How does the DC Universe service compare to Marvel Unlimited? I know their library is less substantial, but before I try it I’d like to know how much less substantial it actually is.

Lock Jaw 12-28-2018 08:49 PM

No idea, really.... not available in Canada and haven't read much past the initial announcements and descriptions. Which made it sound like it was just a handful of series and then eventually they take things off and add new things.

slik 01-02-2019 03:04 AM

Heroes In Crisis issue 4 was really good. Great character moments + a big twist at the end. You finally see the scope of why it's a crisis.

slik 01-02-2019 03:23 AM

I think the art in the series might be among my favorite ever in a comic, overall. Each panel is so full of mood, texture and story. Clay Mann is an incredible artist.

Fignuts 01-02-2019 05:09 AM

The art is fantastic. Dunno about the story. I dig the sanctuary concept, and the confessions leak could be interesting.

No idea where they are going with the murder mystery part though. Also, I missed some very important context because why is Batgirl running around with Harley after she's just murdered a bunch of people?

slik 01-02-2019 08:45 AM

Because she thinks she's innocent and can help her find out what really happened. Same for Booster/Blue Beetle.

slik 01-02-2019 08:57 AM

Read Action Comics #1006.

Bendis has a big development for Jimmy Olsen

SPOILER: show

Jimmy Olsen slept w/ Talia Al Ghul and she's trying to get hold of him. Talia and her Leviathan organization taking over Metropolis is supposed to be the next major arc in Action Comics.

slik 01-10-2019 03:27 AM

I really enjoyed Young Justice #1 by Bendis.

It was fun and action-packed. Jinny Hex seems like she will be a really cool character. So glad to see Connor Kent back. Tactile Telekinesis was always a really good superpower imo.

Kalyx triaD 01-10-2019 07:30 AM

How does Conner fit in a universe with a new Superboy already flying around? Superteen?

slik 01-10-2019 08:47 AM

Guess we'll find out!

Lock Jaw 01-11-2019 12:05 AM

I read Young Justice..... I was a big fan of the original series, and have the whole run "back at home"....

New one just seems.... I dunno.... in the original series all the characters and their continuity was "defined".... you knew these characters and how they fit into the world.... now there are just so many questions about the timeline/continuity/whatever......

Lock Jaw 01-11-2019 12:06 AM

I haven't been to the comic shop in a bit so I haven't read the past few Heroes in Crisis, or seen what Bendis has done to Jon Kent...... I hope he hasn't permanently ruined him.....

slik 01-11-2019 12:28 AM

So far Jon just started puberty and is about the same size as Connor Kent

slik 01-11-2019 12:28 AM

Also, it's only been 1 issue of YJ. You gotta give it several to see where this going. Can't have all the answers to all the things in issue 1.

Yeah, but that's kind of what I am saying..... first issues of the old YJ came at a "perfect moment", you already "knew everything". Robin/Superboy/Impulse.... you knew them and what their deals were. Then when Wonder Girl/Arrowette/Secret came along I guess I knew less, but they pretty much immediately put out a "Secret Origins" special that sorted it all out.

I'm by no means saying the new one is bad..... I'm just... ummm... saying things

Lock Jaw 01-11-2019 12:44 AM

I hope he explains why Tim Drake went back to Robin, and also doesn't ignore Tim Drake's whole story arc/character growth from his excellent run in Detective Comics......

slik 01-15-2019 01:25 PM

Lock Jaw going to be very unhappy

Bendis has changed Jonathan Kent to being 17 years old. In the comics he was gone for 3 weeks but he says he's been gone 7 years bc he got stuck in a black hole before escaping back to the present.

Lock Jaw 01-15-2019 04:08 PM

Yeah, that sounds terrible if it isn't reversed somehow.....

slik 01-16-2019 01:04 AM

Rumor is Bendis is doing a Legion of Super-Heroes book and Jonathan Kent needed to be aged so he could leave current DCU to join the Legion in the future and be the same age as the other characters - And rumored Bendis wants Connor Kent as the Super Boy of current DCU in his Young Justice series.

Lock Jaw 01-23-2019 11:01 PM

Just read the first issue of Bendis' new "Naomi" series..... seems interesting....

Also finally read the first two issues of the new Shazam! book..... seems like a lot of fun....

Lock Jaw 01-30-2019 09:47 PM

After many "he won't be Batman" rumours, it is finally 100% confirmed that Ben Affleck will not be in Matt Reeves' "The Batman" movie.

