I'll watch MMA. Love watching MMA. I don't go so far as to know stats, or whatever. But man, is it good to watch some fighting.
Prefer K1, honestly. Boxing can get boring, MMA can get really boring when the fight goes to the floor. Dudes in K1 just keep beating the shit outta one another. Bring back Pride FC - that was the shit. |
Same Drave. I don’t know many of the big stars but if mma is on, I’ll leave it on and watch hoping to see a few guys throw some bombs
|
|
Bomb themes keep comin!!

Sakuraba, Marco, Fedor...Pride was the shit. |
I was such a massive Pride fan. Cro Cop all day.
|
The awesome Tokyo dome entrances with that whacky ring announcer. I forgot her name.
|
Lenne Hardt! I remember being shocked that this voice was coming from a white woman and not a Japanese lady

She did some New Japan appearances didn't she?
|
Mirko Muthafuckin Cro Cop.
Ernesto Hoost too, man. Stefan Leko (I think this dude is still active). Mainly K1, but I think they popped up once or twice. So many good fights. |
UFC has been penominal since covid. Definitely killing it much more than pro wrestling.
|
Wanderlei Silva was always another pride favorite too.
|
Igor Vovchanchyn used to fucking crush guys. Been spending the past hour watching old Cro Cop Pride Fights. I totally forgot how vicious his knock out of Vovchanchyn was
|
Yeah Igor was on the first Pride show I ever saw. He knocked the fuck out of someone.
Main event was Sakuraba vs Renzo Gracie. It ended when Renzo had his back, but Sakuraba spun behind him and in the process broke Renzo's fucking arm. I was hooked after that. |
According to the Observer Newsletter, Ivelisse currently has some backstage heat regarding a recent issue with her and a few of AEW coaches.
That's been the reason why Diamante has been doing singles matches in recent weeks. Quote:

Was a little behind but caught up. Really enjoying Show on commentary. Feel like lots of new guys that come into commentary try to make everything about them. Paul is really smooth, calls matches really well, and really focuses on putting talent over. Had no idea he'd be this good at it.
|
Sakuraba - the "Gracie Hunter". Fuckin badass

I'd really like to see the next evolution of Jericho at the end of this stable war. Perhaps less comedy and more of that bruiser style he brought to NJPW.

Supposedly AEW wanted their match to be a bit more physical than usual for a AEW women's match to tap into Rosa's MMA background. Problem was that whole plan quickly fell apart after Rosa accidentally went a bit too stiff on a spot or two leading to Ivelisse getting quickly pissed off and her bad rep of being a hothead and pain to deal with being displayed for all to see. I'm surprised she's lasted this long in AEW since even in Lucha Underground she was supposedly a pain to deal with and they only held tapings a few times per year. |

I don't understand what this means
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">When a wolf cries wolf you still see that wolf’s teeth. </p>— Brandi Rhodes (@TheBrandiRhodes) <a href="https://twitter.com/TheBrandiRhodes/status/1379127480775237635?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 5, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

That still doesn't make sense. Crying wolf has nothing to do with talking trash. It's more about faking an injury or proclaiming there's an emergency when there is none.
|
Quote:
|
It's stupid.
|
Lol I saw that Tweet yesterday and was puzzled as well.
Who is crying wolf is irrelevant. Even if a wolf cries wolf they’re still crying wolf. Otherwise it’s just a wolf telling the truth. Why even mention “crying wolf”? Unless she’s saying that wolf is literally crying “WOLF!”. In which case it’s ratting out itself and/or a fellow wolf. But you can still see it’s teeth. So even though it’s a traitor to the wolves, it is not to be trusted because teeth. We need more backstory on this wolf. |
Quote:
The metaphor is that people who talk trash are like the boy who cried wolf in that they're all phonies or liars but a real wolf talks trash to communicate it's actual status, and if you're mistaken that I'm not a wolf and I'm doing it to deceive you, you're going to realize I'm an actual wolf once you see my teeth. |
Sounds like a really stupid way to say "fuck around and find out"
|
I think Brandi is cringe and reeks of WWE cast off. Best use for her is a manager with her ass out and doing the old spear spot. Anything else I don't care about.

So if “crying wolf” is meant as literally crying “Wolf!” then it doesn’t make sense because it’s NOT only done to deceive others. If “crying wolf” is meant figuratively the way the idiom implies then it doesn’t make sense because a wolf crying wolf is still “crying wolf”. Who gives a shit about its teeth? And why does it matter that you can STILL see them? The visibility of its teeth even if it cries wolf adds a whole new puzzling aspect. I’m sticking with Brandi stretching for a deep meaning that isn’t there. |
I think you guys might be looking a little too deep.

