FLCL is pretty good overall.
Only 6 episodes overall so very little time investment needed although Fignuts is right about that show being the multi-watch type because of how random stuff gets at time. |
Had a lot of people talking on it's first adult swim run, but beyond that it's not mainstream popular.
|
Started watching One Punch Man. Pretty fucking great. Does for shonen what Gurren Lagan did for big robot anime.
|
Finished the season.
Fuck great, this show is brilliant. |
Gonna catch it. Too many people saying the same thing.
|
First episode of the new Berserk is out. Picks up where the last one left off, with the black swordsman stuff.
They use this cg cel shade animation. Takes a little getting used to, but I don't mind it, as the action scenes still look incredible, and I'm guessing it costs a lot less, which is allowing this to happen in the first place. Still brutal as fuck. Hell, Casca's rape is in the opening credits, ffs. |

Murokumuro on Netflix is pretty cool if anybody's got a membership and a thing for mechs and Japanese lore.
|
Sure you spelled that right? Not seeing anything.
|
Oops. First M should be a K. Kuromukuro.
Sucks they're neighbors on the keyboard. |
Started watching The Seven Deadly Sins. Not bad, but was just surprised at
SPOILER: show Good stuff. Only trouble I'm having is that since I lack Netflix anymore, my "source" is cohabitated by multiple links of unlabled dubs and subs with no way to tell which one you're going to see without trial and error. |
Synopsis for new FLCL
In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. Enter Hidomi, a young teenaged girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock. But why did Haruko return to Earth? What happened to her Rickenbacker 4001 she left with Naota? And where did the human-type robot ‘Canti’ go? Honestly don't really feel great about this. First series ended perfectly, and no one who worked on it is coming back. |
Worth it for new stuff from the Pillows.
|
Ok, the original article didn't state this, but apparently yes, the pillows are coming back, along with the character designer, director, and original voice cast.
Online journalism. So that makes me feel a lot better. |

I still play Stalker like its new |
Crazy Sunshine is probably my fav.
|
Give me new Samurai Champloo and/or Cowboy Bebop plz.
There were a few videos I rented back in the "Red Giraffe" days called Violence Jack that were also very good. |
You named two animes that story wise cannot continue.
|
He sure did but they were still great and could do with something. Cowboy Bebop could easily be brought back in the form of filler side story episodes, which is what most of it was anyways.
I would have liked more Death Note. Deadman Wonderland also needs to come back with moar. |
Started Tokyo Goul. Pretty good, but I don't see how it's getting praise up there with Attack on Titan and One Punch Man.. Good dub though.
|
Watched The Adventures of Sinbad on Netflix. Part of that big Magi series that's running.
I enjoyed it. |
Quote:
Bullshit. They can always make shit up and be like "Yo, this was before the original." |
Eehhh... Bebop I can buy a prequel. Not so much Samuari Champloo. They started that story at the beginning.
Though, I can kinda see doing a different story. Maybe even throw anachronism on a different era of time. However, that has the potential of tarnishing what the original did if not done perfectly right. Best to leave well enough alone. |
I've been getting into anime as of late. so far, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, Black Butler is my favorite right now.
|
You gotta expand your horizons!
|
New Seven Deadly Sins up on netflix. "Season 2" is more just bonues eps than an actual S2. STILL VERY WELCOME. Great show. These 4 eps will def keep me happy until the true next season drops. (That manga needs to hurry up.)

Sony is buying 95% of Funimation for $143 million. Gen Fukunaga keeps the rest and his title.
How this affects the current Funimation/Crunchyroll partnership is unknown right now. http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/07/...tor-funimation |
Funimation is... inexpensive.
|
Very inexpensive. Yesh.
|
I'm starting to think major companies are simply not worth as much as I grew up believing cause I hear some wacky low numbers they get purchased for. Like... there's been lottery pots that would have made me eligible to buy Capcom like holy shit.
|
Price-wise seems about right since Funimation only handled licenses and some dubs for anime shows.
Probably also a lot cheaper to buy them than Crunchyroll who has a ton more licenses under their control. Guess on the bright side, at least they are worth more than a few years ago. According to Wikipedia, they were only worth around $24 million when sold in 2011. |
The app has offered a lot of room for growth and sony is great at distribution so this is a huge win

My hero academia is so good

Reading the Dragon Ball Super Manga and hot shit it is SOOOOOOOO much better than the anime. Has a lot of extra scenes and dialogue that give a lot more depth to the characters and situations they are in. Entire fights that weren't in the anime, and a lot that were have different results. It also takes pretty much all the nonsensical bullshit in the anime and completely scraps it. Stuff like trunks getting some random power up with no explanation to beat zamasu is totally removed for a scene where he gets his ass kicked trying to buy goku time, but keeps getting up. That might disappoint the edgelords out there, but it simultaneously adds a lot more to the character, and makes a hell of a lot more sense.
If that weren't enough, the anime has really shoddy animation at times, whereas the manga has fantastic art throughout. If you're at all interested in Super, I definitely recommend the manga, as it seems like the true sequel to the story, whereas the anime feels more like thrown together fan service. |
Lots of nice touches in the manga too. For instance in the anime, they show goku and vegeta training on kami's lookout. You get a nice tussle and some dialogue, and then it cuts away. You get a little more in the manga.

