Feel like people are underselling how ridiculous it sounds to hand over your phone to the bumbling fumbling NFL. Gisele's tits would be all over the Internet the next week.

#1-norm-fan 07-28-2015 11:07 PM

Wanting him to hand over his cell phone is a definite invasion of privacy.

The man is clearly guilty as shit though. He broke the rules and he's getting punished. It's pretty cut and dry.

Nark Order 07-28-2015 11:19 PM

Yeah. But not really though. You can try to make it sound as serious as you want but it is pretty much a non-issue that had no real impact on the conclusion of the game. It is pretty infuriating to watch as a rational human being.

Nark Order 07-28-2015 11:21 PM

People don't like Tom Brady because he is a good football player. Everybody is making a large issue of this because of who he is and not because of what he did. That's what it comes down to.

#1-norm-fan 07-28-2015 11:30 PM

If it didn't have any real impact on the game (which I agree, it probably didn't) then that makes him breaking the rules even more retarded and he deserves to be punished for being a fucking moron.

Brady's ban would have then dropped to at least two games and possibly one. It appears Brady is dead-set on taking the NFL to court to get his suspension wiped out completely or he's going to take the heat and sit the four games.

From Rotoworld on a supposed deal NFL offered to Brady. Wanted him to take full blame for everything regardless on how shaky the Wells report itself was with Deflategate. Then apologize to Goodell probably for both Deflategate and trying to upstage his authority with the legal threats. Doing all of that still wouldn't guarantee a reduction since Goodell still reserved the right to deny the appeal but keep the admission. Since he didn't the league is now "suing" him to get a federal court ruling on their side and prevent Brady's case from happening in a more player-friendly court.

I'm convinced he'll perform well again if Brady's four-game suspension sticks. New England does an outstanding job of preparing young players and Garoppolo showed good decision-making last season. He isn't afraid to throw the ball downfield and we're talking about a coach, in Bill Belichick, who milked an 11-win season out of Matt Cassel.

NFL Network released a ranking of all the back up QBs in the league and Garoppolo got ranked #4. Odd dig at Peyton though.

That doesn't seem good unless they have an exception for teams with similar color jerseys.

I was at some Hawks vs. Knicks game and the Knicks wore orange jerseys while the Hawks wore red and it was really annoying to watch.

Yeesh...what an eyesore.

I assume the NFL would either make a team wear white in those instances or have a team wear an alt jersey with a different color scheme or something. Like a Bengals/Steelers game if the Bengals are on the road, they'd need to wear their orange jersey, not a black one.

road doggy dogg 07-29-2015 09:23 AM

Yeah I could see that being awful if no stipulations are added. So many teams have red, or blue jerseys. If it's Green Bay and Baltimore or something then whatever, but if it's two red teams then one should have to wear an alternate if they go that route.

Although I must say I watched a Royals/Blue Jays game earlier this season with Toronto wearing their blues and KC wearing this baby blue colour and it looked pretty cool

Brady<s>'s lawyer</s> issued the following statement over Facebook:

Quote:

I am very disappointed by the NFL's decision to uphold the 4 game suspension against me. I did nothing wrong, and no one in the Patriots organization did either.

Despite submitting to hours of testimony over the past 6 months, it is disappointing that the Commissioner upheld my suspension based upon a standard that it was "probable" that I was "generally aware" of misconduct. The fact is that neither I, nor any equipment person, did anything of which we have been accused. He dismissed my hours of testimony and it is disappointing that he found it unreliable.

I also disagree with yesterdays narrative surrounding my cellphone. I replaced my broken Samsung phone with a new iPhone 6 AFTER my attorneys made it clear to the NFL that my actual phone device would not be subjected to investigation under ANY circumstances. As a member of a union, I was under no obligation to set a new precedent going forward, nor was I made aware at any time during Mr. Wells investigation, that failing to subject my cell phone to investigation would result in ANY discipline.

Most importantly, I have never written, texted, emailed to anybody at anytime, anything related to football air pressure before this issue was raised at the AFC Championship game in January. To suggest that I destroyed a phone to avoid giving the NFL information it requested is completely wrong.

To try and reconcile the record and fully cooperate with the investigation after I was disciplined in May, we turned over detailed pages of cell phone records and all of the emails that Mr. Wells requested. We even contacted the phone company to see if there was any possible way we could retrieve any/all of the actual text messages from my old phone. In short, we exhausted every possibility to give the NFL everything we could and offered to go thru the identity for every text and phone call during the relevant time. Regardless, the NFL knows that Mr. Wells already had ALL relevant communications with Patriots personnel that either Mr. Wells saw or that I was questioned about in my appeal hearing. There is no "smoking gun" and this controversy is manufactured to distract from the fact they have zero evidence of wrongdoing.

