So far, I'd say Hawkman (which has been Indiana Jones-esque) and Bendis's Superman stuff are what I'm enjoying. Enjoying Tom King's Batman stuff on and off (about to read Batman 53).

My problem with Scott Snyder's writing from METAL to now is that he has all these big cosmic ideas - but nothing gets time to land. It's just boom, off to the next mythos-defining concept. Barbatos, The Four Brothers, The tribe of the Hawk, The stuff happening now w/ "The Seven Energies" and "The Totality".

I don't feel like I really got to know Barbatos or The Four Brothers, for example. I'd like to see a concept introduced and then spend months showing me how it really has affected the DCU since the dawn of time. I feel like The 7 Energies/Totality will be the next thing never explained.

Haven't read #6 yet, but agree with METAL and No Justice..... just "too big" with not a lot of breathing room to focus on the characters..... Snyder's run on Batman was great, but he always focused on the characters more than "big ideas" (which he still had, but did alot with the characters still).

Lock Jaw 08-15-2018 11:12 PM

Meanwhile, I finally read all the other "New Age of Heroes" comics.....

I like The Terrifics (Fantastic Four feel), The Silencer (quasi John Wick ripoff), and I still am enjoying Sideways. Would prob rank them in that order.

The Immortal Men and The Unexpected are "interesting" in a weird "this might be good down the line" way.

Damage, Curse of Brimstone, and New Challengers are very skippable.

slik 08-15-2018 11:54 PM

53 was well-written...and I actually like the idea of Batman back in the trunks too but I might take a break from that too...IDK

slik 08-15-2018 11:54 PM

Maybe I should give a different Batbook a try

Really liked James Tynion's run on Detective Comics, but it is over now, and the current arc/writer doesn't live up to it..... I think James Robinson taking over the book soon.....

slik 08-16-2018 12:02 AM

Oh no James Robinson always writes 'lots of death'

I liked his Justice League when he was writing the actual book. Did not care so much for his Cry of Justice mini... which I guess is what you are talking about....

Lock Jaw 08-16-2018 12:10 AM

Noticed Commander Steel and Power Girl in that Heroes in Crisis promo image..... wonddr what the deal is....

slik 08-16-2018 12:18 AM

It's about a PTSD center for superheroes but a mass shooting or something happens at the ptsd center and DC is teasing 2-3 major characters will die

Feel like it will be 'beloved' characters like Tim Drake, Roy Harper and Wally West and they'll eventually have to 'bring them back to life'. The main characters are supposed to be Harley, Booster, Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman.

Kalyx triaD 08-16-2018 12:21 AM

Can't wait for a second crash that'll force comics to be fun again.

Lock Jaw 08-16-2018 12:22 AM

I know what the event is... just curious of those characters and how they fit into continuity now....

Don't think they will kill Tim, because he just "died" recently. Wally, maybe, but they just brought him back too, so he would probably come back again very soon after and move his story forward another step.....

Read Peter Tomassi's run on Superman or Super Sons...... very fun....

slik 08-16-2018 02:02 AM

Superman has become the most 'fun' DC character lately (imo)...started before Bendis was ever at DC, like you said Tomassi's run.

Shadow 08-16-2018 07:45 AM

Oh look another big event in DC where everyone's in Crisis.

God I hate this so much.

Lock Jaw 08-16-2018 10:41 AM

DC likes it "Crises", Marvel likes its "Wars"

slik 08-16-2018 10:45 AM

That's the truth!

I recently read ZERO HOUR: A CRISIS IN TIME and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Lock Jaw 08-16-2018 10:51 AM

I remember reading that as a kid, and thinking "who are all these lame old dudes?" @ the Justice Society.....

But since then the JSA have become one of my favs and going back and reading Zero Hour now is like "Wow! I can't believe they would just do that! That's outrageous!"

Oh I love Super Sons. Just a really fun book and a great candidate for an animated movie.

I know there's been some cool hero books but overall, everything's so drab. And if it isn't grim dark It's probably some preachy bullshit. DC is more in the clear than Marvel but generally speaking the big deconstruction wave of comics has left us with two universes of barely heroes.

Fignuts 08-16-2018 06:16 PM

There are lots of individual titles that are fun to read.

