Pats decided against the idea of appealing or suing the league in regards to their Deflategate punishments. Whole thing was settled in a real "Hug It Out" moment.

NFL ended up taking a hybrid of the Pats and Eagles suggestions for post-touchdown scoring plays.
PATs will now be kicked at the 15 yard line while 2-pt conversions will stay at the 2 yard line except defenses can now score off of turnovers. |
Can they score on turnovers on the PAT attempt or only on the 2 Point Conversion?

Brady seems to be left high and dry though. Not cool. Still not over. They need to trim the suspension or eliminate it. |
No they don't. He cheated. Fuck him.

Also, kickers are suddenly more valuable but less likely to break scoring records and such over a career.
|
"NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said teams could change their attempt decision if a penalty occurred. For instance if a team chose to go for two points and were called for an offensive penalty they could then decide to kick a 1-point try."
So there's no reason not to always line up to go for 2 and see how the defense lines up/try to draw them offsides. Seems like a mess. |
They would probably get docked the same amount of yards from the penalty making the 1-point try rather hard to obtain.

<font color=goldenrod>Giants LT Will Beatty torn pectoral muscle...likely out until November. Fuck.</font>

Ray McDonald arrested again for Domestic Violence.
Bears must be feeling really stupid for signing him to that deal. |
And Da Bears cut Ray McDonald loose.

Upcoming season of Hard Knocks down to Bills, Texans, or Redskins getting picked. Browns were one of the big candidates for this season but turned it down along with 6 other teams.
|
<font color=goldenrod>Adrian Peterson is thinking about pulling out the retirement card. Dude is trying everything in his power to force a trade to Dallas.</font>
|
Really hate when players want to break the rules to go to a certain spot. Also hate how NFL teams can cut majority of the people on the roster at no cost to them.
|
Offseason ACL doom continues. Broncos LT Ryan Clady done for the season.

Falcons' Prince Shembo was arrested recently for animal abuse charges. Falcons expected to make an announcement regarding the situation soon although wasn't teased if it involves releasing him or not.

Not worth it though |
AP rejoins the Vikings "because he wants to" at OTAs

Because he wants to get paid. He just forgot to finish the sentence.

John Bowlen might have just cost himself eventually owning the Broncos.

49ers RT Anthony Davis retires at age 25.
LOL Niners. |
Must be something in the water in San Francisco.
|
The Brandon Spikes Patriots Redemption Tour didn't even manage to last a whole month. Spikes got into some legal problems and Pats didn't want to bother dealing with his antics like last time.
Had two supposed hit and run accidents within a day and fled both scenes. http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/...gland-patriots |
<font color=goldenrod>49ers nearly lost another player this offseason:
--- 49ers third-year FS Eric Reid said he contemplated retirement in the offseason due to concussion concerns. It's the same reason teammates ILB Chris Borland and RT Anthony Davis hung up the cleats. "I will continue to evaluate my own situation," Reid said. "If I have another concussion and I don’t feel like I can play any more, then I won’t. If I [have another concussion], and if I feel that I still can play, then I will. It’s just a case-by-case basis." Reid missed Week 17 last season with a concussion.</font> |
|
Didn't they win the AFC South in 2014 as well? Why not have that there?
|
The Cardinals should hang a "2014 NFC Playoff Participant" banner.
|
At least its not as bad as the time the Tampa Bay Rays in MLB decided to reward themselves with two banners for a season with the excuse being they had none before. Also having a lot of free space on a wall or wherever they got placed.
Also ends up the Colts have a few banners like that one. Guess nobody really noticed how odd it was until recently. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CHK1PYxVAAAN9PV.jpg:large https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CHLA9naXIAAEyRS.jpg |

