Could see Becky get the Bryan post-Mania 30 treatment in the sense they keep her in a top role till SummerSlam and then afterwards start pushing her off to the side in favor of Charlotte or whichever woman du jour Vince is interested in. Currently he's rumored to be interested the most in Lacey Evans for top star tier treatment once she gets over her ring phobia.

Mr. Nerfect 03-23-2019 01:14 AM

None of that would surprise me, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if Charlotte walks out of Mania champion either.

Been watching WWE Network and I forgot I liked Jeff Jarrett in the late 90's.
Jeff Jarrett was awesome and I completely blanked that from my mind somehow...

I bet it's all the shit people write about him and his dad in their books.

Well I liked Double J. Beating women with guitars was a great heel gimmick.

Damian Rey 2.0 03-23-2019 11:26 AM

Double J was the perfect midcard heel. He could garner a reaction, cut a promo and work. Perfect gate keeper.

I think it was a case of trying to use him as the top guy when he wasn't a top guy.

Mr. Nerfect 03-23-2019 01:44 PM

Jeff was a fine mid-card heel. Main event heel or babyface anywhere else on the card? Nope. He’s kind of like The Miz in that regard.

Bad News Gertner 03-23-2019 03:23 PM

He was supposed to work with Austin in mid 99 but Austin vetoed it. People talk about HBK being a politician, but Austin was just as bad.

I didn't see most of the WCW or any of the TNA stuff so watching Jarrett in attitude Era WWE just reminds me how great a heel he was.
I bet he could have worked at the top of the card as a heel when the smaller guys came to the top. Guys like Angle, Jericho, Benoit, Guerrero would struggle to have a bad match with Jeff Jarrett.
Putting him against the plethora of douchebags at the top of WCW probably didn't help build him as a Main Event but WWE knew how to handle their stars. I bet Vince was hurt to lose a great worker with legit heat on the mic.

I read something about this but I couldn't remember if it was about him or his dad.

Jarrett Vs Austin would have worked. Austin was so big in 99 that Jarrett would have been a top heel just via the Debra connection.

Jordan 03-23-2019 04:06 PM

Jeff had the most heat around the time he left, No Mercy. If he would've stuck around I could have seen him getting a little higher on the card. But with Rock, Austin, and Triple H at the top I would likely struggle seeing him as equal. His character is like The Miz during his big championship run in a way.

When he returned at the end of 97 again The Undertaker at In Your House DX, that was the time to do something bigger. I remember hearing Jarrett was returning there I think in a WWF magazine and I was pumped. But they gave a bullshit finish and no program ever started.

Both I think.

Austin held a grudge against Jarrett's dad for pay issues during his time in Memphis and giving preferential treatment to his son so Jarrett never had to struggle to make money.

The grudge against Jarrett himself was due to several reasons. In Memphis, Austin held animosity towards Jarrett for the special treatment he got and Jarrett supposedly mocked Austin's pay at least on one occasion. In WWF, Austin was furious at a shoot promo from Jarrett where he verbally trashed the Stone Cold gimmick.

Seanny One Ball 03-23-2019 06:33 PM

That's one way of saying it I suppose.
The words "shoot and" trashed" make it sound worse. Wasn't it around the time of those stupid worked shoot Russo fantasies that WWE abandoned very quickly? Either way the version I read was more about potentially riling up Christians against the 3:16 thing which to be honest Jeff Jarret could not be held accountable for.

Emperor Smeat 03-23-2019 07:14 PM

Believe so.

Don't remember if Jake Roberts was upset at Austin mocking his religious beliefs but Jarrett took a personal offense to Austin's 3:16 promo and him being the symbol of the edgier direction wrestling was heading towards.

Everything after him insulting WWF and Vince in the promo was all unscripted stuff. Its why whatever big plans WWF had for Jarrett got quickly dropped and when those plans resumed in 1999, Austin remembered Jarrett's attempt to wreck his gimmick so he returned the favor by wrecking Jarrett's chance at a big push.

Jarrett was solid, but he wasn’t that great that it was a major loss. Vince and JR offered Jarrett the same deal as his previous cycle. That sent a very clear message that once his heat with Austin had set in, there was no room for him to move up the card.

It would have been cool to see him work with Benoit, Jericho and Guerrero heading into 2000, but he wasn’t necessary.

Seanny One Ball 03-23-2019 11:37 PM

No individual wrestler with the possible exception of Stone Cold was truly necessary to the WWE during the Attitude era.

What does that even mean anyway, necessary? Necessary for what? Pat Patterson and Gerry Brisco drew stupidly high ratings for a gimmick match so I find it hard to believe any individual was indispensable at that time. Austin was the only wrestler of the Attitude era that could have caused a huge ratings drop by leaving for WCW.

Jeff Jarrett was never necessary. I just liked his shtick and usually enjoyed his matches and I'm surprised I forgot that.