Also, it is looking highly likely that James Gunn will not only write, but also direct the Suicide Squad sequel, which is now officially called "The Suicide Squad"

DC sure likes adding "The" to their titles of late

Fignuts 01-30-2019 10:33 PM

Read through Gail Simone’s Clean Room. So much potential, but it ended prematurely because people are shit and don’t buy good comics.

Fignuts 01-30-2019 10:34 PM

Like fucks sake, spider-woman has been cancelled like 3 times, and every time it was awesome.

So, Suicide Squad, and it’s sequel The Suicide Squad. :wtf:

Lock Jaw 01-31-2019 02:56 PM

Reports now say it will be a "soft reboot" with mostly new characters.

Damian Rey 2.0 01-31-2019 03:03 PM

Yeah that what's I read. Interesting nonetheless.

Lock Jaw 01-31-2019 06:09 PM

All the DC CW shows have received a renewal for next season.

Woo! More Legends of Tomorrow!!

Kalyx triaD 01-31-2019 10:09 PM

I wondered why more villains don't come out of the Source Wall.

Lock Jaw 02-14-2019 08:46 PM

Watching Titans because I actually heard good things about it.....

Dunno though.... two episodes in... so far Raven seems good and everything else bad...

Robin just impaled a guy through the dick.....

slik 02-14-2019 09:53 PM

I also enjoyed 1st issue of Naomi

Enjoying Shazam comic so far, very fun

1st issue of Wonder Twins was a breath of fresh air and funny

Lock Jaw 02-19-2019 08:15 PM

Jimmy Olson and Lois Lane are getting their own comic book series again starting in June!

Jimmy Olson will be written by Matt Fraction, and Lois Lane by Greg Rucka.

Lock Jaw 02-21-2019 11:51 PM

Finished watching "Titans"..... Dunno how it got good reviews.... overall it is not as big of a mess as Marvel's Inhumans, but it is still pretty "not good".....

I liked the episode with the Doom Patrol, though.... I think the Doom Patrol show could be good.... I hope it comes to Netflix too....

Seanny One Ball 02-22-2019 03:26 AM

Are you gonna give Umbrella Academy a go?!

Please do, it's so good.

Lock Jaw 02-22-2019 11:36 AM

Yeah... put it on the list after seeing some of your comments...

Also realizing that I have no willpower and will totally still check out Titans season 2 when it comes out.....

Seanny One Ball 02-22-2019 11:44 AM

What else is on the list? Should I check out Punisher or anything else next?

Lock Jaw 02-22-2019 11:55 AM

On Netflix I still need/want to check out:

- Punisher Season 2
- Daredevil Season 3
- The Back half of the new/last Kimmy Schmidt
- The latest season of Orange is the New Black
- A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 and 3

Not enough time in the day for everything.

Seanny One Ball 02-22-2019 12:39 PM

It's a good dilemma to have

slik 02-28-2019 01:03 AM

Cool scene in Heroes in Crisis 6 w/ Harley Quinn w/ multiple dead bodies of

SPOILER: show

The Joker

slik 02-28-2019 01:07 AM

Bendis goes out of his way to mention there being 7 Crises again in Action Comics this week, he's brought this up in Young Justice too...

And Naomi's next couple issues are supposed to reveal her ties to the mulitiverse and Bendis has said it's something new that he hopes will affect the DCU for years.

I wonder if Bendis is eventually setting up all his various books to his own big event, tied to the reason behind their being 7 crises maybe? Maybe Naomi, w/e her secret is, Gemworld, Young Justice, Leviathan, Justice League involved?

slik 02-28-2019 01:08 AM

Last week's Aquaman was so good. Introduced a whole new pantheon of sea gods and gave the DCU a new 'origin' of creation from it. Very cool art. Would 100% recommend.

Lock Jaw 02-28-2019 01:48 AM

Very behind in Justice League.... still haven't read the Drowned Earth thing.... which means I am behind in Aquaman too....

Probably won't pick up the newest Heroes in Crisis until next week, because a new Doomsday Clock is coming out then, so I might as well wait another week before going to the local comic bookery

slik 02-28-2019 08:33 AM

Shazam #3 good

King Kid seems like he might be 'nefarious' and 'devious' but whole book is very colorful/fun/charming

slik 03-06-2019 09:14 AM

UGH @ Bendis for this :n:

SPOILER: show

Connor Kent now is married and has a kid via Young Justice #3...can Bendis just chill on all the Super family shakeups for a bit.

Lock Jaw 03-06-2019 07:51 PM

Season 8 of Arrow will be its last, and consist of 10 episodes.

Kalyx triaD 03-06-2019 09:45 PM

Why can't they call him that joker?