AEW Booking in Numbers

They need to have Hangman, Sammy and Jungle on way more
|
Going by those two lists, they basically swapped being heavy with top acts and stars in terms of time to trying to be more balanced overall for the long term benefit.
Women's division itself went from being mostly an afterthought last year to something that has been gaining a lot of steam ever since the Women's title tournament. |
The problem with the women's division is that they have a few potential stars, Britt, Conti, Cargill, and the other blonde that is injured right now (just forgot her name). But they keep pushing Shida, Rose, and other Joshi talent. They have the potential to have a small solid division but they water it down with people who are so WWE Diva's search that it makes me lose interest real quick.
Toss in Serena Deep and Thunder Rosa and they have enough to get through a season of programs until they can get a deal with Tessa and Grayce, whom they desperately need. |
Reason why Shida gets pushed the most is because she's been AEW's most reliable in-ring wrestler almost since the start. Same for the other Joshis since the bulk of AEW's Women's division is either too green in general or just need more experience working in a tv format and/or large crowds.
That's pretty much AEW's biggest issue since they just need a lot of time to gel and cement the division but problem is they haven't done a good job handling the process and the pandemic causing issues on top of that. For comparisons, took NXT a long time as well to build up their women's division to where it really started to feel very special and provide the spark needed for WWE's Women's Revolution. Main difference was NXT was a lot more focused when it came to building their women's division and why ts progress felt a lot less rough. |

I hate Miro, he sucks at wrestling. It's too bad because he could basically be a Bulgarian Bolo Yung but he sucks and wants to be a video game gimmick.

Bolo Young always got his ass kicked, even when cheating.

RVD and Miro should re-enact every Jean Claude Van Damme and Bolo Young's boss fights.

Has AEW created any new significant stars or are most of their current stars former WWE employees?
|
Darby Allin and MJF are the standouts I'd say.

Britt Baker
Darby MJF Sammy Jungle Boy Orange Cassidy John Silver Jade Cargill (soon) |
John Silver is a good hand. I wouldn't call him a significant star.
|
Fuego Del Sol is the "Zack Ryder" of AEW.

See I don't even know who the fuck that is. Their roster is already bloated.

Fuego is only on Dark I believe. He's mostly known as Sammy's sidekick on Sammy's YT vlog.

If they ever do split a proper Uno/Grayson vs. Silver/Reynolds match could slap. |

If they had a bunch of stars, they wouldn't keep bringing in WWE castoffs to try and gain attention. They wouldn't need to run 72 wrestlers out on a 2 hour show. They wouldn't need to partner with Impact or New Japan despite having WCW levels of contracted wrestlers on the payroll. They wouldn't have stopped growing the audience. None of their let's call them original talent are stars. Putting a bunch of old retired wrestlers with them does not make them stars. The Elite themselves, are any of them really stars? Cody booked himself out of the title scene, and seems far more interested in reality TV and behind the scenes while keeping himself just relevant enough to keep getting outside offers. The Young Bucks feel like they are only winning because they are in charge, moreso than any other wrestler I can think of, including HHH. Kenny Omega has been an utter failure since leaving New Japan. His title run has been garbage, his best 2 matches have been losses, and he is working a midcard faction gimmick based on something from like 5 years ago. Adam Page has shown flashes, but they seem more interested in him being a comedy gimmick then actually pushing him. The WWE guys have all flopped with the exception of the early 3, Jericho, Moxley, and Pac, and even with their success in AEW, Jericho is really the only actual star of the 3. Nobody outside of the established fan base knows Mox or Pac at all, and we saw the bad reaction to Jericho after that NBA game lead in. Their biggest star power comes from the announcers table, and Sting. The so called casual lapsed fans from 20 years ago aren't going to say "Wow Sting is back, I have to watch". They are going to say "What, that dude still wrestles? WHY???" I rally against the overbearing fandom far more than I do the actual product, but the actual product is a clusterfuck at best, and at worst it feels like an overhyped TNA with a bigger budget and a larger sense of unearned smugness. |
I agree with a lot of what you said there. This is a short list of the some of the talents I would like to see highlighted every week (matches or angles)
Inner Circle The Pinnacle Death Triangle Mox Kingston Hangman Christian Paul Wight John Silver Sting Archer Cage Starks Butcher & Blade Best Friends & OC Jungle Boy Cody Britt Baker Anna Jay Tay Conti Serena Deeb Statlander ............ Pretty much everyone else I'm good with being relegated to Dark until they come up with something good for them. ............ I'd really like to see the following hired. Andrade ACH Lio Rush Davey Boy Smith Jr. Chris Hero Rowan Jimmy Havoc Marty Scurl Authors of Pain Cain Velasquez Tessa Blanchard Jordynn Grace |
Quote:
|
Out of that hiring list, Smith Jr. is already rumored to have signed with WWE.
Think Havoc retired shortly after his AEW release. Also can probably cross out Scurll and Blanchard since both are not worth the negative baggage they'd bring it. Even NJPW backed off from wanting to use Scurll after word leaked out they had him at a taping and the huge backlash it generated both within the Strong locker room and online. Only one I'd really bring in would be Grace since she'd be a great addition to AEW's women's division. Maybe Andrade as well assuming he's not going right back to Mexico as its been hinted. |
I don't think AEW working with other companies is a bad thing. It's fresh to see it on a major televised wrestling show.
|
Quote:
In terms of people the average wrestling fan wasn't interested in and now is, within AEW, those I mentioned fit the bill as stars for AEW. They are people AEW fans tune in looking forward to see. Not a hard concept to understand. It applies to any tv show that has any type of fandom. |
Quote:
Also fits with them being way more open minded than WWE when it comes to working with other companies and embracing a world of wrestling outside of their own. Same for the mindset when it comes to embracing wrestling history. |
Quote:
It was a point about AEW not creating any stars from the AEW Originals, non WWE/Elite Guys. |
Quote:
Sammy Guevara's spot can be taken by Ricky Starks and very few would notice. Wait, that's not true. People would notice that the guy who used to be Sammy is suddenly a better worker and talker. Jade is green. she needs more time. John Silver is a joke. Dude is only slightly larger than the Child, and puts nothing on his shit. It looks bad. As for Fire Ant, he does some interesting stuff, but his form is the drizzling shits. I don't give a fuck if it is his gimmick. There's a reason why you don't hit the ropes without your arm grabbing the rope. Look up "Larry Zybysko vs. Larry Winters" for a good reason why. Britt Baker is the Female Kenny Omega. That is not a compliment. Because both wrestle at the level of their opponent. Give them a good opponent (Thunder Rosa, Okada), and they look amazing. Give them a terrible opponent (Big Swole, most of his AEW opponents) and their flaws are very apparent. Britt's talked about for 2 reasons: 1. She bled a lot and 2. She was in a great match with one of the best women's wrestlers in the world. |
Britt is also good on the mic
|
Yeah I also think Britt is money. She's great on mic skills, and I enjoy her rasslin ability as well. Not just cause the Thunder Rosa match either. She's a great talent.
|
I wouldn't go as far as to call her great in the ring. She's improved from being the drizzling shits, but she's still got a long way to go.
Agreed that her character work is stellar, tbough. |
Well "Great in the ring" could be considered a subjective opinion. For me she comes off like a skilled worker, usually her matches have a struggle to them that comes off more realistic than most women's matches in AEW which are more focused on hitting the choreography that's been planned out. Baker seems to tell a story more and present a more realistic approach to "her moves" in the ring.
|
Young Bucks were very mean to me in my dream. Feel mad.
|
Pretty cool to see a lot of the AEW talent putting over WWE talent for Mania Saturday work. The animosity that lived between WWF/WCW doesn't have to exist for AEW/WWE.

