Pats decided against the idea of appealing or suing the league in regards to their Deflategate punishments. Whole thing was settled in a real "Hug It Out" moment.

NFL ended up taking a hybrid of the Pats and Eagles suggestions for post-touchdown scoring plays.

PATs will now be kicked at the 15 yard line while 2-pt conversions will stay at the 2 yard line except defenses can now score off of turnovers.

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-19-2015 08:31 PM

Can they score on turnovers on the PAT attempt or only on the 2 Point Conversion?

Kraft didn't acknowledge any wrong doing in the non-defense. Just that it's time to get back to the 32 and one team's issues can't take up all the time.

Brady seems to be left high and dry though. Not cool. Still not over. They need to trim the suspension or eliminate it.

I kinda hate any rule that directly and drastically changes how points are scored like this. It messes with the consistency of the game over the years. The basic ideas should stay in place from year to year. There was nothing wrong with extra points the way they were.

#1-norm-fan 05-19-2015 09:12 PM

Also, kickers are suddenly more valuable but less likely to break scoring records and such over a career.

#1-norm-fan 05-19-2015 09:16 PM

"NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said teams could change their attempt decision if a penalty occurred. For instance if a team chose to go for two points and were called for an offensive penalty they could then decide to kick a 1-point try."

So there's no reason not to always line up to go for 2 and see how the defense lines up/try to draw them offsides. Seems like a mess.

Ruien 05-20-2015 02:28 PM

They would probably get docked the same amount of yards from the penalty making the 1-point try rather hard to obtain.

John Bowlen might have just cost himself eventually owning the Broncos.

Quote:

TMZ Sports has obtained the bizarre 911 call recording from the domestic dispute involving the son of Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen ... in which he claims to be "the blood of the city."

John Bowlen's girlfriend initially called 911 on Wednesday night ... but the call was cut short ... and the last thing the operator heard was the woman screaming.

So, the operator called back ... only this time, John picked up ... and goes on a bizarre rant in which he claims to be the owner of the Denver Broncos ... says he's dealing with a "crazy girlfriend" ... and swears on his life that everything is fine.

"As the blood of the city, I'm telling you nothing is wrong."

He also dropped some names ... "I'm a man of the city. A friend of the mayor. And everybody knows exactly who I am. I'm going through a lot."

Bowlen continued ... "She is leaving right now, nothing is wrong. I love you guys. Thank you. Bye bye."

Obviously, the operator didn't buy Bowlen's story -- cops went to the scene and Bowlen was arrested on domestic violence charges.

FYI -- Bowlen is employed by the Broncos as the Corporate Partnerships Coordinator ... and was the frontrunner to take over the team from his father, who has Alzheimer's.

---

49ers third-year FS Eric Reid said he contemplated retirement in the offseason due to concussion concerns.

It's the same reason teammates ILB Chris Borland and RT Anthony Davis hung up the cleats. "I will continue to evaluate my own situation," Reid said. "If I have another concussion and I don’t feel like I can play any more, then I won’t. If I [have another concussion], and if I feel that I still can play, then I will. It’s just a case-by-case basis." Reid missed Week 17 last season with a concussion.</font>

A couple of recent NFL stuff:

* Jaguars announced they will no longer be having a mascot starting this upcoming season. Unofficial reason was them finally having enough of the person playing the mascot doing dangerous stunts and getting into possible legal issues over the years.

* Unlike normal appeal cases, NFL didn't want Brady's appeal to last more than a day and even got him to swear under oath. Ted Wells was at the hearing although mostly to defend his report from growing outside criticism.

* Broncos denied rumors of them trying to trade Peyton Manning to the Texans this offseason. Supposedly those talks happened shortly before Mannings and the team agreed to a new deal.

<font color=goldenrod>Probably a non-issue. There was close to zero chance that JPP was going to sign the extension if healthy because he was expecting something closer to 9 figures. I'd pull the long-term deal with close to $30 million guaranteed if the idiot player nearly blew off his hand, too.

He'll wind up signing the franchise tag, might actually miss the opening Dallas game now because of his idiocy, and probably walk in the next offseason.</font>

Had to look it up and I found it on a list of ridiculous sports injuries. It came in 3rd just behind Bill Gramatica's celebration injury. It should be higher though. Gramatica's only crime was being way to excited over a first quarter field goal. Way more acceptable than letting a video game keep you from doing your job.

<font color=goldenrod>I have no idea how Schefter gets his sources or why so many people inside football (including a lot of higher-ups) are so eager to help him, but it's crazy. When he reports something it's basically a lock.

Like with the whole Brady/Deflategate testimony crap. Schefter reported that Brady would have 4 hours to plead his case. A NFL spokesperson took to Twitter to refute those claims. LA relocation plans hit a small snag recently after the Rose Bowl committee rejected offers to temporary host a potential new LA team until an actual stadium is built. Had they agreed, Rams, Chargers, or Raiders would have been able to move as early as 2016.

Official reason was them not wanting to have to shuffle around plans for existing and future events at the stadium. Also would have disrupted the environmental reports already in progress for those events.

NFL still looking at other possible stadiums as temporary hosts like Dodgers stadium, StubHub Center, and others in the area.

Sepholio 07-09-2015 10:37 PM

I feel like JPP is done as a Giant. With him not allowing the team access to information about his injury he pretty much made that a guarantee. Even if he signs the franchise tender for 14.8 million or whatever, he will then have to undergo a full medical exam and if he doesn't meet the Giant's standards they can pull the franchise tag back and nullify the deal.

He's going to have to start looking at which teams will take a risk on him now to see if he will still be the same player. Have a feeling he will end up signing like a 1 year 8-9 mill contract with some other team.

Also, wtf with the football players injuring themselves with fireworks? Probably all that CTE causing them to get confused and bungle the launch. :shifty:

Nark Order 07-10-2015 12:16 AM

Forgive my ignorance. I could be wrong but does a finger injury really have that big of a impact on his position?

James Steele 07-10-2015 01:32 AM

Yes, hands are critical for DEs to play effectively. They have to keep their hands active and be able to grip the OL to throw him or other techniques to keep them from blocking him. Fold your index finger to your palm and try imagine using that hand to grip the outside should of a tackle to keep him from crossing your face and getting you turned on a stretch play or trying to grab the tackle's inside shoulder pads to keep separation so he can find the ball and disengage to go make the tackle. It could be an issue against elite tackles (*cough*COWBOYS*cough*) or tackles who have a strength advantage. It wouldn't be as big of a deal if it was his pinky. It will be enough of a difference to change his value from one of the absolute best at his position and somebody whose side you won't run to into just a really good DE. The owners/GMs will do whatever they can to get out of paying top dollar.

Changing his stance will also change how his footwork is at the snap of the ball, and that can cause the 1-second difference in winning or losing the play on top of him being comfortable or not in his stance. The QB spot isn't the only position where every little thing is nuanced and broken down in film study.

Evil Vito 07-10-2015 01:30 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Yep. I could very easily see this being the type of thing that derails his career if he can't make the adjustment.

At least I still feel pretty good about the DEs the Giants have. Robert Ayers is solid. Damontre Moore feels like someone who would thrive in the Spagnuolo system. I liked the George Selvie signing. Kerry Wynn went on a tear near the end of last season. Their 3rd round pick O-Squared has a lot of promise.

As it is they're probably not going to be able to carry more than 5 DEs on the roster, so I figure one of those guys gets cut unless JPP starts the year on the NFI list.</font>