I authorized the NFLPA to make a settlement offer to the NFL so that we could avoid going to court and put this inconsequential issue behind us as we move forward into this season. The discipline was upheld without any counter offer. I respect the Commissioners authority, but he also has to respect the CBA and my rights as a private citizen. I will not allow my unfair discipline to become a precedent for other NFL players without a fight.

Lastly, I am overwhelmed and humbled by the support of family, friends and our fans who have supported me since the false accusations were made after the AFC Championship game. I look forward to the opportunity to resume playing with my teammates and winning more games for the New England Patriots.

So yeah...hope you didn't want to hear about actual football news anytime soon because this story isn't going away anytime soon. It's gonna go to federal court and everyone will be under oath.

Unless they get the case expedited this is probably going to drag on into the regular season anyway, making it all a bit moot.

NFL's plan to get a pro-league judge on their side with the Brady dispute in New York ended up backfiring a bit. Instead of quickly ruling in favor of Goodell and the NFL, the judge told both sides to quit with the war of the words and get an actual deal done without getting the courts involved.

Similar announcement was made by a pro-players judge in Minnesota. Also suggested the case to be heard in New York since it makes more sense regionally even though it was clear why the request was made in Minnesota.

Ted Wells involved in another lawsuit regarding his reports. This time involving the Dolphins harassment report from 2014.

Former Dolphins O-line coach is suing Ted Wells for defamation and Wells goal with the report was to ensure future deals with the NFL. Believes the NFL colluded with Wells to find an easy scapegoat for blame while ignoring the deeper problems within the Dolphins organization.

Turner, who thinks his reputation and career have been unfairly affected, believes that Wells' report on the Dolphins negatively and perhaps permanently altered his ability to land another NFL coaching job ...

In the lawsuit, Turner alleges that the NFL commissioned Wells and Paul Weiss to write a report that would placate the public and assign blame to certain individuals such as Turner, while the law firm was well-paid and well-positioned for future work on NFL cases such as the one that turned out to be Deflategate.

Turner's attorney, Peter Ginsberg, believes that Wells and Weiss failed to include significant testimony from former and current Dolphins coaches and players in the report, opting instead to blame the events on, among others, Turner.

Ginsberg also believes that Turner was falsely accused of helping create an atmosphere that allowed bullying and harassment to happen and, even though Wells knew the accusations were not true, he included them in the report anyway, damaging Turner's reputation and inflicting emotional distress, pain and suffering.

Incognito told Newsday that Wells left out information that could have helped his case in the published report. Asked for specifics on what was left out of Wells' report in his case, Incognito said: "Teammate testimony, stuff like that."

Geno Smith broke his jaw after he got punched by a team mate in the locker room... out 6-10 weeks (from now, not 6-10 weeks of the season)...

Quote:

Geno Smith “sucker punched” in Jets’ locker room, out 6-10 weeks

Jets quarterback Geno Smith has been injured in a fight in the team’s locker room and will likely miss the start of the regular season.

In a stunning announcement today, Jets coach Todd Bowles said that Smith suffered a broken jaw when he was “sucker punched” by Jets linebacker IK Enemkpali. The Jets have cut Enemkpali as a result.

Smith is expected to miss 6-10 weeks. The Jets’ opener is less than five weeks away, so Smith will almost certainly miss some time to start the regular season.

Training camp fights are common, but those fights are usually on the practice field, when players are in full pads. For a player to seriously injure a teammate in the locker room is very rare. And for a player to seriously injure his team’s starting quarterback is completely shocking.

For Smith and the Jets, it’s a major setback. And it’s a story that will raise serious questions around the NFL, about whether the league needs to crack down harder on fights between teammates.

NFL's plan to have the Brady-Deflategate court case heard in New York backfired again for the league.

Judge for the initial hearing ended up grilling Goodell and the league more than Brady over the shaky evidence regarding the Wells Report. Judge kept asking the NFL for direct evidence that was used for punishing Brady in order to prove he deserved the punishment and instead only kept getting vague claims of evidence.

Quote:

But he also said there was no "smoking gun'' showing Brady had direct knowledge that the balls were deflated for the first half of the Patriots' 45-7 defeat of the Indianapolis Colts in the Jan. 18 AFC championship.

Judge also thought it was a bit ironic that Brady performed better with higher inflated balls than under-inflated balls in regards to the NFL claiming Brady had a competitive advantage with Deflategate.

