Update on the current state of the UK scene:

There is a new promotion called "Fight Forever" and their inaugural Champion is Flip Gordon.

Super bleak.

I prefer strong style over everything (which is why Ishii, Goto, and Suzuki are my favorites from the current crop of NJPW) so I don't get tired of them.

What bothers me is them doing the "19 count" spot way too often.

Yeah, I think I covered that first bit. I just think it's pretty poor psychology sometimes. There are times when it makes sense to me and I enjoy it, but other times it is about as dumb as North American wrestling can get.

I get the 19 count spot though. That's started cropping up elsewhere too. For some reason, I associate Ambrose with the labored 9 count spot. Felt like he was doing that every match for a while.

Ticket prices too high or a reflection on the current product?

I would guess that it's a compounding problem. The product is crappy, so less people go, so they jack up prices, so less people go.

I love that Becky is giving this gimmick gusto, but I'm quite worried she is going to overstep a line in playing to the internet crowd one of these days and get herself into "Oh yeah? We'll see about that" hot water with the wrong people.

What was the one match that got you guys hooked on wrestling?

Mine was Hogan vs Warrior.

Splaya 12-08-2018 01:37 PM

I didn't really start watching wrestling until 1998. I dabbled in watching WWF on Saturday mornings but we didn't have cable until 1996. My cousin wrote for his high school newspaper and had to cover Wrestlemania 14 for it. So that's basically when I got hooked. So I'd say Undertaker vs Kane (due to the mystique and the backstory) and clearly Michaels and Austin.

But the one match that hooked me into watching every single week every single hour for the better half of 15 years was HHH and Rock SS 98 for the IC belt in a ladder match.

I know that there are so many matches before this but still.

LibSuperstar 12-08-2018 01:48 PM

There wasn't a singular match. It was the whole package that got me into wrestling in '91-92.

Watched wrestling as a kid but was more into the toys than watching the product, and then stopped watching for a bit, and then got pulled back in by Undertaker vs. Mankind in the boiler room brawl when Paul Bearer turned on Taker because I was all "Whoa!"

Then I saw Bret/Austin at WM13 and was "officially" hooked I think.

I can't remember what initially got me into wrestling. I remember what got me hooked again.

A Malenko-Guerrero classic from ECW.

Sepholio 12-08-2018 07:03 PM

I can't really put my finger on a single match. I already watched wrestling a little bit at the time, but it wasn't a big deal to me or anything. But 2 things changed that for me: The formation of the nWo got me started down the path to fandom and then the feud between Raven (THE FLOCK!) and Kanyon.

wwe2222 12-08-2018 07:14 PM

Was always a fan on and off but fandom cemented by Bret Hart vs Mr Perfect at Summerslam 91. Really that whole PPV.

Nicky Fives 12-08-2018 08:16 PM

Undertaker/Mankind Boiler Room Brawl is the first match I remember ever watching, so I guess it would have to be that one....

mike adamle 12-08-2018 08:40 PM

The first wrestling related memory I have was from the first time I saw Royal Rumble 1994. I'm not sure if I watched it live (I would've only been two so I doubt this, I'm assuming I was around 4 when my dad rented the vhs.) But I vividly remembered all the heels dominating Taker, I was mesmerized by the green shit coming outta the urn, I assumed that's what people turned into after they died. I was amazed by the post match speech from inside the casket.

And if that wasn't enough Bret Hart was my favorite wrestler and he heroically co-won the Royal Rumble. I was hooked.

Stopped watching around 2003-4 but once again became hooked one night in April 2007. Was on the phone with my best friend because she would always call me every night and talk about nothing. I was flipping through channels and saw Raw was on. At the time I'd always check it out but normally change the channel after 5 minutes. This time John Cena was wrestling Shawn Michaels in England. They ended wrestling for like an hour and I just remember my friend getting annoyed with me because I wasn't paying attention to anything she was saying because I knew I was watching a classic.

That hooked me in until about 2014. The product just became too unbearable even though all my favorite indy wrestlers are there which is really ironic. I still go to WrestleMania and some of the shows that weekend but really that's just as an excuse to go on vacation and see my girl from Mexico who comes up to see me during that week. Hopefully the move to Fox will change things and make wrestling fun again.

