I speculated (partly in jest) that since Kamiya (Bayonetta, Okami, DMC1) doesn't do sequels, but people are demanding a 'sequel' to Bayonetta, that his next action game will actually be a new IP altogether. His response was: "Hmm..."

Gonna try the demo...

Giant Bomb did a quick look a good while ago, and it reminds me a lot of the old GTA. Probably wouldn't get it myself unless it was under five bucks.

Yeah. Tried it out. It's fun, but I'm gonna wait for it to go on sale.

Blizzard wants their due for supplying Korean eSports:

Quote:

StarCraft isn't a game in South Korea, it's a national pastime. When gamers aren't playing it, they can watch tournaments on TV. But its creator, Blizzard Entertainment, is unhappy. And it has every right to be.

Blizzard's Paul Sams appeared at a press conference in Seoul late last week and blasted cable channels MBC Game and OnGameNet for televising tournaments without the company's permission, reports the Korea Times.

"It's unfortunate that the e-sports industry in Korea is lagging behind other industries in recognition of intellectual property (IP) rights and the basic principles related to them," said Sams. "Korea is the only region in the world where we have had to resort to litigation to protect our IP rights." Blizzard is considering launching a lawsuit against the Korea e-Sports Players Association (KeSPA).

Blizzard allowed MBC Game and OnGameNet to show KeSPA tournaments until August — yet, the broadcasters continued to run StarCraft tournaments through the fall. Meanwhile, the game company signed an exclusive deal with Gretech-GomTV to show StarCraft tournaments.

The argument that broadcasters are making is that games used in professional tournaments are public domain and it would be akin to Adidas billing to have its balls used in games.

Sams was quick to reject that claim, noting, "Classifying StarCraft and other e-sports as part of the public domain deprives developers such as Blizzard of their IP rights. There will be no incentive to do what Blizzard had done to balance the games for competition, which is a more difficult task than creating a normal game."

StarCraft isn't like Adidas footballs, and that analogy would better be suited to peripheral makers. StarCraft is Blizzard's show — every little thing in that game was created by someone at Blizzard. E-sports are a different beast than sports.

New Tomb Raider is a Prequel:

Quote:

Developer Crystal Dynamics is working on a new Tomb Raider meant to be an origin story for Lara Croft, the studio said today.

"Forget everything you knew about TOMB RAIDER," said Darrell Gallagher, Head of Studio, Crystal Dynamics. [Done] "This is an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other."

The game, they say, will feature the first adventure for a young and inexperienced Lara Croft in a story which "charts the journey of an ordinary woman who finds out just how far she must go in order to stay alive."

"After a brutal storm destroys the boat she was travelling on, a frightened young woman is left washed ashore on an unknown beach. On her own but not alone she has only one goal, to survive"

That box art being in English should not only put a smile on the face of British and Irish fans; it also increases the odds of the collection making its way to North America and Australasia as well.

Super Mario All-Stars was first released on the Super Nintendo, and includes updated (well, by SNES standards) versions of NES/Famicom classics Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels

Source.

Might go ahead and buy this if I can afford it. If I can't, it's no big deal as I bought Mario 1, 2 (Japanese 2 and our 2) & 3 on the VC. As well as SMW.

So, it arrived today. I've not tried the actual game out yet but it's identicle to the SNES version so I know how things will go.

I flicked through the history booklet that comes with it and it's not so much "history" as it is Miyamoto, Koji Kondo and some other guy giving one line comments about each console Mario game up to SMG2. Most of it is not even interesting stuff. It's stuff like "I wanted to have Mario run under a blue sky so that's what we did.". 2 or 3 things are new to me but most of it isn't interesting. There is nothing else to the booklet other than those little comments and a couple of design documents in Japanese.
I was expecting something like a paragraph about each game with stuff like "We created Mario because...etc etc" and "We originally intended to do this or that but couldn't because..." and so on.

The OST that comes with it has 20 tracks. The first 10 being one piece of music straight from each Mario (1, 2, 3, World, 64, Sunshine, NSMB, Galaxy, NSMBW and Galaxy 2.). The NSMB theme sounds better with CD quality than it does from the DS, obviously. So that's a plus.
The other 10 tracks are just sounds you can find pretty easily online. The coin sound, the pipe sound etc.

