Also, sign me way the fuck up for what they're hinting at for the North American title.

Also, I love the way Tommy Sports Entertainment looks at Gargano behind his back. It's a great touch.

That works for me, but instead of Harper for muscle, pair them with Mandy Rose or an NXT lady a la Zelina Vega.....

Really hope Fandango gets to do something serious when he gets back. I have a feeling he and Tyler might just get a Raw Tag Team Title run though.

Is there any data as to how many people watch MLW Fusion? It’s got to be more watched than TNA, right? I mean, the YouTube hits alone put it above TNA’s viewership. TNA would have to be behind WWE, ROH, New Japan and MLW by now. But isn’t there a CMLL show that airs? That probably gets more viewers than TNA too.

Meltzer mentioned in last week's Newsletter that it currently gets more viewers than Impact Wrestling although don't remember if that was just for tv or also included Youtube & Twitch.

AAA might be #2 although they did recently debut on a new channel and are in the "honeymoon" phase there. After that it probably goes ROH > NJPW > MLW > Impact for tv in the US.

According to the Observer, the reason why the build for the RAW Women's title match has been all over the place is due to WWE's plans being in a huge mess the past several weeks.

Pretty much are making constant changes just for the sake of it and them fixing or adjusting plans gets quickly undone from the new changes added in afterwards.

The entire company going dark for months would never work but I like the idea of an “unofficial” off-season mainly for top guys. Injury angles and such to keep guys off TV for a while, keep them fresh and stretch out storylines instead of hotshotting everything. WWE would never do it because they need all their top guys working as much as possible because “stars” = money. But long term, you could actually build stars by not overexposing them.

Emperor Smeat 03-08-2019 07:31 PM

Yeah, if they went dark for even a month, they'd risk pissing off investors and tv networks since they'd lose the biggest leverage of being immune to seasonal breaks. FOX doesn't spend the crazy amount they did for Smackdown if they were not getting 52 weeks per year of content since Smackdown draws lower ratings than the shows they have now for that spot.

A rotational system makes the most sense and was something Triple H wanted to do for 205 Live before Vince messed things up. NXT already uses that system albeit a lot easier for them since its only 1 hour per week they have to worry about for tv.

Emperor Smeat 03-08-2019 08:51 PM

According to PWI, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows are leaving the WWE once their contracts are up.

Similar to the Revival, they have been upset over the direction of their careers in the company and were outspoken about it but unlike the Revival, didn't get fooled by WWE's promises for them.

Their contracts don't expire till this Fall but already turned down multi-million dollar offers from WWE to stay.

You say you make these comments because you're tired of seeing people overhype AEW, but you've become 10 times more obnoxious than anyone doing so.

I'm not even sure I've seen anyone here has overhype it. Pretty certain everyone is just cautiously optimistic.

SlickyTrickyDamon 03-09-2019 12:58 AM

I was reacting to a sock. AEW overhype will hopefully not lead to its failure unlike TNA.

Fignuts 03-09-2019 12:59 AM

I don't even look at it anymore, let alone react to it.

Droford 03-09-2019 01:21 AM

Pick a random match against any jobber combo and watch them go.

It's actually quite beautiful - like watching birds of prey in flight. It's their natural state, the way they were made to be.
Ron Simmons is a kind man and he tears into them like a man who doesn't want to be upstaged.

Bradshaw on 1998 Shotgun Saturday Nights prior to becoming Acolyte Bradshaw was doing a Stan Hansen gimmick and just kicking the living shit out of jobbers

I'd rather take Bradshaw's. I know it would kill me but Hansen would almost certainly hit me in the wrong place and render me quadriplegic and I just couldn't live with that.

Dynamite Kid throwing his was quite ugly too. The Foley one is a real belter. I saw one hedid to Owen earlier that looked quite bad.

Renee Young is rumored to be getting pulled from RAW's commentary team and Smackdown is rumored to be getting trimmed down to a 2-man crew.