#1-norm-fan 12-08-2018 08:47 PM

I can't even pin down a wrestling memory that got me into it. I was born into a family of wrestling fans. I just remember Hogan in general. I do have a pretty clear memory of Flair-Steamboat from WrestleWar '89 though.

#1-norm-fan 12-08-2018 08:48 PM

Oddly enough, as a kid in the 80's, I was all about Hogan/WWF but all the matches I remember watching live are NWA/WCW.

Apparently Big Cass had a seizure at tonight's House of Hardcore show.

Sepholio 12-09-2018 04:37 AM

Someone sat there and made video of him seizing. That's sad. I hate the world.

Hope he recovers and that it's nothing too serious.

Cool King 12-09-2018 12:25 PM

Sorry to disappoint all four of the guys here that read my 2002 ramblings every Sunday but there won't be anything from me tonight as I've been out of action today with a really bad cold.

My day has pretty much been spent sitting on my couch doing absolutely nothing apart from watching repeats of Friends, as there is never anything on TV on Sunday's during the day and that was the best thing that was on.

So Vengeance 2002 will most likely be getting watched next weekend when I'm hopefully at 100%.

Cool King 12-09-2018 12:25 PM

However, to make it up to all of you, here's an out of context gif and image from what I've watched so far:

Seth Rollins will address the status of RAW after low ratings.

I'm pretty sure I hate Nia Jax. Like, maybe she is really nice person, but I've just got this impression that she's an insufferable cunt.

Lol, you're not joking. He's going to address "the state of the brand." Wtf? Imagine advertising a Seth Rollins talking segment, let alone one where he's talking about "the state of the brand." What a goober.

ClockShot 12-10-2018 07:47 PM

I hope he's truthful and says "It's all Vince's fault".

He won't.

This is a good trailer for a promotion.

A total of 2 seconds of Kiera Hogan was all I need to see for interest.

However, it looks well put together enough to watch for other things besides a little eye candy. So long as they don't go full Wrestling Society X cheezy or even Lucha Underground camp.

Mr. Nerfect 12-11-2018 12:06 AM

Cool. I like that there's a theme and a purpose behind WOW. I'd give it a shot if I had AXS.

Mr. Nerfect 12-11-2018 01:57 AM

I just had this weird premonition of them doing Braun vs. Cena at Mania. I can see Vince throwing a fit and saying "We need Braun to be a top babyface" and them deciding that Cena is the best choice for someone to get cheered against and for him to take the torch off. I can see Vince going into "star-making mode" heading into this year's Mania, since it's apparent they've got no one left.

Seth will get Brock and AJ can have Shawn.

They keep doing this to themselves. If they would have capitalized on Braun when he got hot instead of trying to work around that to keep lazer focus on Roman, your little premonition would be wholely unneccessary.

They need to go back to sewing seeds and slow builds of multiple people instead of trying to hotshot a couple of people when they get into a jam. They need to go back to being flexible on changing gears when a heel or face turn is warranted by the crowd.

DAMN! Heard on the radio another house-show was coming here in February..... but I checked WWE.com and it is another RAW house-show.... So was the last one that came here, which I went to and had fun, but I was really hoping for Smackdown...... don't know if I even want to go to a RAW house-show at this point....

Mr. Nerfect 12-11-2018 07:25 PM

I wouldn't give them any money.

Eh, I'm not sold on Braun at all. But if you're going to try and depend on full-time guys, he and Seth should be looked after better on the Raw side. Man, how compelling?

I went last time and had fun... but feel like the only guy still on the RAW roster who I saw from back then that I'd want to see again is Elias.... and even then he won't be as fun without trying to insult and get into it with the fans.

Fignuts 12-11-2018 09:27 PM

Now Elias is just there to have fun.

Jordan 12-12-2018 12:25 AM

I feel like any one of you could name your "worst year in WWE" history and it would be tough to find one worse than this year. A lot of people would say 95 but I'd say give me HBK vs Razor, Diesel vs Mo and Undertaker vs Issac Yankem DDS any day over this trash.

