RAW had 1.72 million viewers this week
Big news of the week is Dynamite beat RAW in 18-34 viewers (Dynamite .29 vs RAW .23) https://i.postimg.cc/gcKw64G5/Final-...Aug-10-MON.png |

AEW hasn’t been on this week. Wrestling fans are almost as bad as wrestling.
|
I thought the important demo was 18-49. You mean to tell me AEW honks are going to change the "important" demo to fit their narrative?
Who would have EVER guessed?!?!? |
It means AEW is more appealing to young people already less than a year after its start
|
More of an explanation about how channel flipping counts in the ratings... so combining the AEW and NXT viewership to compare to Raw does have validity I guess
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Numbers are determined by an average of each minute. So if you watch 50 minutes of one and 70 of the other, you count as .42 of a viewer for the first show and .58 of the second show if you flip back and forth. <a href="https://t.co/5y3cgoZWrC">https://t.co/5y3cgoZWrC</a></p>— Dave Meltzer (@davemeltzerWON) <a href="https://twitter.com/davemeltzerWON/status/1293591133499482112?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 12, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

Shit's about to pop off, son! |
I can't but can believe Jericho posted that.

Jerichovid-19 loves to troll
|
So the big news is Raw defeated AEW in the coveted 18-34 demo this week. Lol they didn't reclaim it. Two different weeks.
AEW getting desperate. R.I.P |

Meltzer made a ridiculous post not only doing the same thing, but also claiming that TNT must love AEW because they’re not paying much for it and they’re getting 70% of a demo. Which isn’t how demos and TV rights work (even ask BigCrippyZ) but also ignores that AEW has a 50/50 split for ad revenue.
|
I finally realized what it is.
I enjoy most of AEW for the 2 hours Dynamite is on. I hate most of AEW the rest of the week. If they all weren't so damn annoying and "just shut up and wrestled" they probably wouldn't have driven a million people away. All their bullshit bragging about how they are doing so great after 10 months is a spin. They lost the majority of their audience in 10 months, that is the truth. It likely happened because they are insufferable outside of the actual television tapings. |
AEW, the greatest promotion of all time.
|
I hate bad wrestling. I don’t have the patience for more bad wrestling just because it isn’t run by a particular rich guy I’ve manufactured an issue with. I’m annoyed at the squandered opportunity and the fandom around them is more counterproductive and off-putting than optimistic.
I’ve tuned out of even having a cursory interest in AEW. I’ll see a headline from Meltzer or the people willing this to be more than it is and you can pretty much be guaranteed it is bullshit. It’s mild fun to dig into “TNT must love AEW because (bullshit reasons).” It’s just sad this is where wrestling is. |
Baseball ratings seem to be up, and it appears that younger viewership is on the rise. I'm guessing it's part of the reason viewership dropped this week
"Through the third weekend of MLB action, 39 million unique viewers have watched 59 telecasts (661,017 per game), compared to 26 million over 45 broadcasts (577,777 per game) through the same period in 2019, according to Nielsen data MLB provided to Stephen Battaglio of the Los Angeles Times. While that shows slight growth, ESPN's national MLB telecasts are averaging 1.2 million viewers, Battaglio notes. That's up 29% from last season's numbers. Perhaps most encouraging is the rise in viewership among the 18-34 age group. ESPN has seen a 64% increase among men and an 83% uptick among women in that demographic" |
The demo breakdowns seem so antiquated. To grab a bunch of people and group them based solely on age in 2020 seems ridiculous. Are these socially adjusted? The experience of an 18 year old kid in Harlem is going to be very different from a 32 year old in Des Moines. Is there a larger amount of LGTB viewers than usual? And do these people spend money?
These sound like some pretty important points of inquiry to potential advertisers, who would be trying to work out if paying for an ad slot that is going to reach only ~200,000 people in a certain “demo” is worth it. To see a bunch of fans get their panties moist because AEW got a 0.36 to Raw’s 0.4 is just fucking embarrassing. |
|
Very surprised this wasn't listed as "AEW only 1.2 million off SmackDown."

Anybody who feels like going back a few pages, I explained it. They are happy about what 20 more people watching represents according to a completely outdated model. |
Oh yeah. And I don't even know anyone in the 18-49 demo with cable anymore. They're getting about 400k people in that demo. That seems like an extremely small sample to market to. And what else do we know about these people? What else do they spend money on? Do they just pay for cable so they've got their wrestling and won't spend it on much else?
|
Sling, HuluLive, YouTubeTV, etc all count as cable in Nielsen ratings.
You don't know anyone who uses services like those...I doubt that. |
Holy shit, they count all that and it's still so low?! Oh wow, I thought that was just actual terrestrial cable.
Actually, no, I don't know anyone who uses those services. It's all Netflix, Stan, Disney+, Kayo and Amazon Prime down here. And the UFC and WWE have their apps if you're into them. The one I think we do get is YouTubeTV, but I don't know anybody who uses that. |

Looking at the average AEW fan, probably tabletop games and sex chat lines too. Not to shame anyone, but let’s stop pretending that the people in this demo are “cool” and who companies want their products to be associated with.
|
Well if they’re tabletop game, sex chat line and fatty snack companies, they should be all over this shit.

I figured it would be a tough week for RAW w/ both NBA and DNC and it was
1.64 million https://i.postimg.cc/3RwrmQgj/raw.png |
Doesn't bode well for the rest of the week.

NXT crushes AEW in the Wednesday Night War

I was thinking they wouldn't want to get below 850k without AEW. They landed right about there. Not spectacular for them, but a solid showing.
