The more places that wrestlers can work and make a living the better

I don’t know what WWE having <2 million subscribers has anything to do with whether AEW can get traction of its own. There are plenty of wrestling fans that would like something diffeeemt to look forward to each week. They get a good TV deal and they are a player.

He can't grasp why people might be interested in an alternative and seems to get offended when new companies crop up. SpectrumTrickyDamon strikes again.

Buzz Lightyear comments on the Benoit Murders. |
Still making my way through the 98 Raw's. Up to the Mar.16 Raw, right before Wrestlemania. HBK/HHH/Chyna version of DX does not age well. Home sick from work, so I just put this episode on.
The amount of signs in the crowd when they do opening crowd shots is just astounding. Show opens with Ken Shamrock doing a interview with Kevin Kelly in the middle of the ring. It's too bad Shamrock left wrestling for MMA. Could you imagine Shamrock coming along now? My God, he'd be thr biggest thing in wrestling. |
3 men commentary for the first half of Raws: Kevin Kelly, Michael Cole and Jim Ross. I always forget this was the team.
|
Okay I ended up with some awesome resale tickets for Super Card of Honor at MSG so I'm going for it again. Going to try and watch the last month of TV and see how it goes.
|
Starting at 12/21 crazy how much the production has improved since my last dip in.
|
Also aside from getting MSG tickets I am really into the guys they are signing. Looking to develop new stars rather than hire pre-made ones is always a smart call. Especially if you are the most star making company of this generation.
|
This may be a clips episode but it's cool cause they showing Cody vs Kenny.
|
The past two matches were Tom Brandi vs Jeff Jarrett and Rock & Roll Express and Jim Conrette vs the Headbangers.
Lol it took a while for Raw to find its groove |
Lol oh Jesus, the debut of the New Midnight Express

And when those TV contracts come up, if AEW has a large enough presence and is running as far more cost-effective programming, it is going to affect how much Vince McMahon will be able to ask for. WWE makes way more than their operating costs from TV, which is why they are making record profits despite sucking in basically every other metric. If AEW only needs, say, a $50 million TV deal to be running at a comfortable enough profit for the Khans, then undercutting Vince's asking price means that a few people might scratch their heads and say "Ummm...nah." If/when those profit margins drop, investors are going to be asking why. It's not like this will cripple WWE, but they may not have "record profit years" and take enough of a hit that they need to do a little belt tightening in certain areas to make what they are getting stretch further. Wrestlers are about to have options, which means they are going to have autonomy and be able to fight for it with Vince, who has basically been able to hand guys scripts and dictate the narrative for the past 20 years. It's not like AEW is going to get a 5.0 rating and suddenly Vince will be on the streets. No one is saying that. But with a good cable deal and promotion that allows them visibility, there is no reason a completely fresh product that doesn't have old wrestling stigma can't catch fire, within certain parameters, and provide options for wrestlers and sponsors that force Vince to actually give a shit and listen to the fan-base he has cultivated, at the very least. |
Was right with Hangman Page until he mentioned not having pineapple on pizza. But given the tone of the letter, he might have been sarcastic, so I might not boycott AEW because of his foolishness.
|
Apparently Major League Wrestling is taking a page from the LOLTNA era of TNA/Impact with how they have been handling things since their revival. Also a page from WWE for pettiness as a company.
Besides some questionable booking affecting shows, seems their contracts might not actually be legally binding or whenever they claim someone is signed, turns out its more like a handshake agreement. Lost Rush, Shane Strickland, and now about to lose the Lucha Bros because of that reason. Only reason Lucha Bros are still in MLW is due to certain terms in their LU contracts since they never signed a real deal with MLW. Also starting to become petty towards other companies after it was exposed their CEO has been lying about the status of certain wrestlers and plans to work with other companies. Someone managed to dig up what the going rate for a top tier MLW contract is and supposedly its $150 per show for 2 years which is why they've struggled to lock down big name indie stars. |
What if....
@Royal Rumble... Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey "get into it" backstage before Becky's match.... Becky still comes out to fight Asuka later but is pretty "banged up" and loses... Meiko Satamura enters the Rumble and faces Asuka at Mania Becky somehow gets a shot against Ronda at Mania Charlotte does something |
That would be neat.
Do not want Charlotte "added" to Becky vs. Ronda. |
WWE is rumored to have recently changed their plans for KUSHIDA.
Originally planned for him to have a stint in NXT and then go to 205 Live. Now the plan is for him to completely skip NXT in favor of going straight to 205 Live instead. |

My favorite Davey Boy Smith, Jr. moment is from Superstars. I can’t remember who he was wrestling, but he came out in a cowboy hat. Scott Stanford was calling the match and there was a spot where Smith tackled his opponent to the mat and he hits the ropes and he does this weird dance and Stanford, with completely earnestly yells “Tex is shaking his hips! Tex is shaking his hips!”
|
Holy fuck, I found it. Greatest match with the greatest call since Bobby Heenan called the ‘92 Rumble.