SlickyTrickyDamon 12-12-2018 01:06 AM

You're out of your Glen Goza lovin' mind.

Probably 1993. Not very much going on at all. 2018 beats all those shit years hands down.

93 is bad but at least there is mystique there. You still had anticipation for Luger's big run, what would happen with Bret and Lawler, HBK was on the verge of greatness... yeah the shows mostly suck and there aren't many great matches to my memory. But 95, I can go back and pick up anywhere and enjoy the storytelling. They told good major stories then.

I was just thinking that to myself today as I was watching SmackDown.

A while ago I thought to myself "when the WWE come back here, I really don't think I'll even try to get tickets" but today as I was watching SmackDown, I thought "if the WWE come back and it's a SmackDown show in Scotland, then I'd probably get some tickets."

That's mostly because of The New Daniel Bryan.

I'm really enjoying the gimmick but the roster itself is much better than Raw's.

Cool King 12-12-2018 03:42 PM

At this point, I probably wouldn't go to a Raw show even if you paid me.

Nope her dad is a music producer so she can just release something without having much talent.

Yep.

I love the D'Lo shirt way more than I should.

Droz looks like a real life Edgar from Metalocalypse.

This almost feels like parody. But not intentional parody. If that makes any sense. One, it seems like a throwaway song written for absolutely anyone by some studio writer. If they land a big name, great. If it launches a career, fine. If it sits in a pile unused, it doesn't matter, because they get paid in volume and they've got two dozen more ready to go. The production is just poppy enough to appeal to your average 6 year old for real and also generic enough be able to establish that you're in a nightclub on some procedural police drama cold open.

It seems like it's intended to be used like a new "With My Baby Tonight" was with Road Dogg; a gimmick to help her get over that is both not neccessary and not going to work long-term.

For a moment i thought that was Blue Meanie in the chair, Droz has really packed on the weight which is understandable with him being wheelchair bound. D-lo looks to be quite a bit heavier as well.

KOTR 93 is awesome.

Someone just watched osw review.

2010 "Guest GM" Year was really really bad.

Lock Jaw 12-13-2018 11:56 PM

Except for The Muppets.

The Muppets should be on RAW full-time.

Truth. Got that big Hogan/Yoko match that felt major and the Bret Hart show throughout, good stuff. Easy to watch.

SlickyTrickyDamon 12-14-2018 12:22 AM

Bob Barker was great too.

Statler and Waldorf should commentate RAW. That'd be the greatest thing of all time, ever.

*Baron Corbin promo*

"I call that a medium promo"

"Why's that?"

"Well, it wasn't rare and it CERTAINLY wasn't well done!"

Oh-ho-ho-ho-ho!

REAL TALK: Bret vs Perfect at KOTR 93 was better than their more famous Summerslam match.

Whole show was probably Bret's greatest performance.

its definitely in my top 3. I still go back and watch it. It is the match that cemented me as a fan.

The KOTR match may have been better, but everything around the SS91 match (crowd, commentary, etc) was more exciting. Also, by 93, it was pretty much guaranteed Bret was going to win that match.

Eh.... I dunno about that. The drama of Summerslam is epic. This match at KOTR was a perfect piece to the story of the night. 3 totally different matches. I prefer the Summerslam match but they are both great.

100% the truth. Perfect was healthy and the match was worked way faster and more technical.

Ol Dirty Dastard 12-14-2018 11:01 AM

watch the matches side-by-side if you doubt it. KOTR 93 match is at a different level. Perfect could barely walk in 1991 match and was out of shape.

Big Vic 12-14-2018 12:23 PM

Hart vs Perfect @ WCW Uncensored '98 was pretty great.

Vastardikai 12-14-2018 02:43 PM

That KOTR had one of the most underrated series of matches of all time: Mr. Perfect vs. Doink. And if you doubt me, re watch those matches.

Not the PPV itself though.

And yeah, Matt Borne vs Curt Hennig 3 times was always gonna be awesome.

Goddammit, where is CyNick to call this brilliant television.
