Some concept art.

Juri:

Capoeira fighter:

I'm guessing there is more. I wouldn't mind seeing them, if I could find them.

Kalyx triaD 05-30-2010 08:52 AM

Yeah I saw those, happy with Juri's final design. There seems to be some black guy they wanted to add (Ken's first alt attire was based on this new character).

Blitz 05-30-2010 12:30 PM

I want a Capoeira fighter :(

Kalyx triaD 05-30-2010 01:30 PM

Elena's in 3rd Strike. May never see her in another game.

http://www.fightersgeneration.com/ch.../elena-win.gif

She certainly brings depth and variety to the franchise.

I've read he was called King Cobra. I actually like hearing about concept characters. I remember Seth Killian saying on Gametrailers that they had a concept for a karate clown character.

We might get Elena eventually what with them considering adding more characters through DLC. We already have her stage. I've never played as her before, though so she's as good as a brand new character to me.

Kalyx triaD 05-30-2010 02:26 PM

Like other characters in 3rd Strike she had a pretty unique movelist.

I meant in SFIV, obvs.

Kalyx triaD 05-31-2010 02:16 AM

I know.

Drakul 06-01-2010 05:27 AM

So there is more on the rumour about DLC. The source is originally eventhubs but I got it from GameFAQs. I heard eventhubs is crawling with viruses etc so I'm not going there.

I'm going to be lazy and copy/paste the post from GameFAQs.

SPOILER: show
Quote:

Here's the link to the rumor:
http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2010/m...eet-fighter-4/

And here's who will make it if true.

Ono said Rolento, R. Mika and Hugo were to be in the game if there was time to include them / like to see in the game.

Yun and Yang have cameoed in both games so far and I think it's time they pull an Adon.

Karin and Elena have sizable fan followings that can help get them included.

Birdie and Sodom are the only living characters from the first Alpha game not in this one. Sodom in particular will be a riot in this game.

So in Summary
- Roloento - Lock
- R. Mika - Lock
- Hugo - Very Likely
- Karin - Likely
- Elena - Likely (the Africa stages give her a pretty good edge)
- Yun and Yang - Possible
- Birdie - Possible
- Sodom - Possible
- Everyone else - Remote
Rolento, R.Mika & Sodom would be great. Hugo & Birdie would be cool. I'm not too bothered about anyone else, really.

I wouldn't mind one or two brand new characters appearing through DLC. Just, please, no more Gi wearing, projectile throwing types.

In other news, I'm now used to Zangiefs Siberian Blizzard and can connect with it most of the time. I'm still getting fed up with constantly fighting Ken/Ryu online but using the SB makes it a little more tolerable.

Question: Why don't EX moves absorb hits? I'm sure in SFIV most EX moves absorbed most other moves but in SSFIV, every move can break through almost all of my EX moves.

Kalyx triaD 06-01-2010 05:34 AM

EV moves have fairly generous intangible start-up frames, you're gonna have to rock with that. 'Gief's walking grab has armor, though.

If half of those characters in that list make the cut Capcom will have not only delivered the ultimate Street Fighter game, but a game I don't even think we deserve. It's too good to be true.

Drakul 06-01-2010 05:45 AM

With DLC, how much will they/could they charge? If outfits are 320, wont characters be about 1200?

With DLC characters, I hope they get a "story" in arcade mode. Maybe have alt outfits unlock for the DLC character by completing arcade with them. It gives us something to do and a reason to play arcade with them.

I think Zangiefs walk is the only thing that has armour but it's only effective against a punch, kick or hadouken. Something like a shoryuken, spiral arrow or Abels wheel kick rips right through it.

I have an idea to stop projectile spamming. Give projectile users an additional meter. It could refill when not in use and the amount taken from it depends on if it's a weak, meadium or strong projectile. It'll never happen but if I could have my way...

I'd totally agree to a five character pack (with an update to rebalance the game) for 1200. That's "Super Street Fighter 4 Turbo" right there. Super 4 was already a steal.

Nah, fireball spammers are their own worst enemy. It really is easy to get around them and force them to fight. Hell, I love seeing somebody trying to pull that shit with me.

Dhalsim players should burn in a fire though. Pussies.

Abels ex heel kick thing goes through just about everything.

Used to. Now that I am halfway decent with him, I seem to get knocked out of it on a regular basis.

Drakul 06-02-2010 01:54 AM

I fought a Guy player yesterday. He won the 1st round and I won the 2nd round. In the final round he didn't move so, in the name of fairplay, I didn't attack incase his batteries had died or he had to stop for some reason.
The timer reaches zero and we both have full health and the fight is declared a draw. So, why did he gain 18 points and why did I lose 18 points?

Last time a ranked match ended as a draw, no one gained or lost any points.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-02-2010 03:05 AM

I take it you were higher rank than him? If so, he gained points for holding his own with you while you lost them for drawing with a lower rank.

When that happens though, kick the shit out of them. It's not usually batteries, but the game can lose sync so he's still fighting on his console, but you're standing still. When it happens, it's usually free points for both of you.

Kalyx triaD 06-02-2010 08:41 AM

No mercy in ranked. None. Ever.

My problem with Plinking (and elitist contradictions):

First read this EventHubs.com explanation of Plinking:

Quote:

Understanding Plinking

Plinking is basically entering two button presses at almost the exact same time — with just a 1 frame difference. So if you pressed Medium Punch and 1 frame later pressed Light Punch the Input Display would look like this.

(LP)(MP)
(MP)

Again, for this to work right the button presses must be done in VERY quick succession. A 1 frame difference is 1/60th of a second, so to the casual observer, it would look like you're hitting both buttons at the same time, but there's a slight difference.

Plinking gives you one more chance at hitting the correct timing window for combos, because instead of the game reading your input as Medium Punch and then Light Punch, it reads it as Medium Punch and 1 frame later — Medium Punch again.

This works because heavier button strengths have priority over others. If you press Light Punch and Medium Punch at the same time — Medium Punch will come out.

Why is this a big deal? Some of the combos in Super Street Fighter 4 require a 1/60th of a second timing window. If you're slightly off, your combo won't land. So instead of having just one chance at landing a difficult combo, Plinking gives you one additional shot to land it, essentially making the window 2/60ths of a second.

Timing is still EXTREMELY important, but this technique helps when trying to land difficult combos, and it's used by many of the top players around the globe.
Decent advice, but why go through the trouble of this when Capcom could simply open the link window by a frame (or two)? Also, this supports an old observation of mine that high level conventions seem to be things that make the game easier to play (Plinking, using arcade sticks, option selects).

All that is well and good, but if Capcom were to actually open the link window by a frame, elitist would cry foul - even though they strive to do just that. People would tell me my preference for playing with a 'pad' (thumbstick now) is scrubbish, even though they admit plainly that they use sticks because pads are too hard for them. Option selects are tech-throws with weak attacks to cover their ass in the event they guessed wrong.

So it's all well and good to discover techniques to lessen effort in combat, yet when a company officiates certain techniques, or lessens the executions needed for these techniques in the exact same spirit of lowering frustration, elitist bitch about the companies catering to noobs.

Just thought I'd share my thoughts.

A video of a Canadian Wrestler called Kenny Omega. No idea why it's using Megaman music.