Ivelisse got released from AEW.
Based on tweets from her and responses by others in the company, the main issue seems to revolve around backstage issues and resentment she was still having with Thunder Rosa ever since their infamous match. Also her beef with Rosa wasn't new and instead dates back to their time together in Lucha Underground. |
She has problems everywhere she goes, she seems like the female Austin Aries in that regard.

Quote:
If you ask a random stranger on the street who Roman Reigns or Sasha Banks is they'd have no idea what you are talking about. |
That doesn't mean they aren't stars within the wrestling business. The more accurate statement would be that there are no cross culture stars other than hogan, rock, Cena and austin. Though I would throw Macho Man in there too. I feel most people know of him as much, if not more so than cena.
|
That was my original point when I listed people who are stars to AEW above.
|
People not knowing stars from the past doesn’t mean they weren’t stars in their day. A guy like Gorgeous George for example was a star even if people on the street don’t recognize him today.
But even if current popularity with the average person is your standard for some reason: Andre, Flair, Piper... |
I guess my main point was there are WAY more stars in the history of wrestling than those four you mentioned regardless of your standards.
My secondary point (and I think Destor’s point) is that there’s a huge difference between the star power of those guys and some people the existing AEW audience enjoys. A star is someone who draws people to the product. Not someone who is just enjoyed by the existing audience. If any of those people quit tomorrow, it wouldn’t matter. |
Semi skeptical about the "allegations" against AEW by Ivelisse.
|
Yeah I'd like to read more but ultimatly I don't really care about what she has a problem with. She seems like trouble based on her past.
Last night at Dynamite was great, but it was also a great investigation into the biggest flaw on Tony's booking. Complete over booking due to many stables and massive roster. The inner circle/Pinnacle stuff was an example of how it can work and make sense and progress the story. The Dark Order/Archer/Sting/Scorpio/Page getting involved in Darby and Hardy also made SOME sens, but ultimately was definitely too much. Did it hurt the match? No it didn't. But it was a weak excuse to further whatever storyline the are pushing for Archer and Sting. They need to make time for Archer, he should be considered a major star in the making not a side player working his way up. I definitely was feeling some Russo era WCW vibes during these large clusters. Not that I hated them, it's still refreshing from WWE, but we know where Russo style booking took WCW. Another complaint I have is the lack of selling from The Bucks and Fenix. They do so many cool moves and yet they don't matter for as soon as they've happened. They move into the next sequence immediately. Combos combos combos. They do some of the sickest spots you've never seen (and a lot that you have) and nobody sells anything. They just pop up and transition into the next killer spot. This sucks that The Bucks are EVP'S be at nobody is going to force them to change. They keep treating every match like a PWG show. It's very frustrating because obviously they could be so much better than what we get if they would just take the advice of every veteran who's made money in the buisness and just slowwww dowwwwwn. |
I also think they have too many no dq, hard-core style matches. They lose their impact when they're used too frequently.

Just putting this here.