A couple of recent NFL stuff:
* Jaguars announced they will no longer be having a mascot starting this upcoming season. Unofficial reason was them finally having enough of the person playing the mascot doing dangerous stunts and getting into possible legal issues over the years. * Unlike normal appeal cases, NFL didn't want Brady's appeal to last more than a day and even got him to swear under oath. Ted Wells was at the hearing although mostly to defend his report from growing outside criticism. * Broncos denied rumors of them trying to trade Peyton Manning to the Texans this offseason. Supposedly those talks happened shortly before Mannings and the team agreed to a new deal. |
<font color=goldenrod>JPP injured himself in a fireworks accident. Fucking moron.</font>
|
Ended up costing him the $60 million deal the Giants were willing to give him.
|
<font color=goldenrod>Probably a non-issue. There was close to zero chance that JPP was going to sign the extension if healthy because he was expecting something closer to 9 figures. I'd pull the long-term deal with close to $30 million guaranteed if the idiot player nearly blew off his hand, too.
He'll wind up signing the franchise tag, might actually miss the opening Dallas game now because of his idiocy, and probably walk in the next offseason.</font> |
Can't wait for next off-season when OBJ gets injured in a gasoline fight accident.
|
Similar to Pierre-Paul, Bucs C.J. Wilson also got injured because of a fireworks accident. Only injured one hand and not both like JPP did.
Ended up losing two fingers because of it according to Lincoln Times-News and could also be a possible career ending injury. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...orks-accident/ |
I'd like to know how the Giants are gonna handle this.
Should make for some good watercooler/sports radio talk tomorrow |
I remember years ago the Jaguars lost their punter for the season because the new coach came in (I think it was whoever followed Jack Del Rio) and put a block of wood with an axe in the middle of the dressing room as some sort of symbol for their motto for the upcoming season. The punter starting fucking around with the axe and ended up chopping into his leg. That's probably still the most boneheaded off-the-field injury I've heard of.
|
<font color=goldenrod>JPP reportedly had his index finger amputated. What a fucking moron.</font>
|
Quote:
|
<font color=goldenrod>Over the years a pitcher has definitely blown out his elbow jerking off vigorously and blamed it on something else.</font>
|
Maybe the closest that has happened:
Quote:
|
<font color=goldenrod>Adam Schefter/ESPN have been publishing screenshots of JPP's medical records.
I would hope they weren't stupid enough to post that without permission from JPP's camp. Because if they did, somebody is about to get sued into the stone age for violating the HIPAA laws.</font> |
Feel guilty because I "crave" Schefter's reporting crap for fantasy stuff, but seems like media has way too much accessibility to shit like that
Kinda still ludicrous to me that player salaries are so openly publicly available to everyone |
They want them out because it adds to the aura of the superstar athlete culture and the unions like it because it helps establish higher market value when contracts are up.

Zumaya's was even worse when you consider the context/timing of it (it was during the 2006 ALCS).
|
Quote:
Like with the whole Brady/Deflategate testimony crap. Schefter reported that Brady would have 4 hours to plead his case. A NFL spokesperson took to Twitter to refute those claims. Schefter then immediately tweeted a private memo from within the league office verifying his report and making the spokesperson look like a moron.</font> |
Sucks I wasn't here for the Super Bowl
|
I didn't notice
|
LA relocation plans hit a small snag recently after the Rose Bowl committee rejected offers to temporary host a potential new LA team until an actual stadium is built. Had they agreed, Rams, Chargers, or Raiders would have been able to move as early as 2016.
Official reason was them not wanting to have to shuffle around plans for existing and future events at the stadium. Also would have disrupted the environmental reports already in progress for those events. NFL still looking at other possible stadiums as temporary hosts like Dodgers stadium, StubHub Center, and others in the area. |
<font color=goldenrod>Ken "The Snake" Stabler passes away at age 69.</font> :(
|
I feel like JPP is done as a Giant. With him not allowing the team access to information about his injury he pretty much made that a guarantee. Even if he signs the franchise tender for 14.8 million or whatever, he will then have to undergo a full medical exam and if he doesn't meet the Giant's standards they can pull the franchise tag back and nullify the deal.
He's going to have to start looking at which teams will take a risk on him now to see if he will still be the same player. Have a feeling he will end up signing like a 1 year 8-9 mill contract with some other team. Also, wtf with the football players injuring themselves with fireworks? Probably all that CTE causing them to get confused and bungle the launch. :shifty: |
Forgive my ignorance. I could be wrong but does a finger injury really have that big of a impact on his position?
|
Yes, hands are critical for DEs to play effectively. They have to keep their hands active and be able to grip the OL to throw him or other techniques to keep them from blocking him. Fold your index finger to your palm and try imagine using that hand to grip the outside should of a tackle to keep him from crossing your face and getting you turned on a stretch play or trying to grab the tackle's inside shoulder pads to keep separation so he can find the ball and disengage to go make the tackle. It could be an issue against elite tackles (*cough*COWBOYS*cough*) or tackles who have a strength advantage. It wouldn't be as big of a deal if it was his pinky. It will be enough of a difference to change his value from one of the absolute best at his position and somebody whose side you won't run to into just a really good DE. The owners/GMs will do whatever they can to get out of paying top dollar.
|
Well to put it in simpler terms, there's a reason there's holding on every play. Dudes grabbin' each other like it's Black Friday
|
<font color=goldenrod>Strahan said that JPP will now need to learn to do the 3 point stance with his left hand. You'd think it's easy to just switch hands but not when you've been doing it the same way your whole life.</font>
|
Anybody THRILLA~!
|
dey b grabbin' like thikk booty bitchez in da clubb!!!
|
thikky thikky thikk
|
Changing his stance will also change how his footwork is at the snap of the ball, and that can cause the 1-second difference in winning or losing the play on top of him being comfortable or not in his stance. The QB spot isn't the only position where every little thing is nuanced and broken down in film study.
|
<font color=goldenrod>Yep. I could very easily see this being the type of thing that derails his career if he can't make the adjustment.
At least I still feel pretty good about the DEs the Giants have. Robert Ayers is solid. Damontre Moore feels like someone who would thrive in the Spagnuolo system. I liked the George Selvie signing. Kerry Wynn went on a tear near the end of last season. Their 3rd round pick O-Squared has a lot of promise. As it is they're probably not going to be able to carry more than 5 DEs on the roster, so I figure one of those guys gets cut unless JPP starts the year on the NFI list.</font> |
Yeah. Ugh. If youre going to lose a finger, the index finger seems like the worst one to lose other than the thumb.
|
Yeah this isn't a Ronnie Lott situation
|
His Madden rating is gonna plummet.
|
Cowboys and Broncos currently under investigation over possible collusion allegations. Involves the recent deals given to Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant that might have been artificially lowered than what both guys should have gotten for deals.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13...mas-dez-bryant |
Dez gets his deal. 5-years, $70 mil.
And all eyes are on Demariyus Thomas. |
Thomas got the same deal just 43.5 million guaranteed instead of the 45 million Dez got.
|
Surprised that news didn't ping on my phone at work.
Thanks a lot, Yahoo Sports. :fu: |
<font color=goldenrod>Justin Houston signs on with the Chiefs for a mammoth 6 years, $101 million with $52.5 million guaranteed.
JPP is the only franchise player who will continue to play under the franchise tag this year. Dumbass cost himself a huge payday.</font> |