I don't think it was really worth the price (£19.99 in the UK). I like the idea of a Mario anniversary package but, in the end, they could have done better than the shoddy job they did, even if it meant charging more. This is worth £9.99 maximum, I'd say.

Fignuts 12-06-2010 03:30 PM

Oh boy, more tomb raider games.

Uncharted does it about 65347376543 times better. Talk to me when the next installment in that series is announced.

Boomer 12-06-2010 03:33 PM

Too bad my Uncharted 1 freezes every fucking time I play, with whatever fucking disk I use. Probably never going to play Uncharted 2 because of this bullshit.

Xero 12-06-2010 03:38 PM

Is your save corrupted?

Boomer 12-06-2010 05:16 PM

I've started the game over and over and over, with new firmwares, by formatting the hard drive, by doing every logical step, and it won't fucking work. I get to Chapter 6 or so, and it freezes. I reload it, and the coin spins infinitely. When I hard-reset the console and boot it back up, it freezes at the coin. I've honestly tried everything. Its my PS3, and I know no one that lives anywhere close to me that owns a PS3. My system has never had any issues otherwise. It's bizarre.

Fignuts 12-06-2010 05:43 PM

Well uncharted 2 might still work. There are a couple returning characters from 1, but beyond that, the plot is seperate from the first.

Boomer 12-06-2010 06:10 PM

I'm sure it would. It's just that I want to play Uncharted 1 first. If I play Uncharted 2, I doubt I will want to return to the former. I will suffer through crazy amounts of a series to make sure I've playing everything in order. Probably the reason I've never played Dragon Quest.

Plus, I've played through enough of the game that I want to finish it first. Such a tease. Barely even got to the good parts.

RoXer 12-06-2010 06:27 PM

How long do you let it load? Leave it on all night and see hwhat happens

Fignuts 12-06-2010 06:35 PM

Too bad, because Uncharted 2 has imo, the best single player campaign of any game this generation.

G 12-06-2010 06:49 PM

yeah you will be missing out

I let it load for at least 5 hours at one point. It gets pretty obvious when the soundtrack disappears that the game is about to be on its last leg. And like I said, I've tried it with multiple copies, so it is my console. The Naughty Dog forums are filled with people complaining about various freezing problems, and have been since the 3.3 firmware supposedly broke the game.

Basically just makes me mad at this point. I've seriously played the game over at least five times, hoping it would make a difference. Farthest I got was Chapter 8, I think.

I've heard good things. And damn, I really like what I've played of the first, so its got to be way better than that.

Guess I could try again. Just gonna make me mad though.

G 12-06-2010 10:51 PM

you could always just youtube the rest. it's a pretty short game, like 5 hours or so.

Boomer 12-06-2010 10:59 PM

I've considered it, but I bought the game, so I want to play it.

Basically putting myself in an impossible situation. Sony told me I could send my PS3 in, but I didn't think it was worth the time. Probably past my warranty now. And like I said, my PS3 works perfectly otherwise.

Emperor Smeat 12-07-2010 08:14 PM

Next James Bond video game might be heavy in stealth and actual spy stuff than movie action style previous James Bond games have been. Activision is letting Raven Software develop the new Bond game and hopes for a 2011/2012 release date.

It is also possible since the good reviews of GoldenEye for the Wii which added stealth to a Bond game could have favored the decision to move the series in a new direction at least for 1 game.

The game was originally stopped in development due to the possibility of MGM no longer owning the Bond license but the plan now is to finish the game while Activision is still the exclusive developers before MGM makes a decision.

http://kotaku.com/5707833/james-bond...icense-tosneak

Kalyx triaD 12-07-2010 08:18 PM

I love the simplistic reasoning of these companies:

GoldenEye Wii was well received... It had stealth sections > Make a Bond game with more stealth sections!

I don't even remember reviews praising the stealth sections in particular. But it's Raven Software so I'm good for this.

Emperor Smeat 12-07-2010 08:28 PM

To be fair, Activision didn't actually say that was a reason but since Raven Software barely makes any console stealth games and GoldenEye was pretty good at adding stealth as an option, its possible Activision saw it as an opportunity to change up the Bond formula.