Its just the major crossovers that have been shit. If it were up to me I wouldn't even have them as all their fucking tie ins put good stories in other books on hold until the event is finished.

slik 08-17-2018 02:27 AM

People will one day look back very differently on this film, I believe. One of the best scenes in any superhero film, imo.

I thought it was good, only DC film I haven't liked is Justice League. Was just atrocious.

slik 08-17-2018 12:07 PM

I think Man Of Steel and Batman vs Superman are better films than most MCU films, but I'm also not a fan of the weird 'Marvel vs DC' obsession people have.

Lock Jaw 08-17-2018 12:55 PM

If you combined the good bits from Superman Returns with the good bits in Man of Steel, you would have a great Superman movie. As it stands, would much rather watch Superman Returns.

I would not recommend that one

Damian Rey 2.0 08-19-2018 03:44 PM

Man of Steel was a really interesting film that wasn't very good. But it's the best of the Snyder films.

Seanny One Ball 08-19-2018 04:24 PM

I like everything about it besides the plunge into "reality" with the acknowledged deaths of thousands of innocent bystanders.
Zack Snyder does the one thing that pulls the movie out of fun and into a level of self-worth that almost completely undermines the entire concept of Superman. He did the same thing to Batman. You need a bit of a cheeky wink to camera that lets you know you're ok every now and then. Zack Snyder exchanged the winks for more carnage.
It's a decent film but I don't think Snyder knows how to use comic characters. He's still stuck in Watchmen mode where everything has to die horribly and nobody cracks an honest smile.

He at least had plenty of laughs in Justice League which was actually the only thing that saved it from a negative review. Ezra Miller saved an entire movie that Zack Snyder tried his best to destroy.

Seanny One Ball 08-19-2018 04:25 PM

Oh and Amy Adams. She is a good actress but not in comic adaptations or science fiction films.

Kalyx triaD 08-20-2018 12:10 AM

Justice League went too far in the other direction. I don't have an issue with the DCEU being the more gloom of the two big universes. It was only BvS that pushed it to a depressing degree. Something a tad lighter than Man of Steel (Wonder Woman really) would be the right tone.

Seanny One Ball 08-20-2018 12:12 PM

The Phantom Of The Opera mask or a BAFTA award trophy, or perhaps it's a BAFTA for the Phantom Of The Opera.

Lock Jaw 08-20-2018 12:22 PM

The counsellors at The Sanctuary wear white bedsheets and golden masks. You can see a few in the background. Superman is holding an empty one that is all bloody.

Seanny One Ball 08-20-2018 12:24 PM

I'll be honest. I forget what he's up to these days what with him having been so busy for so long. I now see he was screenwriter, which probably accounts for the quality of Ezra Miller's Flash. Not to detract from Miller because his performance carries that film further than it has any right to go.

Destor 08-22-2018 11:58 AM

The Flash was Joss' classic humor written all over it. If you follow his work as soon as Flash hit the screen youre immediately like "Oh there's Joss." That and aquaman's confession screen Joss' writing style.

McLegend 08-24-2018 07:31 AM

Didn’t like Ezra Miller only because he doesn’t know how to run. Really bothers me.

Lock Jaw 09-07-2018 01:12 PM

Just read the latest issue of Justice League.

"Whoa" @
SPOILER: show
Starman Will Payton showing up..... one of the last characters I'd ever expect to see again..... wonder how he fits into continuity now....

Kalyx triaD 09-12-2018 10:47 AM

Seems Henry Cavil has quit Superman.

Lock Jaw 09-12-2018 11:04 AM

A shame after he finally had a good showing, but probably for the best to get away from the stink of Man of Steel and BvS and start fresh.

slik 09-12-2018 12:56 PM

I thought Cavil was a great Superman.

Sounds like Michael B Jordan (Kilmonger) might be the new Supes (rumors).

slik 09-12-2018 12:56 PM

There's a graphic novel series called 'Earth One: Superman' I think would make a good Supes film, it's a bit more modern take on him w/o continuity restraints.

slik 09-12-2018 02:37 PM

Speaking of Supes, some funny pages from the latest issue (Earth has become trapped in The Phantom Zone via S.T.A.R. Labs having a woops moment):

RP 09-14-2018 01:55 AM

I think Cavill is the next big thing in Hollywood which makes this news really unreal, unless he wants out of the role.