It's wrestling books that did it, they trash Jarrett and I'm sure Gary Hart called his dad a gay sex offender or something.

I just mean that when you say “Vince was probably gutted to see a guy with that heat go,” I think the answer is “Nah, they basically low-balled him out.” If Vince wanted to keep Jarrett, he wouldn’t have left for WCW at that point.

Mr. Nerfect 03-24-2019 02:18 AM

Jarrett’s early stuff in TNA did a lot to kill any potential interest in it as a product.

Vastardikai 03-24-2019 03:18 AM

One of my earliest bits in TPDub, along the same lines as "Janella is Trash," was "Any promotion built around Jeff Jarrett deserves to fail." And I stand by that.

Oh it's true. It's damn true!

Mr. Nerfect 03-24-2019 03:39 AM

It’s not a bad point. Jarrett was a ratings killer in the WWF at one point too. I think this was before the 1999 heel run people are mentioning.

Austin had long-stemming heat with Jarrett as it was, going back to the dying days of the territories. I'm sure he was only too happy to leverage Jarrett out of pretty much any opportunity for the sake of sweet, sweet schadenfreude.

Mr. Nerfect 03-24-2019 12:17 PM

Loved London & Kendrick as a team. Hated when they advertised a four-team rematch at No Way Out only for the bait and switch to be Deuce N’ Domino to smack ‘em in the mouth and get the belts.

Mr. Nerfect 03-24-2019 12:19 PM

Armageddon was traditonally a very shit PPV. Besides the spectacle of the 2000 Hell in a Cell, I think the next two highlights are the Ladder Match and Funaki’s “Armageddon your Cruiserweight Title” line in 2004. I think it was aimed at heel Spike Dudley, if you remember his run as “The Boss.”

Austin and JR are the reason Jarrett left for WCW in 99. Vince put JR in charge of getting Jeff resigned in 99, but JR dragged his feet on getting the contract done because of Austin. Reportedly, Road Dogg cut a promo on Jim Ross and Vince was fuming at JR.

Seems WWE was extra lazy with their handling of all the trademarks they got from WCW's purchase.

Turns out another former WCW trademark ended up in the possession of someone else. This time involving Lethal Lottery which was used in the early 90s by WCW.

Interesting enough is this trademark is related to one filed earlier by Cody Rhodes for Battlebowl since it was used in that match type.

Within the past couple of years, they allowed someone else to trademark WarGames, Halloween Havoc, Battlebowl, Bash at the Beach, Bunkhouse Stampede, and now Lethal Lottery. Arn Anderson is also in the process of owning some rights to the Four Horseman trademark.

Apparently Taker once sent a photo of his balls to Big Show as a post-match prank.

Yeah, loud and clear."

According to Cody, he doesn't have any plans to use Battlebowl or Bunkhouse Stampede in AEW and only did it for sentimental reasons since Dusty invented both matches.

Taking advantage of your neighbour's kindness. What a nice fellow!

I bet the son turns up asking for them back. This sort of shit happens all the time.

If I want a Villain Enterprises shirt I'm going to have to figure a way to brave out a trip to Hot Topic since they don't carry the shirt in anything bigger than XL online whereas they had a 3x villain club shirt in store that I bought. I'd really rather have one of the PWT shirts but I waited too long

Well, this is the same company with the same header in charge that wanted to change Vader to "Mastodon" (so they could trademark it). Despite the fact that Vader was a really well known name.

Nothing beats Jim Herd trying to turn Ric Flair into Spartacus.

The thing is he does kinda look like Kirk Douglas minus the chin dimple.

Seanny One Ball 03-25-2019 07:13 PM

Scott Steiner’s on WWE’s shit list

Seanny One Ball 03-25-2019 07:49 PM

Scott Steiner looks like a fat marionette these days. He's going to go to bed one night and wake up all loose and dislocated the next day.

According to Fightful, all of the lawsuits against El Rey Network and Baba-G Productions regarding illegal contracts in Lucha Underground were settled recently.

King Cuerno, Ivelisse, Kobra Moon, and Joey Ryan were all officially released in return for dropping their lawsuits against Lucha Undeground. Texano's lawsuit was dropped prior to this settlement being made and isn't expected to be leaving from LU or AAA.

I truly wish they would give up on the notion of trying to "Cher" or "Madonna" people. Especially after they throw folks in the name generator to begin with.

Although I can sense the sarcasm intended, I wouldn't be surprised if WWE actually expected that... while riding past Shinsuke needing to rename his knee strike without giving it a second thought.

Warrior's in. Anything is possible. Even though Scotty has shit all over the HoF idea, there are a few others who have done so, and they are in now. Again, see Warrior.

Steiner Brothers should not only be in one of these years, but be the headline for that year. And have whoever inducts them mention the huricanrana...