Kalyx triaD 04-02-2019 02:18 AM

Some horseshit WB's always been on regarding how they handle TV and movie representations of characters. They have been at this for a looooong time, despite countless examples of inconsistencies.

Tom Guycott 04-02-2019 02:43 AM

Didn't they also specifically go out of their way to not call Batman Batman when referenced in Arrow (ie: "that lunatic in Gotham City")? I don't understand why some characters are so sacrosanct but others are shoehorned in or namedropped incessantly.

I mean, I *get* the issues Marvel had with stuff like that, given the history of divided rights, but DC seems to just impose these restrictions arbitrarily among whatever project they're putting out, be it theatrical, live action TV, or various animated incarnations.

Dunno

Damian Rey 2.0 04-25-2019 02:27 AM

They cut filming on that show 3 episodes early and apparently their universe is in question according to my Facebook feed

mitchables 04-25-2019 02:32 AM

it's not that grim; it's 'in question' only because it may get absorbed into the broader warner bros streaming service to consolidate the subscriber base. plenty of reports note the dcu service itself is outpacing the expectations they had for it. if they keep up the quality found in doom patrol then opening the service up to a wider potential audience shouldn't be a bad thing

to be totally honest i don't really care what happens to the service or any of the other shows, so long as doom patrol survives on some platform for many seasons to come

Damian Rey 2.0 04-26-2019 01:15 AM

Fair enough. I've not watched anything from them, tbh.

mitchables 04-26-2019 01:29 AM

doom patrol is honestly one of the best shows being produced right now period

titans was good - i was really stoked on it when it first landed - but doom patrol made me readjust my scale somewhat. still, i feel like titans' next season has the potential to be really great.

Lock Jaw 04-26-2019 03:58 PM

Titans was "not good" in my opinion. Will still watch next season because... I dunno.... in its "not good"ness, it has something that is like.... "I want to see how weird and not good this is"

Got a bunch of Doom Patrol on my DVR now... I should start it.... They were good on Titans

Damian Rey 2.0 04-27-2019 02:47 AM

The crusty bald old fart they casted as Bruce Wayne in titans is....uninspiring

Kalyx triaD 04-27-2019 03:26 AM

That guy is actually pretty decent.

Damian Rey 2.0 04-28-2019 01:12 AM

I'm sure he's a decent enough actor. But as Bruce Wayne? Meh as far as look goes.

Kalyx triaD 04-28-2019 12:21 PM

The last four Bruce Waynes didn't look like Bruce Wayne.

Damian Rey 2.0 04-28-2019 10:53 PM

Affleck looked more like Wayne than any of them. And I'm not arguing for or against the previous castings. That's irrelevant. I'm saying I don't like this castingbecause, to me, I can't buy him as Bruce Wayne.

Lock Jaw 04-29-2019 12:30 AM

I thought they cast Iain Glen as Bruce Wayne.... he's old and crusty, but he isn't bald?

Damian Rey 2.0 04-29-2019 01:57 AM

Tis thinning quite a bit. Maybe he'll be good. Who knows. I just personally don't care for the casting.

https://amp.businessinsider.com/imag...66-960-480.jpg

https://i1.wp.com/viralhare.com/wp-c...pg?w=620&ssl=1

i can deal with it

Damian Rey 2.0 04-29-2019 08:24 PM

He looks kinda like grizzled Adam West. Like, if the West version of Batman had to deal with Heath Ledger joker, this what'd he look like.

mitchables 04-29-2019 10:18 PM

that's not a photo of him in any upcoming titans or anything btw; that's from a show called cleverman, but i posted it mostly because most people would only be familiar with him as scruffy and super-dirty-lookin' as jorah, whereas he actually scrubs up quite well when he shaves and dons a suit.

and i know that pic of bruce is from batman beyond/is thus a bit older than he should be in 'contemporary' times, but i don't really mind that they're going for a slightly older bruce. makes enough sense to pass muster; dick is 28-29 at the start of the series. he was 12 when bruce took him in and started training him as robin, so he's been doing it for 16-17 years.

we know bruce was 25 when he took on the batman mantle. depending on your source, he was anywhere from two to five years in when he took in dick, so aged 27-30. add 17 years, and he'd be anywhere from 44-47 now.

iain glen, at 57, is admittedly a fair shot older than that, but w/e - it's not totally outrageous/nonsensical casting, is all i'm saying. i am not convinced either, but i won't totally write it off until i see it, at least

Damian Rey 2.0 04-29-2019 11:57 PM

He very well may be great. I had to sell myself on Affleck b Bale and Keaton and I enjoyed all of their work. So it could work.

Damian Rey 2.0 04-30-2019 12:07 AM

And if he's good I'll eat crow
