctioned" NES emulator and have been playing an ungodly amount of Wario's Woods. Haven't played that in prob'ly at least a literal decade. At least. Too bad there's no Pipe Dream. I can safely say I played that game more than Tetris way back when.

Spider-Man for PS4 is incredible.

It's melded the collecting stuff, photo taking and crime stopping into new suits that have awesome looks and abilities. The swinging mechanic is literally something I can do all day without even doing anything else. And I even love the puzzles in Doc Octs lab. And the storyline so far has been amazing.

I'm only 20 % into the game because I literally feel like i'm Spider-Man when i play the game and i'm just doing lots of different things.

I havent unlocked research tokens yet or maybe i'm doing something wrong.

What a fantastic game!

The suits are fantastic, but Web Blossom is a no brainer that I use everytime I fight. I do change the suits thought when i just go swinging. Especially at night.

Tom Guycott 07-13-2021 02:22 AM

LOL @ Tecmo Bowl removing all the names of the players. I get that the Player's Association deal expired ages ago, but they didn't even give it the Tecmo Super Bowl treatment of placeholders... just their number, a dash, and a big blank. No scroll down at the title screen for the team listings. Not even name scroll for whoever scores a touchdown, either. Just goes from "Touchdown" to the score.

Good thing I remember which guy is Ronnie Lott when on D.

No Hall & Oates. :'(

Downloaded the demo for Samurai Warriors 5. I already bought the digital version and any stuff saved from the demo gets carried over to the main game. So, I'll put some miles on that before it comes out next week.

Sepholio 07-21-2021 03:18 PM

Just finished playing through Ender Lilies. Above average metroidvania affair. Think a slightly toned down (read: easier) and shorter Hollowknight and you'll know what to expect. About 15-20 hrs to 100% everything other than maxing skills because that would literally take years in this game.

Shadow of War.

Forgot how satisfying the combat can be in this game.

Feel it's more difficult than souls games as there's no rpg mechanics to buff you up. It's all pure skill.

No fuckin lie there. They don't tell you a god damn thing. They're like "here's the map, go die."

Shit, August and September going to be great gaming months. Diablo II Resurrected comes out too, which I pre-ordered. Love me some Diablo.

Now they just need to "modernize" 1 by letting you run and stuff, and release it with Hellfire and we're good.

Fignuts 07-27-2021 08:42 PM

Playing the Mr X Nightmare dlc for Streets of Rage 4. Outstanding expansion at a great value for only 7 bucks. 3 new characters, new weapons, and new moves for all the characters, even the old school sprite ones.

The big highlights are an excellent training mode that teaches you combos for each character, and gives you the ability to spawn all the enemies in a free mode.

Then there's survival, which basically turns the game into a roguelike. Randomized stages and enemies, and you get to choose a buff after clearing each stage. Ton of fun, and as the primary mode for unlocking all the new content, it adds lots of replay value.

drave 07-28-2021 09:12 AM

I think everyone in the fucking world of Sekiro has Dragonrot now. I haven't even gotten past the 2nd boss, the General on the horse. I have negative $$$ in the game from dying so much :D

Sooooooooooooooo fucking rewarding when you do get past a hard point though.

I've come extremely close. This shit should have Tekken like slo-mo's of hitporn.

Fallout 4 and started just a new play of Morrowind.

So far like 4 waaay more than 3.

drave 07-28-2021 09:30 AM

4 is reeeeeeeeeally good, IMO. Honestly, it seems like one of the most "realistic" stories that could have things occur IRL. It gets hate for being action heavy, but that is not a bad problem in a long RPG.

Get the DLC if you can, at least Far Harbor. Nuka World is alright too, but Far Harbor is the shit as far as content.

That makes one of us. I feel like 4 had interesting new ideas, just executed very poorly. I also didn't like that the protagonists speak and that the dialogue system is such dog shit. Also, a lot of the main story didn't feel that compelling, same for a lot of the side quests, except maybe the Silver Shroud one, literally the only side quest I can recall by name without looking it up, you don't have to worry about your weapon's condition anymore as they don't have them anymore...oh, and Preston Garvey. Fuck that guy. That's why the last thing I ever did before deleting it forever was to put him in a long red dress and a red woman's hat and made him harvest vegetables in Sanctuary. M-A-G 07-30-2021 10:26 AM

OK, so I took an inventory of what I own in regards to games and I have a ridiculous list of titles that I either have started but haven't finished or haven't touched at all. What do you think I should tackle first:

Assassin's Creed 2 (still in the middle)
Doom Eternal (still in the middle)
Darksiders 2 (haven't started)
Bioshock Infinite (haven't started)
Murdered: Soul Suspect (still in the middle)
Remember Me (still in the middle)
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light (still in the middle)
Metro: Last Light (still in the middle)
Marvel's Avengers (still in the middle)
Dead Space (still in the middle)
Dying Light (still in the middle)

I honestly wouldn't have even bothered with Dying Light because I hate open world games but it was a present so I feel like I have an obligation to it. I'm just pissed at myself for letting such a backlog pile up. :o

Fignuts 07-30-2021 03:40 PM

Doom Eternal, definitely.

Then the two dlc expansions. They're very good.

ClockShot 07-30-2021 04:36 PM

Murdered is quick to finish. Whereas if you are an Assassins' Creed completionist, might take you a little longer.

Been rediscovering RDR in all it's glory via PS Now. It's been quite the trip down memory lane rembering all the NPCs, the story, strangers missions, locations and all of the cool side shit you can do.

Currently trying to get random blue dot ( 🔵 ) opportunities to present themselves as I'm going after max high or max low honor + max game trophy. I don't know if anyone will have the answer, is it possible to gain fame after the story, as John's son, Jack? I can't imagine it wouldn't be, but don't want to complete the story and lock myself out of a trophy.

Also did a little bit of Sea of Thieves for the sake of one of my friends. I swear there's a laundry list of games I'd never touch if it weren't for other people I know.

Hades

The hype is well deserved. Excellent roguelite.

Same. I liked Sea of Thieves at launch for all of about a month. The sailing was kinda zen and I liked the aimless exploration. Of course, that all ended when I started running into other pirates. A lot. And this is one of those games that actively encourages you to be an asshole to strangers in ways that feel disrespectful of invested time. Not nearly as bad as Dark Zone in The Division, but still not really my thing. And I have a friend who will not and has not shut up about it. Especially now with the Pirates of the Caribbean stuff.

30 years since the Super Nintendo...feels like I should honor it by doing a marathon of some of my favorites.

Wiping Torment XVI content in less than 5 mins with a crusader on Diablo III. Was going for a shotgun build, but ended up going with a dual Fist of the Heavens build, which is insane. Fucking item makes the damage 1,000x and casts twice. Literally saw a crit for over a trillion for the first time yesterday.

Still on Samurai Warriors 5. Getting close to where I'm about to put it down and take a break for a little while. Still a blast.

Thinking about grabbing the Iki Island DLC for Ghost of Tsushima and getting back into that.