SPOILER: show |
Also I want to state I cried, quite a bit of how the last episode ended.
|
Love super. It takes what made DB so great (goofy character arcs) and melds it with what made DBZ such a hit (huge fights.)
Its a wonderful successor to DB that doesnt run off DBZ fans. I didnt hate DBZ or anything but DB>DBS>DBGT>DBZ Stories over battles for me is all. Liked DBZ a lot tho. DB was just the best....might rewatch it.... |
So much good anime coming out this year btw. Not even sure what to plug
|
Have no desire to watch the Dragonball Super anime, but I guess I could check out the manga....
|
The anime version of Super has been pretty good overall but the current survival tournament arc would have been a lot better with fewer people per team and/or better pacing.
|
While I prefer the manga, I have to give props to the old lady who does goku's voice. The Goku Black voice was phenomenal, and just dripping with menace.
|
Has anyone gotten into buying production cels? I have a couple.
|
|
Man I need episode 121 to hurry up and drop. Then I'm gonna be pissed because there is a week off before the next episode which is where I think things are going to start getting extra intense.
|
Watching Ancient Magus' Bride
Not 100% in love with it but it crafts a very good world. |
Finished up the first half Fate/Apocrypha on Netflix. Not digging it this time around unlike the other Fate spin-offs. 2nd half should wrap up in a few weeks and show up on Netflix.
|
Easily my least fav fate run. Still solid
|
I think I'm going to go back and watch the 2 Record of the Lodoss War series. Still have a soft-spot for them as they were my initiation into anime.
|
I must have watched The Devil is a Part-Timer all the way thru 5 times over the years. Just one season but one of the most delightful anime. I'd beg for another season.
|
Goku vs Caulifla and Kale is one of the best fights in the series history.
|
Lol at more vegetable names
|
I mean I'd be more suprised if they didn't have vegetable names for new saiyans.

I've got High School of the Dead on in the background while I'm editing stuff in Fire Pro and it's such hot garbage lol
"If what you said is true, we're gonna need some weapons." "What about you?" "It's ok. I know karate." aaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha |
Also, show has been on 10 minutes and I've seen this bitch's panties like 5 times. Show is really heavy on fan service lol
|
Some nice and brutal violence though, I'll give it that.
|
High svhool of the dead is great BECAUSE its absurd
|
aw they didn't show the creep at the gas station getting eaten.
|
This violent grindhouse anime suddenly turned into a harem show.
What even is this? |
I think I might watch Wolf's Rain again. Very underrated IMO. Love pretty much every one of the Studio BONES animes I've ever seen.
|
"Something good happened. I realized we're still human beings after all."
"Shut up" lol |
K, I might actually love this show for how unabashedly dumb it is.
|
Thats the only reaction allowed lol

and so nice they showed it thrice I am really enjoying the Dynamic between Goku and a certain Tryant on his on his team its like this weird hate crush |

And for a Battle Royal where the fate of their universe depends on winning no one seems to care about eliminating people. |

Yeah, I don't go in looking for a whole lot of depth. Just cool fights, and some fun moments between these characters that I followed so religiously when I was younger.
One thing I do really like is how it takes characters who haven't been relevant in decades, and gives them moments to shine. |
Like who? (Other than Frieza)

Edit: Wait that's kinda the only saga I watched the whole way through. Quote:

Like I'm not saying they're on Goku or Vegeta's level, but there is far more attention given to them than they ever got in Z.
Most of the time they were just background scenery. Or there to die. Piccolo was a little more relevant, but really, outside of a couple power ups which both became useless a few episodes later, he didn't do much outside of training Gohan. This series just treats the secondary characters better, and gives them cool moments, like Krillen getting established as a strategic expert and his fight with goku, or literally all Master Roshi's scenes in the survival tournament. |
Android 17 became my favorite everything when he one-shot that hippie transformation sequence
Krillin and 18's volleyball move is still one of the most badass moments in the whole arc |

A couple of Cels I have on my wall, from Ranma ½ & a superobscure wrestling OVA called WannaBe's

It started with my new Xbox One X. I downloaded Tales from the Badlands and loved it, now I want more animation in my life. So I get on Netflix and watch Wolfenstein.... fucking awesome. I even watched One Punch Man last night and loved that, wish it was in English but whatever it was dope.
So I like really rich animation, very adult and detailed, I prefer not to hear 20 thousand explosions per hour, and really enjoy the deeper themes while having the action still take focus. Any suggestions for me? Something on Netflix preferably, or Hulu/Amazon/HBO. |
I LOVE ONE PUNCH. Dubbed is best imo
As far as recommendations .hack//sign Seven deadly sins Gurren lagann Soul eater Blue exorcist Death note Any of the fate series. Wiki them and figure out which is first...great show... All on netflix i believe Many others... |
Also the funimation app is worth the money
|
Also not anime but the hbo animated spawn series...
|
Oh full metal alchemist: brotherhood
Far better than vanilla full metal (vanilla was released before the manga finished so they improvised their own ending...dont recommend...its good but brotherhood is the superior version) |
I watched .hack//sign back in the day and liked it.... but I remember trying to rewatch it once and I found it unbearable.......
One day I would still like to finish the video game series..... played the first two games.... |

Seriously am I the only one that watched Godzilla:Planet of Monsters?
|
I tried. I love godzilla but digital animation turns me off
|
I thought the digital animation in Gundam the Origin looked good, but besides that, I haven't been a fan either.
|
This animation looks really good (though I completely understand wanting traditional hand-drawn animation)And besides it couldve been soooooo much worse see:Berserk 2016-17
I enjoyed it overall a few really minor gripes But the ending has me excited to see just how they'll deal with this incarnation of Godzilla who seems ridiculously unstoppable |
That Godzilla anime is pretty good once you get past the animation. Holy shit at the reveal at the end.
|

did you stick around after the credits? |
There is a Godzilla animated movie?
Looks like I know what I'm watching this weekend. |