It wasn't Rainbow Six or Splinter Cell quality in stealth but it did work well in a Bond game.

The other Bond game, Blood Stone, didn't do well in sales or praise and that was more of a typical action style Bond game so it could have been another influence in the change of direction.

Kalyx triaD 12-07-2010 08:50 PM

I promise the failure of Blood Stone was based on everything but it being an 'action packed shooter'. It was just sub-par. lol

It's the difference between an inspired game with a vision in mind and a simple cash-in. Sometimes it overlaps and companies get lucky, but usually we see bullshit that deserves to get the cold shoulder.

The upcoming Thor game will probably play like God of War, but in the way Origins Wolverine played like GoW. Origins had a vision in mind for how a Wolverine game should play (made by Raven Software!), and GoW was a sensible point of reference. Thor may play like GoW simply because the subject matter is similar. Entire games were made out of shallow concepts like that before. When I seen the pic of Thor on top of some beast, it fueled my prediction further.

I just hate game development like that.

This is the worst news I've read in a while.

There isn't much that separates the Resident Evil series from other third-person shooters these days. The one thing the series held true to over the years was its tank controls and "you can't shoot and walk" routine. Non-fans of the games have complained about the series' old-school sensibilities for a while now, and it looks like Capcom has finally given in to their whining.

In Resident Evil: Mercenaries for the 3DS, you'll be able to move and shoot. Personally, I won't do it, not unless the game becomes unplayable to play it that way. The way the Resident Evil series forces you to play keep away with your enemies is easily my favorite thing about it. Underneath all the spooky atmosphere and scripted scares, the need to run from your enemies so that you can shoot them from a safe distance is the one thing that kept the series scary. Without that, I'm honestly not that interested in playing it anymore.

Or am I being too harsh?
No you're not... This news is terrible. Capcom is fucking trolling with this. I hope the other RE 3DS game holds true to the RE trope.

G 12-08-2010 09:20 AM

Konami has confirmed to IGN it will release X-Men Arcade for Xbox Live Arcade next week on Wednesday, Dec. 15. Pricing details have not been revealed.

next week

Funky Fly 12-08-2010 06:37 PM

No price announced probably means 1200. Seems to be the new "sweet spot", sadly.

G 12-08-2010 06:41 PM

Sometime in 2012 I'm calling a 1600 "sweet spot"

Funky Fly 12-08-2010 07:11 PM

That would be gay, because you get 1600 for $20. We get 1400 for $20.

OssMan 12-08-2010 07:13 PM

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Xenosaga III

G 12-08-2010 07:15 PM

But you already get 1200 for more than we pay, right?

Funky Fly 12-08-2010 07:23 PM

We get cards in 1400 and 2800 increments. If all the DLC starts coming out at 1600, it makes those 1400 cards useless.

Emperor Smeat 12-08-2010 08:06 PM

Depending on how you interpret what one of the EA bosses said, EA might be getting rid of single player games or pushing more emphasis on multiplayer/co-op only games in the near future.

Quote:

Chatting with trade site Develop, Gibeau says "I volunteer you to speak to EA's studio heads; they'll tell you the same thing. They're very comfortable moving the discussion towards how we make connected gameplay – be it co-operative or multiplayer or online services – as opposed to fire-and-forget, packaged goods only, single-player, 25-hours-and you're out. I think that model is finished."

"Online is where the innovation, and the action, is at".
This plan would benefit their One Time Pass a lot since now you would be required to activate or pay just to play the game instead of before only needing to activate/pay for multiplayer modes and not single/offline modes.

It is also possible EA just wants to add even more DLC and pay content while focusing less time on needing to create a single player mode or content. Sports games could be affected by getting rid of campaigns or Be A Pro mode.

In other EA related news, Dead Space 2 demo should be available on December 21 for XBLA and PSN in the US/Canada while Europe just needs to wait an extra day for it.

Just another reason to not like EA.

It would seem 3DS' RE Revelations takes place after RE5, and Jill took a liking to her catsuit.

http://fast1.onesite.com/capcom-unit...9.jpg?v=270000

Don't think they're using Julia Voth's likeness for Jill anymore. Chris has a new suit as well.

They BETTER use her damn likeness. Jill V's look seperated her from most generic looking broads in gaming.