DC should be fighting to keep him as Superman. He is the next leading man in Hollywood. He's about to tear it up as The Witcher on Netflix.

Cavill has to be trying to get out of being Superman. Now way DC Movies wants him out. He's the best Superman they can have. It makes no sense. He has to be wanting out of this. Makes sense too. He's literally the next big deal in Hollywood. He might not want to be type casted.

Shadow 09-14-2018 08:22 AM

RP you're making the mistake that DC/Warner Bros. knows what the fuck they're doing. They don't. They're trying to ape Marvel/Disney's success without understanding the work that was put in to make it a success in the first place. Instead, we get the schizophrenic tone the DCCU has that turns off moving goers.

Kalyx triaD 09-14-2018 08:49 AM

Batman hangs dong in a new comic book:

Sixx 09-19-2018 11:10 PM

Lock Jaw 09-19-2018 11:12 PM

From a new comic called "Batman: Damned"

Part of DC's new "mature" "Black Label" line

slik 09-19-2018 11:14 PM

I read it earlier, actually pretty decent and 'dark'

It's own continuity and taking some liberties with some things from Bats past.

Sixx 09-19-2018 11:25 PM

"Mature" and "black label" as in "porn", right?

At least now we've got an answer to the question we've been asking ourselves for decades.

Batman IS circumsized.

Watched a fan film earlier called Joker Rising that has me interested to see this movie. Agree Ledger did a great job but I don't think that stops anyone else from pulling the character off. I think Leto did a great job with his version of Joker. Phoenix has that look though that I feel like once he gets into Joker mode it'll just feel right

Here is that fan film. It is a fan film and low budget but it told a good story. Guy that plays Joker reminded me of The Miz. It's about a hour an a half long

He doesn't have to top Ledger. And I doubt that's what he's shooting for. It's an interesting character to play, and Phoenix probably sees it as a chance to do something different and fun with an iconic character that he could put his own spin on.

People used to think Nicholson Joker was tut best till Ledger came along. I'm interested to see how this plays out.

Sixx 09-20-2018 02:53 AM

I think he's a terrible choice for Joker, but then again so I thought about Ledger.

I thought Leto might be good but we all know it ended.

So we'll just see.

By the way, we still don't know who's gonna be Batman?

Damian Rey 2.0 09-20-2018 12:50 PM

Leto didn't get a fair shake. He should've been the main villain in that movie. But he was nothing more than a sidecharacter with very little screen time. I don't think we got enough of him to know whether or not he'd be good. I didn't care for all the tattoos tho.

Kalyx triaD 09-20-2018 01:16 PM

They can't just never do a live action Joker again because Ledger was great.

Seanny One Ball 09-20-2018 02:36 PM

Well they've tripled down on Joker sense Ledger with Leto, Phoenix, and the Gotham TV show. I think with the Star Wars rebirth and Hamil getting big praise as the animated Joker they've seemed to want to find that next great live action Joker.

This 32 second clip is better than everything Jared Leto. I'm warming up to Phoenix as Joker right now.

Simple Fan 09-21-2018 09:01 PM

I don't like the red nose and blue eye paint. Looks too much like a clown. I know he's the Clown Prince of Crime but I feel like that's too much on the nose so to speak.

Also Leto was a good Joker and didnt get a fair shake at the character.

RP 09-21-2018 09:20 PM

I didnt like the colors either. Red i dont care. THe blue was a little much.

Lock Jaw 09-21-2018 09:25 PM

Probably not the actual "Joker look", but just some actual clown makeup that he wears before he becomes the Joker

Simple Fan 09-21-2018 09:26 PM

Feel like the hair is s bit long as well. I thought Phoenix was a good choice because I imagined his Johnny Cash look only as Joker but that's completely different than what I imagined. I won't let that deter me from the movie as I'm still interested in it but the look has me disappointed.

Seanny One Ball 09-22-2018 09:25 AM

He's a far, far better fit for the role than Jared Leto. I think he's a better pick than Ledger too. Joaquin Phoenix is a consistently great actor and I never had that much love for anyone besides Jack Nicholson in the role.

Emperor Smeat 09-22-2018 06:09 PM

Really like Phoenix's Joker appearance since it gives off a playful sociopath feel to it.

Compared to Legder or classic Joker tv/film appearances, didn't really like Leto's design.