You know who put on awesome matches: the Mexican Mini's. They were awesome in hindsight. Shotgun is great in 97-98. Lots of good light Heavyweight matches, highly entertaining Bradshaw squash matches, a weird collection of jobbers like Christopher Daniels and Steve Corino. Shotgun is great. Interesting post from /r/SC

Quote:

I've debated on posting this for years. I've typed it up numerous times and deleted it. I keep thinking "who's going to care?" But if this can give some people a bit of insight into someone that has personally dealt with Dave Meltzer, then have at it.

Back in the early 1990's, I created a wrestling news website as a part time hobby while in high school. It was nothing flashy as my father was just teaching me the beginnings of HTML. So yes, I had plenty of cheesy GIF backgrounds and used dashes and spaces for line breaks. My wrestling news site consisted of local show results I compiled from friends, results of TV broadcasts (Superstars, Wrestling Challenge, etc.), fan fiction stories that readers sent in, a "News... NOT" section (not, like in how they used it in Wayne's World) where people could send in random bullshit like "WWF is in negotiations with Abdullah the Butcher", etc.

Again, this was in the early 90's. Actually, 1993 to be exact. This was before the WWF/WWE had a website. Before WCW had a website. I didn't even have a domain name. I was just feeding off of my father's ISP account website from his monthly service plan. So it was a long URL about 40 characters long and had plenty of random characters.
The site became popular. I was getting 20,000 viewers a month and usually 100 emails a week. Hey, back then that was a ton. The emails would be results from live events all over the world. Many emails were photos (BMP format, so they would take about 40 minutes to download a single photo... and I'd have hundreds attached.)
I had regular content submissions from a family in Germany we nicknamed "The Sour Krauts", so they got my personal mailing address and they constantly mailed me Iomega Zip Disks filled with photos from different wrestling events they took from all over Europe.

Running the website was a handful, but I loved it. I loved the interaction from the fans that loved the same thing that I loved. Sure you got some hate here and there, but it was pure joy being able to share something that someone from so far away had, that otherwise had no other way to share with others. I liked being that middleman. I liked being that person that was able to open that door between continents. "Hey, person in Siberia! Someone in Brazil likes the same thing that you do! Here! Look!"
But then Dave M. showed up in 1995 and started to make my hobby a nightmare.

I know that by taking in submissions from viewers, you're not always going to be getting 100% legitimate content. Sometimes people will try to pass off others work as their own. Well, if you hadn't figured it out, someone sent in a "News... NOT" submission that was a one-sentence long snippet someone took from his newsletter. That was all it took for Meltzer to declare war on my site and make my life a living hell.

Email after email he threatened to sue me for plagiarism. Even months after the archived snippet had been removed and I had sent in a heartfelt apology. It felt like it had become a game to him. It felt like his main goal was to just try to run me out of town. To weed out the competition. The competition, mind you, that was a high school kid that was doing this as a hobby for fun. Where it finally came to an end was when he emailed me and asked if I had permission to use WWF content on my website and if I didn't that he was going to report me. I never responded. A month later, I come home from my job flipping burgers and my mom is sitting at the kitchen table, scowling, with a white envelope with a WWF logo on it and a two page Cease and Desist letter from the WWF lawyers demanding that I discontinue use of their trademarked works.

That night I shut my website down.

I'm in my early 40's now and I sometimes get the urge to get back into the fun of it. Then I keep remembering that people like Dave are out there and their goal isn't about it being "fun", making it fun, or opening the doors between continents. It's nothing more than a fast hustle with a never ending supply of easy content to cash in on. Just to clarify, Dave didn't destroy my life; I'm doing just great. The only thing he took away was that passion I had for one thing that I found fun. Other than that, I still enjoy pretty much everything related to wrestling.

Either that site got shut down because it wasn't "one sentence" snippets being posted from the Newsletter or it was someone else inetad threatening legal action to help shut it down.

Even in the replies that person admits it might not have been Meltzer who sent him the emails.

Has to easily be the longest running design of a current title, right? I wouldn’t mind seeing an update tbf.

Mr. Nerfect 03-11-2019 05:34 PM

When the belt first came out, people HATED it. So many were clamoring for the WCW design. It’s just survived somehow. Cena had his custom for a while, but how often does a belt design stay around for 13 years? I think it might be a company record.