According to ESPN's sources, the NFL changed their settlement offer to Brady with them unwilling to listen unless he accepts the Wells Report as true. Side effect for those terms would be his lawsuit against the league would basically collapse and he would have committed perjury.

Eli Manning wants to become the highest paid QB when his current contract is up. Basis for a new deal is to go higher than Aaron Rodgers' $22 million per year.

Was the highest after his 2nd Super Bowl victory but now is around mid-table for starter QBs.

Evil Vito 08-18-2015 02:28 PM

Eh, it's pretty standard in today's NFL for any good QB about to go on the market to seek the biggest QB contract as the opening bid. Rodgers will wind up with an even bigger deal in a couple of years.

I suspect they'll wind up agreeing to something similar to Rivers' deal. If not, they'll slap the franchise tag on him next offseason.

#1-norm-fan 08-18-2015 07:37 PM

I would personally love to see the Giants tie up as much salary cap space as is realistically possible in Eli Manning.

Evil Vito 08-18-2015 08:35 PM

Pretty sure we're eventually we're going to be at the point where every team has a QB who takes up a quarter of the salary cap. The salaries just keep trending upward. It'll be either that or don't have one in a QB-driven league (or hope you luck out with a QB on his rookie deal). Hard to see the position ever being de-emphasized given the rules in place to promote the passing game and protect the QBs.

In the latest installment of "NFL does something stupid"...Cris Carter told rookies at last year's Rookie Syposium that players should always have a friend to act as their fall guy if they got into legal trouble.

.....and the league posted the video on their own website :|

SlickyTrickyDamon 08-24-2015 01:45 PM

Reggie Wayne! Let's see if he has what it takes.

Droford 08-24-2015 02:15 PM

Apparently Peyton Manning hasn't been able to feel anything on his finger tips since 2011.

Frank Drebin 08-24-2015 02:28 PM

Now the Bears best D-lineman, Jay Ratliff, has been suspended for 3 games.

Usually everyone in Chicago is really excited and geared up for football. This year, especially with the Cubs looking great, no one cares. Really strange even if everyone knows 8-8 would be stretch. They were supposed to be "meh" before and the excitement was always sky high.

Bad News Gertner 08-24-2015 04:21 PM

Wayne will finally experience being part of a real organization

McLegend 08-24-2015 07:28 PM

Sucks for Jordy Nelson.

I Hate preseason.

SlickyTrickyDamon 08-24-2015 07:51 PM

They need to have a shorter preseason. It wouldn't have helped with Nelson because it was week two. Two games is what they are thinking of making it.

Evil Vito 08-25-2015 10:12 AM

Brian Hoyer will be the Texans' starting quarterback week 1.

Congratulations Colts, 2015 AFC South champions.

#1-norm-fan 08-25-2015 10:27 AM

I think Brian Hoyer is a better QB than Ryan Fitzpatrick. So there's that.

screech 08-25-2015 01:32 PM

And the Texans are better than the Browns.

(the Texans are still better than the Browns, right?)

road doggy dogg 08-25-2015 01:33 PM

If by the Texans you mean "JJ Watt + 52 other warm bodies", then yes, the Texans are better than the Browns still

Of course. So we're all good, then

We use to be bad every year that it did not matter back when we sucked. Now, we were supposed to be amazing and then stunk it up year after year.

It is what happens when the expectations are risen and then nothing is given.

Ruien 08-25-2015 02:31 PM

Maan will it hit Chicago hard is the Cubs lose the Wild Card Playoff Game.

Ruien 08-25-2015 02:32 PM

Like hell, no one seems to care/think the Bulls will be anything this year after losing to the Cavs minus two of their stars in 6 games.

screech 08-25-2015 02:43 PM

re: Bears, I think Eddie Royal will have a decent year.

Clerk 08-25-2015 08:59 PM

The CVZS would have got 4-0 through out the playoffs and finals if all healthy the Warriors could barely beat them 1v5

Droford 08-25-2015 09:21 PM

Played madden today

Held CJ Anderson to 11 carries for -5 yards
Sack/fumbled Manning twice, picked him off once
Lorenzo Taliaferro ran for over 100 and Forsett almost had 100, both had 5 td combined

Still fucking lost 44-41 because Manning threw for 500 yards and 5 td like it was 2 years ago

Between that and the Steelers winning SB 50 I'm pissed

First of all.... who the fuck are the CVZS? Is that some secret team in Madden 16 or something? Second, this is the NFL thread.