That’s if they really do care about Becky. There’s nothing incoherent about your reasoning, but I’ve got a feeling that Becky has been kept up there because they know if they shaft her fans won’t accept Charlotte.

I find it weird that they're higher on Charlotte than they ever were on her far more charismatic father -- even when he won the championship.

To be fair, Flair in his prime was only in WWE for like a year or two and the rest of the time we had The Nature Elder.

Lio Rush is pretty great.

Has there ever been anyone as consistently good as Jericho for as long a length of time as he has? The dude has been one of the best in the world for over 2 decades now.
|
He's had slumps. I do love me some Jericho, but there have been periods where he has been just around. He gets credit for constantly reinventing himself, but there were really only a few modes of Jericho. There was plucky babyface and whiny heel for years. He changed it up in 2008 when he became "No Country" Jericho, but List Jericho was really just a blend between No Country and Whiny. New Japan Jericho does feel like a genuine evolution. He's an old salty bastard/brawler and I love that.
Jushin Liger has been wrestling pretty consistently and has always been up to some standard. I think he's got a good six years on Jericho. Yuji Nagata has been going pretty close to what Jericho has. The same with Satoshi Kojima and Hiroyoshi Tenzan. I mean, their level compared to Jericho is debatable, but they are definitely "very good." I'm sure there are some Mexican guys that can compete with that too. Hell, you might be able to find a great 20-year period for Jerry Lawler too. It's an elite group, but I don't think it's quite exclusive to Jericho. |
|
Quote:
Lacked the reinventing quality of Jericho but makes it up with arguably more quality feuds and matches over a lengthy career. |
Love Jericho, but he was kinda trash in like 2005. Or whenever he was thrown in that garbage truck. Fitting at the time.
|
Wasn’t it Bischoff the one that got dumped in the garbage truck? Jericho got dragged/carried out when he lost his “Loser Leaves” match.

I wouldn’t say Jericho was trash, but he was made to look that way. He was burnt out and nothing he did felt consequential. Very similar to Dolph Ziggler now. Just there.

Quote:
Be surprised if it lasts, he's lost weight before and put on more than he lost in a matter of a few months. |
He doesn’t seem to have the healthiest habbits or attitudes outside the ring. That being said, being in WWE and having a career flash before your eyes might change that.

Ala WrestleMania XIX in Seattle, The RR will also have a curved walkway to the ring.
|
If Finn Balor performs well against Brock at the RR, I can see him being given the Bobby Lashley match at WrestleMania for the iC Title.
|
Oh my god, how amazing would it be if Shane & Miz win the SmackDown Tag Titles off Sheamus & Cesaro, which leads to The Bar splitting, and Cesaro somehow securing himself a WWE Title match against Bryan at Mania? That match could be A fucking +.
No chance of it happening, but how surreal would it be? It's not like the Bryan match is going to be put in a position where it is going to be charged with drawing. |
Does anyone remember how good (Antonio) Cesaro's broken fingers US Title run was?

BTW I think Brock/Balor will be fine. Brock's wanted to to work w/ him for a while which means Brock's probably also had ideas about the match and how to do it for a while. |
I am expecting Lashley to be in a program with Kevin Owens once he returns.
|
I'm all for anything that sees Cesaro in a "main event" at Wrestlemania.

Been watching old Monday Night Raws from the mid 90's. They used to do this weird thing whenever they taped Raw where Vince and Lawler in post-production would talk about something that happened in the news yesterday and they'd force in into the show. Like some wrestler would be getting his ass kicked and Vince would say "Aldo Montoya is getting dominated, much like the Chicago Bears yesterday. Can you believe they lost 45-0". Lol its so awkward.
|
lolll
|
It wouldn't have the same ironic brilliance if it wasn't Vince himself doing the commentary.
|
Vince was a f'n maniac on commentary.
|
I want a good Vince on commentary compilation.....
|
I don't know if the world is ready for that.