really hope Madden trolls the 'Hawks and puts in that slant play in their Goal Line formation... would be amazing |
Apparently the "Football World Championships" is a thing. The US won the gold medal convincingly, winning every game by at least 3 scores including a 59-12 win over Japan in the finals and an 82-0 win over France. Go figure.
|
<font color=goldenrod>This offseason has felt extra long what with the Giants' 2014 season being over by November. Cool knowing that nearly every training camp will be open by the end of the week.
Football isn't too far away. Fortunately baseball season hasn't been a total bust for me this year so that's helped to move things along.</font> |
AZ Cards hiring some braud as their LBs coach

HAHA
FUCK YOU TOMMY BOY! |
FUCK YOU NEW ENGLAND! ENJOY 0-4 !!!

Enjoy Jeanine Garafalo as your QB you cheaters
|
TAKE THOSE RINGS AWAY! All those championships were won by cheating. This team should be eliminated from the league. Send the Patriots to the CFL!

COLTS WOULD HAVE WON 45-7 IF THEY WEREN'T PLAYING WITH A FLAT FOOTBALL!

Meanwhile LeVeon Bell gets his 3 game suspension reduced to 2 from his DUI and marijuana possession last year.

<font color=goldenrod>LOL Brady destroyed his cell phone the day before the investigation. Jesus.</font>

Tom Brady was sent by ISIS! His real name is Tomasau Abu Radi!

Quote:
|
<font color=goldenrod>Regardless of how miniscule this whole thing may be...how on earth do you destroy your cell phone the very day before the investigation? Especially when the NFL had already requested to see the text messages.
Non-compliance with an investigation in any way is just dumb.</font> |
Quote:

Hate this dumb investigation. Makes me want to hate football.

He should never be allowed to play again. Cant trust him.

This is a win for America!

<font color=goldenrod>Next time Peyton and Brady again, Peyton will be spotted a 14 point head start.</font>
|
Read some thing on Grantland today about how much of a huge effort they are putting into this complete and utter non-story, yet the whole uh HEY JUNIOR SEAU FUCKING KILLED HIMSELF BECAUSE HIS BRAIN WAS POTATOES is just kinda brushed under the rug
|
Brady is probably the greatest ever and it's annoying that this gives fans license to ignore all of his accomplishments. Well, I guess anybody with half a brain will realize how talented he is, but how many football fans have half a brain?
|
Brady is in the GOAT discussion easily. I don't care, nothing will convince me otherwise.
|
smh @ dumb Tom Brady shit (as a Jets fan)
smh @ demanding to see all of his cell phone communications also retarded |
<font color=goldenrod>As much as I like to have a laugh at the Pats, anybody who doesn't think Brady is one of the best ever is moronic. Easily in GOAT discussion. At minimum he should be on anyone's top 10 list.
The voters will understand that. He'll be enshrined in Canton first ballot 5 years after he retires.</font> |
on to the next scandel the nfl will dig up to keep people talking
|
this whole scandal is fucking stupid.
